As a self-proclaimed matcha connoisseur, this is THE spot to grab a matcha in Fort Lauderdale. Located within the heart of the Thrive District, you can easily find Alma Matcha in the middle of this area. They've created such a beautiful space where people can come together to work, study, chat, grab a post-workout matcha, or just relax. They are typically packed but I never not find a seat at their community table which has become my fav spot to work at. I love coming here to work or cowork and grab a matcha. My absolute favorite is the Indigo Fog matcha since I LOVE early grey but also love the blueberry notes that is added into this. They also have some really cool collaborations and seasonal menu items. The most recent one that I loved was their Back to School specials that included cereal flavor profiles like cinnamon toast crunch and fruity pebbles. This feels like a trendy NY matcha shop that was transported to Ft Lauderdale. We went on a Saturday morning and it was a packed house. While in line, the shop hit capacity and had to start having people wait outside before they could join the line. Luckily, they set up umbrellas so people can wait in the shade. What stood out the most to me was the fact that the matcha was whisked by hand for every drink. It's whisked in the front so you get to watch and see the epic pour of matcha into the drink. First time visiting their permanent space as they opened in April and it was very nice. There is a cozy and welcoming vibe to it but today the cafe was buzzing as they had a special 4th of July event "American Honey" event and a collab with Stacked Cookie Company & Petal Haus Miami. Because of the event there was a line out the door but the line moved pretty quickly. The staff would let us in little by little to avoid overcrowding inside the cafe. When you entered the store there was a little line and you place your order at the register and walk to the other side to wait for your order to be prepared. There was 1 person taking orders, 1 person managing the line and offering menus and water to the customers outside, and there were about 5 employees preparing drinks at the bar. We ordered the Matchamisu, Matcha Cinnamon roll, Miso Maple Matcha: (oat milk & salted vanilla cold foam), Banana Bread Matcha: (oat milk & vanilla cold foam) and an Indigo Fog Matcha: (almond milk, 1/2 sweet). I also ordered a tin of matcha to take home with me. Everything was soooo good!! Both the matchamisu & matcha cinnamon roll were very rich. I think the matcha cinnamon roll had an apple flavor which I thought was interesting. I didn't try the banana bread matcha, but the Indigo Fog was delicious! The cashier let me know that the Indigo Fog Matcha was one of their sweetest flavors so I asked for it half sweet and it was a delicious sweet treat between the bitterness of the earl grey and the sweetness of the blueberry syrup. I have been wanting to try Alma Matcha for some time now and so glad I got a chance to. The line was pretty busy and we did have to wait outside for about 5 mins. They have a great variety in flavors for your drink, I went with toasted marshmallow matcha latte with almond milk and a matcha white chocolate chip cookie. While we waited, one of the baristas educated us on the difference of matcha vs hojicha from the smells to powder potency. You can tell that the staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the business. The cookie was really good, sweet from the white chocolate, and very soft and chewy. My toasted marshmallow matcha latte reminded me of a campfire, but a more cooler version. The matcha is definitely high quality and so smooth. I like that they add a toasted marshmallow on top. Alma recently opened their flagship location, and I had to stop by. I'm a big fan of their matcha, especially the Marshmallow Matcha Latte. It tastes amazing every time! The space itself is beautiful, with plenty of seating that makes it the perfect study or coworking spot for students and anyone looking to get some work done. The green paint on the walls is gorgeous, and that's coming from someone who usually isn't even a fan of green. The atmosphere feels super cozy, and they mainly play indie music, which I loved. As always, the staff was incredibly kind and greeted me as soon as I walked in. One thing I will say is that I initially thought they only served drinks because I didn't notice the food options on the menu until I saw someone else order. I had previously been to their location in Dania Beach and saw that they moved to Fort Lauderdale, in the up-and-coming area known as the Thrive District. I went to Alma 8/17 around 3pm. I don't live in South Florida anymore but when I come down here to visit family and friends, I always make sure to stop by Alma because of how much I love their matcha. Today, I experienced the worst customer service at any establishment I've ever went to. To start things off, the young lady with brunette hair and tattoos at the register snatched the pastry menu that my friends were crouched down looking at from the counter to give to another customer, while they were still looking. We didn't think anything of it until she very rudely asked me to grab a menu and "keep the line moving" when mind you, I only had to take one step foot forward because the line was short and was not even moving. When we finally got to the counter to order, she started off by saying "What are you having?" No greeting, no hello, no how are you. She was very short with her responses and while I was trying to order, she kept snapping back with questions without me even having time to think about my responses: "What size? What milk?" I felt very rushed. When we tried ordering a pastry that Alma was out of, she quickly snapped and said "we're out of it", and offered no suggestions or any other options. Anyways, I spent $54 and drove a decent amount of time to make my way over here because I love their drinks & atmosphere so much. Because of the customer experience I had today and negative attitude, I don't think I will be returning unfortunately as someone who has been a long time supporter of Alma before they even built their flagship location. They also sell merch including apparel in the far back area, matcha sets and matcha powder underneath the ordering counter and over by the lounge area. Ariel helped me with my order as I was trying to decide what to get. She explained a few different options and gave me some suggestions for favorites. I saw ube and it was all over. Naturally I had to get the Ube Cold Foam Matcha Latte. Had to!!! Although I really wanted to try the Banana Bread Matcha Latte and Blueberry Matcha Latte too. Next time. Madison was my matcha barista. She makes each drink with so much care and precision. They use ceremonial matcha here with all the fancy tools. The actual store front is coming soon directly next to this pop-up with no name affixed to the frontage yet, so I just followed the endless parade of matcha addicts through the front door. Basically, a cafe style setting with a few couches and tables, but busy with standing room only. Firstly, customers pick their flavored matcha latte from the eight item menu. Then the friendly barista begins the live preparation in front of me using the equipment on the counter which includes a whisk, bowl, sifter and frother. Finally, the thin green matcha is slowly poured into an ice filled cup gently mingling with the milk and syrup flavored base. This is only my third time having matcha and forgot again to request less ice. The banana bread flavor was wonderfully sweet, but it was literally five sips to sucking air for $9.00, but the larger size would have been a couple dollars more. Loved the engaging experience of watching the barista prepare my smooth matcha latte. Not sure if the nutritional value is advantageous or just a fad, but for now I will stick with my espresso and the jitters. I was a bit hesitant on trying Matcha because of the many mixed reviews I've heard from people, however, I am so happy that this is where I got my first taste! I went with the strawberry matcha, it's a strawberry puree made in house and as a strawberry lover I thought this would be a safe choice. As a lactose intolerant girly, I was happy to hear that I had the option of getting almond or oat milk which I decided on the almond based on the recommendation from the Barista.
