They lost my mom's antique furniture. Who cares if it's insured? It's not replacable. Non-existent customer service.

Five stars to the lovely and hardworking TSA staff who kept a happy atmosphere and the line moving…read moreduring a significant government shutdown. We were in and out in less than ten minutes, even during a busy spring break season. I truly cannot be more thankful and appreciative.

tl;dr: Don't fly Southwest at this airport…read more The Southwest Terminal (Terminal 1) at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is one of the worst airport terminals I've experienced. The biggest problem is the layout. Once you pass through TSA in Terminal 1, you're essentially stuck there. Unlike many airports where you can walk between concourses after security, Terminal 1 is separated from the newer terminals. If you want access to other dining or amenities, you have to leave the secure area and go through TSA all over again. The food options are also disappointing. There are a couple of sit-down restaurants, such as Reservoir and Page, but most of the terminal consists of food court-style vendors with very limited seating. Finding a place to comfortably sit and eat can be a challenge, especially during busy travel periods. What really makes the experience frustrating is how crowded the terminal becomes when flights are delayed. Since Southwest operates heavily from Terminal 1, delays can quickly turn the gate areas into standing-room-only spaces. The terminal feels undersized for the number of passengers using it, and at times the congestion borders on uncomfortable. It's definitely a fire hazard and panic attack inducing. Part of the issue is that Terminal 1 is the airport's oldest terminal, dating back to the 1940s. While it has some historic character, it was not designed for modern passenger volumes and it shows. The only major advantage of Reagan National is its location. Being just minutes from downtown Washington, D.C. and Arlington is incredibly convenient. If proximity to the city is your top priority, it's hard to beat. But if you're flying Southwest through Terminal 1, be prepared for limited amenities, crowding, and a less-than-ideal airport experience. By the way, if there is any kind of event in D.C. expect the traffic here to be horrendous and good luck getting a Lyft. What a clusterf*ck.

I can't believe I have not reviewed Reagan National Airport yet…read more Reagan is a national airport only and it employs friendly, local staff. It is located in Arlington, VA and this is as close to Washington, DC proper as you're gonna get with an airport. This airport has grown and expanded over the years and was once a very small, one terminal airport, but that was before the Reagan years aka his name was added to it. The airport is very easy to navigate, due to its smaller size, and they are still upgrading - I mean does it ever really end lol. You can easily access the airport by car, uber/taxi and or metro, which is a huge plus for both local peeps and out-of-towners. All the necessities are here from travel shops to souvenirs to food & drink. Restrooms are modern with all automatic amenities and they are kept very clean. Welcome to DC and we hope you enjoy your stay in our Nation's lovely Capital because we're happy you're here. Cheers!

This terminal was very small, cramped and chaotic…read more I walked here from the metro and it's a bit of a hike from the metro stop from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 - probably a 10 minute walk. I'm pretty fast and fit and I was sweating! Not a lot in the way of food - I ate at the only "real" restaurant here, Reservoir, which was French and expensive but, pretty good. It's a nice place to hang out with charging ports while you wait bc, once you leave, there isn't really anywhere to relax or sit by the gate. Small shopping tunnel as you walk to the "gate" area with a large bar and it was pandemonium. Loud, crowded and bumping into people, not enough seating for the amount of people, etc. Something I havent' seen at an airport before... that's for sure. Not comfortable but it's a well-oiled machine cranking out the boarding and flights. The spherical shape the Southwest flights leave from at gates A1-A8 or so was extremely cramped, loud, and chaotic as about 3 flights were boarding and lining up back to back - the lines overlapped with other gates and boarding and the agents were calling over one another with directions. Our gate agent was a pro - fast and efficient boarding and we were ready to hit the road. Very friendly and easy boarding experience. I haven't flown Southwest in years and it was a nice plane and great boarding process. Southwest did a good job here - but, boy, was it an interesting experience with all

I love and adore SWA, but this terminal at Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA) is sad sad sad. I know…read morethat's not entirely the fault of SW, but they do have some control over their seating, organization, and layout of seating in the gate area. It was cramped and crowded and frankly uncomfortable. Restaurants in Terminal A are terrible as well. There's nowhere to eat if you get counter service, and the sit down restaurant (Reservoir) wasn't great either. Again, this is more on the airport, but if you're flying Southwest out of DCA, don't plan on getting here too early as there's not much to see or do. You don't have access to the rest of the airport once you're through security. I will say the ticketing counter was super friendly with checking a bag, and it was easy to get through security, and also a short walk to the gate. All pluses... but Southwest needs to invest in the terminal! It's a mess.

I haven't flown Southwest in several years and not since they caved on assigned seats and bag fees…read more I wasn't expecting much but, on a recent direct flight from DC to StL I was impressed. While Reagan's Southwest gate area was hectic and chaotic with several planes boarding at the same time, overlapping gates and lines and not enough seating, the gate agents were efficient and things managed to go quickly. The plane was newer, roomier, and much more comfy with overhead space and storage and not a packed plane for once. We were comfy and had space to spread out. Bags were off quickly and whole experience was pleasant.

I prefer Reagan National over Washington Dulles any day of the week. Easy to navigate. Gorgeous…read morehigh ceilings with clean and stylish amenities, plenty of premium clubs if you are a AA Admiral, AMEX Platinum, or United Club member. Lots of food vendor options. And overall, an easy travel experience outside of when there a plane delays. Since we are usually flying into DC as opposed to out, it's easy to access all the major points so long as traffic isn't bad or during rush hour. From the terminals, you can see the U.S. Capital and the Washington Monument looking firm and erect, erect and firm. And if you want to access DC via the metro, there is a station right there to take you into town within 10 to 15 minutes. Arlington is right there as is the Pentagon. One of the better airports in the country.

Definitely easier and better in that sense compared to flying in and out of IAD. Garage parking is free for the first hour. Something we take for granted as many other airports don't offer such a thing. Too bad just about all eatery places were closed when landing at 9pm or so. I wouldn't mind flying in and out of DCA in the future.

The dog sniffed me twice and I continued to walk to the next line of screeners. All of a sudden, the handler runs in my direction and a screener yells, "we have a hit" and proceeds to escort me to another area because they claimed the dog sniffed contraband in my computer case. A detailed search through my bag, clothes, and a residue wipe to detect explosive was performed on me. After 10 minutes, I was given the green light but noticed the dog was not the one responsible for placing people into additional screenings. It was the handler who arbitrarily selected people in line and would claim the dog signaled for possible illegal contraband. I realize this is Washington DC but what a major abuse of power and a waste of valuable resources. Next time, I am avoiding DCA and driving in from PIT...a 3 hour drive but without the humility or embarrassment of being accused of having drugs on you and going through additional screenings to keep TSA employees busy instead of playing with their phones all day.
