I love that she didn't overdo anything. She enhanced what was already there instead of trying to change it. First ever Yelp review, and for good reason! My session here with Marcella was amazing. Decided to grow long hair for the first time in 2020, following lockdown. Never had it cut, trimmed, or styled since, just weathered it. Knew it was time and even being nervous from other places who all my life pretty much never knew what they were doing with my hair, decided to head here to Alter Ego. Those places . . not even close. The experience was beyond worth it, and has me psyched even now, a couple days after! This review is for Sarina - an eyelash extension practitioner. Be careful if you use her. Make sure you ask about her refund policy and use a credit card - not cash. I was referred to Sarina by Marcy. Up until this visit, I really liked her and was excited to find someone local to work with. I've been to Sarina three times. I let her know from the get-go that I was having trouble finding someone who could do my extension and make them last. She assured me she was willing to try different techniques to see what worked. And at no point did she tell me I wouldn't get a refund if they fell off quickly. The first set fell off quickly and she replaced the missing ones no with no charge. This time they stayed on a little better. Almost a whole week. I didn't want to ask her to do them again, so I just waited until I needed a fill. Unfortunately, I got sick and couldn't get a fill. So I just went yesterday and got a new set. $100.00 plus I tipped her $20.00. Most of the lashes fell off my left eye by the time I got home. Many fell out of my left eye. This morning, I asked if she had time to replace them. First, she said she had an opening at 12. Then she asked me if I wanted to try someone else. I explained that I didn't want to try someone new. And I gave her the option of just removing the remaining lashes and issuing a refund if she didn't want to continue. She asked if it was really necessary to remove the remaining lashes. So - she didn't want to fix them, she didn't want to remove the remaining lashes, and she's refusing to give me a refund. So I'm out $120 and get to walk around with half eyelash extension. Also, during my appointment, she was busy chatting for half my appointment with a local guy who hangs out on Grand. He was standing right over the table and gabbing with her while she did my service. This morning, I told her I was uncomfortable with it and she ridiculed me because he's a disabled person. Sarina is clearly new to being a business owner and doesn't put her clients first. read more

I needed a very big pick me up. A total revamp. I had Leah do my hair, add curls, color some gray and tone down my blonde ends. I couldn't be more happy with the outcome. I had Marcy do my lashes. The lashes are stunning AF. I've had lash extensions before, and let me tell you, Marcy's work blows all the others out of the water. And I can't forget about Jack! This review is regarding the hairstylist "J". When I first came to J my hair was thick, healthy, waist length with traditional blonde highlights. I had this style/cut/color for over a decade by my former stylist. Since my old stylist moved, I needed to find someone new. At first J did a great job achieving a blonde traditional highlight. But I found it odd she never wrote down or remembered my formula. Over the course of 18 months, my hair kept getting blonder and more straggly. The low lights from my natural color disappeared. I was all over this yellow, brittle stringy thin blonde look. With all the damage my thick blunt cut had morphed into tangly sticky shard like pieces. I brought this to her attention which she dismissed hair loss/breakage to the shampoo/condition/other products I had been using for several decades as the cause of all of the sudden hair issues, but more than happy to promote the salons products as a solution. Someone I know who had also been going to J was also experiencing the same issues. AND THEN I SAW THE TRUTH .... On my last visit, I saw in the mirror her overlapping bleach with the ph-bonder stuff she gloats about using. I asked her about it and she says she only overlaps to cover up any longer dark hairs (I get traditional highlights which means there should be low lights you weave around and don't beach, AND YOU NEVER SHOULD OVERLAP BLEACH even on the bleached highlight growth) ... OMG BAM !!!!! She was overlapping and giving me full color by not sticking to a weaving pattern. After she threw some sparkly crap toner (again which I never needed in the past decade), then my hair could take no more - Extreme breakage, fuzzy crown, tangles from broken hair. When I drove back to the salon in horror, she did not admit to doing anything wrong yet despite seeing the damage. She acted like my hair was normal and what was happening was normal... just take some vitamins. I went elsewhere for my next hair highlight, and they were mortified at the damage. They were shocked that someone (with alleged years of experience) would overlap bleach, and then continue to do so each session despite seeing the damage and probably clumps of hair in the wash bowl. They also indicated she may have been straightening my hair while still damp which actually has the effect of boiling it. I will never go back to J. read more

I found out about Ashley on a Facebook group,and I was not disappointed! I accidentally text her boss and she was still able to get back to me and get me in within a week! She asked me a lot about my hair before she quoted me which I really loved since I have medium/long length and very thick hair. I loved the price she quoted me at and made my appointment! I came in and she was smiling and very bubbly. Ashley was very easy to talk to and the best part was she did exactly what I asked her to do! I wanted full foil and very blonde! She did exactly that! I will be back and I truly enjoyed all of my time spent at the salon. It was a very relaxed atmosphere for most of the visit I felt like it was only her and I in the entire salon. I really, really love my pedi/mani's here, but what I look forward to more are my pedicures. The owner has changed the policy that the manicurists cannot use hot water for soaking.
