    after self treatment at home

I had an office visit with nurse practitioner to have a dermatofibroma frozen off my leg Previously I've had neck tags frozen off by my primary care doctor, who applied the freezing agent using a q-tip, with care & precision. Anne used a device that resembled a blowtorch. All of the surrounding skin was fried. Absolutely no damage to the actual dermatofibroma. I called the office to talk about my complaint & was told that the "blood blister" was a good thing. I have since retreated my own leg, using a Dr Scholls wart removing kit to freeze it off. The pictures w/o the blood halo are pictures of the aftermath of my own work. There was no way that I was going to let anyone from that office near my skin again

I've visited the office a few times and found Dr. Dunn and the rest of the staff to be courteous and professional.

The ice pack was too cold for me so Miriam promptly switched it for a cold towel on my face.

I was going to make it something I did when I visited my family in Washington State, however, the doctor I tried just kind of looked at me with a shocked look when she read my chart and found out I was in my early 20s and had already had cancer removed. That is not the only troubling thing I have run into since I had cancer. Some of the more religious Christians I have met in my life, have told me that immunity to cancer it simple, just hope one does not get it. If hope were immune, I would not have gotten cancer in the first place. Fortunately, Dr. Camilla McCalmont is a doctor who accepts reality and that while skin cancer may be fought off once it can return. I lived in Albany when I visited Dr. McCalmont and I loved the location of her office. The building had its own parking area, it was conveniently located not too far from the El Cerrito Shopping Plaza, and I did not encounter traffic on the short drive to the office. She and her workers were professional and helpful in setting up the appointment and getting the paperwork figured out. She emphasized the importance of annual check-ups and self exams, urging not being afraid to inspect oneself and help catch potentially cancerous spots early on. Nothing came up of concern on my visit, which was a huge relief. I have since returned to living in Washington State, but was happy with my experience with Dr. Camilla McCalmont and her office.

Luckily their location was not terrible to find, as there was ample street parking. When I walked in, the warm and friendly receptionist greeted and made me feel right at home. Throughout my visit, Shannon shared me with her wealth of knowledge of the various AHAs as well as retinoid products. I love that we were able to geek out on which products to use to achieve brightening effects. She also made some recommendations based on my skin type such as mandelic acid instead of glycolic acid for gentle exfoliation. Without trying to oversell me her products, she suggested that I try over-the-counter Nizoral antifungal wash for possible white-heads that pop up occasionally as well as prescription tretinoin since I had a few hyperpigmented spots that I wanted to fade/brighten. Given it was my first time there, she did allow me to use my credit card to pay but informed me that she only accepted cash or checks to help keep operating costs down. Since my back issues were minor based on her assessment, I did not schedule a return visit. I so very much appreciate her sound and scientifically backed advice (I also follow various certified dermatologists on IG for general aging skin care maintenance); I definitely will be making a visit if future skin issues arrive!

I've had filler once, Botox once, and two RF microneedling sessions and it's like the technicians are OCD. Three full passes, every patch of skin is covered, and the results are the best I've had. They give you time to numb, and they do a great job distracting you from the discomfort if you do decide to go for a more intense setting. Also, really helpful with the GLP, clear labeling on each syringe, and easy FaceTime with the doctor. I've never had to wait past an appointment time and there's always parking. Really grateful I found this spot. Note: Sheila did the rf microneedling if you end up scheduling that service. I normally have some white spots but after the service with her my entire face is covered and it shows in the results.

Coming from a healthcare setting myself, I am big on treating patients as people and not a box one has to check. Suffice to say, introduce yourself. I had to ask her "Who are you? Because you never introduced yourself." I believe that is basic etiquette. Second, I was quick to notice the lack of patience with which my call was handled hours after my visit, the one where I had a chemical peel. (There was a whole lot of information to remember before the visit and they don't all sink in until you're done and you get the kit.) Otherwise I had a pleasant experience getting my first peel with Sheila/Shiela. I'm now on my 4th day post-procedure and looking forward to the results. I also want to acknowledge the wonderful experience I had weeks before that with Joy, who did my Dermplaning Facial, although I wish I had known sooner that if I did both at the same time, I could've saved a lot more.

She has training in both internal medicine and dermatology so she is uniquely attuned to detecting and treating skin cancers and other diseases. She does all of the typical cosmetic work as well, but I find it very reassuring that this clinic is staffed by a top-notch professional who thoroughly understands skin and the body. I went to her because another dermatologist asked me to seek a second opinion about sudden hair loss. The facility was kind of gross, outdated, crowded and unkempt. They did not even use modern equipment like a camera with a trichoscope. The first dermatologist (at the other center, not here) I saw had a magnifier connected to a computer, where they could use the handheld device and show you real-time images of your hair and scalp. Apparently, this is the standard any dermatologist should use. Instead, Helen did a visual exam WITH HER EYES and by pulling my my hair!!!! When I asked why she wasn't using normal equipment to do her evaluation like a dermatoscope, she said, "We don't have that here and I just use my own sight." SHOCKING. With hair loss, you need magnification or a specialized scope because the naked eye cannot see micro-level details of the hair shafts, follicular openings, scalp surface, etc. That's the whole point of using the equipment. Then when I kept asking her to check more closely, she just kept saying, "I don't think anything is wrong. What do you want me to do?" What do I want you to do??? Ummm, she is supposed to be the medical provider and expert. Why was she asking me? A lot of other reviews mention her rude behavior. She wasn't rude, per se, but just cold and unprofessional and inarticulate ... mostly she just seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. I also noticed that a lot of people in the waiting room were older people using Medicare and Medi-Cal, so maybe this is where people go when they don't have a lot of options. All I know is that I would not trust this place with something as important as my skin going forward. It was a waste of time and money.
