When school is back, all of the timing for appointments is off and it's because they are running as tight as possible on staff. If you have come in for a 9 AM appointment, that's when the door opens, you will be seen after that. Still, with that in mind I have not had any issues with receiving appropriate and adequate care for my health concerns. All staff and clinicians have been more than kind, courteous, and respectful. Carbon is great in a pinch for urgent care. The downside is that their app doesn't communicate with Epic, which a lot of larger primary care providers (like Sutter and UCSF) do use.

I didn't wait long, maybe around 5-10 minutes for someone to come to the front desk. I presented my confirmation email holding information for my registration number, account number and bar code. Front desk staff Angie said that I would have to pay out of pocket because she's not familiar with the email I presented to her. She stated they only accept two different entities that schedule drug screens. The instructions I received directed me to Carbon Health, while the screening itself was being managed through Vertical Screen. When I arrived, I attempted to explain the situation to the front desk receptionist. It became apparent that my explanation wasn't being fully understood, so I referenced the different entities listed in my email and specifically identified Vertical Screen as the third-party provider. When I mentioned, "It's through Vertical Screen," I was met with a confused "What?" in a noticeably dismissive tone. After repeating myself, the receptionist looked at her computer and simply responded, "K." Unfortunately, this interaction felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. I also spoke with the same receptionist over the phone the day prior to schedule my appointment and experienced a similarly indifferent and discourteous tone. During my wait to be called by a provider for my drug screening, she also answered a phone call, requested to put the patient on hold, and went on her phone for 5 minutes prior to picking up the call -- a greater representation of unprofessionalism in the workplace. I understand that front desk staff often handle a high volume of patients, non-members, and third-party vendors, and that challenging days happen. However, professionalism and courtesy should remain a priority, regardless of the circumstances. As someone who works in healthcare administration for large healthcare organizations where patient experience and service are heavily emphasized, I was disappointed by the lack of basic customer service. My experience with the receptionist significantly impacted my overall impression of this location. I hope management takes this feedback as an opportunity to reinforce the importance of respectful and professional communication with all patients and visitors.

The care I've received was phenomenal! The first nurse who registered me in was super supportive. I didn't get her name but she was a G.I nurse prior and a nurse for 20 years, she wore all red, has short hair with cute glasses! She was very informative, helpful and direct. It was a great experience! There were many staff who also help me to relax about the whole procedure. I honestly don't remember the surgery but remember the after care. The staff who cared for me were Chris, Gia and Senora/ Cinora. Chris made sure I was awake and aware when the anesthesia wore off before sending me to the recovery room where I met nurse Gia. Nurse Gia helped me with understanding the after care instructions, made sure I was well and okay to leave. It was cool to get to know her as well, we have very similar birthdays and I think that was cool! Senora/ Cinora was very kind and sweet. Overall, I had a great experience with 3rd floor- Surgery Intake and would highly recommend them to other people. Thanks to all the medical staffs and doctors also!

As a patient, I am probably the worst when it comes to anticipating stress, pain, and that feeling of not being in control. Yet at Stanford Medical Center Emeryville, I found myself actually relaxing before surgery. Every member of the team took the time to get to know me, understand my needs, and help me navigate what could have been one of the toughest experiences. This breast reduction has changed my life for the better. Knowing that the maestro of reduction surgery was on my side has made my future feel lighter, healthier, and more fulfilling. With the expert precision of Dr. Miller in Plastic Surgery, I am living my dream without the constant back pain. As a surgeon, he is exceptional. As a human being, he truly cares. He listens, he understands, and he gets you. I would do it all over again -- especially knowing my Stanford Medical team would be there beside me. I've been trying to reach the clinic for nearly a week and NO ONE PICKS UP THE PHONE. Where are all the operators? I try calling in all different hours of the day hoping to get someone. I've only gotten someone to pick up the phone ONCE. They transferred me to the wrong department. I call back again and they AGAIN transferred me to ANOTHER wrong department. I gave up for that day. Since then, I have been on hold for nearly an hour each time I call in, and no operator will pick up the phone. I've had an urgent referral sent over and can't even reach anyone to make an appointment. I've been to other Stanford Health clinics and didn't have this kind of experience. Too bad this Emeryville clinic location is the only one that has the center that I need. I am shocked at how horrible the staffing is here and I haven't even visited this location physically yet. Absolutely despicable.

I called the Sutter number listed for this location from my car to let them know what was happening and they told me they'll let the office know and no problem. Sutter has a 15-min late policy which allows them to cancel your appointment if you're late. I walked in 14 minutes into my appointment time. After checking in and waiting to see the doctor, I was told that Dr.Wallace decided to cancel my appointment. I was shocked! I asked to speak to Dr. Wallace, but I was told she needed to leave early that day and was filling out paperwork. I waited to speak to the clinic manager and complained that my appointment should not be cancelled because a doctor wants to leave early on a Friday afternoon and that I was not technically late. She explained that I was late, because the checking in process took about 2-3 minutes. I had a time sensitive medical reason why I needed to see a PCP and waited weeks for that appointment. I was crying uncontrollably in the lobby and requested again to just speak to the doctor briefly, but she refused and did not care. It is a terrible feeling to deal with a medical problem and feel that no one is willing to help you. I cannot imagine that a doctor who treats any of her patients in this careless way can be an effective or empathetic caretaker. Obviously this clinic is pretty bad also from all the 1-star reviews.

We were charged over $500 for simple tests we didn't ask for and didn't need. In another case, we brought in routine camp health forms for my daughter. The front desk wouldn't accept them without an appointment. During the visit, the doctor confirmed the appointment wasn't actually needed for the forms, yet we were still charged based on minor concerns that came up in conversation. The doctor was kind, but unfortunately, the costs were never clearly explained. Both situations felt like "gotcha" billing... Originally this was a two star review, but I just discovered the bill was sent to collections - we've been waiting for Sutter to respond to my letter appealing the charges.

We were offered Ativan or morphine immediately in the ER and I kept agreeing and asking for what was offered, to have it walked back by the nurse. An ER nurse left a syringe of oral medication with us, which the child did not consume because he was still traumatized by the poor IV placement which took several tries. And yet hours later we had to keep reminding nurses that the painkiller medication was not taken, yet someone recorded their painkiller medication for my child as taken when it wasn't?! My poor kid suffered extra hours because the nurse incorrectly logged his medication as taken after treating him like a dog. You can't administer meds orally with a torture device - so disappointing for a leading CHIlDREN'S hospital. Poor medication management. The nurse who traumatized our kid twice to get the IV line in said she would get him his favorite color popsicle but didn't bring it. I had to ask the next set of hospital staff who came over to fulfill the promise of a green prize for enduring the unfortunate IV experience. What kind of trust are nurses and healthcare providers building in kids when we don't follow up on simple things? This is all bait and switch, up and down. Two nurses offered to move us from the "door bed" to the "window bed", and the window seat was open when the window bed emptied for a day, so I sat at the window seat to eat lunch, but was chased out by a charge nurse shaming me for contaminating a space that wasn't mine. Finally our bedside nurse moved us to the window bed a few hours later and I feel safe sitting on the window seat my child has been stuck in this room for days. Perhaps parents need the Ativan more because the howls of sick children getting treatment fill the inpatient halls. Is there no way to utilize a soundproofed treatment room so it's less ridiculously loud with children's screams? Please take your ill children elsewhere. We have been stuck here two long painful nights so far and I can't wait for us to get out of this place.
