My car's under engine splash guard cover was hanging and dragging on road bumps. I called Family Auto Service and Brian told me to bring it in anytime. Within minutes they had it up on the risers and Khris, along with another mechanic, were taking off the cover, straightening it out, and re-attaching it. They were all very pleasant to work with and courteous. When I asked how much I owed them they told me to just have a nice day! You sure don't find service like that anymore! I went into the shop because my husband's car window had rolled all the way done. Due to some wiring issue, it wouldn't roll back up. So, I went in there because they're the only shop that was open in Alpine, California. Bill the owner had advised me that to diagnose it alone is $115.00, then what ever the issue was.. they would go from there. About 45 minutes later, I was told that I needed to replace the glass window itself, it would have to be special order, and it would take a few days for it. First of all, I'm only in town for the weekend. How is that even possible, our resort will not valet it nor we can even park in the parking structure due to the window not closing... Just great! So, I spoke to the mechanic Chris, a very nice gentleman, who had explained everything in details. Also, he resolved this problem in the meantime. But, I would have to take care of it as soon as I get back home. I am forever GREATFUL for CHRIS, you are brought humanity back to my world. I thank you for your help. This place is not the same place you all know years ago. Please try them out. I have brought my 3 vehicles here (mainly for convenience because I work just down the street, but now because I trust them). Brian is amazing. He is awesome. Great customer service, I love his wit, knowledge and communication. I've brought my 2001 F150 here and they did a great job. I've brought my 2020 Hyundai Tucson for a few things, it's been great. And then on Tuesday, I brought my 2000 Jeep Tj to them for an AC issue and what I thought was an exhaust/muffler problem. Now I'm a Jeeper. I have my Jeep mechanics, I'm in Jeep clubs etc but they're not convenient to my work. Brian got an aftermarket part and it didn't fit (dang it cheaper)and he immediately scrambled to find an OEM part. He found it East in Texas. They ship to SD (La Mesa) but not Alpine. So it came in today to La. Mesa (Friday AFTERNOON) and he had to run to La Mesa, pick it up, come back to Alpine and fix my Jeep before close. That efn rocks. I have a SDJC Run tomorrow and no joke, Brian calls me 1.5hrs before they close and says he got it done!! So stoked. Driving it home was amazing. The did their job. My AC worked great (I froze to death and that's saying a lot in a soft top) and fixing the cracked manifold was phenomenal. I'm certain we bought it with it cracked. It's never been this good. I've never got to pass people going uphill before. Hahaha. (If you own a Jeep, you understand). High five to Brian and the whole Family Auto Team. I applaud them. Only warning, if you call and an "Eric from another location is helping out", just make some Swishin noise, pretend you have a bad connection and hang up. Call Brian the next day. It's worth it. Attn: All Alpine Residents and Business Owners, We brought our two-year old Ford Explorer to this establishment to have an oil service preformed some time ago. I watched an employee take our car "behind the building" and when I asked why, the man ignored my inquiry, then said they didn't have time to work on it. About (3) weeks later the vehicle experienced a "knocking" in the engine that was unexplained, and after taking it to the El Cajon Dealer I was told that there was a severe condition. I contacted this Alpine Auto company, and they wanted to replace the engine for approx. $5000.00! I believe that this auto facility "intentionally" put something into the engine that caused this problem. This conclusion is based on the fact that I left the car on their property with a deposit for further repair that I then realized that there was a possible scam occurring, so I used my spare key and removed my car from their lot and took it to the Dealer for resolution which they assisted with. I was then contacted by this facility and told that I had "broken my contract" and demanded $350.00 or they would "sue me". I paid the funds demanded and will NEVER visit these people again! Never done a tire place review before (:: cracks knuckles ::) so here I go. I'll use a different format... Pros: 1) I came in for new tires during their buy 2, get 2 deal. Read the print, it's a 300$ max discount which seems a little sus but it's not like they hide it or anything. So, price wise, not a bad deal on the tires. Did a price comparison to DiscountTires and they were 100$ cheaper with full replacement coverage and wheel alignment! But without the "deal" they might've been a little more expensive... 2) To go along with this, they had free donuts, burgers/hot dogs, lots of free stuff and a giveaway. I dunno, come at the right time and it's pretty sweet. 3) It's more "down to earth", I dunno, you can tell that they are more employee oriented. That was pretty cool, it's like an atmosphere that goes along with the business. They were busy but still felt pretty relaxed. That's important. Cons: 1) Again, without the deal, it would be more expensive but also consider they are in Alpine... so... I mean, they are pretty far away from stuff. 2) Stock selection of tires was low, now... probably because of this deal, but I'd like to think that maybe they'd overstock for this event? 3) They don't take reservations... at least for the tires. First come, first serve so you might end up waiting a bit if you come at the wrong time. Be prepared. Small waiting area too... so... I'd come back. I came over the mountains from the west with 60 mile per hour winds and torrential rain when my tire pressure light came on along with a warning siren. I limped in to Alpine in the dark and was terrified that I had a leak. I waited for FAS to open up but luckly there was a really great breakfast shop across the street. FAS checked the tire out and determined there was nothing wrong with it. They said that it was likely from the change in altitude. FAS did not even charge me for their time! Not a great way to win trust with a new customer. Two weeks ago, I bring my car in for a simple plug and patch on a brand new tire that I picked up a screw. $25 (cash) later and I'm on my way. 1 week later, and the plug is not holding air. I stop in on a saturday afternoon, and Brian (service advisor) tells me to bring it back on monday morning at 7:30. I arrive at 7:15 and there is one person ahead of me. Brian tells me I'll have you out in one hour. 30 minutes passes and I watch as the mechanics fill the bays up with cars. There's no way he's going to "get me out in 1 hour". So, I ask Brian, politely, "Is there a better time or day to bring this back?" " I take cars in as they come in" He says. "Then why did you tell me to come in at 7:30?" and then tell me you will "have me out in 1 hour?" I've got a busy monday morning, and I didn't have time to waste a whole morning with this. At this point I ask for my key back. "Is this this the kind of service I can expect from you guys?" So, it was a small $25 repair. But, It was my first experience with these guys. I spend a lot of money on car repair and maintenance. This is no way to win trust with a new customer. I won't be back. read more

So as we were traveling home our car overheated. We were able to make our way to this place after another shop in town said they would not be able to fix our car for a week. Family Auto Service got us a quote in only about 1 hour. But the part would be brought in the next day. Folks from the shop gave us a courtesy ride to a local hotel they were able to recommend. And then once the repairs were complete they even picked us up at the hotel saving us an Uber bill. So if you get auto troubles in Alpine I recommend Family Auto Service. read more

They charged me 220$ to diagnose it and then told me it would cost me about 1800$ to fix. My friend came over later that day and fixed it in 10min and no parts needed. Took my car this last time because a/c was not as cold pumping out 70 degrees, I go in for a Freon charge and they sell me a diagnostic too, that's ok. 1100.00 later they tell me I got a list of thing wrong but I drive everyday but sat/sun nothing wrong. I took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. They broke off the drain plug to my engine oil pan and then took no responsibility for it instead of admitting that accidents happen. They left it up to me to find a new replacement part, get it to them to fix it and then charged me a fee on top of the oil change to replace what they damaged. Of course I didn't mind paying for the oil change since that's what I came in for. But I feel scammed. I had no choice but to have them fix my car because I can't exactly drive it off the lot without any oil. I am out hundreds of dollars because of this. The sales associate working in the front was so incredibly rude and a complete asshole, ignoring me more than once and talking to me like I'm some stupid kid who can spend $1000+ on 4 tires that aren't necessary or wanted all cause they dont want to sell/put in the labor for just the one. My car isn't old nor are tires worn down, it was literally purchased 4 months ago and came with brand new tires. There was no wear on the tires or "misalignment" like the lady tried to tell me there was based off of PICTURES from a cell phone. I am extremely disappointed in the service provided by this establishment. My car was leaking fluid and I had it towed to them. They told me the car failed the "block" test and needed head gaskets, which would cost between $5000-$6000. They said the dealer was at fault since I had just purchased the used car a couple of months ago, so I had it towed to the dealer where I purchased the car. They said it was just the water pump and they fixed the car at no cost to me.
