I think they worked out the new Ownership hurdles and the quality is back! I've gone enough that the owner? hostess knows me well- or maybe I'm one of a few Chinese customers that they have? (She asked HOW do I know how to eat Pupusas? I said Queens, NY! & my Guatemalan college best friend!) Definitely get the cheese & Loroco herb Pupusa (with salsa & curtido slaw on top). I've enjoyed the fish one- never had a fish Pupusa before. The pork Pupusas now have chopped up pork/chicharron inside & not that pork-flavor blended pork/cheese version, that I'm not a fan of. AND definitely get a Horchata. One time in the middle of Summer on my pick-up, I grabbed the top of the cup, it caved it, the top flipped off and bottom & drink fell all over the floor. The hostess went to get me a new cup, only for that to have a little hole & Horchata streaming out of the side of the second cup. Guess it was just not the day for Horchata. The Pupusas (two) are meals in of themselves, but my Go-To entree is still the Chinese-Peruvian dish "Lomo Salteado." Tried the chicken recently & they were nicely grilled juicy pieces mixed with fresh cut fries & tomato. (basically it's a lightly stir-fried dish) Beef is still tasty also, White Rice & STEW Beans! The Maracuya (passion fruit) Agua Fresca is tasty also. A mix of tart and pineapple. The hostess recommended this & Horchata as favorites. Their current website says that they're only open for Takeout, but I had a lunch meeting there recently & they were open for Dine-in. I don't think they have the Weekend Buffets anymore. I think this is THE only restaurant serving these special dishes in the area- with great flavor. Definitely try it! You will be hooked!

Delicious food. Kind & generous service. Not in a great part of town, but seemingly authentic & wonderful food

This is definitely my new favorite place!!! Last week o picked up some lunch to go- a corn tamale and chicken burrito. First I noticed how big the portions were! The burrito came with rice and beans, which took me two days to finish! The tamale was also rather big- I ended up splitting it with my husband. The food was fresh and delicious. So much flavor in everything! You could tell all the ingredients were homemade and made with care. The rice was especially good- I get nervous rice will be dry, but this was moist, fluffy and still popping with taste! I enjoyed it so much I went back the following week. This time I got a pork and cheese pupusa and chicken tacos. Again, everything was fresh and sooo good! The pupusa might be my new go-to! As for the tacos, they're a little messy but in the absolute best way. To be honest, I'm not sure I have a favorite entree cause they were both phenomenal! I can't wait to try more things, I have no doubt they will all be worth it. Basically, the food here is incredibly good and worth trying! I highly suggest this place to anyone looking for something yummy!

I am so happy that I may very well eat myself into oblivion. There are not a lot of authentic ethnic restaurants in the area, much less ones that offer authentic regional cuisine. Sure we have a few Latin restaurants, but never would I have imagined there would be a Peruvian restaurant in Schenectady. Pupusas are here. They've got the trifecta: Cheese filled, bean & cheese filled, and pork & cheese filled. They've got Peruvian tamales, wrapped in a banana instead of the traditional Mexican cornhusk. They've got plantains served with cream. They have fried yuca. They have fried yuca that comes with fried pork, with generous amounts of unctuous pork fat. Don't be the ugly American and trim the fat, only to leave it uneaten on the side of the plate. I've been told by a trusted source, it's very good for the complexion. Plus they have regional beverages: Sodas, beers and purple corn based soft drinks. The prices are very reasonable. I don't think anything was over $12 and they have several items that are less than $3. The service is friendly and English speaking (although I was greeted in Spanish and very much appreciated it). The menu has loose English translations, but the hand written specials do not. It's a small place, probably fewer than 10 tables, and a counter that at one time used to be a bar. It's only open for lunch on Sunday. And when I went at 1 p.m. this past weekend, the place was busy, but I had no problem getting a seat. In all honesty, this isn't really a 5* Peruvian restaurant. The food is certainly solid, but probably between 3* and 4*. The bonus comes from a combination of value and authenticity, and the giddy excitement of finding pupusas in Schenectady.

The picture is kind of blurry but it looks like plastic glass from either the blender or something.

Went and had pupusas at the restaurant, took some to go. They were cooked well and tasted good until we found a piece of glass in one of them. Called the restaurant to let them know and they were not concerne. Marisol the lady I spoke said the cook that made the pupusas didn't see any glass so therefore doesn't know how glass got in my food.

Tamale and cream.

First of all, thanks Francesca C. for calling out on my order mumbling! ANYWAY, I was randomly hit with a pretty hard pupusa craving. I typed pupusa into the yelp search field really not expecting anything to come up but suprise! Daniel B's review popped up. (Thanks!) Unfortunately, it was in Schenectady. I do have a hatred of Schenectady which is kind of like my hatred of Jersey because every time I go to either of those places I get lost. I hate getting lost. However, I needed to visit Francesca in that place and they had pupusas so I decided to give it another chance. I'm so glad I did. While the place is not "nice" in anyway it reminded me of home. Small hole in the wall where the staff speaks little English and the food is bangin. Yup, I said bangin. The decorations look like they went to a restaurant store and bought the whole clearance section. The blinking race-car sign and the Italian chef framed pictures surrounded by paper cutouts of fish were a couple of my favorites but I wasn't here for the ambiance. The food is what's important and everything we ordered was delicious. Unlike F I rather enjoyed the cream and it played well off of the plantains and the tamale. Which tasted less like a traditional tamale and more like corn bread but either way it was yummy. While I was expecting bean and cheese pupusas, the cheese was great as well. I did bring two bean and cheese pupusas back for the boy and by two I mean one. (The bean and cheese was definitely better.) The salsa they bought out in a little Tupperware container DID taste store bought and the Louisiana hot sauce on our table was not reminiscent of restaurants at home but you can't win em all. After this experience, I shall be returning to Schenectady for this place and all of the other places that I've always wanted to try here. Oh, and I guess to visit my friend.

It's authentic homemade Latin American food! I'd love to eat here more often, though it means driving all the way from Troy to Schenectady :)

Good food, great little grocery. Prices are a bit high though. A single burrito and a horchata was 18$ + a 4$ tip on a Togo order.

We rolled in deep -- hungry, dramatic, and skeptical -- but Casa Real doesn't miss. Food's legit tradicional, not that frozen microwave vibe. Think real-deal molé, juicy al pastor, and rice that didn't come from a box with a cartoon sombrero on it. Drinks? También fuego. We brought the tacos over to The Other One brewery next door (which they allow) and had a fantastic date night. However the house made tortillas and other bread goods are so soft and flavorful. We'll be back.

We all really enjoyed our meals. Most of us ordered the three taco combo (any three tacos on the menu) and a side of rice and beans! While the tacos are very simple, they are quite tasty. The carnitas pork taco is really tasty, especially with the pickled onions! Yum!! The steak tacos had good flavor, but there was definitely grizzle to be found in them! The chicken was great! All of their tacos are served in a double soft corn taco, which helps them stay together through every bite! Overall, the tacos here are truly authentic, full of Mexican flavors, and perfect to cure any taco craving! Now, the only thing they need is a liquor license to serve some delicious margaritas to wash down the tacos!! . Service was okay. They forgot silverware, so we sat for a bit unable to eat our rice and beans (or add them to the tacos, which is what I do). They also forgot two side of rice and beans, brought one after a reminder, but the final one was never received! We all left full and happy, so that's great! We will definitely go back again! PS. They have a full menu, much more than just tacos!! **We were so hungry that I forgot to take pictures!

This stretch of…read moreSchenectady offers some diverse family-owned restaurants - Pakistani, El Salvadorian, Jamaican, etc., to name a few. In this case, the cuisine offered at Los Chamos is Venezuelan. Upon entering the establishment, I noticed a music/karaoke machine in the front corner. Tables were interspersed in the main area which surrounded a bar and ordering station. A preteen sat at one of the tables, playing on her phone. A young man worked the ordering station. Early on a Saturday afternoon, noticing a fridge with beers displayed, I ordered a Modelo and looked through the menu. I ordered a Chile Colorado and empanadas con pollo to go. Two things right off the bat - 1. First taste - It was good food. It was satisfying in a way that spoke of generational recipes rather than or despite culinary training. It is soul satisfying stuff. 2. If you can finish this meal in one sitting, good on you! Generous portions and the heartiness of the meal add to the "warmth" of the experience. A couple of details - the mayonnaise-based sauce for the empanadas was something I'd never tried before - lots of garlic, cilantro, a bit of water to loosen it, maybe some vinegar for acid...I liked it. The braised black beans had a little chili heat to liven it up. I'll definitely go back. I may not be fluent in Spanish or be knowledgeable about Venezuela but I find the food to be inviting and soulful.

You may…read morefind yourself meandering by on the State Street sidewalk, with tumbleweed of cigarette butts and trash blowing across your unsheathed feet, and pass by Los Chamos. It is indeed worth going inside for a delicious meal. Los Chamos' menu has a good selection that includes many traditional Venezuelan dishes: pabellón, arepas, cachapas, tequeños, empanadas. There is also an extremely disconcerting section of the menu devoted to seemingly-Mexican dishes. Perhaps that is to attract customers in an area with a smaller Venezuelan population and a small population of people who are familiar with Venezuelan cuisine. I don't know. But I also don't care. I was, of course, able to sample the pabellón criollo and the tequeños. Astoundingly, tequeños can be a good indicator of quality in Venezuelan restaurants in the US, and these ones pass the test. They also have moñongos, an item from Zulia (and it shows) that is effectively a thick tequeño with ham and plantain and meat as well. Healthy? Tasty. The venue has a decent amount of seating and the staff are friendly. They also sell a small selection of Venezuelan products, such as ovomaltina and Savoy chocolates. If you live in the area and have never tried Venezuelan food, now is your opportunity to do so. It's not spicy either, for those of you with weak stomachs. Overall, I would highly recommend Los Chamos. Hopefully their business succeeds.

There are other Mexican restaurants closer to Albany with some great vegan options and I would even say they are owned by the same parent company. Typically the reason we go to La Fiesta in Clifton Park is because we are meeting someone who isn't vegan and we're finding a place we can all find something on the menu. La Fiesta boasts several vegan options on the menu, they even have vegan cheese and seitan (meat substitute). Many places will just give you a bean and vegetable option and omit the cheese and sour cream but charge you the same price and call it vegan. The service is great, the waiter was very attentive. The one thing that caught me off guard was when I asked for hot sauce, he asked me bottled or house-made? I thought, house-made sounds like something I need to try and ordered it. He could have warned us it would be $2 extra, I still would have said yes but we were surprised to see it on the bill. I enjoyed my potato and spinach enchilada dish and my wife had a good amount of guacamole and chips before her Vegan Fajita Quesadilla arrived. The quesadilla was one large tortilla folded over in half and stuffed with peppers, onions, and mushrooms and what should be vegan cheese. She only ate a quarter wedge and a few bites of rice before she was full. As we felt fine driving home but I started to experience heartburn which since being on a plant-based diet for nearly 10 years only happens when I eat something non-vegan. My wife was sick during the night and throughout the entire following day. We are convinced there was some cross contamination in the food or worse, her quesadilla was made with real dairy cheese. This isn't the first time we haven't felt well leaving La Fiesta's Clifton Park location. Maybe it wasn't a fluke and there is room for improvement in kitchen practices to prevent cross contamination, maybe we just have bad luck. We can't keep going there if we're going to get sick everytime. If you don't have food allergies or sensitivities I'm sure you'll be fine. Otherwise La Fiesta really lives up to the name. Friday evening, the restaurant was packed, there were people waiting at the door, drinks were flowing, and the music fun.
