I've recently moved to North Boulder and was looking for a new barber to make a regular thing, and I am very glad I landed at Alpine Barbers. The minute I walked in I was greeted by a smiling Bob, and we shook hands and I took a seat. As soon as I was seated a velociraptor burst through the glass sending shards everywhere while I took cover behind my freshly donned apron. Bob pulled a sword out of nowhere, and there we crouched while a battle of the ages took place. After roughly ten minutes of fierce human-reptilian battle, Bob vanquished the wretched creature and walked back to his chair. "My god, man, there's no way you could cut my hair after such an event!" I proclaimed, but alas, he insisted and so we began. Conversation was great, and the place reminded me of my old barber I used to go to as a kid. There is character, as well as animals, all over the walls of the place, and Bobs years of hair knowledge showed with every clip of the scissors. By the end, I was cemented in the knowledge that I would return here. I look forward to my hair growing back, so that I can return to this Boulder icon once more. Alpine has been in Boulder a very long time. It's a barber shop. You won't get a latte or a massage. However, you'll get a great haircut for a fair price. I've been coming here for a long time, and have been consistently happy with my haircuts. Jenny does a great job, and I usually wait for her chair to open up, but the other guys do good work as well. You don't need an appointment, and walk-ins usually are in a chair within 10 minutes, at the most. This place isn't fancy, but it's clean and friendly and has decent parking. read more

Nice friendly neighborhood barber. Easy in and out. Only takes cash, but Whole Foods can cashback and top off your wallet next door. As for the fool who gave this place a one star because they don't offer a hot shave, I totally agree. I went to McDonald's once and demanded tacos but they only gave me a hamburger and charged me FULL PRICE!!! So, I gave McDonald's one star and a bad review. Lots of reviews on Yelp for other old time barbershops in Boulder, but this one is an original. The space has been a barbershop for 50 years, check out the great floor tiles. I started going there 5-8 years ago when Rich moved over from Northside. He's done a great job of sprucing up the place to give it a great barbershop feel. It's all drop in and they usually have enough barbers to keep the line short. No cell phone policy is kind of amusing, I don't think they're going to turn the tide on cell phones but I do appreciate not having to hear other people's phone calls in the shop. Walked in on a saturday morning. This is a "classic" barbershop and my barber Rich was friendly. I was a first-time customer. He was willing to get to know what i like and was willing to trim up a couple areas that i wanted extra attention paid to. Very pleasant experience. I'll be going back every 3 weeks. read more

Just moved to Boulder and Alpine Barber was recommended to me on a listserve. Bob cut my hair today for the first time. In and out in less than 30 miniutes. Bob has been cutting hair for over 40 years and he is good. I have been spending almost twice as much going to a "stylist" and my wife told me I was crazy when I said I was going to give a barber a try. Bob may be called a barber but he cut my hair just as good as any stylist ever did. Thanks Bob! read more

This is the only "old-time" barbershop that I know of that DOES NOT offer a hot foam shave. I went in to get my head buzzed and beard trimmed up an neatened. I was helped by Maria who flat out told me they don't do shaves but she could neaten me up with an electric razor. I should have just walked out the door but was on a time constraint so just went with it. So charged me full price for a hair cut and beard trim even though she just buzzed it using the shortest setting. Ironically she did use a straight razor to clean up my neck. When I got home I noticed all sorts of spots she missed. I could have done a better job at home after 4 martinis. I am not saying don't go here but avoid Maria. read more

Really enjoyed my visit here. I was a bit irked when I wasn't greeted when I walked in. But once I sat in the Barber's chair - Jenny hooked it up and was very friendly. Very old school style barber shop which I really liked. I'll be coming back. The price was really good compared to other barber shops in the area. Still not cheap for a fade, but let's face it - gone are the days of the $6 haircut. read more

Charlie and the gang at Alpine do a great job. The shop is clean and friendly and prices are reasonable for the Boulder area. This is your standard small-town barber shop with the same employees for years, and that is a good thing. Kids get treated great here. There are only a few glimpses of what Boulder used to be when it was a great place to live, and this is one of them. Get your hair cut here before hey are gone and replaced by a ubiquitous chain or God forbid yet another "hip" Boulder coffee shop. read more

Usually get good cut from Maria. This time got the owner, a rude and dismissive older gentleman who didn't give me the haircut I wanted, instead he spent about two minutes trimming the sides without touching the top. Also, he has stopped taking credit cards so to save him a 1% credit card fee I had to pay a 3$ atm fee. Will not go back. read more
