This is a follow up to my previous review from 2012. I am really concerned about the bad review given to Alpha DOg. Candy, the owner, is gracious, but is also very, very busy (which is good!). Entering her business is not frightening at all - she always has decorations up and it always smells good walking downstairs. Yes, her business is in her basement, but it is professional looking and she is always so sweet with my husky, who loves getting groomed there. I've been taking my Phoebe to Candy for over two years now and have never, ever had a problem. I still say she is better than Petco and most other local groomers, but that is just my own personal opinion. Give her a try, I don't think you will be disappointed. I brought our Border Collie here when we first moved to the area. She did a relatively good job with the grooming. The facility is in the basement of her house. It has a hodgepodge of "finishing" that she clearly did herself. It's frightening to enter alone. My dog wouldn't hurt a fly so I was tempted to leave rather than walk down the isles of walls made out of Japanese style folding screens and other pieces of furniture she appears to have found and stacked next to one another to make "walls" until I found my way through the "isles", down the stairs, and into the basement where she was waiting. However, the facility is not my biggest gripe. My reason for writing this review is her idea of Customer Service and positive Public Relations. Her website recommends emailing her for an appointment.. so that is what I did the next time we needed an appointment (4 months later). She offered me a date a few weeks later, and I reply within 48 hours that the date works for us. Here is her reply to my acceptance: I have only a handful of appts left in Dec now, I will need to reserve those for my regular clients. Katherine at Green Dog does an excellent job. First of all, she had already offered me the appointment, and then she took it away? Who has ever heard of a respectable business owner doing that? Second of all, she is saving her appointments for her "regular clients"? I planned on bringing this dog to her every time the dog needed grooming for the rest of her life. The dog is a Border Collie, she does not need to be groomed professionally frequently ... 4 times a year is more than sufficient. I would consider myself a "regular client"! I have a lot of dogs in my life... ones I dog-sit for, ones I foster for rescues, plus my own. She just lost a lot of potential income due to her ignorance in how to run a business. read more

We have been bringing our bichon, Lucy, to Candy for 5 years. Our measure of how good a groomer is, is how the groomer interacts with the dogs, how clean the facility is, and how well is the dog groomed. Candy gets 5 stars all the way around! She sincerely loves her clients, the dogs! Have referred her to friends who also found her to be top notch. We winter in Florida......none of the groomers I have used come close to Candy. read more

Candy, owner of Alpha Grooming, has groomed all of my three dogs the last four years; each with a unique temperament, age & health status, and grooming needs. Candy clearly loves dogs and is an excellent groomer, attentive to individual needs. She is ALL ABOUT THE DOGS, her true "customers". Her caring persona and her small, quiet environment makes the grooming experience less stressful for my sensitive dogs. Her office is a meticulously clean, fresh space in her home's partial basement, which gets plenty of daylight from windows. The space is impressively professional, while also comfortingly personal & small scale. From the first step through an exterior door and proceeding along the clearly demarcated interior walkway to the well lit steps leading to her office door, I am always impressed with Candy's attention to every spotless detail. More important, I'm impressed with the quality of Candy's superior grooming combined with her unmatched kind, gentle nature. Her appointment calendar is booked well in advance--there is clearly a reason for that! You will find top notch grooming and sensitive care within a fresh, clean, homey facility at Alpha Grooming.
