My rental property's central Air conditioner broke down last night and I was referred to this company by American Home shield (home owners insurance) and my experience was not pleasant. My only mistake was that I was sleeping at night time when Walter called @ 8:14pm on July 5th 2018. I called on July 6th 2018 and left VM twice (8:30am and 2:00pm) on his cell and business number to no avail. Then I contacted my home owners insurance at 5:00pm to file a complain, only to find out that they can't work on a specific kind of air conditioning unit so American home Shield had no choice but to switch contractors on me. I'm frustrated over the unprofessionalism and poor communication traits of this company. At what point someone was supposed to get in touch with me? Do they think I've a crystal ball? This company was sent out by our home warranty company to fix our central air unit which was not functioning properly. After receiving the quote from the company (which included replacing the entire unit!!) for the portions of service that were not covered by the warranty, which were in excess of $2,000, we decided to get a second opinion. Ultimately, the repair was done in minutes with a very inexpensive replacement part. It's nauseating to think this company would intentionally replace a functioning unit for their own profit. Very unethical. This company also fishes for 5 star yelp reviews in their proposals for discounted service in return... I have no doubt that the 5 star reviews you see here are results of people being ripped off, and given a measly discount for their 5 star review. read more

Alpine was assigned to me by our home warranty service (American Home Shield - total clown show of a company) for an issue related to our AC. Just setting up an appointment was painful. The home warranty service contacted the Alpine after I initiated the request. Instead of getting back to me on the same day, Alpine waits until the next day and leaves a message. I returned their call several times and left a message. I even called the home warranty company to see if they could reach them. No word from Alpine. Side note: What kind of business has a voice mail greeting that does not in any way, shape, or form identify the name of the company? Finally, two days after the initial request, Alpine calls again and I get to talk to a human (not a voice mail) to set up an appointment. During the conversation, Walter did not come across as engaged at all. He said they had an appointment slot open for Tuesday, but he couldn't be bothered to let me know what time they would be there until I pressed for the information. He did not ask about any symptoms related to the AC unit. Ultimately, I cancelled the appointment. Setting up an appointment should not take nearly 2 days and multiple phone calls. In the end, I was left with a very bad feeling about this company and decided it would be best not to use them. When it comes to things like HVAC repairs, where the customer knows little to nothing about the machinery being fixed, establishing trust is critical. Alpine failed in this respect right out of the gate. It should not take 2 days to talk to a person. Voice mail greetings should identify the company. All appointments should have time windows associated with them. A general description of the problem should be obtained during the first phone call. These are basic, and if they cannot do them well, how can I _trust_ them to handle the big stuff? read more

They were referred to me by my home warranty company (another shady enterprise) last Saturday. I had a massive water buildup under my central air unit and furnace. They came onsite, looked all over, then told me I was low on Freon and needed to buy 6.5 pounds of it at $65.00 a pound. He filled me up then told me the water should stop in a day or two as the ice melted from my coil. I called another company in today(Thursday) because I was still getting fresh water. The new company came out same day, and five minutes later had flushed out the blockage in my water drain line. Alpine ignored an obvious fix and instead suggested an expensive fix that couldn't possibly fix my problem. Now I have Freon I don't need. I will be calling my lawyer. Buyer Beware! read more

STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!! Either they are scammers or extremely incompetent. Came to my house via appliance Warranty Company as my furnace was blowing cold air when heat was ON. Gave appointment window of 11-5 but didn't bother calling me that running late. Called me after I called them couple of times around 5:30 that they will be there soon. Showed up around 7:30 with no apology of being late blaming the delay on traffic. Anyhow went to my Attic and opened the lid of the furnace and showed me 4 flashing lights concluding in 5 minutes that issue is cracked heat exchanger without checking any other thing. Told me a pre calculated amount of around $2000 labor / upgrade cost as furnace would be provided by the warranty company. BTW 4 flashing light in Trane = Open High Limit Device. There could be several reasons for this code not necessarily just a bad heat exchanger. They didn't bother checking anything else. They did the exact same diagnostic a year ago for my basement furnace which I replaced on their advice. I should have taken the 2nd opinion at that time as well. I became suspicious when they made same diagnostics again without checking anything besides LED flashing lights. Left asking me to print my name one a blank service quality survey! Pathetic! I called my friend who works for Sears over the weekend who spent an hour testing each and everything and found out that there is bad connection from open limit device to the circuit board so the board needs to be replaced not the heat exchanger which was perfectly fine. He told me that there is no need to change the furnace. I called my warranty company again to send another HVAC company for 2nd opinion who also diagnosed the bad connection after thoroughly testing every component. They also fixed the connection as there was some dust / rust on the connection cable to the circuit board. They told me to run it for few days and if issue comes back, they will come and replace the circuit board next day without any out of pocket cost to me. They also told me that you heat exchanger is perfectly fine and there is no need to change the furnace. Since then, my furnace is working perfectly fine. My advice is to stay away from them even if you need to get service done through Warranty Company. All warranty companies can arrange for some other service providers on your request or for 2nd opinion. There are many honest, reliable and competent HVAC companies around the area. They know that you are coming through Warranty Company so they want to scam you!!!! read more

Come out to check out a problem with my heating system. The apprentice technician told me I had a cracked heat exchanger and my system must be shut down as it was dangerous. The tech than began looking for other items he could fix, including adding freon to my AC units. Thankfully I declined and waited for the company's estimate to replace the heat exchanger. They came in at almost $5,000! I was very uneasy with this company and decided to get a second opinion. It turns out I had a piece of paper(product spec sheet sticker) in the squirrel cage of my unit that was causing the noise. Thankfully I had got a second opinion and saved $5,000. Everything is working OK . Be careful! Note* The owner took the time to respond to this review. He should have taken the time to respond to the phone calls! His apprentice tech Never opened and examined the heating unit. The tech Never even noticed the problem in the squirrel cage as he never ever looked at it, let alone "discussed it with me". The unit has a built in shutoff if the heat exchanger was cracked and emitting carbon monoxide.(this was explained by the 2nd company after they thoroughly examined the unit) I'll give the Owner(Walter) the benefit of the doubt and assume he just had a bad tech working for him, and was getting totally inaccurate information. I used this company based on a referral from my home warranty company. At first I was a bit nervous about working with Alpine after seeing the few bad reviews. But they were super helpful. Walter was great and even came to our house after hours to make sure we could get our claim in before the holiday weekend. He also answered his cell phone every time I called. Although working with the warranty company is a bit more cumbersome the whole transaction went smooth. Alpine is used to working this way and told us up front the costs. read more

CUSTOMER BEWARE! Wow! Thank you to all reviewers who posted about the fraudulent Walter's habits. I honestly could have just copy and paste prior posts from Vince or Chris. My heater stopped working. I got Alpine from AHS - warranty company which customer service is a separate issue. Technician Walter came on time with a very polite call in advance. It took him literally under 60 seconds to diagnosed the problem - my heater has improperly sized exhaust pipe and that caused "heat exchanger to crack" by "chocking" it. Sounds familiar? Correct. The option were -$1900 for repair of exchanger, $ 3500 for new heater or $5500 for top of the line one. Only after impressing me with his broad experience he actually looked at the heater Error Code. Given that I had read Yelp reviews in advance I was prepare I promised to call in 24 hours. I was also promised 10% discount for a 5 star review. That was yesterday. The same day I called the contractor who had installed the unit 3 years ago. He came today found faulty pressure valve. Changed it for $200 and I have heat again. CUSTOMER BEWARE! read more

This company was also sent to me by the home warranty company. As the other poster stated the technician pulled the cover off the outside unit and said I had an ac leak and needed 8 pounds of refrigerant and would cost around $800 in addition to the warranty service fee. The unit is only 3 years old. I got a second opinion from a local HVAC tech the next day who said there is no leak and the unit is actually overcharged. Also, he showed me that the unit's recommended factory load is 5.7 pounds (which means I somehow had a negative amount of refrigerant per Alpine). I would love to think this was a misdiagnosis and not a way to make easy money off of the warranty company and the customers on top, as the warranty companies do not cover refrigerant. Lost my $100 service fee but at least I didn't throw away $800 for unneeded refrigerant. Be wary.. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They were assigned to me by my home warranty company to come out and fix my leaking oil burner. The technician arrived to diagnose the problem and advised they would fix it. More than two weeks later I still did not hear back from them, so I called to check the status. The technician told me they had the part that was needed (why did not call me to tell me this info??) and he scheduled an appointment for repair. On the scheduled day (they were supposed to be at my house at 8am) I called them at 9am to make sure they were coming since I took the day off from work. I was told that my problem was misdiagnosed and they can't and won't fix it. Why could they not tell me this beforehand? Why did I take a day off from work for nothing? I would not recommend this company to anyone. Look elsewhere! read more

This company was sent to me by the home warranty company. When the guy came out, he pulled the cover off the outside unit and said I had an ac leak. This end up costing me 600$. I specifically asked if he was going to fix the leak, he told me yes. Come to find out, the leaked was never fixed, they just charged the system with there being no filter and leaking lines.
