Let me take a moment, now that the house is closed and before the chaos ensues to tell you about my real estate agent and how awesome she is. (And also give you background on why I'm so knowledgeable in doing so) From 1999-2001, I worked in Title in CA and Commercial Escrow from 2001-2008 in Las Vegas, NV. When the market crashed my husband and I moved back to CA and had to start all over because we both lost our jobs and along with it our home. In 2010 I went back to working in Residential Escrow. It was a completely different animal. Agents had always been a piece of work, finding one with a soul was rare in my field but there were a few who it was a joy to work with because they were making a crap ton of money and so they were happy to do deals and pleasant along the way. 2008 changed that for many and I got to see it first hand when I went back to Escrow in 2010. Going back, It was my first glimpse into working with residential agents. The ones who had stuck it out were aggressive and frankly, not such nice people. At that point, they were fighting for deals as the market had just started to pick back up. (Hence me being able to find a job again in the escrow field) It only took me two years this time to realize that there was no way I was dealing with how poorly I was treated on a daily basis. During this time was when I met Allison. Now, there were a handful of agents in the office who were kind and nice to work with but I'll tell you what makes Allison stand out and why, after I stopped working in Escrow, she was my first choice and really, if we're being honest, only choice as a real estate agent: 1. Allison knows her ish. Like the ins and outs of real estate. She isn't there to collect a check, she knows what she is doing. And for someone who knows what they are doing being in the business for so long, this is something an agent needs to know because if they don't, you have a client who is constantly calling you because you have to answer questions their agent cannot answer for them. 2. Allison is organized. Like to a T! This is important because in Escrow, you need all your i's dotted and t's crossed and when that doesn't happen closing gets held up and people start getting mad and phone calls start happening... it's not good. If I ever was missing a doc from a file of Allison's, (which let me tell you, rarely happened), all I had to do was call and it was in my hands within minutes. Which goes well with reason 3. 3. Allison is kind. I got treated like CRAP working in Escrow. They say you have to have thick skin to be in that business and boy my skin callused. Working with Allison, I was treated like a person. She was confident in my abilities to do my job and so it was a joy to just interact with her on a daily basis. 4. Allison is funny. Like a kick in the pants, hoot! I love to laugh and it was welcome in the high pressure job we were both in and the high pressure that is selling or buying a home. In 2013, one year after I retired from escrow, my husband and I were ready to buy again. I called up Allison and told her about this crazy idea we had about renovating our home. She took us through DOZENS of homes. We were getting priced out because it was a Buyers market and the investors were scooping up EVERYTHING! We finally found a house in Redlands. Man, it was a piece of WORK and our seller was a nightmare. But Allison took us through the process and we got the deal closed. Fast forward to 2021. Our dream home is complete and now we need to move on and start again. My first and only call was to Allison.
