I've seen Dr. Basich (Bass-ick) a couple of times over the years and have had, on the whole, positive experiences. Years ago, I was diagnosed with allergies to mold, dust, pollen and dogs. We lived in an apartment with a chronically leaky roof that no amount of repairs could seem to fix. I was tired all the time, sleeping up to 12-14 hours a day and only felt better when I left. Visiting family that owned dogs meant a runny nose the entire visit. So, based on the diagnoses, and the mold that HAD to be up in the ceiling, we moved. *I should note here that I am on an anti-itch medication on an as-needed basis for eczema in my ear canals...ever had itchy ears? Horrible! The lethargy went away, but I still had the chronically runny nose and it was now in my own apartment and we didn't even own a dog! I suffered through it because the runny nose was something I could tolerate. Fast forward to earlier this year: We bought a house a couple of years ago and I had reached a point where I could NOT tolerate the runny nose any longer. We had owned a rescue dog for a year before she passed away from cancer, and although my nose was still running, it hadn't gotten any worse once she moved in. I went back to see Dr. Basich and he ran all the tests again. This time? No allergy to dogs, but the other 3 were still there. He told me to give Zyrtec a try because, although I had taken it in the past and built up a tolerance for it, having been off of it for so long could mean that my body lost the tolerance and it would work. Well, it didn't. One day, we received a coupon in the mail for allergen reducing air filters so we tried them out and Voila! My runny nose is virtually non-existent! My only explanation for this is that I'm either a really horrible housekeeper (admittedly, I could be better) and I'm just not thoroughly getting the dust, or the air filters in those apartments (if there even were any) were uber filthy and virtually useless. I just had a follow up visit the other day and Dr. Basich told me to keep doing what I'm doing as long as it is working and to let him know if I need more of the anti-itch meds. He makes me feel that he is on my side, trying to get to the bottom of the problem rather than pushing medications. 87/2015

He was very kind, listened attentively, gave us suggestions based on my son's needs. We left feeling like we had answers and a plan (and secondary options). When I've had questions since that 1st visit, I've called and spoken to 2 of the other doctors - Dr. Cranberg and Dr. Brummond - who were extremely helpful and so nice! Dr. Brummond even wished my son well "good luck to him!" regarding my son's cough-variant asthma that gets bad when he has a cold. I feel complete confidence in all of the doctors there. (We were originally referred by my son's also-excellent pediatrician at Aurora, Dr. Smith. He also said he has complete confidence in the doctors.) They all have taken a lot of time talking with me, asking questions, getting details, and then made sure I understood the options and how to administer the meds. The staff is helpful and also makes sure to tell me to call if I have any questions. We can't go wrong with these doctors and I am very grateful to have their help for my son (I also have allergies and will be making an appointment for myself soon). The Mayfair office was in an unexpected place because I'm only familiar with the mall and not the nearby professional businesses. Their office is in the back side of the mall, follow the signs for the 2500 N. Mayfair Rd. professional offices building (next to the AMC theater). My google maps directions took me to the right place.

At the appointment, the nurse who I spoke to first was very nice and pleasant which was the complete opposite of Dr. Stevens himself. I was trying a vegan diet during this time and probably 5% of the appointment was about the redness on my skin and the other 95% was him talking down to me because I was a vegan. I say talking down because he was very condescending and belittling. He isn't a nutritionalist or dietitian which does not give him the authority to speak on this topic so arrogantly. I'm no longer a vegan so I don't have any stake in whether veganism or vegetarianism is beneficial or harmful so this review is coming entirely from my frustrations with the way Dr. Stevens handled our appointment. He conducted a scratch test to see if there was any redness on my arm after lightly scratching it. There wasn't and he determined that the redness was most likely from the vegan supplements that I was taking and not from any foods. This wasn't very helpful because I still get redness from itching after eating certain foods and I don't take any supplements anymore. Overall, I was very bothered by Dr. Stevens patronizing attitude towards me. He seemed like he didn't care very much about my concerns and annoyed that we had to meet likely due to me being vegan. I get that some people don't like vegans or believe it's unhealthy but a patient receiving half-assed care like this presumedly due to a specific reason from a doctor is unacceptable. I wasn't being rude to Dr. Stevens at all during this appointment to warrant his attitude. I was in fact being very respectful and patient with him even though he was acting this way. Some would not have been as composed as I was during this visit. Doctors should treat all patients fairly and kindly and not like they're an opponent or a liability. That is what leads to negative reviews like this being posted.
