Before making my appointment I saw there were quite a few negative reviews so I thought I'd share my positive experience. I don't know about everyone else but after seeing my PCP and dermatologist already, Dr. Sreedharan was the first provider I felt actually listened to me and took the time to figure out what was going on and then thoroughly explained to me, in a way that I could understand, what has happening in my own body. My 3 year old has been suffering from a *constant* cough from September 2021. Her pediatrician said she must have post-nasal drip cough caused by allergies. With the fear of covid all around, all the reasons why you would see your PCP are, now, all the reasons why you are not allowed into the office... cough, included and perhaps- especially. So, after about 10 telehealth visits and instructions to give zyrtec daily and vacuum (I do that 5 times a day regardless) and air out mattresses and zero improvement - I was desperate and searched for a local allergy specialist online. Aloha Allergy and Immunology came up and were, thankfully, still taking new patients! We have HMSA PPO federal plan so we didn't need a referral to make an appointment. I understand that covid can be scary if you haven't had it, but it was truly heartbreaking to watch my poor toddler have coughing fits throughout the day and even wake her from sleep and her pediatrician was unwilling to see her in office because of her chronic cough. But on our first appointment, Dr. Lucuab-Fegurgur and staff were so compassionate and understanding to my daughter's situation. They expressed genuine concern for her well-being and didn't treat her like a walking disease. We discovered that her coughing was due to post-nasal drip and she has allergic rhinitis which is like an allergy- induced asthma. They did a scratch test to see what amongst the common irritants, were possibly affecting her. Come to find out, she's extremely allergic to dust mites and cockroach. Two things I cannot avoid in island... like- hardly at all. However, we know now how best we can help her. I have a lot of laundry and need to set up traps regularly in the car and at home. No stuffed animals or rugs- etc. She's on montelukast, Flonase, zyrtec and (when needed) albuterol. As long as she is propped up, she does not usually have a problem sleeping without anything. Anyway, Dr. L is an answer to prayer! She is WONDERFUL. She is kind and attentive and has helped my daughter be able to return to normal activities like school and play dates without getting dirty looks from those unaware that allergic coughs are a thing and not contagious... if you or someone you know needs an allergy specialist, Aloha Allergy and Immunology is your bet! To receive allergen immunotherapy (aka allergy shots) is nothing new for me. As a child, I didn't know that "my normal"--to be sick, to "feel like poo," to spend more days than not in bed rather than in a classroom--I had no clue this wouldn't be a part of everyone's childhood memories. Itchy eyes, headaches, sinus infections, congestion, wheezing, hives; that you shouldn't forget to pack a hanky cuz you know you'll need to wipe or blow that stuffy nose--I thought these things just came along with being alive, being human. In my child-mind, they were conditions that we all suffer again & again from; we have to learn how to enjoy life alongside them. As it's easy to guess--immunotherapy treatment has had a profound effect on my physical & emotional quality of life. My life has changed from being under the care of physicians specializing in allergy immunology. ALOHA ALLERGY AND IMMUNOLOGY is not the first practice I've been a client of. Every allergen medical site that's treated me has provided successful outcomes from allergy shots. ALOHA ALLERGY AND IMMUNOLOGY has offered me this *plus* much more. I am lucky to be treated by Dr. O, Dr. Shah, Dr. Lucab, Dr. Akila, AND all of their medical assistants, including Marisa, Fe, Ivana, & Desiree. As a whole, they not only make up a professional team that you can trust will determine the best medical approach & appropriate time-table for sorting out allergy & immunology issues . . . they make up a unit that feels & behaves like family. Don't go here unless you want billing issues and unnecessary medical bills you already addressed with your provider and paid for. Doctors are great and most staff is always friendly BUT we have no trust in front desk staff member's comprehension of processing claims properly. We have ran into so many billing issues with this clinic because they don't know what they are doing. I switched benefits providers a month ago and the front desk person (I don't want to post her name) sends the billing company all the previous and settled claims because she states "it's for them to organize". Now the billing company is trying to collect on older bills that have been paid and are irrelevant. The desk lady not once discussed any bills with me in the 2 years going there and this week she tells me to call the billing department directly to figure out why my billing is messed up and we have a balance owed of $500 plus. I thought that was her job? It is because of her lack of understanding on how to process claims and contact insurance is why we are in this mess and leaving this clinic. As you can see communication is not great here. No one addresses your questions immediately or at all through email or when you leave a phone message. Such a pain to have to 'fix' this because of a staff member's laziness. read more

I was referred because there wasn't any availability at the Tripler allergy clinic and was seen off base at this clinic. The receptionist was very polite and professional over the phone when making my appointment and gathering my information for my referral. It was helpful when they mailed me paperwork which included the health history and information about preparation for my appointment and the clinic. When I got to my appointment I was seen quickly after signing in and the nurse (Shauna?) was polite and took care of any questions and vitals right away. Dr. Shah answered a lot of questions and was really thorough with my examination looking at my prescriptions, going over timelines, and even my pictures. She described the different rashes and outbreaks I've been experiencing. Finally, the allergy prick test. The nurse came back and administered the test and was really good at giving you a heads up as to where she was going to do it and was fast. Nice enough to cover my clothes that were near it so the liquids wouldn't fall on it. After about 15 minutes, they put a cream and gave me an antihistamine medicine after to help with the itching. Unfortunately I reacted to all of the allergens so I will be returning for a follow up to help further clarify what's going on. Parking is discounted to $1 per half hour which is kind of a bummer, but they do have coffee and a snack shop downstairs. read more

Dr. Ostroukhova & Hilo office staff were prompt & friendly. However, after doing patch testing & sending images of my back, I still have no idea what my allergy is. Follow up virtual visit was with Dr. Lucuab-Fegurgar. She is professional & friendly, but didn't have the results from my testing & wasn't aware of my emailed patch testing images. I am disappointed that I still have the issue with no diagnosis!! I am told that because I chose to have the patches placed & then email images instead of going to Oahu that my results may not be definitive. I certainly wasn't told this at time of testing. After insurance, my bill is over 300.00 & I have no answers. read more

I have been afflicted by a painful skin condition since I was a child, the steroid creams and greasy topicals seemed to only mask the symptoms or make them worse in the long run. Doing my own research and trying different methods treat my condition led me to Dr. Ostroukhova. Having a specialist in allergy Immunology made all the difference in the world, Dr. Ostroukhova gave me a thorough allergy test and I was able to find out what was really going on with my body, suddenly everything made sense. People, pay attention to your body! Never settle for the first diagnosis from your PCP as I sure did not. I pushed for my PCP to refer me to a specialist and I am so glad I did. I had no wait, the front desk staff was so caring and they worked like a well oiled machine which made my experience very smooth. Dr. O was great when I saw her. However I never would have gone had I known what my copay would be. I specifically ASKED what it might look like as I'm budget conscious and never saw an allergist before. The answer I got was vague and sorta like "around what your insurance usually is.." After getting skin tests which took about 10 minutes and consulting with the doctor, I later received a copay bill for $230!!!!?? WHAT?! I called to set up a payment plan with billing and then called the office to discuss my disappointment with the doctor. The doctor wasn't available and the receptionist told me that yes, insurance usually doesn't cover allergists thoroughly and copays are typically around that amount. I never would have imagined it would be that high -- I paid $90 for SURGERY on this same insurance. It's unfortunate that I didn't find this out until after I was billed, particularly because I inquired about copays prior to my appointment. If it's common knowledge among staff, they should have an obligation to inform potential patients -- especially those who ASK out of financial concern -- ahead of time. Also I asked for the doctor to call me back and no one ever did. Disappointing and now stuck with a monthly payment for the next many months. Update: WOW. I'm mind blown by the sheer unprofessional and antagonistic culture of this office. As one can see from the doctors reply, this clearly isn't an office of high customer service quality. I think a more apt response would have read more like "I'm sorry for THE misunderstanding, we should have advised you to check with insurance when you expressed financial concern and it's unfortunate that we did not, as that's our usual protocol".. or something along those lines. Just spoke with billing who, rather than provide understanding to my dilemma, proceeded to argue with me about how I should have used different language (co-pay vs testing fees) and reviewed my insurance manual. Customer service rule #1 -- if you have an upset patient, hear them out, let their concerns be legitimate, don't argue and raise your voice to them. It's pretty basic. I was already upset and thanked her for allowing me to vent and then she fully started arguing and raising her voice -- truly mind blowing. First off, I'm not a medical professional so as the patient it is not my responsibility to know what language to use. It is, however, the providers responsibility to recognize that when a prospective patient is verbalizing concern about cost, that THEY should be the ones to say, hey, not only will you have a copay but you'll also have testing fees, you probably don't know that as you've never seen an allergist, and you should check with your insurance as it's often expensive. Interestingly, the EXACT ADVICE I AM SAYING THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN ME PRIOR was stated by the doctor in her reply -- normally they tell people to check with insurance. It appears the doctor missed my point in my original review entirely by getting focused on the word "copay" and ignoring the larger issue -- that I had specifically asked about the financial aspect of this appointment and was told, essentially, "no biggie" rather than what they SHOULD have advised me with, which is to check it out with insurance first as it's often spendy. This office should spend less time chastising patents and more time training it's staff to service them appropriately and with compassion and foresight. read more

Unnecessary tests/medications requested of patient. Office does not like patients to reschedule even 2 weeks prior to an appointment. Best to seek services somewhere more professional. read more

Dr. Ostroukhova is so amazing! Friendly staff and caring. They have telehealth video appointments and that saves a trip in the car!

When I first started coming here the staff was a lot more friendly. Unfortunately it is true that everytime you walk in there is gossip I can overhear them talking about me. Although I speak to receptionist everytime on when I came in last to make appointment, I've been in lately is uncomfortable, like I am a burden to the staff. Like, "oh she's here for her shot, she is here to early when the last two shots were every 2 weeks. I am so dissatisfied with the staff. Dr. O is awesome just not her staff. I think I need to find a office that doesn't make you uncomfortable. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. O for about 5 years and she is incredibly thorough with her diagnosis and treatment plans. I suffered from chronic allergies and now, with her guidance, my allergies are well under control. Dr. Ostrachova was great. Her assistant Erica was great. However, when trying to follow up on our son's test results, they get a negative seven. They told me to set up tele medicine. I spent hours on the phone trying to set it up, and the system would not work, with hours of help from HMSA staff. When it came for our actual telemedicine appointment, I asked if I could speak with the Dr. On the phone at our scheduled appointment time. The woman answering the phone didn't want to hear me and I finally had to hang up on her in frustration because I couldn't finish a sentence because she kept talking over for me. read more

My children are patients and we've had a pleasant experience. We've seen both Dr. O and Dr. Shah. A concern I would have is that we've had our New Patient appointment scheduled for months, and under my impression we were supposed to see Dr. O. But in walks in Dr. Shah, and there was no mention of a doctor change. Luckily I didn't mind because I knew coming to the appointment was just a formality referral from my children's pediatrician and I didn't expect any new information. Dr. Shah, however, was so thorough and informative that if ever we needed expanded treatment I'd definitely want to be seen by her. The assistant is warm and welcoming. The service at all was unprofessional. Came in a little late, and all I got was attitude, and gossips. Didn't even care to give me a pen to write, they don't even smile, I didn't even feel safe in here. The ladies that are on the front desk and the lady taking my weight are very rude. And it wasn't even busy. Just because it's not retail or anything that doesn't mean you don't give the best service. These people are supposed to make patients feel safe and feel good. Like my other doctors employees are very nice. But no they're the opposite. It's not even worth coming in here, all they did is ask questions for a few mins and left. My daughter is a patient of Dr. Ostroukhova and after diagnosing her with the type of allergens she was allergic to, I am happy to say that my daughters household allergies are now under control. The entire staff at Aloha Allergy made her feel so comfortable and although my daughter has a slight fear of visiting physician offices, Dr. Ostroukhova and her staff immediately put her at ease.
