Passed this store and saw this super cute dress on display that my daughter loved for her upcoming 8th grade graduation. They have a lot of great southern style clothes...def liked the vibe in here. Store associates were very friendly and inviting. When checking out she explained this store originated in Tennessee and is a Christian based store (kinda figured when I saw all the crosses on jewelry and "i love god" stickers lol). A big con is definitely the prices! Hardly any in store sales or anything. Basic tops were $50 + that were similar elsewhere for half the cost. read more

I randomly passed this store when doing some last minute holiday shopping in Oak Brook and wish I had more time! I thought it was Anthropologie to be honest until I read the door. I was warmly welcomed when I walked in and the associate asked me right way if there was anything at all that she could help me find. I really was just browsing but appreciated the effort. The store was spotless and everything was perfectly organized. I love the unique mix of items you could find here, especially the fun ornament section! They had blankets and pillows and so many fluffy things I had to keep walking haha! I ended up snagging a dishwasher (and baby) safe bib for my nephew. GENIUS idea and I've never seen one like this!? He's at the point now where he's exploring all his food and they go through so many bibs that get dirty. Also, this company, Bella Tunno donates a meal to a child in need with each purchase. How awesome is that? Last, the cashier was pleasant and there was no line to pay which was a miracle this time of year. She event added some extra tissue to the bag because it's so cute it acts as a gift bag also! Can't wait to come back when I have more time and holiday cash to spend :D read more

I love the clothes at Altar'd State and when I was there once I saw a girl and her fiancé in the dressing room area where while she tried clothes on he would wait in the dressing room waiting area for her to come out and see how she looked. He was supporting her by asking the clerk if she could get another size. I thought this was so cute. The next week I went with my fiancé here and had him wait on the bench to see how an outfit looked on me. Mind you when the dressing room is closed no one can see you changing and it's an open seating area. When I came out the third time he was gone. I looked around and the store clerk said I'm sorry but the customers with their young daughter are not comfortable with him being in the waiting area. I later asked her are men not allowed not in the dressing waiting area and she said no couples come all the time. It's 2025... and this really upset my fiancé. He didn't know what he did wrong. He wasn't even facing the same direction as the people with their daughter. My room was complete opposite of hers. As a customer, I do not think this is right. Either create a store policy that men cannot be in the area or allow loved ones to be there if the other customer wants them too. If the ladies were uncomfortable with him there they can go to another store. It's a public area. If I wasn't comfortable of another lady in the room would they kick them out? Probably not. Just because my fiancé is a man does not mean he's a pervert or a weirdo. I wanted him there for his thoughts and like I said before it's not a policy for him to not be there and have seen many couples, fathers, sons, grandfathers there before. This could be a hot topic but this makes me very upset. read more

With two college age daughter's, I love coming to Altar'd State with or without them. I can always find gifts for them here and the lotions, candles and perfumes are as refreshing as the cute signage and inspirational plaques. The clothing and accessories are so adorable, the music uplifting and the store personnel are helpful and friendly without being overbearing. While I feel some of the items are overpriced, especially some that appear damaged and on the hanger, if you catch a good sale or have time to browse the special markdowns section, you may likrly find a great bargain. The jewelry is cute too, but for the price, I feel like some of it is cheap or falls apart easily. There's a store closer to me at Woodfield Mall too, but the sales associates aren't as friendly or helpful as I felt they were at Oak Brook. There are also unique Illinois branded accessories, like hats or bracelets, which make cute gifts for family who've moved out-of-state, but for them, this will always be their home. I also love the attention to little details, like the prayer journal, uniquely displayed shoes and the ability to interact online with this retailer. I am really loving this store. First, I love the merchandise they sell. It has an Anthropologie type feel but affordable. They sell clothing, jewelry, shoes, and various other items. The staff is always incredibly helpful without being invasive. I've purchased a few items on separate occasions - a dress, a necklace... each is made beautifully, well worth the amount spent. One particular time I came into the store about ten minutes to closing and you would never have known it. I was treated well. No one tried to rush me or gave me the annoyed greeting - everyone was very nice. Although I still made the effort and was out on time. It's in a great location in Oak Brook Mall, right near the food court. read more

Everything from super comfy sweaters to tree ornaments and necklaces has a unique style with an intended purpose and a charity given a small percentage of each purchase. It may be a little Bohemian for sure, but I see my mom and I shopping there and finding something we love at almost each and every visit. Interesting place if you like bohemian-romantic-renaissance faire style clothes (my shopping companion said she was getting flashbacks to the cover of Heart's "Little Queen" album). I found a lot of things to try on but didn't end up with anything to take home. Basically it was due to the combination of styling and pricing: - Dresses were all way too short on me (I am tall); even when the body fit perfectly, the skirts were always at least two or three inches shorter than I liked. - Prices are pretty high. For example, there was a long skirt that I liked well enough...but not $60 enough. (A sign outside said they do donate a portion to charity, but it wasn't clear what the charity was from the sign; if I had bought something I would have inquired.) Maybe I'm just dense, but despite the charity thing and the punny name I didn't realize that this was a Jesus-oriented store until we were ready to leave! On our way out I noticed a table with some t-shirts saying things like "Love is patient, love is kind" and "Faith: it's not knowing God can, it's knowing he will", and a big whitewashed board with John 3:16 printed on it. If this sort of thing is going to bother you, it's obviously not the store for you. I will say that unlike other places they don't beat you over the head with it. Staff was all very nice and accommodating, and they have perhaps the most beautiful dressing room I have ever been in! Hopefully they lengthen their skirts and I can buy something some day, because they did have some lovely pieces. read more

Altar'd State at at Oak Brook center's staff is far undertrained. The quality of the product is good, however, the quality and attitude of the cashier is very poor and under average. We usually shop at Deer Park store in Palatine and have very good experience with staff every time we come in. Today we went to Oak Brook center and stopped by this store. (07/29/2022 at 3.50 pm) My daughters bought 4 dresses and I bought a very beautiful purse. The cashier asked if anyone help us and I said, "The girl in the fitting room did." She did not look happy after hearing that. She wrapped and bagged my daughter's dresses, then I paid for everything. I asked that my purse be put in the different bag for me. However, it turned out she did not check out the purse at all. She said she thought it was my own purse. I said it was ok, then she scanned it and I paid for it. Leaving the purse on the counter she asked me if I want her to wrap it. Even though altar'd state always wrap goods nicely for their customers I did not think this girl was willing to do so when she asked me that question, so I said "It's ok , you can just put it in another bag for me". Then she said "You can put it in THAT bag pointing to the bag my daughter was holding behind me, there is a lot of room in it!", she continued. I did what she said, picked up the bare purse from the counter and put in that bag that my daughter was holding by myself and we left the store. We thought about it, why this transaction was so comfortably handled and the service was so poor, unlike all other times we shopped at the other store in Deer Park. The purse looks so beautiful and I bought it as a gift to myself, shouldn't it be treated with care which will add the value to it? The girl rather decided to do it differently and treated it like it is a trash. She greatly devalued the product the store caries with her attitude. To me, the purse isn't beautiful anymore with the experience and story that came with it. This girl really did change my perspective towards altar'd states brand. Not caring, devaluing ! If only Altar'd states cares about the quality of their service and train their employee well and consistently in every of their stores, it could be better. Thank you. read more

First visit, of many, I am thinking. I stopped in because the styles displayed in the window looked like they would work on any age body. Why can't women, and I suppose men, just accept their age? Maybe it is just me, but I do not find all the augmentation attractive. Dress in something that is comfortable and looks good on you ~ and here is a store filled with items that can do just that. A portion of each sale goes toward feeding, clothing, and educating children. The fabrics are soft and feel good against your skin ~ no itchy clothes here. Again, make sure to try everything on before purchasing as the cut varies while sizing stays the same. I didn't feel like I was supposed to feel some "come to Jesus" experience. I saw it as a more subtle, supportive, empowering feeling. Pricing was on target, not outrageous. They also have accessories, jewelry, and I saw a few pairs of sandals (on sale). I visited Altar'd State this afternoon with my mom as we had some free time to pass in the Chicago area. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted and asked if we needed help. We mentioned finding jeans that were baggy-style with little to no holes. Within 2 minutes, we were shown 4 different options and given a fitting room to begin trying the jeans on. CeCe at Altar'd State was amazing. She even came to the fitting room and gave us opinions when we had the jeans on and helped us make the right decision. We also met an Ana who was helpful as well. Overall, this was a great experience and we cannot wait to go back to this store. We felt like we could spend all day in here and continue to shop while also talking with great employees. I couldn't hear what she was saying when she was announcing my total, and when I asked what it was she continued to mumble and then got frustrated when I gave her the wrong amount of money and didn't even say thank you or anything when she gave me my bag. Looked it up online but figured why not check if the Oakbrook location had it. I called and spoke to Jenna. Very nice girl and very accommodating. I told her the name of the scarf and she went to look for it, came back to check on me and asked spelling of the name and I also described it to her. She then told me it had been sold out for a month. I asked her if I could ship to store like other stores do and she said they didn't do that BUT that she could give me a free shipping code.
