This is a great Peruvian restaurant not too far from Albany, NY. Very convenient to stop by if you come to the outlets. The food is the best Peruvian you can get in the area close by. This restaurant is a hidden gem in the Berkshires! Delicious, flavorful, fresh and filling food. The original mojito was bright and refreshing, and had a nice kick. The seafood ceviche was delicious, simple and well balanced. Lobster roll was cooked perfectly, the lobster wasn't chewy at all, and it was seasoned perfectly. Our server, Mirabella, was wonderful. You've never had such delicious food. We're on our way from Boulder, CO to Vermont, and having been to Alpamayo once before (last summer) we literally headed straight there when we stopped for the night before our last little push. I don't even like white fish, though I love most others. I love ceviche. Here, I actually enjoy the ceviche pescado more than mixto - even fresh shrimp couldn't improve their basic marinade. Not the most world-traveled, but honestly, have you ever had this enormous Peruvian corn?? Each kernel is its own freshly made tortilla chip. Pretty good portions for both. My only concern were the wings were a bit too salty and saucy but the meat well cooked and tender. Part of my family is from Peru so when we found that Peruvian Restaurant had opened downtown Lee, MA; near our summer home we were ecstatic! We first visited Alpamayo Restaurant soon after its inauguration and have been loyal customers ever since. The place is homey and friendly; it is run by a Peruvian couple; the wife serves as the hostess and the chef is the husband. I do not know whether it is the location or the clientele but I have found that ethnic restaurants in Lee like other small towns have a hard time delivering dishes that would please everyone and at the same time keep their authenticity. The Peruvian dishes here represent however they sometimes struggle to remain true to flavor. Among the dishes we often enjoy here as appetizers are the Ceviche Mixto- adequate but could benefit with more citrusy notes and slightly more spices, (we usually correct at table). Oh! Sometimes the Chullpi corn is missing! Papa a la Huancaina dish is one of the best I have tried however it does not beat my mom's! Cooked pieces of potatoes covered in a creamy yellow pepper sauce accompanied by black olives and boiled eggs pieces, superb! Choclo con queso and Salchipapas are "street food" gone gourmet! My kids especially enjoyed these dishes! As entrees, various plates worth mentioning are the Roast Chicken, has always been a consistent repeat however I warn you it comes served with salad and French fries instead of the customary rice and beans; any "Salteado" is good and also the Chauflas! To drink they also have ethnic soda pops and a great Chicha Morada, (a South American drink made from purple corn). We were in town for my son hockey camp and wanted to try something different. Since we never had Peruvian food we give it a go. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. We ordered shrimp ceviche, seafood soup, fried fish and shrimp paella. Also a Peruvian beer to wash it all done. Sorely disappointed for the second time. Ordered arroz con mariscos for $19. They claim it is paella, the famous Spanish dish but it is not. Tasteless rice with one (1!) shrimp, one small clam and four mussels, one of which was not open. Scattered in the rice were a few pieces of diced squid. Bland, boring, expensive. They seems to have added lots of fried food to the menu, none of which are Peruvian. Last time here (Nov 2019) I had ceviche. It was a poor imitation of the rich and flavorful dish well known in Peru and Ecuador. Cost cutting? Sad. Fix this or close down, people! Limited outdoor seating is available for CV19. You might pass this place because of it's subtle presence but you MUST give it a try-- you'll keep coming back. We gave it a try when we decided not to wait in a long line a couple of doors down. Best decision we ever made. You will find authentic Peruvian dishes and everything is delicious! The ambiance is quiet and subdued, staff is friendly and service is simple (only 1 server) and on the slow side. We've enjoyed the fish soup, the Lomo Saltado (steak), Shrimp in creamy Amarillo sauce (a little spicy) and kids fries with chicken tenders. Now we come here every time we visit the Berkshires. We like Peruvian food and have been to 6 or 7 other eateries specializing in this cuisine. While walking down the street in Lee, Massachusetts recently, we stumbled upon the Alpamayo Restaurant and decided to give it a try. The place is clean, reasonably priced and has a nice menu filled with Ceveche, Causa Rellena, Rotisserie Chicken and other Peruvian staples. Shortly after we sat down, a gentleman we didn't know finished his dinner, paid his bill, stopped at our table and said "tonight's scallop special was the best seafood meal on the planet." We both smiled, thanked him for his comments and then he left. We did end up ordering that Scallop special which was three huge pan fried sea scallops plus the Pescado en salsa Camarones, a lightly fried white fish filet covered with shrimp and a pinkish orange colored hollandaise sauce gently flavored with Peruvian pepper. The sauce had a very mild and delicate taste that really did complement the fish. The rice served as a perfect delivery vehicle for the remaining sauce. We ate every bit of each and these were without a doubt two of the tastiest fish dinners we ever had anyplace and every bit as wonderful as the gentleman had described. read more
