We're originally from the Portland, Oregon area, and back in July 2024, we began our search for a new place to call home -- somewhere with warmer weather, a slower pace of life, and a community where we could truly belong. At first, we explored Arizona, focusing on Tucson and the surrounding areas, but nothing felt right. We didn't find the sense of home we were searching for. So, we widened our search and discovered Chaparral, New Mexico -- and everything changed. The very first home we looked at in this up-and-coming area was built by Am.On Roofing & Remodeling, owned by Homar Navarrete. At the time, we didn't know Homar had built it, but we decided to make the four-hour drive from Tucson to Chaparral. From the moment we arrived, we fell in love -- with the desert views, the warm and welcoming community, and the beautiful craftsmanship of the home we viewed. That day sparked the beginning of our dream. Meeting the Dream Team Our realtor, Heather Hamilton from Coldwell Banker Las Cruces, introduced us to Homar Navarrete and his amazing team at Am.On Roofing & Remodeling. We also had the pleasure of meeting Deyra Loya, Tanya Ocampo, and later Aurora Nunez. Homar walked us through several of his finished builds, and every single one was modern, elegant, and beautifully crafted. While we were impressed by each home, we realized we wanted something uniquely ours -- a custom home that reflected our style, our needs, and our vision. Homar made that possible! The Journey to Our Custom Home We began working closely with Homar, his incredible team, and our realtor Heather to bring our dream to life. We never imagined we'd be able to build a custom home, but Homar gave us the confidence and guidance to make it happen. The process wasn't always easy -- there were moments of impatience and bumps along the way -- but Homar's professionalism, Aurora's constant communication, and the entire team's dedication made all the difference. Even though we were 1,600 miles away in Oregon, we always felt connected and informed. From choosing colors and layouts to selecting lighting and finishes, every detail was thoughtfully planned and perfectly executed. A Home Built with Heart In August 2025, our dream became a reality when we moved into our custom-built home. Walking through the front door -- that oversized, beautiful door we fell in love with on day one -- was one of the most unforgettable moments of our lives. Homar's craftsmanship is exceptional. Every detail, every finish, and every design decision reflects his passion and skill. He and his team went above and beyond to ensure that our vision came to life -- and they succeeded beyond our expectations. Alfredo Armendariz went above and beyond what we expected a contractor to do. We had hail damage from a storm last October. Even though several houses on our block also had damage and were getting new roofs, our insurance adjuster denied our damage claim. We asked for a second inspection. During that inspection, Alfredo walked with the inspector, and talked on the phone with our adjuster, pointing out all the damage. His keen eyes and knowledge made a huge difference in the second adjuster's decision to cover our claim. Alfredo was extremely easy to work with. The price was very reasonable, so I accepted the proposal and we scheduled for the work. The Pioneer crew showed up on time every morning and got right to work, only breaking for a quick lunch. At the end of each day, they cleaned the entire property of all debris before leaving. The job took a full 5 days, which was expected, and their work is absolutely top-notch. It turned out I needed additional decking, and Alfredo consulted with me about it immediately and advised what the additional cost would be. I will contact Pioneer every time I need work done on my home, and have recommended Pioneer to all of my co-workers. Scheduling was super easy and fast, they got me on the calendar within days and the work was done efficiently with excellent craftsmanship. This is an update to my review from 1/2/22. In 2025 the…read morenewly installed mortar fell apart again. The original mortar laste from 2005 until 2022. The one installed by AAAA lasted not even 3 years! I called AAAA (Armando?) and set up an appointment - no show. I called a couple of more times to no avail. It turned out that AAAA never used the necessary glue and fiber additive in the mortar - 3 other roofers that I called for a repair all stated the same. You want a crappy job and waste your money - call AAAA Contractors.
