Excellent stay right in the heart of downtown Columbia! The hotel is upscale, clean, and comfortable. Rooms were spacious with great amenities, and the beds were super cozy. The location can't be beat--right next to the State House and walking distance to restaurants, bars, and the USC campus. Staff was friendly and professional. Having Ruth's Chris on-site was a bonus for a nice dinner without leaving the building. Will absolutely stay here again when visiting Columbia! read more

Total and outmost disappointment! For $200+ per night - what should be a luxury hotel is an old decrepit ruin that is on par with a motel 3. First off - the front doors are not open due to construction so entrance is through the Ruth Chris steak house. Reception is located in the hallway on makeshift plastic desks. I requested headphones and person at the desk was trying to avoid getting up and handing me a pair so I asked three times before I got it. Room is clean but worn out. AC is old and tired and getting temperature right is an art form. Water pressure in the shower is great - but keeping water hot is hard. It was either too hot or too cold. There is no complementary bottled water or even one to buy in the room. No clocks or alarms, and certainly no microwave. I ventured in the morning to the front desk to buy coffee and they had none. They directed me to the Ruth Chris steak house for breakfast at $18 a person which comes with coffee. No individual coffee available. Of course I had to wait for restaurant to open. Pool is not operational. Elevators are slow. I was charged twice for valet and had to argue to get it taken off. Let's face it - this is not a hotel. It is a Ruth Chris steak house with attached rooms. Shame on you Hilton!!! I am going back to Marriott! read more

The people who work here are very nice. The location is central. The coffee near the elevators is pretty good. The room was quiet. But that's where it ends. The room is pretty dated. My bathtub looked like it was covered in a layer of rust and the bottom of the tub was brown and worn. The carpet didn't seem very clean and the surfaces could have used a good wipe-down. The parking was $18, but I noticed it was only $10 for a special event. How would they have known if I was a hotel guest or a special event attendee since it was all in the same garage? Rip off. Although it wasn't terrible, I probably wouldn't recommend it. Go to the Hampton or another less expensive option downtown. read more

This place was a disaster from the get go. I told him I was arriving late and they canceled the reservation on me. I got stuck in the worst room possible. It was filthy dirty. The door is not closed properly. It had no microwave no coffee maker. I complained loudly and often and my needs were finally addressed on the last day. I was there stay away from this place. As a Hilton diamond member I have very specific requirements for a hotel to meet. Columbia Center checks the majority of those boxes, enough where I'd give them five stars. The hotel is close to Main Street so walking distance of good restaurants, bars and events. The bed is super comfortable, rooms clean and amenities decent. Breakfast is a miss but that could be fixed by working with Ruth Chris and addressing the service opportunities. We would stay here again. read more

Stayed for a summer weekend. Checked in with the mobile app which was convenient and was able to use digital key throughout stay. The front desk was courteous and helpful when providing information about self parking and acknowledging loyalty status. We stayed in a king bedroom which we were able to choose through the app. The walls are thin and hallways echo as people were walking/talking through them. The bed was very comfortable. The room was standard clean and the bathroom did show signs of wear and tear and the shelf where the towels and bath linens were held was so dusty. Housekeeping did clear dirty bath linens during our stay but did not freshen up the room at all. I had to speak to a staff member to get fresh bath linens. We need to go the pool area during the stay and the hotel offers cold water and soda on the pool deck. There weren't any pool towels when we visited but the staff was able to provide some once we requested. The pool wasn't very clean having leaves and debris floating in it so we didn't stay in the water for long. The hotel is in a great central location walking distance to Soda City and other area restaurants. Also near a strip with lounges and bars for late night. And about 15-20 minutes from airport with no traffic. Overall a good stay for a quick weekend trip. We did not have breakfast at the hotel or eat at the adjoining restaurant. This place was a disaster from the moment we walked in. The room had a weird smell, like someone tried to cover up something with cheap air freshener. The AC barely worked -- it just groaned all night and pushed out warm air like it had given up on life. There weren't enough towels (because apparently two towels counts as "stocked"), and the pull-out couch had zero bedding. I called the front desk and explained exactly what I needed: pillows, sheets, and blankets. The guy shows up with no pillows, looks at me and says, "Oh, you need pillows?" then vanished again -- never to return. You can't make this stuff up. The coffee situation was the icing on the cake. The in-room coffee maker was broken, so I went downstairs -- that one was broken too. At that point, I figured the universe was telling me to give up caffeine and hope. And let's not forget the lovely aroma of weed floating through the hallways like some kind of hotel-wide air freshener. Just really added to the overall "what am I doing here" vibe. Between the smell, the heat, the broken coffee, and the disappearing pillow guy, this stay was pure comedy. I've stayed at plenty of Hiltons that were great -- but this one? Never again. read more

Great hotel with lots of food and entertainment options within walking distance. Great for someone staying on business especially. The staff I encountered were nice and prompt. There is a Ruth Chris attached with one of the best services I have ever received (ask for Ken if you go into the restaurant for dinner). There is a valet option in which we did not drive for the business trip so I didn't get to experience how this service was. The elevators did not take long even with several conferences in the place which was nice. Would recommend to stay here. read more

Checking in, when asked I replied, the last name is Pimentel, like pimento- I proceeded to spell it. After a moment, the somewhat snarky hostess said, we don't have that reservation. That was a little alarming. I haven't ever worked at check-in at a hotel, but I think, something like, Please spell your name for me, might have been more palatable. Oh, she said, I was looking for Himentel. I wonder when she stopped listening. There was no coffee maker in our room. Upon check-out I learned that there should be a coffee maker in every room. Instead I tried to get coffee from the fancy coffee machine in the lobby. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes, I bailed, without coffee. Temperature in the room was erratic. In January, we had a/c set to 67. Through the night, my husband and I would cycle through getting hot, the a/c roughly and loudly, going through its cooling, back to sleep and repeating that about 9-10 x's, so not a great night of sleep. The pillows were pretty uncomfortable too. Ruth's Chris is not part of Hilton, but on property. After an awards ceremony, we went into RC's bar to have a drink. While the people around us were getting served food & drinks, we sat for at least 20 minutes until finally, I got the attention of one of the servers. I was honestly wondering if somehow, we had become invisible, you know, like in a movie. It was pretty expensive. I won't go back there again unless I have to. read more

They're attached to Ruth's Cris restaurant, so I less you're a premium Hilton member, breakfast will run $16 each. Parking was an extra fee. Our digital key did not work for entry. Our app told us we had to check in, -we waited on line to do so l, late at night- only to be told that we in fact did not need to. Upon entry to our room, there was a stain on a bathroom towel, and a hair under the toilet seat. The hours of the in-house restaurant were on the website. Then it says that the same establishment provides room service. There are no room service hours listed anywhere. Allegedly, they stop at 9:30pm. When you're on the road for many hours and depend on eating a meal when you arrive, this is a grave disappointment. The hotel room was nice otherwise, and they provided water bottles. read more

I enjoyed my stay at the Hilton Columbia Center. It is a short walk to many things at the University of South Carolina as well as being within walking distance of a wide variety of restaurants. It is a good place for the business traveler. Check-in was easy, but if you have a lot of luggage you will have to get it to the room yourself, so pack wisely. read more

This is not a full service Hilton as evidenced by our experience. We have stayed at this hotel several times over the last 3 years. This was by far the worst experience we've had at this property. First, we were told to call to see when we could check in. We did this and we're told they couldn't hold the rooms (2) for us unless we were in front of them (we were 10 minutes away)?!? After speaking to several people we finally got the situation resolved. The second day we requested that one room get cleaned. We had to ask twice and never received it...just clean towels. We'll be seeking other properties to lay our heads down the next time we're in Columbia. read more

I was super impressed with the ease of the location - parking, in / out, walking distance to MANY places - CVS, Starbucks, Gas Stations, Wendy's, etc. Price was incredibly expensive for what it was, but I didn't pay :) I would absolutely choose this hotel again just for its location and convenience. read more

I had the most awful experience at a fine hotel that I have ever had in my life and I travel frequently. My arrival was not a problem. However, on the second day of my stay, I became ill and went to my room to rest. Housekeeping was on my hall laughing cursing acting like they were on the street somewhere. They were not professional at all. I know that one of the staff members name is Monica Because someone kept saying, " ain't nobody want your board Monica, the fuck?" When I called down to complain about it, they said they would let the manager know but front desk was just as bad almost. A few hours later one of those same people up on third floor tried to enter my room, but I had the deadbolt on. Why would housekeeping be trying to enter my room at 6 PM in the evening? When I returned from dinner Friday night, I inquired about breakfast to the front desk. She first ignored me and began talking on her walkie and did so for 3 to 4 minutes before acknowledging me at all then when she did tell me that breakfast was in Ruth's Chris she acted like it was a burden. Upon my return from my event on Saturday night, I asked for more towels. The front desk told me she would have to send them up and I said that's fine and she asked me what kind of towels. I didn't think about being specific about towels, so I was confused so she went on to be very ugly and said, "we have bath towels, we have hand towels..." and before she could finish, I said bath towels. One of the rudest experiences I have ever had in my life. This place is awful and if it was the only place to stay, I would never stay there again. Terrible quality for the price. Rude staff that is clearly fed up with their jobs! Not at all customer service oriented! I watched Andrew speak so dismissive to an older gentleman in line ahead of me!! I paid extra for breakfast included and continuously had to "prove" this through email confirmation! The "hostess" at breakfast was so rude. I would definitely go out of my way to recommend everyone to pick a different hotel based solely on quality and cost! I'm beyond disappointed in our stay! What a terrible experience! From the grumpy desk clerks, to someone else's hair on our pillows to coffee pods left in the coffee maker from previous users to poor restaurant service, this was just not good. This hotel has a culture problem which was evidenced by poorly trained employees or people who just don't care. I highly recommend choosing another hotel. read more

Stayed here during the storm Dorian for a few nights. Staff was very friendly and helpful, they even waived the pet fee since we were there for an evacuation. The website promotes free breakfast but they only had Ruth's Chris Steakhouse that offered food. The price of the breakfast there was about $16 a person but Grace at the front desk waived that since it's advertised free in the site. I was sure happy she did because that food was awesome! The hotel was surrounded by other restaurants or fast food options cause of the college presents. So there were many choices if you wanted to venture out. The Hilton had an outside salt water pool that was slightly heated. It was my first time in a salt water pool but really it just means less chemicals. They even had a cooler set up at the pool with water bottles to keep hydrated in the sun. Overall real nice people and place to stay. read more

Very disappointed in the Hilton. For a Hotel charging $400. A night. There wasn't a soap dish in the bathroom, ( you had the small soap sitting on the sink) There wasn't a clock in the bedroom. The bed is a platform but the mattress doesn't fit the platform, so when you walk buy, you can cut your leg. When you called the front desk, they didn't answer, so you had to go downstairs to talk to them. On the positive side, there was a problem with the TV, maintenance was great. It's sad that the Hilton has become so cheap with their service. read more

Im from the UK and all the hilton hotels in the Uk are amazing which is why I thought I'd book the hilton while in America south Carolina and I was so disgusted and disappointed! Do not stay here and waste your money! The front desk girls in the evening are just so rude and unhelpful not willing to go the extra mile and just rude when asked questions. There was a real vibe from the staff that they just didn't want to be there! There was 1 woman who was nice the whole week I stayed there and that's it! Such a disappointment. Highly disappointed once again with Hilton. Maybe it's my fault. Growing up, Hilton hotels were generally a better hotel. I strongly believe that is no longer the case. Checked into a dirty room with some really gross stuff in the toilet. Very evident that the room had not been vacuumed either. Dresser/mini bar is extremely delapitated. The room also has a extremely musty smell. Stayed 6 days. 2 of those days there was no hot water for a shower. Hallways and elevators are not vacuumed and full of dirt and debris. Dirty dishes outside on the floor in front of the door​ across from me stayed there for 2 full days along with a gross q-tip. Maid service "forgot" to clean my room a 2nd time during the stay. One day a maid was blasting inappropriate rap music from her cleaning cart that was full of f-bombs etc audible inside the rooms she was not cleaning. The breakfast was horrible with minimal selections served with cold coffee. It is abundantly clear this place is a has been. Also clear that management could care less about presentation and cleanliness. The only good thing I can say is that Ruth Chris in the lobby was good. If you are looking for an enjoyable stay in downtown Columbia, steer clear of this dump. I let the front desk know of the issues​ with all the above twice. Both times the frontdesk said they would talk to their manager to see what they could do. Took my phone number and said they would call after talking to their manager. Never heard back from anyone. I have to travel to Columbia for business over the next few months. Will not be returning to this cluster ever again. read more

I've stayed here a few times and it's always been efficiently run with very helpful desk staff. On this occasion, my flights were snafued, my luggage failed to accompany me. As I had headed to the airport directly from a Colts game, my 1 am arrival found me attired in my Colts jersey and jeans. Desk staff provided basic toiletries as well as suggestions and directions to purchase business appropriate clothing first thing in the morning. Valet was equally pleasant and efficient. read more

We stayed in this hotel in May 2020 and were so impressed with their covid protocol that we not only decided we'd always stay here as our halfway between Northern VA & FL but would also join Hilton Honors & ALWAYS stay in Hiltons. However, here we are Mar 12,2021 & almost no other customers are wearing masks, including a woman leaning on the front desk counter wearing NO MASK and being told "thank you" for something instead of "please wear a mask, here's one if you don't have one." There are NO signs requesting masking, but there are HUGE easel signs everywhere bragging about the sanitizing, even though science says that touch is not the problem, it's the OTHER PEOPLE not masking and not distancing. 7/9. just checked into the Hilton Columbia center and was booked through a third-party that inadvertently booked be a handicapped room so two minutes after opening the room door I ask the front desk lady if I could switch the room because I would like the room to be available for someone who truly has a handicap!!! She tells me that I have to go back to my third party as opposed to just switching my room as a Hilton Honors guest it doesn't make any sense to me! i guess this property has NO IDEA what customer service is! read more

Spent the weekend so my daughters could attend Bonzai Con at the convention center. Very nice staff especially Laurie in the restaurant. Rooms are clean and beds were comfortable. I love that the bathrooms have fans. It's a little thing but it's a comfort when you shower to have a fan. Not a noisy hotel. You can valet park or self park. The self park is attached directly to the lobby so save the 10 in parking fee. It is a great location to lots of places to eat on Gervais St. I will stay again. read more

The husband and I enjoyed our stay here. We were here as part of a wedding block, so we didnt have any choice in our accommodations. Fortunately, our family made a great choice. The hotel appears relatively new and the rooms are very nice. The lobby was nice and clean. The bathroom in the lobby was immaculate. The bed was very comfortable. I loved the bathroom. It had a number of places to hang your towels, a fan (which I have found to be a rarity in hotels) and Peter Thomas Roth products. In addition they provide an individually wrapped makeup removing towelette, which is my favorite. There is a Ruth's Chris in the lobby. We didn't eat here, but stopped in few a few drinks at the bar and had a good experience. If you decide to self park, the garage is connected to the hotel and very convenient. The hotel is pet friendly. I am not sure if any fees are involved since our pooch didn't travel with us. It did appear, however, that all sizes are permitted since we saw them throughout the hotel. read more

Lovely Property Gracious Service Fantastic Location, & Only a few Bumps in the Road! Visiting this property for the SCASL* Conference & I was warmly greeted and checked in by Josh S. - who couldn't have been more helpful & charming! I was delighted, as the keynote speaker of this conference, to get Presidential Suite, Room 708! W00t! With Iggy Azalea's lyrics to "I'm so fancy" going around my head, I checked out the room. Gorgeous & HUGE! Living room area with two couches, coffered ceiling, 2 big picture windows, wet bar with granite counter tops, microwave, & mini fridge, murphy bed alcove, 2 huge flat screen TV's and a luxury bath. I should throw a party! Not likely, since I'm here to work! Ruth's Chris Steakhouse was the restaurant in the property and ran the room service so I didn't hesitate to order a burger the first night - exhausted by the 6 hours and two airports it took to get here. Sure, there's a 5 Guys Burgers across the street but I'm feelin lazy. Burger arrived in a reasonable amount of time and yum! (See pictures) just what the doctor ordered. My only few bumps in the road with this property were that the phone didn't have a button for housekeeping or the front desk that worked. When I tried to call the front desk, I got a message about my mailbox. So, I had to go down 7 floors to see if housekeeping had a box or electric fan I could borrow (it was 85 degrees & HOT!) Not so much. Also, the room didn't have a room service menu & the Ruth's Chris only used iPads - though on the way back to my room, in the hallway, I found a lovely housekeeper & got a menu! Score! Sadly, no lovely housekeeper attended to my room the next day and I was out ALL DAY at the conference and didn't come back till late. My old tray of food was still there smellin up the room (I thought about putting it out in the hallway but didn't -doh!) and no replacement towels or bed made. I had also left a note asking for real coffee pods since all the room had was decaf (what?) and I left a tip! Ahhh wel, my theory was that the property was fully booked & overloaded with this conference and the staff was working as best they could. THE DAY WAS SAVED BY FREE Fresh Brewed COFFEE....in the lobby the next morning! Much better tasting than pod instant, I re-used my towels (you're welcome, environment) and put the food tray in the hallway. All in all it was an AWESOME stay! The Columbia Conference/Convention Center is just a block away down the street, and though the sidewalk was blocked off due to construction, it really couldn't have been easier to get to! And what a pretty convention center it was! BEST PART OF MY VISIT, after the conference was over & all the librarians drove back home, I sat out in the courtyard by the steaming heated pool, under an umbrella reading a book & just relaxed. Ahhh job well done & a lovely visit! Thank you, Hilton! I have been a Hilton Honors member with various levels of status since 1991. I love the brand and I appreciate their consistency across the brand levels. It's always a treat for me to stay at a full service Hilton. This hotel is beautiful and in a great location. There is a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on the lobby level, which is an added plus for that late evening nightcap glass of Cabernet. The staff is friendly, the rooms are updated and clean, the bed is comfy and the AC blows cold. So why only 3 stars? I could not get hot water in my shower. Lukewarm was the best it would deliver, which made for a quick entrance and exit. Quite disappointing. Aside from that this would have been a 5-star experience. read more

One of the best (perhaps the best) Hilton hotels in which I have stayed. Staff friendly and courteous. Lobby was nice - classic but up to date, and pristine. My room was larger than expected with a king bed, chaise lounge and desk, and there still was enough room for my daughter to walk around without tripping over furniture or each other. Hotel and room were well kept, clean and quiet. Parking garage had easy in/out and inexpensive ($12/day). (I assume they charge for parking because the garage is shared - not exclusive to the hotel and is near the convention center.) This hotel was undergoing some renovations during my stay in July 2018, which is always a good thing - investing in upgrades, but it didn't hinder access to any part of the hotel. There were/are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Not many shops, but plenty within a mile. I would absolutely stay here again. read more

Highly recommended! I stayed here for a conference for three days and two nights during the week. I did not have any issue during my stay. I used the parking garage for parking the entire time. The garage was well lit during night and day hours. Pets are allowed to stay in certain rooms. The rooms was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The beds are very soft and clean. There is a steak House on site. There was many amenities on site for guest to use. I didn't eat the food, but a co-worker said the coffee was good. There is a snack bar to get snacks if you need them and don't want to go out to purchase near the front desk. read more

My room was clean besides me finding a drawer full of thongs when I was looking for an iron. My sister room , the covers had fresh period stains on them as if the covers weren't washed. When she called front desk she was told "you can come down and look and see if we have clean covers " This was 2 am and nobody felt like going down to the lobby . Very comfortable stay in a charming college town last night. If I lived in Columbia, SC, I would be very familiar with this part of town. It reminds me of New Haven, CT - Yale town - just about everything you could want is within walking distance. The Hilton is right across the street from Five Guys Burgers; I could live here. I checked in last night in under 5 minutes and my room was very clean and comfortable. The lobby is well-appointed also. The bed and shower were perfect and I certainly appreciated the make-up remover towelette in my room after many hours driving to get here yesterday. I received my recorded wake-up call 5 minutes before the requested time. Wi-Fi is, of course, available to guests. I would absolutely recommend a stay here and dinner at the nearby Cola's Restaurant. read more
