The entire staff of the hotel is so accommodating and wonderful. From the front desk, to the wait staff, to housekeeping, everyone is friendly and very professional. I am currently a guest of the hotel and have stayed here for a week due to my daughter's surgery and recovery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital directly adjoining the hotel. Security is top notch. Once on the second floor hotel lobby, you access the above rooms using your hotel key card in the elevator. The restaurant serves a wonderful brunch buffet from 6:30 AM to 11 AM daily. The wait staff is excellent. Because of my daughter's complications, I have had to extend my stay many times. Debbie, the Assistant Front Office Manager, has assisted me each and every time and taken the burden of my hotel arrangements away, so I may focus on my daughter's recovery. A special thank you to Anne, Ashunti , Kennedie , Mariana in guest services. Karissa, Kenya, Brenda, Joel, restaurant server's, and the chef whose name escapes me. Everyone has made a difficult situation much more bearable, and I appreciate it so much. Many of them were also praying for my daughter, and I truly believe that God answered my prayers. Hyatt always provides us with comfortable rooms and excellent service. One thing I particularly appreciate about this property is its convenient location. It's close to shopping areas, the Chicago River, and numerous restaurants in the city. The hotel also has a Starbucks on the first floor and a Walgreens just across the street. While the service is generally good, it can sometimes be slow. Restaurant and bars is nice and they do have a very nice buffet for breakfast. read more

The hotel is solid. Was recently renovated so the rooms are new and clean. I gave it 3* because the valet parking is atrocious. Disorganized, takes forever, and costs $84/nt. I came from 2 nights at the Chicago Athletic Association where their valet operated so smoothly. I'd stay here again but would think twice about it if I was going to have a car! read more

No complaints here! We booked this hotel for four nights during thanksgiving and when we arrived, our the first floor had a Starbucks which as a Starbucks lover I enjoyed. We went to the second floor to check in, the check in process was super easy and service was great. Since we are hyatt members, we were upgraded to a suite. When we arrived to our room it was huge! Two sinks, huge bathroom, the video was beautiful, it was a corner suite so you even got a view of the lake. Our whole stay was great- the hotel rooms didnt have a microwave so we used one in the hotel lobby to warm up leftovers one day. The only thing I'd say is because we are northwestern university and medical center, there is constantly loud ambulances moving by the hotel but the stay was still amazing. Highly recommend- it's walking distance to the river, Starbucks reserve, and other landmarks! read more

Earlier today I fell asleep waiting for my friend who works at Northwestern Memorial Hosp. in the hotel, and I was approached by a security guard, and I thought it was the P.D. and she told me I couldn't sleep, she couldn't even ask me if I was a guest first which was kind of odd. I went to the front desk and asked who's the operator/owner and it has been NMH for several years. Before that it was the Wyndham. So, if you fall asleep as a guest or a friend of a guest or a friend of an NMH employee you might get approached by NMH security and not the hotel employees. P.S. Since October they connected a bridge to NMH. So, you can enter from the hotel side since it's owned by NMH. read more

The Chicago Hyatt Centric is in a great location. The hotel also offers a very decent breakfast buffet. The rooms were relatively large. My bed was on its last leg and lumpy so it clearly needed to be replaced. Staff were pleasant. There was some lobby construction, but that did not get in the way. I loved everything about this hotel. We stayed here one fall weekend because our son was a had a college football game at soldier field. I was Hyatt Globalist at the time and received an amazing rate on the room. What I loved about the stay the most was the decor of the hotel. You can tell that lots of details went into its design. I also loved the floor to ceiling windows in the room. There was a Starbucks downstairs if you wanted a morning brew and the hotel in general was walking distance to a lot of nearby attractions. We prefer to stay at this Hyatt property whenever coming to Chicago. Celine, the manager gave us another reason to stay here again. Celine bent over backwards to provide a first class, red carpet experience for my family (theyve never stayed at a hotel higher than a 2 star). She made sure that the accommodations were memorable and top quality. The staff was helpful and friendly as always. I have a great appreciation for those workers who are on their feet all day, have long commutes into downtown, have stressful things going on in their lives and still have the energy to be friendly, polite and helpful. Was in Chicago for work and it's on their dime so I can't really speak to the value of the hotel based on the price but I'm not sure I'm willing to pay out of pocket for it. The best part of the hotel is that it's central to Northwestern and easy walk to the magnificent mile and lots of retail. The room was nice but pretty standard king room. The bed was a platform style and pretty low to the ground. I'm short and it was not an issue but I can imagine for someone tall it might be uncomfortable. It was clean and comfortable though and I appreciated the free bottled water. read more

Kind of was between 3 and 4 on this one, but after reflecting more about the hotel in its entirety, I went down with this one... The king room was 4-stars. Comfortable bed and very clean. The closet was large and there was a mini fridge. The room was however very dimly lit even with all lights on, so this may be difficult for work travelers if you need to do much non-computer-based reading. The valet was extremely expensive even for a city - $81 overnight. The Starbucks on the 1st level of the building is basically the all-day food option. The hotel is located across from Northwestern hospital, so this Starbucks location was particularly busy. The hotel bar/restaurant has very limited hours and service was mediocre. Overall, this is a fine option, but not the best place I've stayed in the area as a business traveler who drove to the destination. read more

The Hyatt has been updated and is simply a gorgeous hotel. From the tasteful design to the art, it is a welcoming and calming experience to step inside such a beautiful place. The rooms were spacious, perfectly appointed, clean, and had the most important thing, a comfortable bed. It was an easy valet park just a block away and the shower was great as well. Front desk is super rude, the keurig coffee they keep in the rooms is really bad, the keys to the room they gave us didn't work, there's no free coffee or water downstairs in the lobby, there's basically no free amenities. I had a quick stay last week for meetings downtown and had forgotten how loud it can be. I was woken up by sirens both nights repeatedly. I have stayed at other hotels downtown and do not remember this to be an concern. There is a sound proofing issue with this hotel. I had a nice corner room and the room and hotel itself were clean and relaxing. The sound was the biggest problem as well as the breakfast sausage smell that woke me up on my last night there! First time in Chicago, and man... arrived on the day of the solar eclipse, and what an adventurous week it was. Took in so many sights, ate some ridiculously amazing food, and walked around this beautiful city. The hotel was perfect! The room was spacious, comfortable, with a bar and dining area on the main lobby. A Starbucks on the street level entrance, and it's plotted smack dab in the middle of so many amazing adventures, The Magnificent Mile, the Navy Pier, and many other local eats! The only slight thing that's only a small annoyance is that it's across the street from a hospital- where it being Chicago, was plenty of sirens going throughout the day. But you know what, if ever an emergency, you have safety across the way. But that wasn't really an issue since I was gone most of the time. What's even better, it was company paid- so yeah- ya damn right this was a perfect stay!! Anyway, I promised the wife we would come back together someday, and I already know a great place to stay! Great location, the facilities were clean, the gym had peloton, and the personnel were attentive.

From top to bottom and start to finish this was an exceptional stay. Valet and check in were seamless. The room was clean, quite well appointed and the bathroom linens of excellent quality. The shower performed quite well; leaving you refreshed. The true mark of excellence was the restaurant's breakfast. The ala carte menu items were freshly prepared and not simply lifted from the buffet. Coffee was dark and rich without being acidic. The waitstaff were professional and attentive. There's not much else to say except this hotel most closely resembles European quality, hard to find in the US. read more

Stayed here while I was in town for a work trip. Upon arrival I was a little confused when I entered through the doors and didn't see a lobby area. You have to go up to the 2nd floor for that! I flew in first thing in the morning from Hawaii and was there many hours before check-in time. I thought to just drop off my luggage while I did some sightseeing, but they had a room ready for me right away! They graciously let me check-in and I was able to get some muuuuch needed rest. There was a bit of a mix-up with the payment when I checked in, but I let the girl at the counter know I was part of a big group of folks staying at the hotel and that got all sorted out in the end. My room was very spacious for one person. The bed was comfortable and everything was nice and clean. I also got to enjoy the pool and hot tub on one of the evenings and that was nice amenity. For some reason though, the water in the pool/jaccuzi somehow turned my fingernails light blue. Do note though that the hotel is also located right across of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and sirens can often be heard, but it wasn't too bad the higher up you are. I also enjoyed the Level Two restaurant on a few occasions during a small event and had a nightcap there with coworkers. The staff were very attentive and accommodating. Not to mention, the decor is lovely and the pizzas and drinks are tasty. I would definitely stay here again as the hotel is conveniently located near the Magnificent mile and within walking distance to many sights and eateries like Navy Pier, Millenium Park, and the Starbucks Reserve Roastery. read more

I've stayed here twice this year and both experiences were pretty great! The first time I stayed here, I was planning a work summit that required a bit of coordination.My main point of contact was wonderful to work with, always accommodating and communicative in the months leading up to the summit. At the time of the summit, we did have a few hiccups with the front desk staff having some issues with check-in details. I understand that things happen though and whenever I would follow-up with my point of contact, she would assure me that the details outlined in our contract were all accurate and that the room list and check-in/check-out information were correct as well. So it seems to be that there was so kind of missed communication, albeit on the technical backend or between internal departments. My biggest disappointment there was that whenever I would check-in with the front desk person to inquire and provide feedback that members of our group were receiving misinformation about their number of nights, she suggested that they weren't listening to the information she provided them with upon check-in. However, once I got feedback that it happened to numerous people on consecutive days, I came back to the front desk to see if I could determine why that was happening. Unfortunately, the front desk person told me that she couldn't help me and that it must be something with the way the person on the corporate side of things inputted information. (Which wasn't very helpful - it only gave me the run around when really there was some kind of internal comm issue taking place.) However, during my second stay here I was purely just a guest and not responsible for any additional coordination. That stay was without issue and provided me with all of the comfort and convenience I could ask for. Overall, I think this is a great hotel. The location is wonderful, the hotel bar and restaurant is clutch if you needed a quick bite and the Starbuck's downstairs provides for additional convenience if you are looking to grab a beverage on your way out. read more

Solid experience from beginning to end. I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon with three nights booked for a quick work trip. The check-in area is on the second floor so you do need to go up the elevator and around the corner to get to it. It was pretty easy to find thanks to the door men inside. There's also a Starbucks right there. I stayed in a corner room with a king bed. It was honestly enormous just for one person. It had a lounge area, a large bathroom, and a ton of extra space. I'm talking like, you could do a yoga routine with plenty of room. It was clean, modern, and updated. The view wasn't the absolute best but it was nice. There was a refrigerator, which you don't find in hotels often, and it was much appreciated. I was also surprised to find a sound machine in the room. This was awesome! I didn't have to use my phone for once. During my stay I ventured to the bar on the second floor for a few drinks with coworkers and I don't have any complaints. Offerings that were there but I didn't partake in was the gym, pool and hot tub area, and parking. Overall, this is a great location and I had an enjoyable experience. read more

This hotel does so much right. I stayed here during a recent work conference, and I was very happy with my accomodations during my stay. Some of the stand-out aspects: * The corner room that I got had a nice couch and table, as well as a big bed and tall windows. * The bed was so comfortable. This was my first solo work trip since having my daughter, and as you can imagine, I was looking forward to long sleeps without interruptions. I got that. * Each nightstand had outlets on it, which made it so easy to charge my phone and work in bed on my laptop. * The room also include a sound machine, in case the Chicago traffic below got too loud. * The TV included a Google Chromecast, so I could catch up on my shows before bed. * The room was impeccably cleaned each day. * The bar made great cocktails, and there is a Starbucks to help get you going in the morning. * The hotel staff were so helpful. So why only four stars? As mentioned above, I'm a mom with a new baby. So as you can imagine, I breastfeed, and when I'm traveling, I pump and ship milk home. While the rooms contain refrigerators, the staff were open about the fact that they don't get very cold (appreciate the honesty). And the hotel does not have any small fridges or freezers that they can roll into rooms. Now, they were accommodating. They held my milk in the hotel office's freezer. But handing over breastmilk to the young man working the check-in desk is not an experience that I thought I'd ever have. I implore this great hotel to have a few small, portable fridge/freezers on hand for guests. Along with breastfeeding mamas, these would likely also be appreciated by guests with medications that need cold storage. Overall, though, this was a great stay, and I would 100% stay again when I'm back in Chicago. read more

The amenities advertised are not here. We rented a suite for 3 people on 16th floor. Was suppose to have 2 queen beds and one sofa bed. The very small room had one bed and when we opened sofa bed there were no bedding or pillows for this bed. We waited for linens and pillows to be delivered. The suite was on 16th floor so we could have a view. The shade on primary large window did not go up and down. So we looked at window shade the entire 3 days Because they could not find anyone to correct problem. The TV shuts itself off so many hours. We regularly had tv turn itself off when we were watching 11am news. There were no extra towels, blankets or even toilet paper. We had to go downstairs and wait for someone to find a roll of toilet paper. The service staff tried hard and did their best but no staff can fix rooms that are not ready or are not what is advertised. We are in and out of Chicago every 3 months. Stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights and housekeeping came in late the 2nd day to clean that they ended up not cleaning the room anymore since we were back (in our room) already. Then, for two of the other days, not everything disposable we used were replaced such as the cups and vanity kit. The room was kind of dark too since there were only a few yellow lights but it was spacious enough and very comfortable. There's also complimentary two to three bottles of water daily. The tall guy from concierge was nice, very enthusiastic with his job and even greeted everyone good night when he left for the day. I just didn't get his name. As for dining, there's a restaurant, level two, on level two but it's only open for breakfast (for $31) and dinner and no lunch. That also same for room service (excludes lunch time). I used to absolutely love this hotel. As of today, I like the convenience of it, but it is becoming dated and there are issues with maintenance. Things that miffed me : On my most recent stay, I experienced water temperature issues. The bathroom sink had no cold water. I'm a fan not burning or searing my flesh to wash my hands or brush my teeth, so that upset me. The same issue prevailed in the shower. Also, my shower floor felt almost soft in the middle, as if it could cave in at any minute. I always request a lower floor, normally I'm easily accommodated, no one likes low floors, this visit, there wasn't one available. C'est La Vie! The room was initially cool, but at night, it was almost hot, I had a hard time resting. I'm not saying I won't stay here again, I likely will based on location and amenities nearby, I'll be more diligent with checking all aspects of a room moving forward. Things that I really enjoyed: they have a great staff, with one or two noticeable exceptions. I won't even name the 2, likely, they've been reported before. There is a Starbucks on site, The Capital Grill is adjacent to the hotel, all of the stores are frequent are within a 10 minute walk. They young bell staff man is courteous and very engaging. Everyone at valet is amazing. I appreciate all of the kindness most of the staff offers on a consistent basis. read more

Well, usually when I book a Hyatt Centric it still is very nice and boutique-like. This one was a little odd to me. First of all, there was no room service until dinner time and it stopped at lunchtime. There was no place to eat anything. Second of all when I went to the room it was freezing cold, 60° on the thermostat. I called down to tell them that it was not working because it did not turn on. She said she would send a maintenance crew even though I tried to say I want a new room and then she hung up on me. Luckily, they flipped a button. It seems because the heater started working. Then I tried to take a shower and the shower head would not spew water out. It stayed in the faucet. Again, not the best welcome into this place. I called and it took them over an hour to fix it. I will not be returning to this Hyatt Centric. And that's too bad because it is very close to my family who live on Lakeshore. read more

Excellent hotel overall. The service was outstanding. They were able to get our room ready even though we arrived early in the morning and I was very thankful for that. The restaurant within the hotel was also nice -- friendly service. Two knocks though: - They add a destination charge and then say that you can get $15 back from them if you purchase more than $15 worth from the restaurant. This is to entice you to have breakfast or dinner at the restaurant which costs substantially more, especially if the party is greater than one. - The second nit was the lighting in the room -- or lack thereof. The room was extremely dark and the lights they had were nowhere close to being enough to illuminate the room. read more

Great location, lackluster catering options for vegans, rooms need a cord wrap. So those are the highlights, now for the details. This property is in a great location. Just a block or two off of Michigan Ave. walking distance to Millennium Park and Navy Pier and plenty of things in between. I was here in March for a conference and the catering options for breakfast & lunch left much to be desired. Breakfast had oatmeal, fruit and vegan yogurt options which was nice but do vegans not like hash browns? Why not make them with an alternative to butter so all can enjoy? Lunch was hit or miss - there was always an option but it wasn't ever really that good. Also, when you call cheese a "topping" to a salad, don't mix it in to the salad. I would've loved some of that salad but not after you stirred in all of the "toppings." Also, quinoa isn't a good option for a business function because it very easily gets stuck in your teeth. Snack options for vegans were the worst. One day in particular, everyone got warm soft pretzels (where I'm sure the only non-vegan part of it was the butter to put the salt on them - why not have some unsalted?!) while vegans got a whole apple, orange or a spotty brown banana. I did mention the disappointing food when I checked out & the desk agent (politely) said it wasn't her department. I did hear back from someone after completing the survey after my stay & they basically said the food options were made by the conference organizer in consultation with the catering team...I'm sure the conference organizers didn't tell them how to prepare the salad or hash browns though. The person did say they would share my feedback with the chef so hopefully there are improvements in the future. Finally, the rooms are in dire need of cord wraps for the mess of cords & plugs behind the nightstands. See the pictures from my room. How hard is it to put a cord wrap around those or something to make it look like less of a mess? None of this was serious enough to keep me from coming back but enough that I truly hope they put in the effort to fix before I do. read more

Lobby was large with a hotel bar that was rocking at night with so many different corporate groups. A very busy Starbucks on the hotel's ground floor. No complaints here, minus they charge $6 for an in-room bottle of water (although they do give you a free one). Definitely a solid corporate spot to stay for work. I was here at the Hyatt for a small work conference. My room had the single king bed. I was grateful for the fridge in my room where I was able to store some leftovers. The outlets were placed throughout so that I could plug my laptop and cell phone and work from the bed if I wanted. I visited the fitness center both mornings and was happy with the number of cardio machines and free weights. The hotel provided breakfast and lunches for us and the food was really good. I expected hotel food that would be subpar and I was pleasantly surprised. The ramen at the opening reception had a broth so good I could have drank it by itself. The breakfast and boxed lunch sandwiches were just as good and helped me save a little money from not having to eat outside the hotel. read more

From the fellas working valet and the check-in experience to the bartenders and very clean and spacious room. The hotel is conveniently located a stone's throw from both Lake Michigan and the Magnificent Mile making it ideal to walk to many of the key sites in downtown Chicago. While there, we enjoyed a few drinks at the hotel lobby bar which were superb (and the staff was very friendly). The lobby is quite spacious and ideal for group meet ups. They also have a gym and pool on the fourth four. I was impressed at the size of my corner room with wrap around windows and great views of downtown. Dynamite experience! read more

I stayed at this Hyatt location for four nights while in town recently. We got a good rate through my job and I was able to add on an extra night with no issue. I did have a pending charge for the full amount of the stay, but it was removed and I was only charged for one night after we checked out. The employees at the front desk were super polite and helpful when checking in and out and with my questions about the credit card charge. As others have already mentioned, the lobby is up on the second floor, then you have to walk down a hallway by the bar to get to another set of elevators to get up to the guest rooms. While I was there, the elevators from the ground floor to the second floor lobby were a little wonky, but I was never in too much of a hurry so it wasn't that big of a deal for me. The elevators to the rooms require you to swipe your key to access your floor. The room itself was huge and clean. I had a pretty good view and liked the space in the room so I could do some morning yoga. When I checked in, I was told that housekeeping could be requested but I declined to have them make up the room each day. However, they did clean my room on the second day, so that was a little confusing. I would just ensure you know if/when they will clean the room during your stay. There were plenty of outlets near the desk area and on the side tables - though I noticed that some of the USB ports were pretty slow to charge my devices. I liked the mini fridge, which came in handy for my Lou Malnati's leftovers. Don't drink the water in one of the bedside tables - it's $7. They do supply a couple of small complimentary plastic bottles of water. The amenities of the hotel were nice - a business center/library lounge area, a large bar area, and a restaurant. I really liked the gym - it was large and had weight machines, several ellipticals/treadmills, a Peloton, and lots of free weights. I didn't go in the pool or hot tub, but they are both tiny. The location is nice - close to lots of shopping on Magnificent Mile, a couple blocks from the Starbucks roastery, and a quick Uber to other neighborhoods. I usually like being in quieter areas, but it was fun to stay down in this busy area for once. read more

I don't know why everyone's so down on this hotel. I'll admit, arrival was a tad bumpy. There was a mix-up and the front desk person insisted that my company was covering only 2 nights, not 3, but by the time I checked out it was resolved and the charge wasn't pushed through. Room didn't seem super clean but nothing too alarming. There's a pretty nice gym with a bit of a view of Chicago streets and skyscrapers. The wipes aren't in the most noticeable place, so that's a bit off putting. I went super early in the morning and there were a couple of other guests there, but it was never crowded. The location is pretty great. The Starbucks Roastery is down the street, and it's about a ten minute walk to the river. You can walk or Uber to many Chicago landmarks and attractions. Plus, the price is supppppper reasonable. On the whole, the staff were nice. I'd stay here again if I returned to Chicago. read more

We stayed here for a family weekend, and it was a lot of fun. The hotel has valet parking which made our stay much easier, although the parking is off site, so it was a bit of a wait when needing something out of the car. There are so many wonderful shops and restaurants within walking distance, which was perfect since we were in town mainly for the Harry Potter: Magic at Play experience at Water Tower Place. The LEGO store and American Girl Doll store are also close by, which the kids loved. My biggest complaint was the elevator system - you have to take an elevator down to the lobby, and then from there take another elevator to the ground floor. The on-site pool was a favorite part of the experience, especially with the hot tub - we thoroughly enjoyed it! The hotel bar was a nice respite for the parents. So you're going to the Windy City. Maybe it's a vacation. And maybe it's for work. But either way you know there are a few must-haves for lodging. It has to be centrally located. It needs a space to relax (whether sipping coffee or bourbon) and a place to work (providing a computer and printing is appreciated). Also a place to work out. You may or may not follow through with that intention, but no judgment here. And of course the room has to be welcoming and relaxing. Thankfully, this place meets all the requirements...and then some. Work found me here and I am grateful for it. It served not only as my resting place for a few days, but also a gathering for our team there and for myself and a team member as we prepared for a presentation. The decor was beautiful. The front desk seemed to have the answer to my every question. And though not my brewery of choice, there is a Starbucks on the ground level (the check-in desk is on the second floor). Will I be returning to Chicago anytime soon? I sure hope so. And will I stay at Hyatt Centric when I do? Most definitely! read more
