Before my friend was going to receive the facial, she was pressured multiple times by the esthetician that she could upgrade to the Pumpkin Peel Facial for an extra $80, to which she agreed to. All of this should have resulted in a $400 dollar charge and a 10% tip for a $440 charge. Somehow Serenity Spa ended up charging her $564.  After explaining the overcharges, the front desk receptionist assured me there were no overcharges. Then after looking further, after intense prompting, she admitted there was a $60 overcharge - she couldn't explain how she came to this number, which was still wrong. After insisting this was the only overcharge, the receptionist refused to address the remaining $60 overcharge and hung up the phone after accusing us of lying, which was incredibly unprofessional and irritating as my friend is an incredibly accomplished and pure hearted person. I'm not at all surprised at the litany of negative reviews about Serenity Spa and I would encourage everyone to steer clear of this place and their questionable, at best, transparency and billing practices.

I am a loyal client and I hate to have cheated on my hair stylist back home. But living 500+ miles away, what's a girl to do? My mom lived in Tahoe a few years ago and would get her hair done by Sarah. After moving here, my mom would tell me I should give her a try. After living here for over a year, I finally decided to give Sarah a call. When I called her, she was very professional and quoted me over the phone. I wanted to do something very different with my hair. Something I've never done before. I wanted bright red ombré hair. I was very nervous since I was going for a whole different look that I wasn't use to and especially going to a different hair stylist for the first time in 6 years! When I arrived for my appointment, she took me to her room and had a water bottle ready for me. Her room is so cute, and I love the privacy of it. The spa itself is very cozy and makes you feel at home. We discussed once more about what I wanted to do to my hair and she went straight to work. I thought it was very cute that she was just as excited as I was to do my hair. I have a lot of hair. My hair is long and thick, too. Half way coloring my hair after using a whole bottle, the color ran out! She told me that we can use a permanent red and see how it turns out. If I didn't like it for whatever reason, she will order my color and I can come back in two days and she can put the vivid red on. I was so nervous when she told me the color was out. I went ahead with the permanent red for the other half of my hair. Now for the outcome? It came out amazing! (See photo) I am totally in love with my hair! The red came out nice and bright, the permanent red was a little darker, but blended well with the bright red. She uses great products, which I absolutely loved! Even after all the bleaching done to my hair, it came out silky and shiny! Sarah is amazing at what she does and is very sweet and patient. She doesn't rush through her work, and makes sure of it that you are completely satisfied with your hair. She was such a pleasure to have working on my hair. So glad I found a hair stylist here in Tahoe to trust with my hair. I highly recommend Sarah for all your hair needs! Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my experience. As you can see in the picture, my pedicure was supposed to be Cinderella blue with chrome on top. I paid an additional $15 for the chrome, but I honestly don't see any chrome on my nails. I was also a little confused while watching the application because she used her rubber glove to apply it. From my experience, chrome is usually applied with a sponge or applicator. The pedicure itself was probably the quickest pedicure I've ever received. There was very little cleaning or attention to detail, and when I got home, I had to clean the sides and underneath my toenails myself. I had a different person do the builder-gel fill on my hands. While she was doing my nails, I honestly felt like she wasn't very experienced with builder gel. My nails have never been this thick before. I also accidentally bumped one of my nails while putting my hand into the UV light because I was getting my pedicure and fill done at the same time, which put me in an awkward position. I pointed out the spot to her, but she looked at it and told me it was fine. I didn't feel like arguing because I already felt uncomfortable after they were discussing the fact that I wasn't sure what color I wanted for my hands. She asked me to show her a picture of what I wanted, so I did. Then she told me she couldn't do it. I was confused about why she asked to see the picture if she wasn't able to recreate it, especially since the design was simply purple with glitter. Overall, I left feeling disappointed, especially for the amount of money I spent. I was expecting more attention to detail and better communication.

And this, in the end makes such a HUGE difference. I also own my own business and have a degree in Marketing and Business Management. Customer Service can make or break a business. So no matter how "good" the product is, if your customer service skills are lacking, you'll lose in the end. As Vince Lombardi said, "It takes months to find a customer, seconds to lose one." And in this day and age where so much is word of mouth, it can be a millisecond when treated badly. In this small town, bad customer service severely hurts businesses. I went in to see Candice the first time a few weeks ago and she was a little cold when I walked in. It was all business. Not much eye contact. I thought it was strange considering it was my first time in. She did an ok job. She seemed rushed. But I wanted to give her another shot for a different service. I had a family emergency a few weeks before with someone in the hospital with a stroke and so I cancelled with her a little over 48 hours in advance and rushed to the hospital in AZ. She said, "Ok" on a text; no "so sorry to hear that" or, "When would you like to reschedule?" ....It was just, "Ok". So I had to reach out to her to reschedule later. No biggie. I just rescheduled. I did think it was weird though. It was like she was doing ME a huge favor. But it was the second time that I came in that really started the ball rolling in negative impact. I came through the door and Candice was in the back and she was in a flurry of emotions. She had a family emergency and was shaking and crying a little. Which I get! She said she just wanted to get out of there to be with her son who may have had covid. I could totally empathize having just gone through an emergency. She said she could still do it, but was shaking and kept saying, "I have no time to numb you!". I told her that family comes first and to please just attend to her son and we could reschedule. I had cleared my whole day for this, but I totally understood. She handed me a container of lidocaine and told me to numb my own face 40 minutes before coming in next time...um...ok...I've never numbed myself but...ok...I just was worried for her and her son. Little did I know that from hearing from others, that she has a temper in general. We confirmed a time for me to reschedule by text and I put it in my phone. Only, I put it in as a half an hour later by accident. So, there I was on the morning of my appointment, numbing my own face (with no instruction from her on how to do this exactly), and I get a text with her saying that she would not take any clients 10 minutes late. Hmmm...I realized my mistake and called her to ask if I could still come in (it was 15 minutes past at that point). She was so angry and said she was "annoyed" at me and said that she "wished me luck" in finding a new provider and no goodbye. Wow. So it seems to me that she slams her clients in there back-to-back and has them do their own numbing. It seemed so strange to me at the time, but now I understand because she books her clients back-to-back and doesn't waste her time numbing clients and has them do it themselves. Word to the wise, do not get on her bad side. She has zero empathy for you. She just wants your business. Too bad. I really wanted to give her another try.

Their massages were excellent, and they were the only reason this review is getting 2 stars instead of 1. The gentleman who greeted us in the hotel lobby was also very kind. Unfortunately, everything else fell far below expectations. My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and originally hoped to book at Edgewood, but their spa was closed for renovations. We asked for a comparable experience and were referred here. At $170pp, we expected something relaxing and upscale. Our appointments were at 1:00pm, and the spa called the day before to let us know we could arrive early to enjoy the amenities. We arrived at 11:00am and were immediately met with an unfriendly attitude from the front desk. Instead of welcoming us, she seemed irritated that we had arrived early, even though the spa had invited us to do so. The "locker room" was another disappointment: 4 lockers inside what was essentially a bathroom. For a couples spa day, having to change and use the restroom in the same cramped space was awkward and far from the experience we expected. When we grabbed towels from the locker room to head to the pool, we were abruptly told we couldn't use them and had to go to the hotel front desk for separate pool towels and a pool key, while wearing spa robes. The pool area itself was also disappointing. The hot tub had dead flies and wasps floating in it, and the overall setting felt more like a hotel entry area than a peaceful spa retreat. We were told to return 10 min before our treatment, so we came back early. We were then informed our "steam room" was ready. In reality, it was a tiny steam shower with enough room for 1 person to sit...not exactly the couples amenity we had imagined. To top it off, the final price was higher than quoted. We booked at $170 per person but were charged $185 per person, plus a 20% gratuity. We were happy to tip our massage therapists, they earned it, but no one explained the additional charge. For $444 total, this experience felt extremely overpriced and underwhelming. If you're looking for a true spa day, I would strongly recommend booking elsewhere.
