This is the second time I have done business with Aloha Junk Man, and I must say, both times have been an awesome experience. In regards to my most recent haul, I'm going to have to start by mentioning George on how he was able to fit me in the schedule on such short notice (24 hours). He was also very nice and understanding over the phone. The day of the appointment, Mark called me about 10 minutes prior to my set appointment to let me know their status on a prior job and an ETA of when they would arrive. Mark and Kody were finishing up a job and had to drop off their haul first before meeting with me. About ten minutes out, Mark sent me a text letting me know they were on the way. Over the phone the representative was very professional and nice. Explained things thoroughly when I asked few questions. They're quite busy, so they were a little late, so don't make a very tight schedule. I called to double check if I'm on the schedule, they were nice and offered to call the driver for ETA. Wasn't in a rush, so told them don't need to bother the driver. Luke (I think that was his name) was very nice and cool, he got things done fast. Do have your junk organized and ready to go. when they came to pick up my mattress, it was only Luke. Might wanna let them know over the phone your load size precisely. They pretty much take any card, cash or check. Have your card handy (if paying in card) and know your zipcode registered on your card because after they load the truck, they can process it over their work phone. Queen size bed was about $200 total with tax. You may find cheaper service but I rather get a good friendly service and least amount of hassle than saving few bucks for crappy service. We just retired and our eight room Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) office had to be dismantled and emptied out by August 31, 2023. Every room had floor to ceiling custom built cabinets which had to be removed, as well as exam chairs, all kinds of diagnostic equipment, and most challenging a sound proof audio booth weighing over 2,000 lbs. Starting up a practice is one thing, but to disassemble it 45 years later is another story. After much research and agonizing over what to do, we found the "Aloha Junk Man." According to their website there is nothing that they can't take apart, take away or discard. They will also donate and/or recycle whatever they can. After you call them they come out and give an estimate. Then you schedule an appt with them. They are reliable, punctual and fair priced. The day of reckoning, the "awesome five" showed up. They started working 8:30 a.m. and worked until 5:00 p.m. until everything was cleared out. They barely stopped for lunch. As a team, they work together like clock work. It helps that they are very pleasant and actually enjoy demolishing and hauling stuff away. The best part was watching them brainstorm, analyze and figure out as a team how they were going to take apart the monstrous sized, heavy duty audio booth. Step by step, inch by inch they hammered, banged, pulled until the heavy pieces could be safely separated. The boys never gave up although at one point I was worried that they weren't going to be able to dismantle it. Just adding my 5 star review to the many listed on Yelp. I first spoke to Myra about getting an estimate. She was very helpful, patient and even responded quickly by texts to many questions I had after my call. On the day of the appointment, I got a call that they were running a little behind schedule. I didn't mind as it was still within the two hour time frame scheduled. But it was still nice to get a heads up call. I also got a courtesy call from Matt that they were on their way. This was my first time getting an estimate and then deciding on the spot whether to accept the quote. Given the space constraints, I accepted the higher than expected quote and after they were finished loading, the price came down dramatically. Matt explained that the haul was concrete and thinset and the price was factored differently than regular junk and the higher quote meant that there were no surprises at the end about a higher price after the materials were loaded in the truck. Matt and his partner (Sorry, I forgot your name) worked quickly and cleaned up after. I recently had junk removal from another company that I hired before and was disappointed. A realtor recommended Aloha Junk Man to assist with a cleanout of 50+ years of stuff at mom's house prior to selling. 5 stars for the junk removal - highly recommended if this is all you need. The guys showed up on time, were professional and polite, worked really hard, and got the job done. I had a few areas marked to 'not touch' - everyone was aware and respected this. Terrific. Zero stars for the rest. During the initial site visit / evaluation, Luke offered to handle the donation items for us in addition to the junk. He said they partner with several entities and would load their trucks strategically depending on where things were to go. This was perfect for our needs - except it didn't happen. In preparation for the big day, I bought four bundles of U-Haul boxes and spent weeks separating donation items from junk. Clothes are bagged, boxes are labeled 'DONATION' - plus 'kitchen', 'collectable', 'linens', etc. Everything was nicely stacked in a separate bedroom with a note taped to the door stating DONATION STUFF. The day is going well until I noticed the donation items just being tossed onto the burnable load. When I called out the crew they were confused and responded "Oh - well I guess we could try take it to Salvation Army?". This didn't happen either as it was a rainy day and we were told later the boxes got wet and weren't accepted by SA. Luke wasn't available on cleanout day which explains (but does not excuse) the lack of communication; but the crew gave the impression that handling donations isn't really a thing for them. Hint - it should be. Basically we were charged to haul a load that charities would have picked up for free; I wasted countless hours of boxing and sorting stuff to just watch it get trashed; and several charities missed out on contents of a 4-bedroom house. read more
