Gorgeous super quiet room. Even tho I was first room by the elevator, which I love the convenience, was extremely quiet. I slept so good on the magical fluffy pillows. Modern fixtures in the bathroom w a giant shower and a safe. Tv had a lot of channels and ac and hot water worked great. I appreciate the rooms in the Aloft in Columbia. They are just the right size and include a desk for me to work. The beds are comfy. The bathroom wasn't as clean as I would have liked. The toilet needs to be fixed (I told the front desk) because it ran at regular intervals all night. There was no shampoo in the container (I told the front desk). All-in-all, not a bad stay, but I feel like this particular hotel has not aged as well as it could have. read more

This is the second time I've stayed here and I instantly remembered why I didn't love it. It's close enough to walk to a ton of restaurants etc so that's a plus and the lobby is pretty and modern, always having fruit infused water available. However, walls are paper thin and you can hear every including doors shutting, anyone in the hallway, elevator, ice, you name it. The thermostat was set at 68 and barely kicked on, I'm not sure it was working right. We had a view of the train and also next to the police station, more noise and sirens than you could imagine. The toilet ran for 15min each time you Flushed it and the shower was just okay, nothing to get excited about. Barely any hooks in the bathroom and water leaked out of the shower whenever you had it on, all over the floor. Paired with the high parking fees, and the parking garage elevator didn't work either! Made for a budget hotel experience at luxury prices! read more

I had something come up and had to cancel my reservation a week before my stay. Apparently if you book online, you cannot get your money back no matter how far in advance you cancel. i have never had this issue with any Marriott in the past and it makes me not want to continue to support Marriott. read more

I really liked this Aloft. I have only stayed at one other one, and didn't really care for it, so this location really surprised me. I was under the impression that they were all basically the same. I was immediately put at ease by seeing the shower closed off. I am one of those ladies who needs scalding hot water at the end of the day, and that is just not possible when it is open. I want to steam up the joint. There was plenty of counter space at the sink and the room was spacious. I was able to tap into my streaming channels on the television (which is rare), and the beds were very comfortable. Also, actual creamer at the coffee station. No powered garbage, here! The location is fantastic. They are within walking distance to shops and restaurants, and I even made it over to the state building to check out the grounds. I love being about to see the city on foot. read more

This was my first time staying here and the hotel was what I expected for an aloft. Nothing spectacular but the room was very clean and the lounge area very nice. I was there for a short night so I didn't get to experience any of the amenities. Check in was a little questionable where I was not allowed to email a form but required to go print out the form. In a world where we are trying to save trees I hope management changes this requirement. Other than that all was good and valet very efficient. read more

The management on this property are crooks, I may have made the mistake of booking through a 3rd party agency(booking.com) but as I tried to explain to this property, I canceled my reservation the day after I booked it. They refused to issue a refund. This is very poor business practice. The staff member named "Tyler" is very rude and not helpful. She was infuriating. I have never encountered such a situation that could not be resolved. She even went as far as to say that they "would have called me to check on confirming my stay, but there was no phone number." This cannot possibly be accurate either. This could have easily been resolved if they had an inkling of how to treat customer. This was a small problem that could have been resolved. They even charged me more than what booking.com stated I should have been charged. Almost 50$ more. This is a serious disappointment in professionalism all around. I am disgusted with how I have been treated. I hope they enjoy charging me almost 300$ for nothing. read more

I stayed here for the Famously Hot SC Pride Festival in October 2022, as it was the host hotel. If you plan to walk to activities in Columbia, this hotel is a great location as you're close to Gervais St., the State House, and the University of South Carolina. However, it's just far enough away that it is very quiet. The parking garage out back is convenient and has plenty of spaces, although the hotel charges about $14 to self-park and also offers valet. If you use the garage, the hotel gives you a swipe card to exit the garage without having to pay. The room was modern and very clean, although the layout was a bit confusing- the halls on floor four felt like a maze. The beds were comfortable, and I heard no noise all night. My only complaint was that the Wi-Fi internet never worked. I spoke to the front desk worker about it, and he said it had issues on phones but worked on laptops. Since most people use Wi-Fi on a phone, I'm not sure why the hotel doesn't prioritize fixing it. I used a lot of data over the weekend just checking apps, email, and things to do on my phone since it did not work. read more

On the surface, it looks like a 4 star hotel but it is really a budget hotel masquerading as chic luxury. When you look close and at the details, it falls well short of four stars. Carpet looks old and warn, paint is chipping on the walls and there were strange odors in the hallways. It wasn't dirty but seemed dingy. Overall while trying to be very modern it just has a rundown feel and appearance when up close. The price point is very good and the bed was comfortable. The room was spacious and quiet. It just is not what I would expect from a four star + quality hotel as quality amenities as services were lacking, from unclean bar area to a breakfast/takeaway kitchen that had empty coffee pots sitting on counters and crockpots visible through the pass window. Enormous, pet-friendly double queen room on the third floor with clean, comfortable beds, luxurious Drybar bath products! Convenient garage parking right behind the building where you'd expect a surface lot. Friendly staff, walking distance to loads of restaurants. Stayed here with my family on our drive home from Christmas vacation as part of a pit stop to walk my two high schoolers through the university of South Carolina. We thoroughly enjoyed our quick stay here. The outdoor spaces, fun lobby bar, quick but friendly breakfast service, and super comfortable beds were driving our 5 star review. This hotel is super clean and has a hip, modern feel. I had not stayed at this brand before but I will again based on my experience here. The location is perfect within easy walking distance to all the popular downtown spots and right in the Gervais Street restaurant corridor. The king bed was comfortable with decent pillows. Big walk in shower with good pressure and temperature. The room felt spacious for two people. The hotel serves breakfast for an additional fee so we passed on it. Self parking in an adjacent garage was $14.00 a day and valet parking was $22.00. There's a bar open in the evenings and plenty of lobby and outdoor seating. Nice having two separate elevator banks so we didn't have to wait. All in all a good experience. read more

We stayed overnight to watch the USC VS Vanderbilt homecoming game. The hotel is perfectly located just a couple of miles from the University and the football stadium. It is a clean, safe and nicely decorated property. The staff was absolutely amazing. They were over the top helpful and friendly. They have concierge or self parking service. The city parking garage is conveniently located directly behind the hotel. I don't know know why all hotels don't do this. This is hands down the cleanest hotels I've stayed at. Location was great to walk downtown to restaurants. I also was able to go sight seeing at the state house, confederate monument and African-American memorial. Super safe neighborhood to walk during the day and night. I love this hotel. From check in to check out, everyone's friendly and it's always clean. Rooms are a nice size and the beds face away from the door ... so you don't see any light peeking through. Walls aren't too thin and you don't hear everything happening around you. They don't have shampoo/conditioner bottles and instead it's on the wall in the shower. Anna at the bar is amazing! I've probably stayed here 15 times in the last few years and then had a long break ... 8 months not there ... walked in and she remembered me right away! And she makes a mean drink ;) read more

I had occasion to stay at my first Aloft property on a recent trip to Columbia, SC. I was blown away. Check in was quick, efficient, and really friendly. And I was stunned by the stylish, yet somehow casual, lobby. The space gleamed with streamlined, stainless-steel bar stools, and fun accent lighting. Comfortable accents like a pool table and counter-height tables and chairs, gave a nice counterpoint. My room continued the theme, with minimalist, elegant, decor organizing so much functionality into the room, without it seeming crowded. There were MANY USB ports in the night stand and desk, ready to charge with just a cord -- no adapter needed. Drawer and closet space were integrated into a spacious bathroom wall, and the coffee station was inset into that same line of site. I have nothing but praise in the normal function and service categories I look for in a hotel, but I have to say, the real win form me here was just being in such a fun environment for my stay. I live in Columbia but stay downtown every time I work at a conference at the convention center downtown. This was my first time trying the Aloft, and now I'm thinking I may stay here every year. I had a huge room and really enjoyed the clean, modern decor. Service was excellent also. The location is fantastic, with an easy walk to the convention center, bars, restaurants, etc. The only thing I didn't like was the $22 a day parking fee for valet parking, as my date and I both parked cars there (so it was $44 a day for parking between the two of us). Next time we'll plan better and just park one car. read more

The staff is exceptionally friendly. The breakfast is unusually for a hotel, but worth the price. There is a line of individual items to purchase from the first floor as well. The room was small but efficient. It was colorful and caters to a younger crowd. I believe it is pet friendly as well. The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure and temperature are great. Aloft hotels are not fancy. What they are however is clean, straightforward, well run, staffed by upbeat folks, and this one is located downtown a couple blocks from the statehouse. Couldn't be a better location. I arrived at about 1:30am, and to my surprise there were still people drinking at the bar, and the front desk staff greeted me with enthusiasm despite the late hour. My room was clean and laid out exactly as Aloft hotels are around the world, so there is no stress or undue thinking required. This uniformity and friendly upbeat staff are the real strength of this hotel chain and this location only reinforced that notion. read more

This brand hotel has recently been acquired by Marriott but doesn't have the branding or policies associated with Marriott Hotels. What this means is that if you are a Marriott rewards card member, you don't get anything extra cash you would at a Marriott hotel. The front desk people were friendly but offered nothing to surprise your visit. The style is trendy with open room styles but my room had thin walls where you could hear water pipes flowing during the day and night. My door was a magnet to elevator noise and doors closing constantly. The good news was that the parking garage was under repair which meant you didn't have to pay 16 dollars to park your car next door to the hotel. Valet would run you 22 per day. I probably will pick a Marriott brand next time this choice comes up read more

I checked in at 11:25pm on a Monday night. Valet was no where to be found, I parked in the wrong area (guests are to park on the 3rd floor of the garage not the 1st floor). Despite this, Barbara (the night time front desk agent) does her best to make guests stays as pleasant as possible. Upon entering my room I see food crumbs on the floor. I'm immediately concerned about the cleanliness of the room. Upon further inspection the rest of the room seemed to be properly cleaned. When I went the iron my clothes I noticed the iron was rusted. I checked to see if it would leave marks on a white hotel towel and sure enough it made a mess of the towel. I called the front desk and Barbara brought me a new iron within minutes. Overall, my stay was pleasant. Alofts are not full service hotels so keep that in mind when booking. read more

The hotel staff was very nice and attentive. Prior to our travel, we reserved one room with a king size bed however when we arrived we were given a room with two queen size beds. When asked to change, the front desk staff said the hotel was at full capacity. We had a nice view of the city from the third floor. The water pressure was wonderful. The bed was comfort however the pillows are flat. The walls are thin. The room was clean and hand sanitizer stations were in each elevator. read more
