Of course what drew me in here was a Groupon deal. The one I had was $39 worth for a cut/style, color and deep conditioning treatment. Pretty awesome deal if you ask me! Normally a cut alone amounts to that much. The stylist I had was Diane, luckily for me, she was able to take me in almost 2 hours in advance of my appointment. Let's talk atmosphere, there's something about Alpha Salon that doesn't give you that snooty vibe a lot of salons can offset, or maybe, at least the ones I've been to. Although Alpha Salon isn't your ordinary snooty salon, their cuts are definitely those you would find at high-end salons which is what I love! It helps a lot that my stylist was really knowledgeable about hair, offering me lots of different tips on how to style and care for my hair. I came to the salon with a couple different things in mind, not exactly sure with what exact style to choose from, of course I sought her opinion on which styles would accommodate my features. While my color was processing, she let me peek through the hair magazines and pick and choose what style stood out to me the best. Being the indecisive person I am, there were a few styles that did stand out. In the end, her cut she gave me embodied all the styles I was drawn to. I never really had one of those moments where I "loved" a cut a stylist gave me, I can honestly say I left the salon having experienced one of those moments. I would hands-down go back to Diane as my regular stylist, she knows her stuff and with her personality I'd feel comfortable doing so as well. So another plus of the day was my purchase of beauty products. Of course, with a new cut you need new tools to go along with it! Come to find out, Alpha carries an exclusive line of products they develop themselves. The products I bought that day were 25% off along with their buy 2, get 1 free promotion. I came across Alpha Beauty Salon courtesy of groupon. Up until then I had been hairdresser hopping. Never really found a hair stylist who fit with me. Then came Heidi. She is great. She listens to me and knows what I will be happy with. It can't be easy for a stylist to have someone come in and say, do what you want, but she always does the right thing. The salon itself is clean and contemporary. It is busy but I never have to wait, and the staff is very accommodating with schedules. I had a great experience at Alpha Salon, I cannot say enough wonderful things about my stylist Justin. I was able to book an appointment, same day (unheard of, I know) and had a great consultation. Justin really took the time to understand what I was looking for in a cut and color. The salon was clean and inviting and all of the staff were incredibly friendly. I first heard of the salon based on a Groupon deal, but since the color treatment I wanted was not covered by the coupon Justin was able to offer me 25% my services for the day! My color and highlights turned out perfectly and Justin also took the time to cut, style and curl my hair exactly as I wanted. I was looking for a new salon to call home. I'd seen several Groupons for salons but sometimes those scare me.... I can't help but wonder of they are slow on business for a good reason and doing anything they can to get more clients. That is definitely not the case at Alpha. The Groupon was great but I was also referred by one of Heidi's current clients. I'm grateful! I left with a beautiful hair color and highlights and the cut I was seeking. This salon was great! So pretty and comfortable inside! I finally received the hair color and cut I've been asking others for for years AND it cost me less than what other gave been charging me. Avoid this place like the plague. I walked in 10 minutes before my appointment and waited for my stylist to finish touching up another stylist's nails. This was my first time in the salon - my stylist did not welcome me or offer me anything to drink. She brought me back to the sink to wash my hair and my neck was at an awkward angle; the water was cold and her ring kept getting caught in my hair. I had to remind her that I was also there for a brow wax which she did after having to rummage around in order to find the proper utensils. Back at her station I told her that I wanted a stacked, chin length bob. She never used clips to separate my hair - she just grabbed hanks of it and cut at random. Her ring continued to get caught in my hair and she kept raking the comb over my ears. She did not even try to engage in any kind of small talk. She didn't check in between cuts to see if the sides of my hair were the same length. Once she had gone beyond the point of return she asked me what I thought. I told her that it looked like one side was shorter than the other - she said well you wanted it at your chin and it is. I told her that both sides were not even - she then flopped one side of my hair forward to make it look even. She aggressively blow dried my hair even though it is fine and thin - she pulled some of it out again with her clover ring that she wouldn't take off. Her phone also kept blowing up with texts and calls. She did take it out in between blow drying it to look at the screen and silence it. She never offered to let me see the back of my haircut so I had no idea what she had done; normally when it is this short the stylist shaves the back of my neck but this one just left the back of my head hacked. If she had shown it to me I probably would have started crying in the salon. I haven't had a haircut this bad since my mom cut gum out of my hair when I was 8 years old. Unfortunately the blunt Romulan cut she gave me on my right side will have to grow out before I can have someone confident fix it. I was dumb enough to leave a tip because I didn't think it would be that awful once I got home. read more

I love this salon. I have been going to Lisa for over three years. I was a client of hers before she opened her own salon. She helped me rehab my hair after my previous stylist over highlighted and killed my hair. Last year she opened early the day after a holiday for my bridal party to get styled. I recommend this salon to everyone. Each stylist is creative, helpful and knowledgeable. They offer keratin treatments, which for my course, thick and wavy hair is necessary every six months. Justin did a great job with my blowout, which I bought with Groupon. I have long, thick, naturally curly hair but I like it straight and smooth with body and some flips at the ends. He did just that with only using brushes and no flat iron - amazing!! He also used a product that is only used and sold there called AlphaSmooth. It was amazing. I want to go back to purchase it for my own use. I usually use three different Paul Mitchell products for smoothing and to help control frizz but they don't work as well as this one product that Justin used. I asked and was disappointed that they would not let me purchase and use another Groupon for a different service (cut, color, highlights, etc.). I have asked other spas and salons in the past and they have always said "yes" or even offer to give me the same price again if I go back without a Groupon. The prices are higher than my usual salon and it is not close to where I live, so I will probably not go back, accept to purchase the AlphaSmooth product. read more

My co worker/friend referred me to Diane who is her stylist. They were running a great groupon deal for a cut, color, and deep conditioning for $39. I had been searching for a regular hair stylist for a few years since my former stylist moved to Newport and no one I tried made the cut (pun not intended). That all changed the first day I walked into Alpha. Diane does a wonderful job and is so knowledgeable. I wanted a short cut and color and she customized it for me. She incorporated elements of the style I had photo of but made a couple of changes to make it look amazing for my hair type. I respect her honesty to make me look the best I can. Diane is a connoisseur of hair/beauty questions whether it's products, styling my hair at home, etc she is my go to for advice. She also runs awesome specials and even calls me personally to let me know about them. Now that's service! I also love the vibe of the salon itself the staff is professional and friendly. The atmosphere is down to earth and high end at the same time which is difficult to achieve. I am glad to find a new regular hair stylist and Alpha is now my hair home.
