We stayed here for a nearby conference. The overall stay didn't stray far from the Hyatt brand, with clean rooms and a beautiful lobby. Given its location in a busy area, there is no complimentary parking, and rates are steep at $60/night for self-parking and $75/night for valet parking. There is also a restaurant attached to the lobby, Ema, which provides a pretty decent free continental breakfast. The main detractor from our stay were issues with the elevators - there are only 2 in the lobby of a very tall building with a lot of floors, and only 1 was functioning at the time. That one elevator is both slow and small, so folks going downstairs in the morning had to wait a significant amount of time for the elevator to arrive, only to find that it was packed and that they needed to wait for the next round - on repeat. The stairs were also, funnily enough, not immediately next to the elevators. Choosing that option was feasible for traveling a few floors down, but unfortunately not with large suitcases upon check-out. The other issue was with the wifi. While connected, my laptop was still unable to smoothly do light work (eg, basic internet searches, use of the Google Workplace), with an excruciating amount of time between each site or change loading. In addition, for several members of our group across multiple cellular networks, mobile data was fairly weak in the building (likely due to the tall skyscrapers in the area), leaving us unable to switch to a personal hotspot as an alternative. read more

Currently staying here with my cousin for a weekend trip and to watch my brother-in-law run the Chicago marathon. It's a bit pricey but it has a nice location, the area is safe and hotel is clean. A bit on the pricier side but it could be because it's the marathon weekend. read more

Excellent stay at the Hyatt! A group of family members came in town for a bit of Chicago festivities. We're so glad we stayed here. It's very well situated and easy to get around to all the fun places - theaters, restaurants, cafes, shopping etc. The rooms are spacious and very clean and the beds are comfy. Downtown Chicago is always busy, but this hotel did not have stated obvious parking which meant that I had to find other parking garages that were a walk with my luggage. The workers were very nice to me as I checked in, but throughout my stay, I lost electricity. It took them a little while to get it working where I had to stay in my room to talk with the electrician where he had to try multiple times to get it working. When I arrived to check-in, I was informed of this and they alerted me they couldn't correct the reservation because they were sold out for the night I needed. My husband and I stayed here if you weeks ago in the middle of August since he had a work conference. The location is great. It did take us about an hour to get here from the airport since there is construction and traffic, but when we flew out on Wednesday, there was really no traffic. My favorite part about the hotel was its location. There were so many restaurants in spots to grab food or drinks within walking distance. The restaurant Ema is attached to the hotel, and their food was really delicious. Check in with easy and we got a room that face the alley. Not the most glamorous view, but it was quiet. Each room has a sound machine which more hotels need since there's a lot of background noise. Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious for two people. Not the most outdated, but not super updated either. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was served in the early mornings at the Ema restaurant. There are plenty of hot and cold items for breakfast. It wasn't anything special, but I always appreciate that breakfast is included. They have a gym, laundry, a water bottle refilling station, and conference rooms in the lower level. The laundry was really great since we were staying there for longer than two days. They have a change machine and you load up the washer or dryer like in college! The front desk will give you soap or you can bring your own. All in all a pleasant day. Recently completed a stay here and would definitely recommend this hotel if you're looking for a place to stay near downtown Chicago. The location of this hotel is super convenient, it's in the River North neighborhood and surrounded by lots of great casual as well as fancier restaurants. The hotel is also located within walking distance of many of downtown Chicago's tourist attractions. We were able to get to Navy Pier, the Loop, Millenium Park, the Riverwalk, Grant Park etc all by foot, which was very handy. The one downside is that there's a fire station located across the street from the hotel, so it does get a bit noisy. We were able to hear sirens on the 9th floor at varying times of the day. It does calm down more at night. The hotel provides a noise machine which masks some of the city noise by basically producing some loud whooshing noises (kind of like if an AC unit was on). This was a great touch that did significantly help with masking the noise. Rooms were spacious and clean. Water pressure in the shower was great as well, much better than other Hyatt Places that I've stayed at. Staff was very friendly. I received an email the night before check in detailing instructions on the check in process and parking, and also received multiple texts during my stay asking if anything could be improved. There's also complimentary luggage holding at the lobby, in case you need to leave after the check out time, which was very convenient. Breakfast was also included, since it's a Hyatt Place. I didn't personally try it, but heard selection was decent and taste was good. Would recommend ditching the car if you choose to stay here - parking is very pricey. They do have valet service (I believe parking was either $40 for self park, $60 for valet or $60 for self park, $80 for valet). Check out the SpotHero app for cheaper parking, I was able to secure a spot in a nearby parking lot for much cheaper compared to the hotel parking. read more

I appreciate hotels that are walking distance to the action, but not smack-dab in the middle of all the activity. Hyatt Place River North is situated in a great neighborhood. Plenty to do, see, eat, & drink in the vicinity but the pace & energy is certainly calmer than a hotel, say, 15 minutes away closer to the Magnificent Mile. Spacious room with two queen beds & seating area. Clean, comfortable beds. Wonderful city view. For a $25 fee, there's an option to check-in early if your room is ready. Made me not dread my early-morning flight arrival. I definitely took a nap before going out on Day 1 of my trip. Price for valet parking is something insane like $69 a night (with in & out privileges.) Request your car via their link 15-20 min before you need it. Seamless process & the valet guys were really nice. Front desk staff, who were super friendly & informative, mentioned that this Hyatt is not a full-service location. Aside from not having a dedicated bell desk, I'm not sure what other services are excluded. When I left my bags at check-out, they were left behind the front desk because their storage area is limited; I retrieved my luggage without incident, but a little disconcerting not to have belongings locked away. Staff here is awesome! They treated our party well. We were able to check in early with a $25 charge. My room was clean, well stocked with essentials and comfortable. The Hyatt Place Chicago/River North was a good hotel in a fantastic neighborhood within walking distance to the Chicago River, Navy Pier and the loop. River North was a fantastic neighborhood to stay at during this visit. There was an abundance of great restaurants and you're within walking distance of the Magnificent Mile for shopping. The staff here was so friendly. While I hold mid-tier Explorist status within the World of Hyatt program, they greeted every guest in this friendly manner. We showed up early as our flight got in earlier than expected and we were fully understanding that our room was not ready. After all, there was a major music festival in town that weekend. However, the staff informed us that they can give us a room on a lower floor if we liked, but there might be some street noise or they can hold our luggage and text us when our room on a higher floor was cleaned and available. We chose the ladder and went to get some breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, this is a Hyatt Place so breakfast is included in all stays. The food was definitely above average from your traditional Hyatt Place breakfast spread and that's because there was a restaurant that occupied the ground floor of the hotel. The breakfast spread was still your traditional Hyatt Place items, but elevated so we definitely felt like we got our money's worth. We were promptly notified once our room was ready. The room had all the elements of a Hyatt Place with a large king size bed and it's cozy corner pull out couch. The space was sufficient, but not large. There were definitely some elements that you don't see your cookie cutter models of Hyatt Places in the suburbs with a fancy light and upgraded shower. Overall, if you're in town for business or this is your first time in Chicago and you don't want to go crazy on your spend, I would recommend this Hyatt Place as a good homebase for all your needs. read more

Pros: There is a restaurant in the hotel- full transparency, I didn't try it, but it's a nice option to have should you want it. The staff greeted me every time I walked into the hotel. Overall, everyone I interacted with there was lovely. The rooms: The room was clean, comfortable and had everything I need for my weekend. The bathroom shower had great pressure, which is something I always check for. The linens were all clean and I felt like they actually did clean the room prior to me entering. The location is nice and is a very short walking distance to things like Michigan Avenue or that famous McDonalds that's there Cons: There really weren't many. I wish they had four elevators and not two because that can slow things down, but that's not going to change. I did arrive several hours early. I was informed some rooms were available but if I wanted in before the official check-in I'd need to pay $25. I chose to not pay the fee. After sitting in the lobby for about 10 minutes, Keondra, from the front desk, informed me she had arranged to get me checked in without a fee. Keondra really saved a lot of face for this property in that one exchange. She should be recognized for her poise and professionalism. It did further irritate me that I was informed upon early check-in that the rooms were not the most desirable. I don't mind that so much, except that I was just prior asked to pay extra to stay in a room that to their own explanation is not as desirable. Bottom line. Good hotel. Nice stay. Had such a great stay here during my trip to Chicago. We got city view king size room and I had requested for a higher floor so we got the 14th floor. The view was amazing and we were just high enough that we could still hear the city noises, but it wasn't super intrusive. The staff here are super nice and friendly. Wifi connectivity wasn't the greatest in our room, so we ended up having to go down to the lobby to get work done. Bus stops very close. Cute Tiki Bar right across the street: Two Dots and a Dash They just started housekeeping services again but we declined and just changed out towels. Felt safe because you have to use your room key to access elevator and to get into hotel after a certain time. Walking the streets around this hotel is safe/ clean and lots of tourists. I stayed here this week when in town for a business trip. I've stayed at the Hyatt Place chain before and they are usually pretty nice. First off, like 10 stars out of 5 for the breakfast! Wow. I was highly impressed - not only was it free, but they had both hot and cold options, although a waffle maker would have been nice. Both days I had rosemary potatoes, ham or sausage, fresh fruit, and bagels and English muffins. The jelly that they offer for the bagels and English muffins is Bonne Maman brand, which usually come with my Hello Fresh subscription boxes, and are little individual bottles of jam. They even had almond milk for me (so rare to find non-dairy milk at free hotel breakfast), albeit in the creamer area. To top that off, they had complimentary copies of both USA Today and the Wall Street Journal, I believe, so I got to read USA Today in print each morning which for me is a treat. For the hotel itself, I'd give like 4/5. My room was very comfortable and modern, but nothing special. It's large by Chicago standards: I had a king bed and also a sitting room area next to it (pull-out couch, I believe). The bed was comfortable and the shower had nice water pressure. My first night was fine; during my second night, I kept hearing what I thought was a doorbell going off, all night, which made it hard to sleep, and it turned out it was the elevator (my room was next to the elevator). There were also some people being loud in the hallways, which I could hear from my room. That being said, I would definitely stay here again, as the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was great, and it has a great location, as well, in the River North area - tons of restaurants nearby and walkable to many area attractions. read more

Location: located a few blocks from subway/bus stops and the river walk and really close to a lot of restaurants/bars. This is probably the best thing about the hotel. Not great if you're brining a car. Self park is a few blocks away for $45/night with in and out privileges. We had a decent view of the city from our room on the 9th floor. The hotel is located next to a fire station so you will definitely hear noise from the nearby areas at night. Rooms: fairly modern decor but the rooms are dated and in need of a refresh. Carpet is worn and the bathrooms are gross - mainly because there is visible mold and mildew all over the shower curtain. Breakfast: perk that it is included in the room rate but don't expect much variety. They have the same thing everyday, which is a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich, danishes, bagels, sugary yogurt and cereals, some fresh fruit (oranges, apples, and bananas if you get there before they run out), and instant oatmeal. For beverages, they have coffee (no tea), packaged milk, orange juice and apple juice. Service: front desk is ok. They said that there wouldn't be any housekeeping because of COVID but someone came into the room while we were out to empty trash and change out the towels. This would have been fine under normal circumstances but unwelcome when we weren't expecting to have someone come in and out of the room. Overall, I think it is the location that is the major selling point here. The property and the restaurant (that breakfast is served in) looks nice from the outside but the dated and unkempt rooms make it less than ideal. read more

When we visited Chicago in November we were looking for a hotel that had great city views and was convenient and in walking distance of the different attractions. Hyatt Place Chicago/North was perfect for our needs. It was in walking distance to the Magnificient Mile, as well as the skyscrapers in the city as well as the lake and walking trails. This was essentially our first trip to Chicago (the wife barely saw any of the city on a past visit and I only drove through as a kid) so we were excited to see what the city might offer. It started off well here with the location being nearly prime via being close to shopping, quality restaurants and river walk being a short walk away. River walk we found out has really been transformed in the past few years. It has the designed look and feel of being in Europe with cafes and bars lining the walkways. The diverse architecture of surrounding buildings only adds to the splendor of Chicago. I have never stayed at a Hyatt Place but they have a "boutique feel" supplied by a large chain hotel company. There is a trendy restaurant and bar on the first floor. We also had a nice included breakfast in there with scrambled eggs, yum pork breakfast sausage, oatmeal with the fixings, donut holes, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, granola, french toast sticks, coffee, juice, milk etc. The room is large so you did not have to fight for a table. The STAFF were friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean with a modern style. Our room had a nice L-shaped sofa for us to drink coffee and enjoy the start of the college football season upon arriving to town. Ironically Northwestern was playing Nebraska when we turned the TV on. The price is not cheap but for downtown at the end of the summer I suppose it is fair. We were all about Uber and Lyft seeing no point in wasting money on a rental car and parking fees along with the hassle of driving in a city we are unfamiliar with. read more

I'm not big on hotels, I usually opt for Airbnb's instead. I was actually really impressed with the Hyatt. Early check in was not guaranteed, but our room was indeed ready early right when we arrived. The bed and pillows were actually comfortable and the sheets/ comforter didn't feel dirty.. they felt clean, but not clinical. The bathroom door was a little odd, as it was a giant piece of sliding frosted glass, but otherwise the room was really nice. The location was prime! It's a short walk to the red line, but there's also plenty of cool things to see within walking distance. Plus they offered a free breakfast, which was nothing special, but definitely did the job. On the day of arrival we were greeted by the receptionist friendly. After the usual formalities we received our keycards. Room: Modern furnishings and, for an American metropolis, generously cut. So we had enough space for us. The bed was super comfortable and we slept very well. Unfortunately, I soon realized what was not working right here. The fridge of the minibar. He grunted like a small helicopter that wants to take off right away. So I switched off the device so we could at least sleep in peace. The next morning I asked the receptionist to take care of this problem. I was assured that the device will be replaced, but unfortunately nothing happened. So I turned off the fridge every night. Breakfast: We were completely starving because the food during the flight was just gross. We received a classic breakfast buffet with American "delicacies". A matter of taste - we became full! Nevertheless, I find it very disturbing to eat in a hotel of hard plastic plates, to drink our coffee from paper cups, to clean the table and to clean up the dishes we uses ourself. The attention of the staff is unfortunately not very large, because often lacked something and you had to ask for it. For a hotel of the Hyatt Group, I definitely expect more service. House keeping: This hotel offers its guests to refrain from housekeeping and to be credited 250 points per day to their membership account. For this you only have to hang the corresponding sign before 11 am from the outside of the room door. So I did it. But on the fourth day, when I wanted to use the cleaning service, I removed the sign and we went to our daily routine. When we returned we found out that the house keeping obviously left our room out. So I called the front desk and asked for new towels, toilet paper and removal of the accumulated garbage. I was told that I would forgo my entire stay on this service to get the extra points. I contradicted that and read the rules to the employee again. After that he apologized for this inconvenience. Service in general: One evening we still had leftovers from a fast food restaurant and wanted to eat them. For this I asked for a way to warm them up with a microwave. In the hallway of our room there was no, but I was assured that they would bring us a microwave to our room. Wow, great service - I thought. But the device never arrived. From home I had done an online order in a webshop and sent it to the hotel. On arrival we received the package. Top! Unfortunately, this service will be charged $ 5.00. At the check-out were unfortunately not asked if we liked the stay. But that also confirms my overall impression. Rachel is the best staff in the house keeping department. We came back to the hotel after a long day touring and found out we left the Do not disturb tag on the door by accident, and the room was not serviced. I called the front desk and they asked Rachel to help us. She has a wonderful attitude and cleaned up everything including replacing the bed sheets, replacing all towels and she kept asking us what else do we need. Sadly, I had a horrible experience at this hotel. I was so excited to come to Chicago because it's a city I've always wanted to visit. Unfortunately, I booked two rooms and one had an overwhelming smell of weed and the other smelled like cigarettes. It can happen, I understand that. I called down to the front desk to see if I could change rooms. The front desk was extremely rude and did not try to accommodate me at all. Their solution was for me to pay to book a different room instead of trying to move me. There are so many places to stay I'm the city. Such a great spacious room for a Chicago Hotel. Separate sitting area. Front desk lowered our rate because today's rate was lowered after we asked. Large bathroom and shower. Free internet and breakfast comes with both nights. Not a bad start for a fun weekend. Very close to all the hot spots, near Michigan avenue, only a 3 block walk. The staff here is really friendly. Nice breakfast buffet and sitting area. This is a great hotel to stay at if you want to experience the heart of Chicago night life and is also a mile from Lake Michigan. Rush Street is a walk or a cab drive away if you are too dressed to walk. A lot of the top restaurants in the city are walking distance away. Magnificent Mile has great shopping and also is in close walking distance. The rates for being in the city are very reasonable, which makes it even more desirable. What I love the most is the comfort of the rooms. Spacious sitting area, bathroom and a nice size closet and dresser drawers to organize your "stuff". The only downfall is the Wi Fi is not so great, slow, and if you have a laptop, it is difficult to get on, at least for me. Stayed here for 3 nights when coming to Chicago for a work expo. I loved the location - right in the heart of Chicago and walking distance to Millenium Park. The room was pretty big with 2 queen beds and a seating area. The room overlooked the city so it always had a beautiful view. However along with that beautiful view came the firehouse located right across the street. Luckily I'm a decent sleeper so it didn't wake me up too much. They do provide a sound machine and ear plugs which is very thoughtful of them. Another thing about the room was the bathroom door. In all honesty, if I had kids I would not stay here. The bathroom door is heavy and slides VERY easily. It closed on my knuckle and was very painful. I could just imagine how easily it would close on a child's fingers. The free breakfast was a nice perk. It definitely helped fuel us for busy days at the trade show and lots of walking. Overall the hotel was nice. It was very convenient that there was a shuttle bus back and forth from the McCormick Convention Center. read more

SO disappointed I've stayed at several Hyatt Place hotels previously and it's always been a great experience. Not so much with this one, located on Grand Ave in River North area. The "breakfast" was pitiful. Absolutely terrible. You are led into the kitchen of the Restaurant "Em" or "Ema" where there are a bunch of cheap, packaged things like McDonalds sausage mcmuffins (but not McDonalds), 3 oz of apple and orange juice containers, plus a minimum of fresh fruit, including green bananas and lousy oranges. They give you the cheapest possible paper plates that collapse if you put any meaningful amount of food on them and so your stuff drops on the floor; the (bad) coffee was available in really small cups. There is no shop where one can purchase sundries like toothpaste, lotion, etc and they charge you if you request a bottle of water which is lukewarm. My stay was when all COVID restrictions were lifted so there's no excuse there. This is just a second rate operation. The Hyatt name is special and this place does it a disservice. read more

Better not booking as a Hyatt member in this hotel, the reservation with member rate at this Hyatt location is non refundable, and no change. I booked for 5 nights, prepaid more than $1,000, but had to change the reservation due to plan change, they let me change once. Then, when I asked for cancellation with 50% penalty, they said cancellation is not permitted. I asked to change the reservation again, they said it's not possible to change. My $1,000+ is literally down the drain. I usually stay at hyatt regency, but this Hyatt place's cancellation policy is different from Hyatt regency. Be cautious!!! read more
