I had gone to another salon to get a new hair cut. I wanted to go from waist-length hair to an A-Line bob. When I got home from that (unnamed) salon, I noticed I was having a hard time styling it. Long story short, the other stylist chopped the back up pretty bad. I came to Elle to fix it and she did an AMAZING job! I showed her the original picture and she knew exactly what to do. She was very professional, and showed me an easier way to style as well. The entire staff at Alter is wonderful. Kind and sweet and the salon is neat and clean and very welcoming. I have been to this salon multiple times and always left happy. My appointment yesterday was something else. I had an appointment with Jenna and she started my color and another stylist helped apply the color which was fine. Jenna got another client and that was the end of it. The other stylist took over. I was taken to be rinsed and another person who I am sure is inexperienced as water was splashing all over my face and I am not even sure my hair got treated right because most of the time the water was running but not on my hair. I actually wondered if they were looking at their phone. Who knows. The chatter in the salon was annoying - I can't really describe it- just very self centered and no interaction with the client ( myself ) I also felt like an inconvenience to the stylist when I asked to have my hair styled. This salon might be great for someone but not for me. I was satisfied with the color and as far as my experience goes I am sad that this place isn't what it used to be. I decided to try this salon for my daughter's hair care. Her hair is extremely thick and she wanted a wavy/bouncy look. Her stylist is Aaron and from the first day he has made her feel beautiful and special. He does an amazing job and is very friendly. She looks forward to seeing Aaron and absolutely loves how he transforms her each time! All the staff we have encountered are wonderful. I've seen them work in teams on people and they always have a smile on their face and are eager to lend a hand to each other. It's very nice to return to a salon and see the same faces over and over. My daughter went to Alter today for a haircut and style/curl for homecoming. They fit us in because she was unexpectedly cancelled by another salon, that could get us in later but it was too late for her dance. So we went here. The lady was very nice but our appointment was at 100, she started late about 1:15-1:20. Not a big deal. She cut and then round brush curled my daughters hair. About half way through I showed concern that I didn't not feel like those curls were going to hold for a dance that started at 7. She said oh it's just like using a curling iron. It took her 1 hour and 40 mins to do this. 15 minutes later we are home and it has already started to fall out. The bottom is almost flat which was what was done first. So I can only imagine what the top will look like in an hour. read more

I started going to Alter salon about a year ago. My stylist is Ari. She has done a fantastic job every single time and I have tried a few different styles and color treatments. This girl is truly an artist! I also really liked the fun upbeat vibe. All of the stylists are so friendly, funny and just a blast to be around. I love to sit and listen to all of their silly stories!! The music is fun, the place is cute and eclectic and they also have a small boutique in case you need to grab something to complete your new look. I am telling you these stylists are uber talented!! Awful! I went into go from dark to light. And Sadie screwed my hair! I've had color services for 19 years, and never in my life have I been treated so badly. I asked for my money back or a correction ASAP. They said they could fit me in 5 days! No thank you!!! My hair is brassy and looks like I had growth for months and never got a touch up. Worst service and professionalism ever. Please don't go here. I asked for an ombré/balayage and got no where close to that. And they nickel and dime you. After the stylist messes up they charge you for everything. After spending $273 and leaving a $22 tip (which I wouldn't of done if I hadn't been so sick from sitting in a chair for 7 hours) my hair looks awful. I now have to go somewhere else and get it fixed which will cost me more! I'm even thinking about talking to a lawyer. The damage they did to my hair and the stress I now have endure is ridiculous! I came to this salon a couple months ago with black hair and asked for a brown balayage. I left with virtually no difference except for a couple strips of brown on one side. I came back in for them to fix it without charge and they messed it up even more. It looks like I had spots of brown all over my hair. There was no consistency. It wasn't a balayage, it wasn't even an ombré. They completely destroyed my hair. Now after paying hundreds of dollars there, I have to find another hair salon that can fix their mistake. They put my hair through hours of treatment and damage for this. First photo is what I asked for. The second photo is after my first visit and the last is from my second visit. Edit: There was no miscommunication. The stylist told me he could easily get me to the photo I showed within my first visit even knowing I had box dye. The box dye was done a year ago so it shouldn't have been an excuse. He ruined my hair and created patches of lighter color. There was hardly any change in my hair besides the texture being tougher. The photos speak for themselves. It was a botched job and a waste of my time. After his second attempt, the management should have verified it was done correctly however they left before he was finished again leaving it in someone hands who had no idea what he was doing. The main issue is that I was told by the stylist he would be able to lighten me exactly to how I showed him I wanted and he wasn't able to. He hardly made a difference. After my first visit they should have recommended I come back to get what I wanted however they pretended it was perfect and ignored the patches. Finally went to a new salon and they were shocked at how horrible my hair had come out and that I was not offered a refund. I've been going to Alter Salon since July 2018. I had moved to the area from Tennessee and needed a new hair lady. Needing a new hair lady - those words are so scary! I resorted to Yelp to weed out the bad eggs and stumbled about the rave reviews for Alter Salon. The first two times I went the owner, Monica, did my hair. I was pleased with her technique and the products she used. Monica's schedule and mine didn't mesh for my 3rd appointment so I booked with Jenna and have seen Jenna 3 or 4 times now. If Jenna is ever too busy to book me in the future, I would probably try to book with Emily or Megan. I get my roots done every 4 weeks...along with other services as needed. The salon is in a strip center and easy to get in and out of. The interior of the salon has a hip and cool vibe. They have the most amazing washing bowls! The stylists stand behind the bowl and it makes a huge difference in the rinsing process. Alter Salon's pricing is fair and they use the best of the best products. You can't go wrong with this salon. Every girl is a little skeptical when it comes to trying a new hair salon. I mean how could we not be? Our hair is one of the biggest features that make us! Walking I immediately was greeted at the sign in with the friendly receptionist Ryan. I filled out 2 papers since I was a new client. I loved the questions that were on the sheets such as "what is your thing you love most about your hair", and "what is your least favorite thing about your hair". Upon being taken to my seat I was given a gift bag with coupons and some other goodies! Everyone there was so friendly and easy to talk to. I went in a couple months ago for a cut. I had thick bangs done as well.. The time they came out amazing. My stylist took her time and really listened to what I wanted. Well, yesterday I went in for a bang trim and the woman who did it BUTCHERED my hair. My bangs came out awful! She spent a good 60 seconds on them. She asked me how I wanted them and I told her how as well as how the last stylist did them... scissors and razor and all that good stuff. Welp, this lady grabbed my bangs into a ponytail and chopped them. THAT. WAS. IT. They look awful! theyre no where near even and WAY shorter than what I wanted. I am so angry. I mean, you cant exactly cover up bangs that easily. Needless to say, I WILL NOT be coming back. By far one of my worst salon experiences. read more

My experience was wonderful nice location and staff very friendly, I followed by hair dresser who worked less than 10 min from me. Kayla started working in Belton which is 25 min but I love my hairstylists she talks to you before starting anything ,she so good with her experiences in hair color,cut . I would not recommend going to Alter if you are over 55 years old. They are unfriendly to seniors, act like they don't know how to carry on a friendly conversation. They double book clients and have "assistants" wash your hair to hurry you through. Snobby - you would think you were in Dallas, well you are not, poor excuse to call a Spa! I know, I know, all you other reviewers are going to hate me. I am so sorry about that, but I have to be honest: this was probably one of the laziest hair cuts I have ever had. I don't remember my hairstylist's name precisely so unfortunately I can't be helpful in that regard. However, I think --think-- it was Sabrina. It started with an S, so there ya go. I arrived early to my appointment and hunkered down to read some magazines. When I finally got in my hairstylists chair and told her what I was looking for, she seemed to understand and told me that she had an idea as far as what she would do. I did tell her that my previous haircut was done by an amateur and that it was not the greatest haircut. She took a look over my layers and confirmed that the layering had been done completely wrong and assured me that she was going to fix it. I also told her that my hair felt like it was in a bad state as there were many split ends and that I really wanted my hair to get back to be healthy. While she started to cut away at the horribly done layer job, I noticed that she was only hitting the top layer of my hair, bangs and whatnot. What she absolutely did NOT do, was trim the bottom and do anything to assist me with my split ends. SERIOUSLY. I KID YOU NOT. I am absolutely sure that she neglected the other parts of my hair that I wanted treated. She literally only took 10 minutes or so on the cutting part of my hair, a little more time on my bangs and that was it. Every other hair cut that I've ever had took ages on the cutting and this got me wondering. I remember specifically asking her if she had gotten to all my terrible split ends, and she said "you actually don't have that many". OH. Huh. Okay.... Consider me surprised. But hey, I can't see what's going on back there, so maybe she had gotten to my problem areas and I didn't know it. But here's the reality: I have never had a haircut in which the stylist DID NOT cut or trim the bottom/rest of my hair, regardless of how little I asked her to cut off. ALWAYS. So why not here? It just doesn't coincide with the other 75 plus haircuts I've had. It's a simple reality: trimming keeps the hair healthy and I've never not had that happen in a haircut. In fact, that's the whole point of most of my cuts. Next came the styling section of my appointment, which typically does not take very long with every other hair cut I've had, and yet this took FOREVER. I literally sat in that chair for another HOUR + while my hairstylist made me look like Dolly Parton. Pretty sure the long styling stage of getting your hair done is a Texan thing, because I left looking way overly styled just to go to the gym. Seriously? I paid $42 for a not-so-great hair cut and a styling that I did not need. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. When I was finally able to leave my appointment and take a look at my hair, I discovered that my hair had way more product in it than I put in a year, was way more volumized than I had use for at 7:30 PM, and was not trimmed so that my ends were healthier and my problem areas cleaned up. That in itself is -unacceptable-. I was so NOT impressed. While the haircut did not give me what I needed out of a cut, it did lighten my top layers and give me some short-term hair relief. At least until I can make it to a hairstylist that will take the time to cut my split ends. read more

I came to the salon as "hair model" for a free cut & color. They were offering free services so the store owner could observe her staff closely and put her input in. I had never been to this salon, but my coworker goes here so I gave it a shot. First of all, the staff are all very nice and welcoming. I have medium brunette hair and had started the process in July of getting balayage hair with light brown/blonde on the bottom. I wanted to continue that process going slightly lighter while still looking somewhat natural and color not so drastic on top so it wouldn't look so harsh when it grew out. I left much more blonde than I anticipated and it's more of a contrast in color than I would have preferred since my hair is naturally a medium brown. It's been almost 2 weeks and I'm still not entirely sure I like the color. I do love the cut though, she did great cleaning up my split ends while also keeping some of the length and giving my hair shape. I went in a week later for a brazilian wax since they were running specials with the soon to be grand re-opening. Once again, the staff was nice, but I won't be returning for their waxing services. The table itself had the roll paper you see at the doctor's office, which would have been fine for other waxing services, but a sheet would have been preferable especially when the waxing takes over an hour. I was sweating and stuck to the paper which then seemed to dissolved under me. Overall, my experiences with customer service were great, but the actual services were just ok. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great. While I do appreciate the free cut and color, I don't think I will be returning for future services. read more
