My room was really nice and had a ceiling fan, nice touch! The walls are paper thin. I was not sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. Positive: The room itself was great! Love the brick walls and how large it was. The location was great and everywhere we needed to go was a short walk or drive. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although there is a hospital across the street, we didn't hear anything, possibly because of the location of our room. Negative: When we drove in, there were A LOT of homeless people walking around so I was not sure how safe the area was. Some were carrying booze and talking to self. Not great when it was just me and my small child. There is a homeless mission about 2 blocks away from the hotel. However, after the first night we saw mostly diners and such walking around and felt generally safe. Another drawback was the tiny parking lot, with a hefty price of $18 a night and no valet. If you get back to your room late, you would likely have to park in a garage across the street, which we had to do. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. read more

This hotel did not disappoint! Came to Columbia for a wedding. I came early to booked my first night here but the second two nights at the wedding host hotel. I got in very late due to pouring rain driving from CLT. But when I got to the room it was a quiet respite. Large room, with high unfinished ceiling, beautiful bathroom with lovely toiletries and a great robe. It's a small hotel in comparison to chains which was a nice change. They offer a breakfast downstairs that is locally made with warm quiche or pastries and great local coffee. The service is superb, attention was paid to every detail and to me as a guest. I sat in the lobby (which is also where they set up breakfast) and worked for the afternoon. It's modern and chic, yet still has the warmth and southern charm. I did not want to leave. If I could have cancelled the reservation at the other hotel, I would have absolutely extended my stay here. I hope that I have an opportunity to return to Columbia and be a guest of Hotel Trundle again. I highly recommend this hotel for the accommodations, the service and each employee that I interacted with. A win-win all around. read more

WONDERFUL!! Hotel Trundle is a GORGEOUS boutique hotel and tastefully put together with southern charm. As an Los Angeles native, I felt like I was at home. Rooms are comfortable, clean, and inviting. The lobby area is dotted with colorful chairs and features various books and boardgames to lounge away. Complimentary breakfast provided was a surprise bonus including some yummy Chicken Biscuits. Latoya, the guest services manager, was incredibly friendly and accommodating our early check request when we landed in town at 10AM. I want to share one thing so that I can get on with the rest of this review. Don't be fooled like I was! When I was looking for a place to stay in Columbia, I found the listing for this hotel and thought to myself "What a concept, a Hotel with all trundle beds!" Sadly, during my stay, not a trundle bed was to be found, apparently this was my misunderstanding, not the fault of the hotel. Still, a lost opportunity, perhaps. Having said that, Hotel Trundle is a comfortable boutique hotel located right in the heart of downtown Columbia, SC. Nearly everything in this hopping little town that I was interested in was within easy walking distance. The check-in process was seamless and the greeter at the front desk was outgoing and helpful. It's such a pleasure to interact with a person that appears to enjoy their job and are exceptional at it. The room itself was spacious and had a cute retro chic vibe to it, I especially appreciated the room layout which placed everything as if it was a loft apartment. Things such as the included refrigerator, microwave, bottled water/beverage service and coffee maker fell right to hand very naturally. The bath had modern fixtures and was well appointed in sort of a Scandinavian style which was a contrast to the decor in the room itself. A breakfast is included with the price of your room. Simply select from the on-line items offered that day and what time you would like them to be delivered to you the next morning. This process is well explained at check-in. My breakfast was delivered at the exact time of my request and was very satisfying. Try the yogurt with the fruit compote; all of my breakfast selections were great but the freshness of the yogurt and fruit knocked it out of the park. Included in-room coffee service was covered with a Keurig single cup machine, hotel logo diner-style mugs and beverage pods with Loveland Coffee Company offerings and tea. There is also a coffee service area adjacent to the check in desk which doubles as a well-stocked bar! They offer the ability to stream subscribed content from your phone to the in-room video entertainment. The instructions to accomplish this are clear and should be easy for anyone who is comfortable with modern technology. Otherwise there is a good lineup of standard channels to choose from which should keep you entertained. Something that impressed me during my visit was the attention to detail- little items that the hotel staff do with purpose made my stay just a little bit nicer. At first I balked at the daily fee for parking in their private lot, but I soon realized that it was well worth the money spent for the convenient location near the hotel's rear entrance and the ability to come and go but always be assured of having a parking spot when you return. Trust me on this that it is a good investment and will make your visit just a small bit more enjoyable. Check out was equally seamless and I was genuinely sad to have to leave this treasure of a hotel. The hostess at the desk asked me if I had enjoyed my stay, and I told her that there wasn't a thing that I could think of that I would want different. I really was as close to a perfect stay as I can recall at an hotel I have visited in my world travels. We eagerly look forward to our next visit to the charming and vibrant city of Columbia and Hotel Trundle. P.S. Looking for some fun? Highly recommend this hotel! The room was spacious and decorated nicely with fun artwork. Had a great nights sleep, it was quiet and the beds were so comfortable. Appreciated the little extras- robe, slippers and super cute toiletries that smelled amazing. Our kids really loved the lobby, we stopped to play connect 4 on our way in and out. Plenty of local restaurants in walking distance. Breakfast was delicious and they sent us on our way with little packets of caramel corn for the ride. We were staying for a slightly extended weekend in Columbia and wanted to stay downtown. I chose this hotel based on price, convenience, the included breakfast, and its generally good reviews. I called ahead to find out about parking. It sounds like in normal (non-Covid) times, they may just have valet parking. However, now it is self-parking (which I actually prefer). You can either park in the lot adjacent to the hotel or, if it is full, pay $10 a day to park in a public garage across the street. We arrived around 3:30 p.m. on a Thursday. Check-in was easy; they have about 3 spots in front of the hotel for unloading, and you can take the bags up to the room before you have to move the car. The only thing I wasn't clear on was how to access their parking lot. I was sort of told I could turn in just past the hotel and access it - which was technically true. However, the adjacent alley turned out to be one-way (the opposite way). Luckily I didn't encounter anyone coming out. To access it the correct way, turn right at the corner traffic light and the parking entrance is the first right off that street... The lot is adequate, if a bit tight. There are around 8 - 10 regular spaces plus maybe 4 parallel parking in the exit-alley. We always found a space in the lot throughout our stay. You can also access the hotel (right at the elevator) from a door that opens onto the parking lot. They offer you a beer-on-tap or a mini-bottle of wine upon check-in. The guy who checked us in was very friendly and welcoming. All the staff we interacted with seemed really nice. They have 2 floors. We were on the upper floor overlooking the parking lot. We were initially apprehensive as we noted a hospital across the street. We were not sure whether we'd be hearing ambulances at all hours. However, I don't recall hearing any sirens at night. On our first night the adjacent rooms were likely empty; it was all very quiet. On our 2nd and 3rd nights, one or both adjacent rooms were occupied. The walls seemed pretty thin; our neighbors were not partying all night, so it wasn't a huge issue, though I could see this being a problem depending on who stayed there when... As for breakfast, it appeared that they probably ran a small buffet in normal times. Currently, however, it was more complicated. They had partnered with a breakfast / lunch place across the street. You would basically get a text at 4 p.m. daily, asking you to make your breakfast selection by 11 p.m. (I think). The menu had around 6 selections and you could request a 15-minute timeslot each morning (starting at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends, I think). We used this on 2 out of 3 mornings and opted to go out to grab an earlier sit-down breakfast on our middle day. The food was okay, depending on how flexible you are and whether you liked any of their options. As for location, the hotel was within a block of Main Street in the heart of downtown. It was less than 2 blocks to the Columbia Museum of Art and about 6 blocks to the state capitol building. There were a lot of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. The Soda City Market (every Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.) is on the closed-off Main Street, and is worth checking out. The only other tip I can offer is that you may not want to take the stairs to exit the building (vs. the elevator). The stairs let you out in back of the building where you can choose between two long alleyways to access a street. It was unexpectedly deserted that way, so we always left out the front door after one experience. I'd consider staying here again under similar circumstances. read more

Hotel Trundle definitely sets itself apart from other hotels in Columbia. Clean, comfortable and Posh yet elegant! Slightly eclectic all while preserving its beautiful historical architecture! From the time you enter the hotel everything is breathtaking! The front desk staff and very friendly and welcoming! I must say the tour of their standard room was my favorite part. The bathroom was clean and spacious and beautifully yet simply decorated. The staff is so helpful and went above & beyond for our Classic Night Out Package where we had a Sip & Stir experience + dinner at Hampton St Vineyards where we walked to. We stayed at Hotel Trundle located in Columbia, SC. The location was in the heart of downtown which was fabulous. We could walk to the State House, Museum of Art, and a block from Main Street. The room was adorable and had everything that we needed for a lovely stay. We had a fabulous greeting from the front desk when we arrived. We were given popcorn, bottled water and offered an adult beverage. They even had an IPA on tap. Breakfast sandwiches were brought to our room from the Sandwich Depot located across the street. It was great having it brought to our room but the meal itself was a little unimpressive. We gave this hotel a rating of four due to the noise. It was like there was no buffering for the noise. There was an urgent care across the street so sirens could be heard throughout the night. Down the hall was a loud party and it was like it was happening right outside our door. The pillows in this place are awful. They are overwashed, hard, and lumpy and should have been decommissioned years ago. The bathrooms in the rooms have loose fitting barn doors that don't have locks. This lack of basic privacy caused embarrassing moments multiple times. These small items represent a massive oversight. The place is beautiful, but I couldn't get comfortable, couldn't sleep, and my neck hurts. This was my second start at Hotel Trundle and it was fantastic. It's a cute boutique hotel with both charm and comfort. During this stay, I brought my family and purchased the kids' Glamping Package. Our room was outfitted with an adorable tent, with kids books, cozy bedding, and a starry night light. The kids loved playing in the tent and my daughter slept in it one night. Our room was spacious, quiet, clean, and overall very comfortable. There is a small bar in the lobby, with beer and wine, with tons of artsy sitting spaces. There's also a great morning breakfast nook with coffee, tea, and bagels. The hotel does not have an on-site restaurant, but is walking distance to several great dining options AND offers breakfast delivery to your room each morning. I'll definitely stay here again and recommend it as a top choice for Columbia. read more

I want to state immediately that I have not stayed at the Hotel Trundle. I'm writing this review to raise awareness of their zero forgiveness when it comes to their cancellation policy. I was scheduled to be there four nights this week for a business trip, but my wife became violently ill with a stomach bug last night. We waited through dinner time to see if she would improve, but she didn't and we certainly don't want to spread what she has. We made the decision to cancel the reservation less than 2 hours past the cancellation time of 6:00 PM EST and the hotel enforced their right to charge me for the first night's rate. While the hotel had the right to charge me for the late cancellation, this is a perfect example of winning the battle but losing the war. I travel 40 weeks per year and looked forward to establishing a relationship with this property. I will be rescheduling the visit to my customer, but the Hotel Trundle's decision to confiscate $263.52 from me will cost them thousands of dollars in my repeat business. read more

I love this cool boutique hotel! It's perfectly decorated and everywhere you look there are unique historic touches. Our room features the old elevator shaft which is a fun place to sit and read. The service here is super friendly! There is a bar at the hotel lobby with great local beers and wine. The turndown service includes caramel corn! Decorations in the room include retro 50's style microwave and refrigerator. The location is perfectly close to the Columbia Art Museum and an easy walk to fun restaurants. TLDR: Nice hotel, incompetent customer service. I paid for a room during my stay in Columbia last weekend (August 14-15). I stayed in the room with my mom as one last vacation before we had to go back to work (in addition to me starting graduate school). The hotel is beautiful. We loved the theme as well as the room. The hotel is downtown right across from a hospital, so there were unfortunately lots of sirens. When we checked in, the woman at the front desk was friendly, but perhaps too friendly as one of her friends came in during my check-in and they had a conversation while I waited for my room key. She was nice enough; however, I later discovered I had been charged twice for the room, which I'd already paid for via Expedia. Basically, I ended up paying for the room THREE times because the woman at the front desk charged me TWICE (I assume not realizing I'd already paid through a third party). When I noticed the charges the next morning, I approached the man at the front desk during our checkout. As I explained the problem to him, he immediately began talking over me to "explain" the mistake. He said he could not see the charges at the front desk (the same front desk and computer where the charges were initially made) and had to call the owner to deal with the issue. He said they would give me a call the next day....I never received an apology; instead, as soon as I handed him my room key he turned his attention to another patron and did not even say goodbye. The next morning, I had to call the hotel because I hadn't received any communication about the charges. I had also sent an email the previous night as soon as I got home. The same man from checkout is the one who answered the phone, again saying he had no way of seeing the charges. He stated that "if" they had accidentally charged me (I showed him screenshots of the charges the previous day)....the owner would get back to me about it. I finally received an email from the owner later that day stating the charges would be reversed within 4-5 business days...he also said they wouldn't charge me the parking fee...great, $19 refunded to me as a courtesy (sarcasm)..:.needless to say, despite the beauty of the hotel, I will NOT be staying here again. The inconvenience is not worth it at all and I don't feel my issue was prioritized nor rectified in a manner that grants me any sense of respect. Update: I was still charged for parking despite being told I would be refunded for it -- I'll be disputing this charge with my bank. read more

There's coffee in the room but they also serve local coffee in the lobby, which is a nice touch. They've also done an excellent job with Covid regulations. I called the hotel to see if they would work with me on refunding all/any portion of my charges, and they refused to help. I wanted to support a local business, but this is not one I would recommend. I realize that I made a mistake, but the refusal to work with me on it was very disappointing. I would have definitely been back in the future otherwise. The person I spoke with said the owner - Marcus Munse - specifically said he would not consider a refund at all. I'd like to start by saying this hotel is awesome. We stay in hotels a lot and it's one of the best. It's beautiful. It's fun to look at. The design concept and decor is smart and unique. The staff is the bees knees. The beds are comfortable and clean. Would I stay here again? In a heartbeat. That being said, there is one problem. I came into town with two teens for a multi day sports tournament that we had to get up early for. Around 11 we turned down the lights and started to doze off. Then it happened. The neighbors next door checked in. You could hear every word, every footstep, every moan, every slapping together of thighs, every theatrical "O", and even the afterglow conversation, in crystal clear high fidelity. After an hour and a half of waiting for completion (you go sir!), we finally gave up and the wonderful staff moved us to a quiet room. They even gave me a big ol' glass of wine for the trouble which was sweet. If you are traveling with kids this may not be the best option. If you actually need to sleep I highly recommend earplugs. The walls are paper thin. Because earplugs are cheap and it was fairy tale wonderful otherwise, I'm not going to be a d*ck (like Karen was getting next door) and ruin the perfect rating. 5 stars. read more

Wanted something other than a chain hotel and this fit the bill perfectly - it was a bit quirky, charming, and historic with modern furnishings. I'm glad we got the King Suite, though it wasn't huge, it was definitely more spacious than the tiny standard rooms. The bathroom was elegantly decorated with white and gray tile and it was super spacious with double sinks and a separate shower/bath. Sleep came easy in the comfortable bed with crisp fresh linens. The staff was unobtrusive but graciously made our stay comfortable and welcome. We did not partake in the continental breakfast, but the spread looked like they used local purveyors rather than a Sysco truck. Centrally located, it was walking distance to many restaurants.
