NEVER GOING BACK!!! After having my dress for four weeks she sent me home with a dress that wasn't finished / had cut straps held together with pins. She knew I needed the dress for a wedding when I brought it in and said she would have it done for me the week before (giving her a month to complete the work). When I went to pick it up on the day she said it would be done she said she hadn't hemmed it yet and had me wait an hour for it. I packed the dress without looking at it and realized when I got to the wedding the straps were cut and being held together with pins. I had to find a local tailor and pay a rush fee to get it fixed in a few hours. When I called her to tell her what happened she said if I came in with pictures she would refund me $20. Giving how much I paid to get them fixed in a rush this felt like such a slap in the face. read more

After searching for someone to hem my selvage jeans I found Gina's online. I should have read more into the reviews. I walked in with my Jeans in hand and cuffed up to the length that I wanted. Right away she wasn't happy that I had them cuffed. Then she continued to mark them shorter than I wanted. I told her that I wanted them a little longer as I wanted to cuff them or stack them. She then told me ok I'll add an inch. Upon leaving I told her to please save me the 5" of material on each leg for future repairs and she was just like yeah yeah ok. Upon picking up my jeans sure enough she never added the extra inch to the length and when I asked for the scraps she told me "oh you should have told me you wanted me to save them". I said I did! Oh well. Then got in my car and looked at the hem and they looked like a blind person hemmed them, not a professional. The hem is not even close to a straight line on both legs. I went to have hemmed a pair of linen pants. The house were the seamstresses worked was so packed with clothes and quite tight quarters. I paid for the hemming, it looks ok but never pressed the pants. It was years ago when pants were repaired the item was pressed and it was not so expensive. WOW, am I impressed with this place. Real-deal, old school alterations. I had purchased a suit a month or so ago, to prepare for interviews this coming spring/summer. I'm short, just under the 5' mark, so pants are ALWAYS way too long on me. I received a phone call Tuesday to interview for Friday. PANIC!!!! I NEVER GOT MY PANTS HEMMED!!!! They close promptly at 6pm, so Tuesday afternoon when I called it was too late to go. I went Wednesday at 4pm, and my pants were ready by Thursday at 4pm. 24 hours to perfectly hemmed pants for $12! I worked a 12 hour day on Thursday so I had the boy pick them up. The woman, Linda, said "Tell your girlfriend I wish her well on her interview." So sweet to think to say that - personable, friendly service. Note - cash only. It is directly across from the Deer Park pizza and has ample parking lot. My GPS originally took me further up the road to 7-11. If you're coming from DPA/231, it is almost immediately on Long Island Avenue. Would come here in a heartbeat. I called the day before and Gina was nothing but rude when I just wanted to know whether they still required appointments since that's what it says on the front door. (they don't) When I came in she was incredibly nasty and pushy, basically making it clear I was an inconvenience to her. I should have gone with my gut and taken my dress elsewhere. When I got my *BRAND NEW* dress back, there were stains and dirt on it in multiple places. I now have to take it to get professionally cleaned and they don't know if they'll be able to get whatever is on my dress out. I found Gina's through google once when I needed a dress altered and was in a pinch for time. This place is a rare find. They do excellent work they get the job done quickly and at fair prices. I had about 3 cocktail dresses at 3 separate times altered by Gina's since then. All three times I turned to Gina's because the wait time and prices at the dress shops where I purchased the dresses were to long and to expensive. Incredible job on my wedding dress ! First off the three women that work there are so kind and Gina is a true artist , she has an eye for tailoring and does everything by hand. I was so nervous about bringing my wedding dress to a tailor and couldn't have been more pleased to have gone to Gina! I was beyond thrilled with the way the dress came out and got a million compliments on how she tailored the train of the dress. I also went back and had my dress cut to a tea length after my wedding and was able to wear it on my honeymoon ! She did an amazing job cutting the dress shorter as well! My daughter had both her Sweet 16 gown and prom gown altered here a couple of years later, and we had great experiences both times. It's a little old-fashioned tailor shop, which can feel a little crowded at times, but I wouldn't go anywhere else. They do a great job. read more

Went in to get a simple maxi dress hemmed (single layer, no difficulties), but was super disappointed by the hem job. They did it quickly (in about an hour it was ready), but the hem stitching was not 100% straight and was a single stitch. For $25 I was expecting a lot more than a single stitch across the bottom. I went in because I wanted someone to do a nicer job than I could on my own sewing machine. Apparently they think it's foolish to want the nice stitching the original dress came with as opposed to this single stitch line. They do not have a more advanced sewing machine that has double stitch capabilities and if you want a double stitch, expect to pay $12 more for them to do two rows of single stitching. Also there was excess fabric from when the dress was cut sitting above the stitching (of course it's uneven and ragged). Overall, not pleased with my experience. read more

Ruined a $1000 Herve Leger dress w/o apology or offering to give the money back for the alteration job ($50) let alone offering to pay for the ruined dress when all I even wanted was an apology an the $50 back. Horrible arrogant attitude that the job was impossible. Ok then why didn't you tell me that in the first place. I would never leave something let alone a Leger thinking it would be less than a perfect outcome. Was supposed to take the perfectly symmetrical neckline in from a boat neck with sheer squares to a regular neckline. Look at the panels. They are not even at all. After three attempts they said it's the best they can do and if "she" can't fix it no one can when I said I want my money back to take it elsewhere to fix her terrible job. I'm the photo you will see at the top the non symmetrical areas. Then she said I don't understand I'm not a seamstress. I'm very upset and disappointed and I have pay now again for someone to fix this mess. read more

Just a heads up for anyone who is immunocompromised like me: Gina seems very nice and i'm sure her skills are great but unfortunately she said she would not wear a mask while working with me (regardless of me telling her I'm immunocompromised) and when I asked if she was vaccinated she told me that was personal information and did not say. Of COURSE nobody needs to disclose if they are vaccinated and of course nobody is required to get vaccinated, that is totally her right-- I respect everyone's choice to "vax or not to vax" and I DEFINITELY don't go around asking people where they land on the subject! But these are risky times and when someone is going to be up in my personal space pinning me into a dress with NO mask on... I think whether or not they are vaccinated is game changing variable. Most business owners I know want their customers to feel comfortable. All this to say I certainly hope that those who are choosing to NOT wear a mask while being so close to others ARE vaccinated out of the respect and concern for the safety of those around them, ESPECIALLY if they know that person is immunocompromised. It's common courtesy and can save a life. If you go here, I'm sure you'll get a great alteration but just know you might be taking a gamble in the health department. She didn't give me any reason to feel confidant it was safe. read more

What a phenomenal team. Not only are they such wonderfully sweet people, but they are so truly talented. When I went to them, my satin Jenny Yoo wedding dress was too big in quite a few places, and they reassured me, they'd be able to make the thing fit like a glove. The satin never looked pulled the way that it sometimes can, and the bustle! Oh... the bustle was beautiful. They also were able to attach a belt I brought to them with such precision that you'd never know that the dress didn't come with it. If you're looking for someone to fix your wedding dress look no further! She created the most gorgeous bustle for my dress I was blown away! You pay for quality. The shop is old and rustic and you feel like your in a time warp but I actually found that charming and all the ladies are very kind huge sweethearts. My dress is still in the shop but I have complete piece of mind and there is no doubt that the work will be perfect. I found gina's alterations on google and rushed to make an appointment to get my dress altered. I felt in the beginning that she was detailed oriented and did a great job explaining to me what she was going to do with my dress. I wish i wasn't so passive. I wanted the experts to make it perfect. I wish I did more research about dress alterations and sizing. When I picked up my dress it was still too big and her team / assistants didn't want to adjust it. The hem wasn't perfect. She basically took my 500.00 dollars plus tips and kicked me out. Quick service but I won't be going back. I originally called to make an appointment but was told I didn't need one. I went in about an hour after they opened and there were 2 women working. They said Gina is the only one who measures the dresses and to come back after 12:30. So I did but Gina was eating lunch and I stood around in my dress waiting for her to finish. I didn't like the lack of communication or her personality and had never seen someone just cut the fabric to length instead of pinning it. She didn't even address the fit of my dress on my upper body which ended up being loose. I got the dress back in a week which is great. Cost was $55. (Cash only btw and you must leave a deposit when droping it off). Well she did not do the correct hem but I had no idea at the time. And there was now no extra length in my dress to have them fold it over and do it over. I didn't have a good feeling from the place whenI first stepped in...I probably should have trusted my gut. read more

Perfect tailoring. Gina is not only a sweetheart but also the best you can find on long island. Brought my wedding dress in and got it trimmed and a bussel added. My dress has a lot of bead work and embroidery on it and she on the bottom it was scalloped. I didn't want to loose anything on the dress since it was so perfect as it was Gina was able to keep everything and even fixed some problem areas that was there from the manufacture. I have been to Gina's Alterations several times now. They are able to do the most difficult and intricate work that most other tailors cannot do. I recently had a bridesmaid's dress that was many sizes too large, and based on the cut of the dress, virtually unfixable. However, they were able to make it look normal :) They are kind and timely. DO NOT LEAVE A DRESS HERE! I left a bridesmaid dress for minor alterations and when I picked it up yesterday there were noticeable stains all down the front of the dress. I questioned both Gina and her associate as to what happened and they tried to blame it on a woman and her baby who had been standing nearby my dress just before I tried it on. When I told them to clean it, they responded that they are "not a dry cleaners." The dress, which I left there in perfect condition, was now stained and wrinkled. I told Gina I was upset by the condition in which they were returning the dress she told her associate to give me $10 off and to go to a cleaners and she walked away. They then told me they lost my ticket and didn't know what to charge me. All in all, they are disorganized, unprofessional, and rude.
