The process was confusing until I was referred to the Allstate New Hyde Park agency. Chase went through my current policies line by line to ensure that I would be adequately insured. He was helpful in transferring the old policies to Allstate and spent a generous amount of time explaining the process of transferring vanity plates. My husband and I had been with Chris for, I don't know, 10 years? And everything was great, or so…read moreI thought. A year ago, we called to add a rental condominium policy to the two cars, two homes, and personal liability policy we already had. I believe I dealt with Ben. Gave him all the info on the condo, including the fact that there was an HOA, which was responsible for all exterior parts of the condo. So Ben, here's what we bought, please protect me, and please add it to the umbrella policy. Fast forward one year, the town is working on the water lines in the neighborhood and we end up with 9' of water in the basement. File the first homeowners claim we've ever filed, only to be told we're not covered. We don't have the rider that would cover water coming from outside the unit. According to Ben and Chris, they never put that on a condo policy unless the customer specifically asks. Strange, because the other two units affected, who coincidentally also had State Farm, both have that rider. And why would I ask, I had no idea I wasn't covered for water from outside. How would I? I came to you, the "professionals", to protect me. So, rude awakening, I'm not covered. While shopping my policy around, I also discover they never added the condo to the liability policy, and they've been charging me for replacement costs as though we would have been liable for the whole thing, not just "studs in" which is the norm for a HOA community that is responsible for the exterior. It's also been 6 weeks since I first requested a copy of my policy. I called once, emailed the second time, and requested it the third time during a phone call with Chris. Still haven't gotten it. So, If you're familiar with the ins and outs of insurance, and know exactly what you want, they'll be fine to work with. If you're trusting them to use their knowledge and professionalism to tell you what you need to be protected, look elsewhere.
