We only wish the class was two hours. I would recommend the playhouse to anyone who is hoping to integrate more Spanish immersion into their family's life -- in a creative, gentle, playful, friendly, and encouraging way. Gracias!

What began with a handful of families has grown into a vibrant community of children who don't just learn Spanish, they live it. Julissa, our Program Director, brings 20 years of experience teaching children, with a background in both music and Spanish education, including her time as a Spanish and Music teacher at Ocean State Montessori School. Jorge, our Director of Operations, is a multi-instrumentalist with a music degree and the music teacher at the Playhouse, where he also teaches our adult Spanish class and our children's Spanish classes. Their daughter Amelia leads our online courses, bringing the Playhouse experience to families everywhere. Together with our wider team, including Miledy (Julissa's mother and Amelia's grandmother), we represent three generations of one family. We celebrate language, culture, and creativity in every child.

The best decision I ever made regarding education for my daughter was sending her to a French…read moreAmerican school. Being fluent in French opened up many exciting opportunities for her for college. She attended a prestigious French university for a very, very reasonable price (Sciences Po.) In fact, much of the money we spent on her elementary school French education was saved when she attended the French University. She now attends an Ivy in the USA. My grandson is carrying on this new family tradition by attending FASRI. I have been impressed with the quality of teachers and staff. They are professional, patient, and warm. My grandson is rapidly learning French. I feel incredibly lucky that there is such a high quality bilingual school near where my daughter is living. They also have something called "Passport." It is a program for older children who attend the school who do not have a background in French. It makes the transition to French much easier.

Her two eldest daughters were among the school's six pupils, and in September 1994, she with a small baby in her arms she taught the first classes. Inspired by her own experience at an elementary school near Paris, Madame Velociter wanted her daughters to have access to a similar type of education. The dual-language program she created combines the rigor and excellence of the French system, with more project-based educational techniques found in some American independent schools. In the spring of 2000, the school moved to its present location at 75 John St. In 2012, Dominique Velociter was made knight in the Order of the French Legion of Honor in recognition of her outstanding services to French education and culture through the creation of the school.

I love that no matter whatever I want to make, Patti still encourages me, and seems truly delighted in my meager accomplishments. She is a true teacher, taking time to explain details again and again. She willingly shares details and knowledge from her lifetime of sewing, down to what kind of pin to use, to where to find the least expensive magnetic pincushion. Who knew? I've even learned how to make my own patterns! The atmosphere is always calm and focused, and I find it a welcome respite from my busy day to day life. Sewing has become a meditative practice for me now, which I look forward to every week. Patti is able to juggle every skill level in class, whether someone is just learning the bare bones basics, to the much more advanced. She's pretty well connected in the sewing world too, and hosts really interesting guest workshops. The studio is small and very tidy, with easy parking just outside the door. Classes are currently on a month to month basis, which is nice because it's not a huge commitment. I've seen students come for just a month, to get help on a specific project. Yep, she can do that too. And for the record, I've seen 2 men in class, everyone is welcome, West Side Sewing Studio is my little weekly getaway. I come home relaxed and focused, and I get to make cute stuff!
