We spent a day in Frankfurt and were recommended to go here for Haxe. It was definitely worth the trip. We started with a beer and a radler. We shared the schweinhaxe. We started by eating the crisp skin with mustard. Crunchy! Then we dug into the tender meat and sauerkraut. It was delicious and more than two of us could eat. Like a dummy, I was standing for all to see in the front of the restaurant for about 5min. After asking an employee, I found out you just find a seat All the staff are able to speak English and they also have a barcode to look at the English version of the menu so have no fear fellow English speakers I enjoyed my schnitzel with potatoes but my favorite part of the meal was the sauerkraut I took from someone in our party (since they weren't going to eat it)! It was seriously the best sauerkraut I've had. It wasn't too salty and had the right amount of tang! Super complimentary of any German dish and definitely something I will miss. Food was amazing, we visited the town and stopped by for a beer but ended up eating and was very satisfied with the "haxe"!

The food, beer, service and ambiance here is exceptional! They have a huge beer garden with seats outfitted with blankets to make guests comfortable on slightly chilly days. I ordered the munich schnitzel which comes with fried potatoes and a salad. The serving size is monstrous and spoiler alert - you will likely need a nap after finishing your plate. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, the schnitzel was cooked perfectly and paired well with the lemon wedge and horseradish shavings served atop. The fried potatoes on the side were crunchy and deliciously addicting, as if cooked in crack! This place also brews their own beer and they had two varieties available when I visited - the dunkel and the herbst (autumn) beer. Both were very good and some of the best beer I've had in Frankfurt which is more known for their apple wine. Definitely a great place to come to for an authentic meal and good local beer. Our first meal after touching down and the search began to find a delicious meal and we weren't disappointed. The travelers had all gotten different meals such as Liver meatballs with sauerkraut while others chose the veal schnitzel with roasted potatoes or half chicken with roasted potatoes. I had opted for app of different sausages and links with a potatoe salad. We conplimented our meal with a round of drinks and samplers because we were itching to try some beers. What was great is that this was a craft beer location with large tanks right behind the bar. With our orders placed and our stomachs growling we patiently waited. Taking in the location; its a small location with a few tables and booths allowing small social gatherings to happen while sipping on beer. It was that time between lunch and supper and was surprised to find this place open as usually restaurants closed during our typical "happy hour". Our meal came out pretty quickly though one order didn't make it out with the rest and we had to ask again where the order was. The flavors were great, everything was well seasoned and portions were good. We had decided to taste and sample everyone else's dishes while trying the flight of three different samples ranging from a light beer all the way to a dark full body one. This is a large brew-pub in the attractive small town of Oberursel, 10 miles north of Frankfurt. It's about 20 minutes on the S-bahn (line 5) or 40 minutes by U-bahn (line 3) from central Frankfurt. The pub itself is very large with two main rooms on the ground floor, a large function area on the first floor, a beer cellar underground, as well as a very large beer garden. The two ground floor rooms have traditional German decor of wood, with associated brewing and country paraphenalia on the walls as decoration. In the main bar area you can see the brewing kettles. They serve Alt-Oberursel Brauhaus Pils and Vetter 33 (a very strong wheat beer) all year around, and one of a selection of 16 different seasonal beers, depending on the time of year. They also have an extensive menu of traditional German food, featuring lots of hearty fare, with pork dishes, goulash and sausages featuring strongly. Vegetarian items are also available. The food we tried came in generous portions and was very reasonably priced. They got our bill wrong, but apologised for the error and sorted it immediately. I have been to Alt-Oberurseler Brauhaus three times in total, and each time was a great experience. I was brought there first by my German teacher, who happens to live in Oberursel, with a boisterous group of twenty people. We had several rounds of beer into the late evening. The next two times, I came back with family visitors (my mother and then my husband) for dinner. Although the food is on the salty side, it is very tasty. The brewery's beer offerings change regularly, and I have enjoyed several excellent beers there. The dining room atmosphere is lovely, particularly with its decor of hops hanging from the ceiling. The service is kind and attentive, and some of the waitstaff speak English. I hope to come back when the weather is warmer and the beer garden opens. Oberursel has a beautiful old town area, and I have enjoyed walking through it during all three visits to the Brauhaus. The pretty walk makes the trip into town worthwhile. -S read more

Not quite a greasy spoon restaurant, but not great. Focus is on local cuisine, which is not exactly health-food at the best of times. Yet, frying fat in need of changing, luke-warm food (when it finally did arrive), unimaginative receipes, topped by a waitress more interested in chatting to the regulars than serving waiting guests does not make for a great mix. If you don't fancy a fast-food joint, this one might be ok, otherwise give it a miss, at least for food. The beer might be decent, but we were there during lunch-hour and had to do some more driving, so I couldn't comment on that. read more

I would probably give this place 3.5 stars if I could. It's pretty good. Not mind blowing but a very decent, central and lively spot in Oberursel. Their own brewed beer is nice (a Naturtrüb, I believe). The Schnitzel with Grüne Sauce was also good. I actually loved the salad it came with. Simple but well made. Service was friendly and speedy even when it was quite busy and they were in the midst of the Brunnenfest rush. It has a nice Biergarten which makes a great spot to stop for lunch and a beer on a summer day. Won't blow your hair back but it's a good place for the authentic Brauhaus experience and you can be assured the food is decent and the service is solid. read more

Typical German style beer house. They serve nice beer all year round and foods are also nice. Especially in summer time, the garden is nice to relax with friends. In winter time, it is not bad to sitting together with other German guest in a table. read more
