As someone who has a perfect driving record and always bundles multiple policies (home, rental condo, auto) I expect my rates to stay relatively the same. However, if you go with allstate they will continually raise your with no explanation other than everyone is getting a raised rate. So I decided to start shopping around and found a bundled policy with Travelers, which would save me a little over $1000 annually. So naturally I decided to cancel my policy. Conveniently Steve Dow office hasn't answered for the past week and a half, allstate can't cancel directly and here I am in a huge run around trying to cancel this policy. Really great how they answer when you want make a payment or add to the policy, yet no one is capable of canceling or assisting in the circumstance. Would never recommend going through Steve Dow or his team. They will give you a migraine listening to their scripted customer service speech. read more

Maybe he should have stuck to flying... as an agent....Methinks not. Was happily insured with Allstate until one agent sold their agency to another ...then everything went down hill for Allstate.... every 6 months my premium went up... and up....and up... [Incidently....my driving record is so squeeky clean even I'm embarrassed]... never a claim..never a windshield, no points, no tickets, no DUI's ....no nothing... Cancelled my insurace over the phone to Steve, man to man...and in writing, explaining my reasoning, I was as up front as can be.... make sure you cancel my autopay , etc... 12 days later he takes$1000 out of my checking account for a premium that I had cancelled... Incidently if you go onto Allstates 'global' website... it's really easy to set up auto pay....but when you go into it to cancel it ...it's an impossibility...you must call your agent and tell them you want to cancel autopay..... I did... they still took $1000 ... 7 days later and a lot of "I'll call you back William and ...I'M STILL DOWN A THOUSAND BUCKS..... Do yourself a favor...avoid these folks... read more

Worst insurance agent ever. I've had insurance through this agent for over five years for auto and home owner. Personable guy. He had a couple minor mistakes and dropped balls a few years ago, but I didn't worry about them. Later I requested additonal coverage on the phone and didn't realize for over six months that he had failed to update my policy which could have cost me huge. Then my house got hammered by a big hail storm this spring. Steve Dow has continued to be cheerful, but not at all helpful. Allstate adjustors and service center have been good to work with through this claim. Lessons learned: 1) If your current agent is making minor mistakes, switch ASAP because chances are they won't do better on the big stuff. 2) Figure out what you need for homeowners insurance and discuss it with your agent. Deductible amount? ACV vs RCV? Code upgrade coverage? 3) Read the totally boring insurance policy that comes in the mail at least 2X/year - especially homeowners. Make sure you have the coverage that you want and don't trust that a call to your agent corrects any issues until you see them on the official policy. 4) Don't file a homeowners claim until you understand the consequences of doing so. You are penalized for filing too many claims - so better to have a high deductible and deal with small stuff yourself. Have a contractor look at stuff before an insurance adjustor. But don't trust me or your agent. Research this yourself. read more

Received a call from an assistant in Steve's office today, asking me if they could provide an auto and home insurance quote. I had Allstate for at least 15 years, when they suddenly cancelled my home insurance in May 2015. Supposedly they would not insure any houses in some particular polygon (that the folks in DC put together) due to fire danger. I did all kinds of homework and research to try to figure out why and what I could do. Really nothing could be done, so I took all my business from Allstate and went to State Farm. After being unable to leave a message back, I ended up talking to Steve himself. I told him that it was silly they were calling asking to provide a quote when they could not even insure me. He would not listen to me, but instead claimed that they did not cancel my insurance. Because supposedly I would not do the mitigation they required, it had to be cancelled. Actually, there was not any mitigation that could have been done. As I was explaining that to him, he hung up on me! How professional (NOT)! I cannot believe that the agent himself has such poor business manners that he actually hung up on me. I understand that the point is basically moot about whether they can or cannot insure me, but gosh - hanging up on me? I will be calling Allstate headquarters to let them know how one of their agents conducts himself. And this, after I was a loyal customer to Allstate for so many years. read more

Being a customer with multiple homes and multiple vehicles and zero claims, the customer service received from this office is terrible. The agent and team are unfriendly and rude on the phone and through email. My rates significantly increased without notification. They are much higher than any of the competitors. Secondly, when I requested to terminate my policies, they would not terminated them without a big fight. Absolutely awful. read more

"Are you in good hands?" Nope!!! Beware of calling into the call center to make any changes and always always ask for confirmation in writing!!! I called in around March 2015 and apparently was routed to an afterhours call center that said they could handle any changes necessary. I proceeded to ask him to take my mother's car off our policy. The gentleman asked me if I wanted to keep my mom as a driver and I specifically said no, she is going into a nursing home and will no longer be driving. I thought I did my part, but of course not. I watch my bill keep going up over the months. I called my Agent Steve Dow's office and was told I have all the discounts possible, but yet it still went up month after month. Finally, I asked for a breakdown of what I am paying as the forms they provide on the website don't show what you're paying for. FINALLY!!! After calling back several times, the lady asked me who Sharon was! I said that is my mother that I took off March of 2015! I ask her to read the notes and it says that I only asked to remove the car and not my mother and they have no proof that I asked to remove my mother because I was routed through the call center and they take no responsibility for their errors. Hmmm... I didn't know there was a difference between Allstate and Allstate, but there really is! Neither will take responsibility for the other!!! So I thought, okay the call center records the conversations and I'll have them pull it and fix the mistake. NOPE!!! They only keep recordings for 30 days and it's my word against theirs. Are you kidding me? I did everything I was supposed to and it cost me upwards of $1000 and they are okay with losing my business vs fixing it. You know there's a bigger problem when they do not trust each other or take responsibility for each other when they are in fact the same company and chose not to stand behind the Allstate name. I will move my business elsewhere and to not recommend them at all! I am not asking for anything that is not right. I did everything I was supposed to and since I cannot prove that I called and asked to remove both my mother's car and mother, I'm in the wrong. I know for a fact that I told the support center that my mom would no longer be driving. I also have a hard time believing they cannot pull the call records longer than 30 days. read more

All of us are very happy with the customer service Steve and his team provide. As a Realtor, I have referred many clients to Steve and he is always very responsive and ready to meet the needs of his clientele.
