I was told a few dogs attacked my dog while he was here, after I got him home and found gashes all over my dog ... after I had washed the mud off him, there were gashes all over him....... Well well, that's nice to know........what really bummed me out is that Alpine Dog Ranch tried to hide this from me. I have two big "Hunting" style dogs.. one a German Short Haired Pointer and 110 lb American Labrador... Lots of running going on around here... lots of water, lots and lots of land... for these athletic types to play. My dogs are ran daily, so they didn't have any heat stroke issues that others have had here, a Rottweiler whom had a stroke here and cost the pet's owner 10k in vet bills ! Could you imagine, so just beware, this place is very hot! So make sure your dogs are ready for the challenge!!! I understand dogs will be dogs.... and dogs get into fights... but, the thing that just didn't settle well with me is the fact that the staff at Alpine Dog Ranch hid the fact that my dog was attacked, A FEW TIMES.... and I found out only until after I got home and washed the mud off him and found all the wounds.... I had confronted them and it was only until then, they coughed up the truth.... with my fur babies... honesty is the best policy, looks like this place is barking up the wrong tree... and it sure ain't the HONESTY TREE.....

Dog tired after so much playing!

Alpine Dog Ranch is the best choice for dog boarding in San Diego. We love that our furry family members get a vacation when they go. Cage free, the dogs spend all day romping around together on the property and then do a guided hike in the national forest. (Not in a warehouse or parking lot!) There is swimming, fetch and supervised socialization. This is important to us since we have Australian Cattle Dogs that have otherwise never actually gotten tired. We have been loyal customers since 2008. The Ranch has helped us with short stays (days), long stays (weeks), and helping us facilitate an animal shipment to the Midwest while we were overseas. It's important to note that driving there takes time- about 45 min from downtown San Diego. But that's the price of a spot next to the Cleveland National Forest. We credit The Ranch with the great behavior our dogs exhibit with others. We send all of our friends and would never take our dogs anywhere else.

    What are the rates?

They offer a very reasonable rate of $40 per night; however I have always also paid extra for dog training which has been very helpful. Thomas and his team are great. Please check if he is open as the Alpine Fire hit some of his fencing.

When I called to schedule an appointment for my mini Sheepadoodle, I was questioned about why it had been five months since her last visit. She is still a puppy, I prefer to keep her coat longer, and I regularly bathe and groom her myself. I also clearly stated that she was not matted. However, upon arrival, the groomer immediately began checking her over as if expecting to find matting. She did not I then explained that I wanted her to maintain a sheepdog look while having her coat shortened slightly for the warmer weather. When I picked up my dog, she had been completely shaved down and nothing like what I had asked for. Even more upsetting, she appeared frightened and anxious. I have never seen her react this way after a grooming appointment. She stayed glued to my side the entire evening, which is very unlike her. The groomer chose the quickest option without regard for my instructions or my dog's comfort. I expected professionalism and care, and unfortunately received neither.

When I made the appointment for my dog, the first thing she was concerned about was that my dog hadn't been there in 5 months!! Well I am shopping around for the best groomer as my dog just turned a year and I groom my dog daily!!! I assured her my dog was not matted. When I take my dog in, the grumpy groomers face drops and the first thing she does is feel all underneath my dog looking for mats!! she found none!! After my dog and I were so rudely greeted, I should have left! However, I explain what I want and it's not what I got. My dogs hair was completely SHAVED OFF!! Lazy groomer!! My two doodles will be going elsewhere. Just tell your costumers you will only shave doodles because it's easier for the grumpy, rude groomer!

We had a 7 day trip to Kauai during the thanksgiving week which tuned into 10 days due to plane delays. Matt and Alicia were there every day twice a day to take care our our precious dogs. They gave the dogs much needed attention, every morning and night. They fed them and made sure they were safe for the night. When we didn't come home as planned due to delays they were there to make sure the dogs were taken care. Alicia is very professional and took pictures daily updating me on my dogs well being. Matt played with them and my dogs just licked him and loved him. I was very pleased with Family Pet Sitting and I would highly recommend them. We don't go many places due to having the two dogs. I would definitely use their services again.

We were so fortunate to find this unique and amazing service. They are always prompt, professional and reliable. My dog had to undergo major surgery twice over the past 6 months and I was able to count on Alicia's veterinary experience to know how to properly care for her and aid in her recovery. They are a wonderful family of loving kind people who have lavished my pets with attention. They go above and beyond, bringing in packages from the porch, making special gifts for my pets and family. I can't say enough good things about them.

We found that our cat ate toothpaste- who knew that toothpaste is poisonous to cats?? The staff at Country Pet Hospital did EVERYTHING they could. I authorized my cat to be euthanized and 10 min later the doctor called me to say the cat was eating and wanted to give her a fighting chance - best to wait a couple days. The doctor saved my cat's life - he truly cared. After a couple days, doctor told me to take my cat home thinking she would eat more in her own environment- he was right. The staff called daily and then twice a week to check on my cat. I am very grateful and will never use any other vet. BTW - pricing was cheaper at County Pet Hospital vs the petco vet. Two month later , my cat is back to her shenanigans! THANK YOU COUNTRY PET HOSPITAL!!!

I live in Alpine and wanted to give the local vet a chance but each time I went they were awful. Their main objective is to scam you for more money and they don't care much for the animals. First, with my elderly dog, we had to put her down because she was suffering, and when we called they responded that they could not put her down because she had not been regularly visiting their clinic and that it's unacceptable that we had not stayed loyal and gone to them every time, even though she hadn't needed to visit a vet. Mind you, we had been boarding her there every year and they knew our dog well. This is also when we were already grieving and had to drive all the way to Santee for a new vet clinic that was awesome. Then with my cat, she had some issues with urinary tract infections because she was constantly outside and never drank much water even when we tried to force her to drink more. So the first time we took her to a different vet because we were already not happy with our vet and we were told what it was and given antibiotics. She got better even after almost dying and they were great. Then the next time, we gave the Alpine vet another chance, but they said they needed to run multiple tests on things that were not even an option for what she had, and they refused to believe us when we told them that she had had it before and just needs antibiotics. She almost died and we had to bring her back to the other vet that day. Lastly, we had a dog that had a nosebleed for a while and the Alpine vet told us they needed to run multiple tests that cost thousands of dollars, and when we were hesitant because we knew it wasn't many of the options they proposed they said he probably has a tumor and would die soon. My dog ended up being perfectly fine and had no tumor after we left with no tests. I also have another story that gets worse but overall we will never be going back and everyone we know in Alpine will be told the same every time.
