Hotel was not best or the worst. This is mostly based on the placement of my room. It was a bit noisy. It looked as if it could be updated and was a bit noisy. The good about the hotel is the location and restaurant attached to hotel. If you do not want to eat at a sit down restaurant, McDonald's and Portillo's are maybe a block away (around a 2-3 minute walk). read more

First Chicago trip in six years and I chose Aloft Chicago Downtown River North as my hotel based on my girlfriend's recommendation from her previous stay. I had also stayed in River North before at a different hotel, so I already knew the location was prime territory. First things first, I need to give a shoutout to the staff here. Spoke with Daquan before I even got here and got me set up. No small feat since I had booked three rooms. As far as being on property, we got here at 6 am since we took a red-eye flight, so I already knew I was significantly pushing the boundaries of early check-in. With that said, I must thank Richard for his exemplary service. He was keeping us up-to-date on the availability of corner two queen rooms (of which I was upgraded to). He did let us check out a regular two queen room and a corner two queen room, which made the decision to keep a corner two queen room easier. Ended up taking a corner two queen room on a lower floor because...honestly, I needed to sleep! But thank you to Richard for taking care of us when we checked in, along with our entire stay. Now the reason I picked the corner two queen room is that it was significantly bigger than a regular two queen room. It matters when you have four people in the room! Aside from that, very well kept room. Bathroom isn't the biggest, but at least the sink was outside the shower/toilet room. Best part of the room is that you have a view from the northwest corner (as that is where all the corner rooms are located). Well, the view is mainly of the gigantic McDonald's...but it's a view! Also note that I still heard the sounds of the city despite being on a higher floor, so it can be a bit loud at times especially when there is a lot of traffic. As you can imagine, Location is PRIME. Aside from the aforementioned McDonald's (of which I frequented on several occasions), there's so much in this area that it's hard to keep track. Mendocino Farms is literally right across the street. Portillo's and Al's #1 Italian Beef are super close. Levain Bakery is down the street. The closest subway stop is a short 10 minute walk away. The river is right there as well. You can't beat this for location. Also took advantage of them having Beatrix here. Not only did I grab some pastries here, but we also had a nice brunch here. Will write that in another review. There is a decent-sized gym here, of which I intended to use but never did. Of course lol. Overall, I had great stay here! Definitely would love to stay here again when I come back to Chicago! read more

Just wrapped up my second overnight stay at the Aloft in River North. I chose it for a few key reasons: it's close to my event venue, I had a good past experience here, and the price was better than other nearby Marriott options. As with most Alofts, the design and layout are fairly uniform from location to location. The River North rooms are no exception--standard size, clean, and everything worked as expected. The only hiccup? I was woken up at 4am by a gurgling sound--turned out to be an overly enthusiastic toilet that wouldn't stop running. Not a deal-breaker, but definitely noticeable in the quiet of the night. On a more positive note, the WXYZ Restaurant on the main level is a true full-service spot. That's rare for Aloft properties, which usually just offer grab-and-go snacks or a limited menu. I didn't dine there this time, but it was packed during lunch, which is always a good sign. read more

We stayed at Aloft Downtown River North for two nights. Check-in was easy and done online. Our room was small but very clean and we had a nice view of the city from the 9th floor. The king-size bed was comfortable. The restaurant downstairs seemed really popular, though we didn't get a chance to try it. If you're flying into Midway Airport, you can take the Orange Line and transfer to the Red Line, which will take you to hotel. If you're coming from O'Hare, you'll need to take the Blue Line and switch to the Red line. read more

I chose this hotel because it was only a half block from the banquet hall I was attending an event at. But this area has really become a tourist attraction. Or a trap depending on you definition. It was about a mile from the Millenium Train Station.....so an easy walk for me. Since I was there on a very hot day in July, the AC was cranked way down. Even after the mile walk to the lobby from the train station, I was freezing as soon as I set foot inside. Check-in was easy. Friendly staff. They hit you with a $100 incidental fee on your CC. But it was removed just hours after check out. My room was an icebox. 67­° I turned off the AC in my room. The room looked modern, but the furnishings were low end. The bed had no box spring and the only chair in the room was the most uncomfortable thing I ever sat on. My room description said "city view" which consisted of a bunch of rooftops and an alley. The fire station on Illinois St is a block and half away, so the sirens go off all night long 30-40 minutes apart. No pool, no ice machine. I think the gym was pay to play. Elevators were fast. Personally next time I'll look for another place. One good thing though....this is the first time I stayed at a Chicago hotel and did NOT have housekeeping enter the room when I was not around. read more

Fun hotel, good value for the location. Lively bar to grab a drink, large enough rooms, nice gym and pool for the price point. I travel a ton at mostly Marriott hotels from 2 stars to 5 stars and choose this one often when looking at Chicago rates. It's not 5 stars but it's a fun and energetic place, pretty comfy beds, not loud. Big open lobby with people hanging out , not just business travelers (I like staying here for business too). Spend the money you save on a great Chicago restaurant. Right off Michigan Ave if that's your thing. Better yet walk to the river walk or lakeshore path in 10 minutes. Also dog friendly, no fee, which is very rare. If your dog behaves well, it's a great spot. read more

This hotel was so unprofessional. They checked me out a day early, then called me three times while I was at a work meeting, face-to-face live acting as as an emergency. Then after they canceled me, they rebooked me at a higher rate and refused to change it back! Super shady and terrible customer service. read more

My stay at Aloft Chicago was comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful, which I truly appreciated. The biggest downside was the overnight parking--it was expensive and inconvenient, especially if you have large luggage. You have to get the parking pass from a nearby restaurant, Timothy's Pub, and then walk several blocks to the hotel. On a positive note, the location is great. The hotel is surrounded by lots of restaurants within walking distance, and Navy Pier is just a few blocks away, making it easy to explore the area on foot. read more

I stayed at this hotel earlier this year and suffered a serious fall in the bathroom when the shower floor became extremely slippery the moment the water was turned on. I hit my head against the exposed metal frame of the glass divider, resulting in a deep laceration and head injury that required ongoing medical treatment over the following months. What disappointed me most was the handling of the incident afterward. The hotel's insurance representative provided shifting explanations regarding safety measures, and key questions about the scene conditions and investigation were never clearly addressed. Despite providing documentation and evidence, responsibility was repeatedly deflected, and the process became prolonged, confusing, and emotionally exhausting. As a guest, I expected transparency, accountability, and a genuine concern for safety, but these were not demonstrated throughout the process. I strongly encourage future guests to exercise caution and hope the hotel takes these safety issues seriously to prevent similar incidents. read more

A very decent place to stay. Despite some unusual occurrences during my stay, the staff were helpful, friendly, and eager to right any wrongs. I arrived a little early and exhaustedly paid $25 for early check in. Valet was a little confusing on arrival as I wanted to park before checking in...but they need your room number to complete the parking process. Or they would PREFER to have that. They begrudgingly gave me a ticket for myself and for the front desk to retroactively apply my room number to my parking voucher. The valet is also shared with the next door Hyatt (I think) hotel so I am sure it can be a little confusing. I got to my room and was very pleased with the cleanliness and the space in general. Very welcoming and comfortable. I wasn't going to be staying terribly long, so I opted to decline housekeeping for the two mornings I was there, but the public areas remained clean and lovely. There was a disturbance on my first night, a couple rooms down (one which required calling the cops and EMS and hotel security and the night manager). It appeared to be handled as calmly and professionally as possible. It was offered to switch me to another room if I felt unsafe and my night was comped. The problem was handled and I only had one more night so I was fine staying in the same room (plus I worried about there being confusion getting my car out of overnight parking if I changed rooms...it was just simpler to stay in the room I was already in). I was on the 9th floor and was a little surprised by the street noises that still made it up and in through the windows. But it was tolerable, plus you've gotta expect some sound in a busy city and being in a popular area. The hotel has a nice business area, some comfortable looking lobby seating, a little market (for basic OTC medicines and snacks and what not). The on-site restaurant (Beatrix) was really nice. It gets REALLY busy on weekends, but I was a single traveler who went down at a weird mid/late-morning time, and who is totally cool sitting at the bar. I wish the bar part stayed open at little later, but it was great for breakfast and lunch. This location is super convenient to a lot of things without being to crazy close to the Magnificent Mile/denser downtown area. Close enough to walk to a lot of things (depending on what you might consider "walking distance" but I was there for 2 nights, 3 days and I walked every where I wanted to go to except for one Uber back to the hotel after the concert I was in town for). I would gladly stay here again. I might try and find cheaper street parking or another cheaper lot I could walk to, but overall I had a lovely stay here. Which is saying a lot, considering the incident that happened that the positives far outweigh the negatives. read more

If you plan on staying here prepare to have no sleep. It's located near a fire station and let me tell you the fire truck goes in and out of that station almost every hour on a weekend. It's insane. The ear plugs the hotel gives you doesn't help. Doesn't even matter if you're on the highest floor you can hear everything. Also our room had this weird smell and upon checking with the front desk it's because there's a sewer outside. Other than that, it's nice that this place is within walking distance of bars and restaurants, we were able to get checked in early, and I liked how there was a pool table in the lobby, but I think the cons far outweigh the pros. Sleep is very important and I would prioritize that especially after a long day of sightseeing and traveling on vacation. Don't stay here. read more

The hotel is nice and I generally love the Aloft brand. The front desk staff is friendly. The room had a mini fridge and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower. The location is perfect and I do love Beatrix being right there and that they have room service. The street noise was very loud though, constant honking. I know it is downtown, and I have stayed in many hotels downtown, some that have quieter rooms, so those will probably be a better fit for me. Residence Inn has guaranteed high floor rooms that are quiet, Moxy has interior corridor rooms, and the Acme always has quiet rooms that don't face the street on a high floor. An owner also left a dog alone in a room that was having a conniption. Either they eventually returned or the front desk took care of it, but it took a long time. Maybe a less pet-friendly hotel would also be better. read more

We stayed just one night here to see a show in the city. Our room was clean and comfortable, but very small, and I thought I paid a premium for a view room however we were looking at the garbage. Speaking of payments, at booking and confirmation/online check in, I was told I was paying then and they still asked me to pay when I got to the hotel. Very confusing. More confusion about parking. It's a few blocks down and the hotel charged me more than the garage itself would've. I parked myself after reading their website and then they validated my parking and I didn't know the cost til after. I assume you're paying more for the perk of going in and out, but that wasn't something I needed so we could've skipped validating through the hotel. I get that location is everything for a hotel like this, but not sure Aloft was enough to justify it for me. read more

Loved this hotel. Why: Location: the location was phenomenal it was walking distance from the key places plenty to do in the area. They had a restaurant down in the lobby it was awesome. The restaurant had happy hour 3-6 which it worked great. Service: The service was good from them sending me an email prior to arriving because the elevators weren't working the had only one working. They accommodate their guests with options. They also let us checkout late it worked out perfectly because we didn't have to head to the airport until 1pm. I highly recommend this hotel/location. read more

I was looking forward to staying at this hotel as stay before in other Aloft in the past, and this is located in the heart of downtown Chicago, but unfortunately, I did not have the same experience in this Marriot Bonvoy as I have had in the past, and this was not because of the people working on this hotel, because I need to say they did a great job in what was in their hands to make me feel welcome. I need to say this is the first Marriot Bonvoy that I don't have access to water or coffee having the Platinum status, also breakfast was included because of my status but the restaurant was not part of the hotel and was very limited and only 20 dollars was including but not including tip or taxes. Having the Platinum status should be able to give us Marriot members extra stuff with on this hotel I did not. This won't be my first pick for a hotel when returning to Chicago. I will recommend if you have the status looking to the others hotels in the area with do give this accommodation. read more

Hotel was nice, fun and upbeat. The rooms were comfortable and just enough of what we needed. However, even being on the 17th floor the noise of the street was crazy loud. Definitely not a well insulated building. We stayed Friday through Sunday and I don't think there was a single day where all the elevators worked so it took at long time getting up and down since the elevator stopped at nearly every floor. Lastly, the restaurant downstairs looked great, I was always packed and you really couldn't get in without a reservation. I would probably stay somewhere else next time. There's too many Marriott properties to deal with 10 min elevator waits/rides. read more

Very bear bones, but a fun vibe and very close to a TON of great food, sites and (comparatively) reasonable parking options. Stayed here with my family for an evening in the city. It is clearly designed to cater to a younger crowd. Minimalist hip decor, with clean rooms and nice views. Rooms were a bit small, but they were fine for a short trip. The building is apparently split between multiple Marriott properties, but Aloft has a designated 24 hour gym and you access the Residence Inn gym as well. Was able to walk to the river and within walking distance to of attractions. Would stay here again. read more

This is a 3 star hotel I'm bumping up to 4 because of the value and great service. The location is honestly the best spot in downtown chicago -- close to bars, river and walkable to major attractions. I arrived on a Thursday morning and was able to check in almost 4 hours early due to the awesome staff at the front desk. They even bumped me up to a high floor as I needed to work and city street noise can be heard on the lower floors. The hotel has a modern, trendy vibe. It was clean and safe. They were offering housekeeping service daily unless you didn't want it. The staff was overall super friendly and provided great service. I stayed in a king bedroom and the layout and huge windows made it feel more spacious and welcoming. Some cons: the walls are super thin -- you can hear conversations, showers, opening/closing of blinds from the adjacent rooms. Halllway noise is also loud as I was right near the elevator. The bathroom is not very private, only a sliding door and may be uncomfortable if sharing the room with someone. Overall I'd stay here again if traveling solo and staying in town for a quick work trip. read more

Beatrix right down stairs Maggiano's across the street, Rain forest cafe and hard rock just down the street. Starbucks and NYC bagel about a block away. Lobby and staff. Staff was always very polite and friendly everyday saying hello and goodbye and asking if we needed anything. Lobby is quite modern with aspects of vintage. Pool table and several sitting areas some 60s era rock pictures were a nice touch. The rooms were nice. 2 big windows. The room is very square with a wall separating the bath area from the bed area. I think it was a great use of space. I have seen other reviews that say that the bath lights were intrusive to the sleeping area but we did not notice this. Beds were very comfortable read more

3 elevators and 2 are broken and the third is barely working. This is ridiculous is an 18 story hotel, what if there was an emergency. We went to Hyatt Place and used their elevator to get to our room in Aloft. Room is fine and bed comfortable. I'm from Louisville and we also have an Aloft that I visit periodically for drinks. My co-workers wanted to get closer to downtown for the evening and picked this hotel. Finding the valet is a bit awkward as it looks like you're heading down a dark alley but the attendant was friendly and fast. Check in was quick. Three clerks at front, very casual and asked about our choice of rooms. They offered dinner selections and a map. At checkout another terrific group took care of us and watched our luggage while we walked to Starbucks. Aloft is in prime area of restaurants and bars, plus close to hitting expressways back home. However, the room was disappointing. It felt like a dorm room that was trying too hard to be cool. Thankfully the bed was comfortable and we only stayed one night. I also felt close to other rooms, hearing people close their shades or the vacuum running the floor above me, toilets flushing. The amenities like shampoo and body wash are in containers in the shower - I always wonder how long something has set in them and typically use my own stuff at that point. This won't be my first pick for a hotel when returning to Chicago. read more

This hotel staff could improve on honesty and professionalism. If they tell you are able to check in by a certain time at the very latest, they are liars. Just because I was with a group of younger girls we were put last and treated in a disposable manner. We were told check in at 3 at the VERY latest. When we arrived back at 3 we were told that they don't know what time we would be able to check in. Not a single guess on a time nor a single room. After we had booked months ago and are members. Let me start by saying that I didn't choose this hotel. We were in Chicago for a wedding, and this was the only Marriott brand hotel that the bridal party selected. I want to also make clear that the hotel staff (front desk and housekeeping) were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. (Not so much for the restaurant crew. Admittedly, we only stopped at the restaurant for a snack upon arrival as the weekend was pretty much filled with wedding events.) The unfortunate part of the experience was the hotel room. Probably the best part was that there were ample electrical outlets. Apparently hoteliers are catching on to the fact that 21st century travellers have a variety of portable devices that require charging. The room itself was pretty cramped. Sitting at the desk, it was nearly impossible to look at the television, and the only place to sit in the room was a desk chair that seemed like a $10 IKEA special. But the real problem with the room was the "facilities." The sink & "closet" area opened (as in no door) onto the entry door to the room. So there is no privacy while doing one's ablutions if someone knocks on the door. While the commode and shower are behind a door, there's only a single lightbulb in that room. As a result, the shower is dark and awkward. My biggest gripe with the room, by far, was the utter lack of storage for hanging clothes. Keep in mind, my wife and I were in Chicago in DECEMBER for a wedding. We each had winter coats and two sets of dress clothes (suits and long dresses). There was NO ACTUAL CLOSET. What the hotel has is a dinky rack like a clothing store that holds a few hangers (see picture). Further problem is that this compartment doesn't go all the way to the floor. So my overcoat and my wife's dresses were hanging out. (Sorry, I didn't think to take a picture of that.) All in all, I'm still a Marriott fan -- the best affinity program around, but I think I'll pass on this particular brand. And I suggest you do the same. Chicago is filled with fantastic hotels. Stick with one of those. read more

It's really a shame for me to have to leave this review. This could have been a really good stay. This hotel does not have one of the most basic functions of a hotel, which is storing your luggage in the lobby after you check out or before you check in. So if there is a time window between your flight out (or in) or If you have a few hours before you check into your next hotel, you're stuck with your luggage. This is especially problematic because the Uber, Lyft and taxi situation in downtown Chicago is brutal. There are not enough drivers and it is expensive to go even 7 minutes away. Luggage storage is part of the absolute minimum requirements of a functioning hotel! read more

Dog friendly!! Brought our two large dogs here and they were nothing but accommodating toward them. The bed was comfortable and the Internet reliable -- perhaps the two most important things to us. Front desk staff was kind and held onto our dog crate for us behind the desk while we went out for lunch and then got the car to drive to the front and pick it up. The room was clean and the walls were thick enough that we didn't any noise from our neighbors. Additionally, it's in a GREAT area of town for a little weekend getaway. We had fun exploring the area and trying the restaurants! The restaurant downstairs isn't anything special and I'd recommend going elsewhere, but that's a separate business and I wrote a separate review for that. Only real con: parking. My advice is to save the parking fee by using spot hero or some parking app ahead of time to reserve a spot in the area. That's how we got parking at half the price the hotel charges. I didn't check out where the hotel's parking is so I can't comment on the convenience factor. Enjoy Chicago! read more

There is no shortage of hotel options in Chicago, so each property needs to do what they can to stand out --- and Aloft's service is their secret sauce. Whether the front staff, house keeping or the folks at the bar, this Aloft team was fantastic! Centrally located in the north end, this Aloft is close to several 4/5 star Italian restaurants. TIP: I have found this W XYZ Bar is be just a fun/lively as some of the local places in the area. If the weather is looking a bit off --- I recommend just heading downstairs and making an evening of it in the lobby. read more

I think it's too expensive for what this place is, but the rooms were nice and I liked the bathroom which is one of my important factors. If you're sharing a room, using the sink and having the light in will be annoying if the other person is sleeping since there's no separation here. The walls are paper thin. I can hear every door slamming and people talking at normal volumes in the hallways as well as everything going on outside the windows on the street. Very frustrating. Sleep with a sound machine app. The front desk receptionist who checked me in was super super nice and efficient. AC worked fine on these 95° days which is great. Some older hotels get super musty and this was comforts me. Overall I like the room and was comfortable, but I just think it's too expensive. read more

We stayed here for three nights during the Chicago marathon. Unloading and loading is a giant hassle. The street was blocked off and you have to pull your car near the pedestrian crosswalk then walk to the hotel to get a baggage cart. The interior of the hotel is nice, as are the rooms. It's in a good area with a lot of dining choices. What really bummed me out is when we were driving home we noticed they charged us for food we did not order. We called and they took off the charge but another Aloft we recently stayed in pulled the same stunt so this really irked me. We shall not return. read more

Oh my goodness! We had such a wonderful stay. Felt like a home away from home. The rooms are honestly not the best, but it's enough to fulfill it's purpose of comfort! The lobby has everything you need: Restaurant, Coffee, Food! It was honestly the best part because I could just walk down and get my coffee or grab a drink. I didn't get to try Beatrix but maybe next time. I'll definitely be checking in again because I had such a great experience! Also, at first I was worried about storing my luggage because I read a review on here saying they weren't doing that, but now it's returned! I was excited to hear that during my stay they brought back the storage rooms. So don't let that turn you away from this great hotel. read more

This was my second stay at an Aloft Hotel (the first being in the brand new Detroit location). I really enjoy this chain and will more than likely go out of my way to stay at another one soon. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I had called prior to arrival and Ryan was very helpful and gave us a great room with a view! Check in and check out went very smooth and was quick and efficient. The elevators were awesome - yes I'm rating the elevators because we were on the 18th floor and never had to wait more than a minute, literally, for an elevator! The lobby was fun with lots of different areas to sit. Loved that they had a pool table although I didn't use it - too much shopping to do. The location is great in my opinion, as one of my goals was to visit at least one of the Rick Bayless restaurants which is just a block down the street. It's close to the subway line as well. Michigan Avenue was a short walk away. The area is completely safe and I felt very comfortable walking late at night with my girlfriend. I took the Amtrak and it was about a $10 cab ride. I would have walked it if the weather was warmer. Make this your home base on your next trip and enjoy!! read more
