WOW! After Catrece's scathing review, one would think Pine Valley Auto Repair (PVAR) is a rip off…read moreartist extraordinaire . . . nothing could be further from the truth. My last oil change at WalMart cost me approximately $69.00. I use Mobile One so the cost is generally higher than the less expensive brands and I don't know what Catrece uses so it would be unfair to compare prices . . . we may be comparing apples and oranges, I don't know. But oil is generally around $5.00 at quart anymore. It is unfortunate that Catrece"s experience wasn't better but the complaint seems unwarranted based on cost. Anyway, I've been an Alpine resident for over twenty-five years and owned a retail business on the 2400 Block of Alpine Blvd for approximately 8 years. I've also been a member of the local Chamber of Commerce. I was Service Manager of Dealer's Service Auto Body for years and for years I worked for Gulf and Wilshire gas stations. I owned a small car wash business in National City. So, I have some experience in the auto industry. Mechanics at PVAR have always been courteous and professional with me. I've had my motorhome, two trailers, and at least 3 different cars worked on by Joe (Jose) and J.C. His reputation is sterling. When I first moved to Alpine, I checked with two gas stations and the local auto parts store to see who they used for auto repairs . . . all said, "Pine Valley Auto." I said, no, I want someone local. It was then that I learned that Pine Valley Auto was in Alpine. My experience with PVAR has always been great. Only yesterday, I picked up Ford T-Bird and the cost of repairs was very reasonable. As far as the items in the creepy display goes . . . I love 'em! As far as I know, all those critters came from radiators, engine compartments, vents, under seats, etc.. People that had them removed were probably delighted. I sure wouldn't want that rattlesnake in my car! It also shows what our mechanics experience while working on our cars. They probably deserve 'hazardous duty pay' for the exposure . . . . Pine Valley Auto Repair . . . at least for 99% of the customers who use them, will use them again. I certainly will . . . .

Within minutes they had it up on the risers and Khris, along with another mechanic, were taking off the cover, straightening it out, and re-attaching it. They were all very pleasant to work with and courteous. When I asked how much I owed them they told me to just have a nice day! You sure don't find service like that anymore! The small town feel of Alpine is at Family Auto Service. Thank you very much for your kindness.

So, I went in there because they're the only shop that was open in Alpine, California. Bill the owner had advised me that to diagnose it alone is $115.00, then what ever the issue was.. they would go from there. About 45 minutes later, I was told that I needed to replace the glass window itself, it would have to be special order, and it would take a few days for it. First of all, I'm only in town for the weekend. How is that even possible, our resort will not valet it nor we can even park in the parking structure due to the window not closing... Just great! So, I spoke to the mechanic Chris, a very nice gentleman, who had explained everything in details. Also, he resolved this problem in the meantime. But, I would have to take care of it as soon as I get back home. I am forever GREATFUL for CHRIS, you are brought humanity back to my world. I thank you for your help. I will definitely return just because of him. He had made my day weekend! Chris you are the MAN of INTEGRITY!

I'm very happy with the work that's been done to my Jeep, and highly recommend this shop. If you're looking for reliable and trustworthy mechanics this is the place to go to! From start to finish they make sure that everything is explained to you in a way you can easily understand it. They send over pictures of what they recommend needs to be done in a detailed report, and let you know if something isn't necessary just yet. They also stand by their warranties, and never make you feel like an inconvenience. We all know what it's like to dread going to the mechanic, and I can definitely say it's the polar opposite going here. This is by far the most welcoming shop I've been to, and they truly care about their customers here. They really do go above and beyond, and I'm incredibly grateful for the work the team has done. Many thanks to the crew at John's Automotive Care in El Cajon!

Shame on these guys…read more They'll take you over the coals with Upcharges and work you don't need unless you do what I did, and that is to walk out and bring my business to an honest shop. I had no idea this was the same people as I had got a [crazy, inaccurate] quote from in 2018. I was quoted over the phone that a complete diagnosis would be $109. They had the make and model, knew it was a truck so should be no surprises when I walk in. RIGHT? wrong. "We like to get paid for our time"; dude at the counter. Then don't misquote customers in the first place. His excuse was, "well, we have to check the back of the truck too". Lame. Posted: are the two quotes for a diagnosis, one from John's and the next from a shop that I won't share here, where my truck is currently being serviced. Further, let's go back a bit in history. In April of 2018 I visited John's location on Riverdale in Grantville. My truck had registered a check engine, which turned up regarding emissions. What did "Johns" say and quote me? " Well, Toyota Tundras have four catalytic converters so you are looking at $3,270. out the door, you need to replace these, then you'll pass smog, clear emissions ". Problem: they got it way wrong: the 2000 Toyota Tundras have TWO catalytic converters mister grifters. After that B.S. I left. [2007s - present have four converters, so ketchup Bubs!] Next, I left and went to "Cardiego" on Adams Avenue. The owner checked the emissions signal and said, " all you need is your drive cycle reset. One hour later and $90. dollars later the work was done, truck passed smog and no more emissions issue. It was my mistake that I had no idea that this same outfit had a second garage in La Mesa, had no idea I was walking into the same line of talk and walk. I expect that the owner Mr. Joan will comment here something like this, " I am sorry you seemed to have this experience, because we don't have a record of you in our system " hmmmm... My response [following my laughter] is this: on 4/27 your computer generated the quote that I have posted here. It generated the information you had on my vehicle back in 2018 because you have my old plate number of 6E71244. So Jon, don't try to tell me you never had me in the "system" because if you had not noticed, I now have personalized plates, I haven't had the 6E7... plates for a while now. To be clear: my Tundra is the best year that was produced, it has been cared for only with master techs, and runs perfectly. Word to the wise: My recommendation is to go elsewhere to take care of your auto. **My truck needed the lower front ball joint replacement in the front only. The shop I went to even took out the $57. diag charge since I had the work done with them. It is silent and smooth as usual. There was no noise in the back and a quote on a diagnosis means you quoted me on a diagnosis of the entire vehicle. Bogus, no: I never "authorized" more diagnosis work. Just a foolish response below.
