I had a sprinkler leak about a foot below the surface near a sidewalk and it was unknown where it was, under sidewalk, up hill of sidewalk, or right where water was seen. I was asking for quotes. He said he would dig for free and gave me a fair quote. Hour later he said he had the area was too flooded and he couldn't finish today and thanks for the opportunity. He did not ask for any payment! Seemed like the leak was right where he was digging. I dug couple more inches a couple days after he left. I could see it was a connection that became unglued. Pretty simple fix at that point for him. I could have called someone else to finish but I had to get him back. It was only fair that he finish. Plus I suspected someone else would charge more. Although with the pipe now exposed it probably could have been done for next to nothing. He is located maybe 10-20 miles away so it took a week to be back in my area. He fixed it very quickly. Then I paid him to also fix the sprinkler wiring that had two bad connections and to fix some leaks from the main to the sprinkler that a plumber had put in for 5 months earlier due to a water main replacement. It was about a foot long with about 4 pipes and connectors. He showed me the plumber used the wrong glue. This doubled my price but compared to recent experiences I felt it was a good price. read more
