Never having been in Barcelona, we asked the concierge at our hotel for a dinner recommendation…read more Zarautz was highly recommended, so we gave it a try. Wow, did not disappoint! While the restaurant does not look super fancy, it's got a pleasant atmosphere and a nice decor. We walked over around 6:15, which is early for dinner, even for us. The server explained that they had some tapas available, but the kitchen didn't open until 7. We said we'd be back and he booked us a table on the spot. (lucky us as they had a party of 16 locals and the remaining tables were booked except ours!) We wandered to another place for an outside glass of wine while we waited. At 7, we went back and explained Uncle D's shellfish allergy to Mark, our server and asked about recommendations for things we might try that would work for the allergy. He was so kind and advised against certain items that had shellfish or were cooked in the same oil as shellfish. Bless him! We shared the tapas of a pulled pork sandwich, (in a small bun), and a cheese plate with cubes of cheese in olive oil with black salt flakes, and finished with sharing a main course of oxtail, which we were told takes 32 hours to make! All were delicious and we were thrilled we had gone there. The second and final night in Barcelona we were tired, didn't want to have to figure out where to go that might not be too close and decided to go back. This time we booked a table about 45 minutes before we wanted to be there. Lucky there was a table for 2! When we walked in, we were recognized and greeted like family! Mark even remembered our names, shellfish allergy and the wine we had enjoyed the night before which we wanted again. We ordered the same cheese tapas as it was so delicious, along with the chorizo casserole in apple cider, with a main course of the sirloin steak with potatoes and padron peppers. The steak dish was brought out before the chorizo dish accidentally. We opted at that point to have the chorizo dish after. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, potatoes crispy outside and soft inside and the padron peppers tasty but mild. Again, absolutely delicious! By the time we were halfway through the steak dish, we knew we had no room in our tummies for the chorizo dish. We asked if it was possible to cancel the chorizo dish, but if they had already started cooking it then it would be ok. Mark was gracious and canceled it for us. At the end of the meal, Mark brought us a glass of a local liqueur that was wonderful. The food, the service, the atmosphere... and both nights local folks enjoying along with tourists, all fabulous. All that to say... if you have the chance to go to this wonderful restaurant, do it!

With reservations a must, six of us finally got to try La Picara. There are a variety of tapas, ponchos and raciones on their menu. We tried a lot of them, and everything was delicious with the possible exception of Sepia a la Plancha, grilled squid which was too tough and chewy. Do NOT neglect to see their "Suggeriments fora de Carta" on a chalkboard. Most every off-the-chart suggestion we tried was exceptional, with my favorite actually being Tomaquets de Temporada amp Burratina í old D'Alfabrega. This was probably the best Burrata and Tomatoes serving I've ever tasted. It must be their spiced basil oil. The other standout special was a delicious Pintxo de Foie a la Plantxa, luxurious grilled foie gras skewer. A couple of drag queens came in promoting their show. They were a hoot at our table. Paola, the owner, was so kind and gracious. Service was fantastic. La Picara is definitely a must try during your time in Sitges!

This was an OK experience (and OK is not bad), but my first counsel, even if you are big eaters…read morelike us, I'd think twice about getting the full carnival menu unless you are completely famished and can hold your wine (pourings are generous- each pairing generally goes with two dishes though). It was a lot of food and wine, even for us, but we did eat a fair amount of bread to sop up the sauces. If we return, we'd try the slightly thinner Menú degustación instead. Service is attentive and friendly. As I mentioned, there are lots of courses. Some landed. Some did not. The first course was a huge winner: the artichoke in an anchovy oil. I could have eaten three of those. Also, I was really impressed with the duck salad and berries. For me, the pork skin was more grease than taste, and the turbot was a missed opportunity. My other criticism is that there were a few misses in the marriage between the wine and the food and none of the pairing truly felt harmonious. The best was an unusually tasting syrah/mourvèdre/grenache blend (give it a moment to open though) with the duck and pear course. My final thought is I like the concept of experimentation and as a fan of the ancient Romans I love their ideas of trying to recreate some ancient plates. The risk of too much experimentation is that sometimes a few things fall flat. Total price for two carnival menus and two wine pairings with tax and 10% cash tip for the good service was 418 Euros. This was not a good value for us. Given the convenient location and overall concept, I might try it again. I would lean more into 3.5 stars, but for our meal, 4 is too generous considering several plates that fell flat for us and overall price of the experience.

The food at Two Peppers is creative, different, and delicious. The restaurant is a bit more upscale than some of our other haunts but worth a visit. Staff is great and service is up to par. Be aware: Do NOT waste your money at this restaurant if you are Asians!!!…read more We dined at Disfrutar with high expectations given its 3 Michelin stars, but unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We were the second party to check in yesterday. However, when several hosts came out, they escorted multiple European groups who arrived after us into the restaurant first, while leaving our party waiting. As an Asian family visiting from the United States, this made us feel uncomfortable and raised concerns about whether we were being treated differently. The situation became even more concerning during the meal. My daughter was holding a glass of orange juice when the glass suddenly broke in her hand and cut her left thumb. A staff member came to clean the table and clearly saw her bleeding finger, yet there was no apology, no concern, and not even a simple "Are you okay?" This lack of basic care and empathy was shocking. At a Michelin 3-star level, service should be attentive, respectful, and consistent for every guest. Unfortunately, our experience made us feel overlooked and unwelcome. At this level, service is not optional--it is a fundamental part of the experience. Being made to feel overlooked and unwelcome, combined with the lack of care in a situation involving a child's injury, made this an experience we cannot recommend. To be fair, the cuisine itself was exceptional--creativity, presentation, wine quality, and overall execution were all at a very high level (close to 10/10). The taste was strong (around 8/10). However, the customer service was extremely poor (1/10), and unfortunately, that overshadowed the entire experience. We hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and reflects on how all guests are treated. There are many choices when it comes to fine dining, and service matters just as much as the food.
