I've had nothing but issues with this credit union since opening an account earlier this year. 1.) Initially I could perform Zelle transactions (and did) but then a week after my account was opened all of a sudden it stopped functioning. I was told by their customer service line that there was a 60-day period where it wasn't allowed. A manager at the branch also stated that was the case when I followed up in person. I found it odd that it would work initially but then stop functioning. As I had an account elsewhere at the time it wasn't a big deal but still something to note. After the following issues I've had I began to question the validity of the "60 day period" or whether they were blowing smoke. This 60 day window was never mentioned when opening the account and Zelle was brought up as a payment option. Admittedly this was something I had no clue to even ask as I have not experienced this issue with other banks or CUs. 2.) They printed the wrong account number on temporary checks which has caused me to have to chase down a payment with a vendor. The vendor deposited the check and the funds were withdrawn from my account but the funds were never deposited into the vendor's account. I was at least able to get a facsimile of the check withdrawal from a branch manager but have had to ask for for some sort of verification from the vendor that they did not receive the funds to provide Alta Vista proof. This is still an ongoing issue that I've been dealing with for over a month. I don't know whether my funds are sitting somewhere in the limbo of back channel bank processing or somewhere on Alta Vista's balance sheet. 3.) Both their app and their website can be very hit or miss. Their phone hotline both for branches and the general line have both had technical issues on multiple occasions when I was trying to resolve all of the issues listed on this review. I've had to physically go into a branch to get adequate assistance from the staff. 4.) The final straw was earlier tonight. While checking out for groceries I attempted to use my debit card and it failed even though I knew there were enough funds available. When I attempted to check both their website (on multiple browsers) and their app, both also failed to load my account balances. I tried a third party ATM and received the response "balance unavailable." I was near the Rialto branch after it had closed and when I swung by two other members were outside at the ATM having the same issues even accessing their balances. The technical issue appeared to have been resolved a couple of hours later but I've never in my life had an issue where I was completely unable to access my money from a banking institution. For a bank this is their primary purpose and to me absolutely unacceptable that something like this should occur. Had the transaction been for something important I would have been up s**t creek. I'm going to withdraw my balance down to the bare minimum to keep the account open for free as a backup but won't be using them going forward. Even if the staff are nice everything else has just been way too mickey mouse with this CU. If you choose to use them I hope you have a better experience than I have had. read more

I have been banking with Alta Vista Credit Union and became a member in 2009. I have to say that from the get-go- I was treated very well. I have enjoyed a great relationship at both the Rialto and the Redlands branches. There was only one employee that was a bit stiff and brisk in her demeanor- but she didn't last long- and - for the most part- every single teller has taken time with me- even with the most simple transactions. I have had great help with getting things notarized - again- kind and accomodating. On a couple occasions I couldn't reconcile my account and they helped me figure out my error. One employee really didn't have the time to help me and made a suggestions, which I applied and my error was discovered. She had spent more than an hour helping me though- I can't complain about that. I have had a stop payment -simply because my mail was stolen with a ck attached. They were kind enough to waive the fee- Such a kindness! In the beginning, I took on an auto loan- to which I never had a single problem with the account and paid it off in 4 years. I borrowed money a few years ago and again- there wasn't any difficulty in getting the money. I have and will continue to Praise this Credit Union and recommend it to others. I have two friends who opened accounts as a result and they are happy with their experiences. I am sadly moving soon and there won't be an Alta Vista - where I am going. I have to say that I will be very sad to not have them to rely upon. My review is better than great- It is just beyond words. I came into the bank to deposit my check. I was rudely treated by a male teller. I believe his name was Manuel. He kept questioning me about where my check was from. I explained I started a new job and it was my last paycheck from my previous employer. He said he was gonna place it on hold. When I asked why he said that's the policy. I told him it's my paycheck and I need it. I was receiving direct deposit for my previous ones. I asked him to check that and he refused and was dismissive. When asked to speak to a manager he said they weren't available. I ended up having to take my check to my other bank. He needs to learn how to treat customers. It was the worst experience I've ever had there. read more

Outside ATMs always faulty (sometimes showing windows operating system messages), overall systems going down often preventing even checking online for account balances, and zero accommodations for tying up clients money or making empty eta promises for system resolutions. As much as I've always been a loyal client here, I'm already starting to look at other alternatives. Nothing is more terrifying than a bank having a shutdown more than once in a short time period where even the tellers can't help with your account transactions (which is also very unfortunate as their customer service is usually exemplary). read more

The folks at Alta Vista are friendly enough (especially their tellers), but their policies leave much to be desired. Be sure to read their online banking agreement. If you have bills set to pay and don't have enough in your account to pay them, they will "courtesy pay" them to the tune of $29 each even if they overdraw your account. So you have to watch it like a hawk or else any further debit purchases will also rack up the $29 charge. Yes, I watched my account but had another bank mistakenly draw an ACH on my Alta Vista account the same day I had 5 bill pays scheduled. $29 x 5 = $145, even though it was the other bank's clerical error. I had plenty of written evidence, and the manager, whom I did not get a chance to speak to since the receptionist was the one delivering my issue, only decided to credit my account for half. Yes, they wanted to make $72.50 off me because they could. Additionally, this problem froze my access to bill pay so I was now late on several other bills that were supposed to process the following day. So that was the day I decided to close my account and go to Chase, whose mobile deposits show up immediately (Alta Vista took 1-2 days), and whose bill pay sends an alert when your account does not have the funds to pay an online bill...no "courtesy pay" (read: profit opportunity) here. read more

I sent many emails with the information they requested and the "supervisor" was not helpful, very short and pretty much told me she wasn't going to help me with my dispute and to contact the other party involved. Would never use Alta Vista again. After my loan is paid off in 3 months I'm closing my account. They do not stop overdraft or someones account to be overdrawn. They just charge you $30+ per transaction even if its $1. In 1 day I was charged almost $150 in fees for less then $10 in purchases. Talked to a manager and he said he could return a couple fees, but never did. Also the employees always seemed to busy to help you. read more

Man I was having a really bad experience prior to meeting Sherry and let me tell you from the moment of meeting her she was sooo sweet, attentive, and understanding. She listened to everything I had to say as well understood my circumstances. Caution: this is a long review because I had an account with this mess of a financial institution since I was 14 and (formerly known as Norton Community Credit Union). I just recently cancelled both my checking and saving accounts earlier this year after finally having enough. I will say this--after over a decade and a half of having accounts with them, AVCU is at least consistent in its incompetence. A lot of their incompetence is because their employees don't know how to use common sense. During one of my many calls to them about fraud on my account, one of the reps asked me what the fake charges were for. I didn't make them, genius, how in the world am I supposed to know? Upon closing my account, I sent them a letter with EXTREMELY clear instructions on where to send the rest of my money and they still called me because they "had questions." Not to mention the grown a** man who initially helped me open my account was incredibly rude and unhelpful, like it was completely below him to open an account for a teenager (despite the fact that I went on to use it well into adulthood). Their "fraud detection" is barely that. If you check your account often, you'll be able to catch fraud in your account before they do. I did. Several times. Ended up having to call them when they're supposed to call the customer about suspicious charges, especially since they go ahead and hold your card anyway. This is a process that takes them several days. Longer if you need a new debit card. And that's if it's even caught at all. (Fraud detection at my new online bank contacted me within minutes of suspicious activity on my card.) So obviously AVCU's ancient, broken fraud detection system isn't worth a d*mn. Also, I was defrauded MANY times while with this bank, one time a POS stealing $400 from my account. Speaking of needing a new debit card... I changed my address online (when it was still possible to do so), and a few weeks later had to order a new debit card due to the above type of fraud, the bank rep confirmed my NEW address, and these clowns still sent the card to the wrong address! The worst part was having to call them like half a dozen times about what was really one issue. Because I called them again asking where the card was, since it hadn't arrived when they said it would, and in their infinite wisdom they told me to just wait (for a card that would actually never come). I called them once more because constantly having to pull cash with my checks was getting insane and they told me they sent the card to my old address--even though I (and they) confirmed the current one--and the rep offered absolutely no apology for the runaround, delay, or making it nearly impossible for me to pay for anything for 2 weeks. To say that this institution is completely lacking in integrity and competence is too kind. Months before officially closing my accounts, I sent a message on the site asking *how* to close the account. Instead of answering me, whoever handled it decided the best thing to do was just delete the message (even from my end). Disgusting. I sent a second one, telling them I'd just keep sending it and their first genius instinct was to tell me to come in. I live in NorCal. They're located in SoCal. So yeah, lacking common sense once again. Also please take note that if you open an account with AVCU *and* opt-out of paper statements, they will still CONSTANTLY snail-mail you their spam/junk/advertisements. I tried for literal years to get them to stop but they never did. I even got them to agree to never send me their BS again, but that was a lie. And even though I never updated my address with them after I moved (because they made it impossible to do online), they started sending paper mail to that address too. When I was 18 and about to go off to college, I filled out paperwork to have my mother removed from my account. That meant she shouldn't have been able to have access to any information in my account. Not according to the literal criminals who work at AVCU. They continually gave this woman--who wasn't named on my account--the balance and transactional information just because she said she was my mother. My mother delighted in describing these experiences to me. TLDR; bank with literally anyone else. read more

She was very helpful and helped me say what I needed to say to the representatives that we handling my payment. They have always been helpful and have always been very friendly. I've been with Alta vista for almost three years now. I have a car loan with them, I've never made a late payment in the three years not even a day late and I have always paid via money order through the mail. There has never been an issue. Apparently Alta vista has a scam artist working there who steals people's checks and alters them. Long story short I get a call from them saying where's my payment, I told the account specialist I paid it I have the receipt she says in response "this just happened to another customer so now you have to pay 15 dollars to western union to get a picture of the check and when you get it send the picture over to me." So meaning it's happened before and now I'm the next victim of this since she clearly knows the steps to take when this happens. My next payment I made sure to pay over the phone and pay a EXTRA $10 fee for over the phone payments since there is clearly a thief in the company. I receive the picture today in the mail and there's a persons name where I put Alta Vista Credit Union. I hope they can pull videos of the person intercepting peoples checks because this is fraud and now my credit report reflects their negligence. I can update this review when I get the resolution from Alta vista. read more

Been banking with Alta vista about a year now and could not be happier. The service is above and beyond. Every employee ive been in contact with are the friendliest and always smiling. I feel like a member as opposed to a number at regular banks which makes a difference. My whole family has now switched to Alva vista credit union. Give them a try! read more
