I think they worked out the new Ownership hurdles and the quality is back! I've gone enough that the owner? hostess knows me well- or maybe I'm one of a few Chinese customers that they have? (She asked HOW do I know how to eat Pupusas? I said Queens, NY! & my Guatemalan college best friend!) Definitely get the cheese & Loroco herb Pupusa (with salsa & curtido slaw on top). I've enjoyed the fish one- never had a fish Pupusa before. The pork Pupusas now have chopped up pork/chicharron inside & not that pork-flavor blended pork/cheese version, that I'm not a fan of. AND definitely get a Horchata. One time in the middle of Summer on my pick-up, I grabbed the top of the cup, it caved it, the top flipped off and bottom & drink fell all over the floor. The hostess went to get me a new cup, only for that to have a little hole & Horchata streaming out of the side of the second cup. Guess it was just not the day for Horchata. The Pupusas (two) are meals in of themselves, but my Go-To entree is still the Chinese-Peruvian dish "Lomo Salteado." Tried the chicken recently & they were nicely grilled juicy pieces mixed with fresh cut fries & tomato. (basically it's a lightly stir-fried dish) Beef is still tasty also, White Rice & STEW Beans! The Maracuya (passion fruit) Agua Fresca is tasty also. A mix of tart and pineapple. The hostess recommended this & Horchata as favorites. Their current website says that they're only open for Takeout, but I had a lunch meeting there recently & they were open for Dine-in. I don't think they have the Weekend Buffets anymore. I think this is THE only restaurant serving these special dishes in the area- with great flavor. Definitely try it! You will be hooked!

This is definitely my new favorite place!!! Last week o picked up some lunch to go- a corn tamale and chicken burrito. First I noticed how big the portions were! The burrito came with rice and beans, which took me two days to finish! The tamale was also rather big- I ended up splitting it with my husband. The food was fresh and delicious. So much flavor in everything! You could tell all the ingredients were homemade and made with care. The rice was especially good- I get nervous rice will be dry, but this was moist, fluffy and still popping with taste! I enjoyed it so much I went back the following week. This time I got a pork and cheese pupusa and chicken tacos. Again, everything was fresh and sooo good! The pupusa might be my new go-to! As for the tacos, they're a little messy but in the absolute best way. To be honest, I'm not sure I have a favorite entree cause they were both phenomenal! I can't wait to try more things, I have no doubt they will all be worth it. Basically, the food here is incredibly good and worth trying! I highly suggest this place to anyone looking for something yummy!

I am so happy that I may very well eat myself into oblivion. There are not a lot of authentic ethnic restaurants in the area, much less ones that offer authentic regional cuisine. Sure we have a few Latin restaurants, but never would I have imagined there would be a Peruvian restaurant in Schenectady. Pupusas are here. They've got the trifecta: Cheese filled, bean & cheese filled, and pork & cheese filled. They've got Peruvian tamales, wrapped in a banana instead of the traditional Mexican cornhusk. They've got plantains served with cream. They have fried yuca. They have fried yuca that comes with fried pork, with generous amounts of unctuous pork fat. Don't be the ugly American and trim the fat, only to leave it uneaten on the side of the plate. I've been told by a trusted source, it's very good for the complexion. Plus they have regional beverages: Sodas, beers and purple corn based soft drinks. The prices are very reasonable. I don't think anything was over $12 and they have several items that are less than $3. The service is friendly and English speaking (although I was greeted in Spanish and very much appreciated it). The menu has loose English translations, but the hand written specials do not. It's a small place, probably fewer than 10 tables, and a counter that at one time used to be a bar. It's only open for lunch on Sunday. And when I went at 1 p.m. this past weekend, the place was busy, but I had no problem getting a seat. In all honesty, this isn't really a 5* Peruvian restaurant. The food is certainly solid, but probably between 3* and 4*. The bonus comes from a combination of value and authenticity, and the giddy excitement of finding pupusas in Schenectady.

The picture is kind of blurry but it looks like plastic glass from either the blender or something.

Went and had pupusas at the restaurant, took some to go. They were cooked well and tasted good until we found a piece of glass in one of them. Called the restaurant to let them know and they were not concerne. Marisol the lady I spoke said the cook that made the pupusas didn't see any glass so therefore doesn't know how glass got in my food.

    Tamale and cream.

First of all, thanks Francesca C. for calling out on my order mumbling! ANYWAY, I was randomly hit with a pretty hard pupusa craving. I typed pupusa into the yelp search field really not expecting anything to come up but suprise! Daniel B's review popped up. (Thanks!) Unfortunately, it was in Schenectady. I do have a hatred of Schenectady which is kind of like my hatred of Jersey because every time I go to either of those places I get lost. I hate getting lost. However, I needed to visit Francesca in that place and they had pupusas so I decided to give it another chance. I'm so glad I did. While the place is not "nice" in anyway it reminded me of home. Small hole in the wall where the staff speaks little English and the food is bangin. Yup, I said bangin. The decorations look like they went to a restaurant store and bought the whole clearance section. The blinking race-car sign and the Italian chef framed pictures surrounded by paper cutouts of fish were a couple of my favorites but I wasn't here for the ambiance. The food is what's important and everything we ordered was delicious. Unlike F I rather enjoyed the cream and it played well off of the plantains and the tamale. Which tasted less like a traditional tamale and more like corn bread but either way it was yummy. While I was expecting bean and cheese pupusas, the cheese was great as well. I did bring two bean and cheese pupusas back for the boy and by two I mean one. (The bean and cheese was definitely better.) The salsa they bought out in a little Tupperware container DID taste store bought and the Louisiana hot sauce on our table was not reminiscent of restaurants at home but you can't win em all. After this experience, I shall be returning to Schenectady for this place and all of the other places that I've always wanted to try here. Oh, and I guess to visit my friend.

It's authentic homemade Latin American food! I'd love to eat here more often, though it means driving all the way from Troy to Schenectady :)

Good food, great little grocery. Prices are a bit high though. A single burrito and a horchata was 18$ + a 4$ tip on a Togo order.

The menu features all the different types of cuisine you would expect in a Peruvian restaurant: Peruvian/Hispanic, stir-fries, and pasta dishes. Fish also features very heavily on the menu, which of course means many ceviche options too. We started with roasted corn nuts brought to our table, followed by beverages of limeade and purple corn beverage which was mildly sweet with cinnamon added. Our entrees were fairly simple, a beef stir-fry with fried rice, and grilled chicken on french fries with rice and salad. These came out quickly. The portions were more than adequate, and my simple side salad was better than similar side salads I've gotten at fancier restaurants. Small bottles of yellow and red sauces are provided to spice up your meal: yellow for fairly spicy, and red for REALLY spicy. For me, the yellow sauce was perfect for my chicken and my rice. Meals here seem like dishes you would have visiting family and friends in Peru, and I would not be surprised if Mi Bandera already has a loyal set of customers they would consider family and friends.

We originally tried on Sunday but they were unexpectedly closed (the owner later told me they closed due to selling out of their daily inventory) so we came again today. Immediately we could see the menu was very inclusive with vegetarian gluten free and vegan options. The menu was very reasonably priced as well, with an assortment of dishes. When we walked up the owner, a very sweet woman named Veronica greeted us and helped us with their menu. We chose after her suggestions 2 Chicken Sofrito, 2 Chorizo, and 2 Colombianitas. My wife got the 2 Chicken, I got the 2 Chorizo and we split the Colombianitas. The dough was so perfectly fried in all my empanadas and chicken and potato filling was seasoned perfectly. The chorizo had a great flavor and texture and the cheese was nicely melted. Each empanada came with sauces as well. I had gotten the spicy pico, cilantro avocado, and chimichurri. The spicy pico had nice chunks of onion and tomato, and the cilantro avocado was subtle and tangy. The chimichurri was very well balanced as well. Veronica especially was so nice after as well, so wonderfully passionate about the food they make. When I mentioned that it was a special day for us, she kindly gave us a very sweet gift. Can't wait to come back and try and enjoy many more of their dishes in the future!

Absolutely Outstanding Colombian Food!…read more Hands down, some of the best Colombian food we've ever had! The restaurant is small but absolutely beautiful, with a warm, inviting atmosphere. And the music was amazing, it really added to the experience and made us feel like we were transported to Colombia. From the moment we arrived, John Eduard, the owner, and Valentina, our waitress, were absolutely fantastic, warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making sure we had a great experience. I enjoyed the Bandeja Paisa and asked if they could substitute the flank steak for skirt steak. Even though it's not on the menu, they made it happen and it was absolutely delicious! My husband and son had the La Tabla Mixta for Two, and the meat was incredibly tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. And the desserts were to die for! Every bite was better than the last. Yes, the food was delicious and plentiful, but connecting with Yelpers was one of the biggest highlights of that event. So, I know it's taken us long enough to come back but it was truly better late than never because they did not disappoint. It was within an hour of closing but the place was buzzing both with folks dining in and a constant stream of orders from online and in store. We settled on their brisket sando and three sides - pit beans, mac & cheese, potato salad. The brisket was tender and juicy, potato salad wholesome and egg-y, pit beans sweet and spicy, and m&c mac & cheesy. While they don't have French fries, they have homemade kettle chips which I'm generally not enthused about but the ones here had a softer finish and I rather enjoyed them. Oh, and an honourable mention is due to the comfy chairs which are extremely hard to come by in restaurants. One minor (but non-negligible) gripe was the rather long wait before we could place our orders because the staff right in front of us insisted on packing a big online order AND serving the folks picking them up drinks before we could put our orders in. I personally would have taken the order of someone in line especially since there was no one behind us, so that the kitchen staff can start filling our orders while the staff at the register can return to finishing packing the pickup order. We'll go back. It's cool to see a local family business going strong after two years, and I feel like whoever is behind the venture managed to create something extra ordinary.

I had the brisket, the pulled pork, the baked beans, and the mac & cheese. The brisket was perfect and served with sauce on the side. Lots of great spices, tons of flavorful smoke, not too mushy, not too fatty. - The beans were phenomenal with tons of flavorful pork bits inside. I wish I could make them that good at home, but I don't access to the BBQ scraps that they have. The mac and cheese was dense and creamy, and the pasta was not at all overcooked. I really appreciated this. The Bad: - seating is limited, and it is quite likely during a busy time you will get your food before a table is open. Why do they limit the number of tables they have when there is space for more? That doesn't make sense. - the pulled pork was just meh. It tasted flat, the texture was pure mush, and the color was a bit odd. Frankly, I make it better at home. This reminded me of crockpot pulled pork with a bit more smoke flavor. It too was served sauce on the side. - when our food was served it was covered with complimentary red pickled onions. Yuck! Apparently they sometimes ask in advance but they might forget when busy. Thankfully, since they didn't ask and made the wrong assumption they were willing to remake my plate without onions. - no cheap drinks. No cheap anything really. Imported soda, exotic Fiji brand water, etc. Their prices are very high for some things. They make great food, but you might get hit with $25/person or more before the smoke settles. Was it worth it? For some stuff yes, and for other things no. We had a good time, and I know better what to focus my order on in the future. But to go at dinner time when there might not be a table to enjoy your food is a real bummer.
