My wife had two pair of pants and was told by the greeter/cashier, "Why did you wait until the last minute to bring them in," She had just bought the the day before, did not need them for three days and there business ' name is "Alterations While You Wait." No need for that admonition from the cashier. A simple, "It is Prom time, we are backed up terribly and are unable to meet your deadline," would have been acceptable. I may return, but my wife took her pants back to the store and will wait 7-10 days and save $70.00 on alteration fees, and receive outstanding customer service. read more

Interesting . My pants( Taper and hem, removal of zippers) were dropped off on july 7 . It is now Sept 9. They never call you and no one seems to know what's going on in that shop . I went in a week after I dropped them off and he said" Oh I haven't reached them yet. " Oh I said very patiently , You said they would be done in a week ."No word for another week , went in as usual and met with a cat and mouse game . I'm patient and I wasn't demanding like it seemed everyone else needed a prom dress etc . Totally unprofessional .Like Everyone of us is a paying customer and we all have a number 1,2,3 . Address us accordingly in order .But last week I went in and asked for my jeans ,they couldn't find them , Said they were under a pile of forgotten clothes ( Maybe that's why it's sept) . And said maybe I just should spank him in front of customers .!!!For 1)unprofessional , 2) never again and word of mouth is a mFR , and 3 ) flirting with a customer in front of other clients , and 4 ) Don't work with a project which is clearly out of your scope of practice . I first came to this place after my blazer came back from the dry cleaner with the lining seams coming apart. I was looking for a quick fix and found Alterations While U Wait. When I brought my blazer in, Paul spread it out on the table and diagnosed how the seams came apart. Then he laid out all the possible ways it could be fixed, from the most expensive (pulling out all the lining and replacing it) down to quickly re-stitching. Since I needed it fast, that's the option we went with. It won't last forever, but it will get me through a couple wearings which is what I need! The repair was made in under 10 minutes and I was on my way, blazer in hand. I was really impressed by Paul's professionalism and willingness to work with me to find an option that would work for my budget and time frame. I had a great experience at Alterations While U Wait and hopefully a few tips in this review can help you as well! The TL:DR here is, absolutely use them for alterations. Great prices (CASH ONLY) and turnaround time was extremely fast. I called 3 other places and they all wanted 2x to 4x the cost to alter pant waist and wanted 2-4 weeks to do it. They do fantastic work and take pride in their craft. Full review: First and foremost, fantastic service! I had several pants that needed alterations and they got them in and done in 24 hours and they were exactly how I wanted them. They also guarantee their work, so if they make an alteration and you're not happy, they'll keep working it until you're happy. A few tips I have to make your experience as good as mine. First, be patient. This is a small shop with a lot of business, so just give them some grace because they don't have 10 people running around to mark things up. Second, always call them ahead. My understanding is Paul, the owner, is the one who is going to mark everything up, so call and make sure he is in first. Additionally, call before you go to pick your stuff up. Finally, this is a cash only place. In my experience they got everything ready and gave me a write up with the costs so I could be prepared when I came back. I submitted 2 pairs of uniform pants to be tapered and hemmed and one additional pair to have the crotch sewn shut. I didn't expect that they would be done the same day but ended up waiting a week. No problem...when I arrived at the shop, I was informed that they couldn't close the hole in the crotch on one pair, couldn't taper another so I only received one pair out of the three completed as ordered...for a grand total of $80.00!!! I asked the owner if it was usually that expensive to fix one pair and he stated "our work was guaranteed to be perfect" to justify the price so I payed and left. A week later, the ONE pair of pants I had altered had the hem completely come out while wearing them at work. 80 bucks for this??? What a JOKE. Never going back. Not acceptable. read more

Need a real tailor and artist and artisan all wrapped into one. This is the real deal. As an example, my wife found a dress for our daughters engagement party but the dress didn't come in her size. Knowing what a craftsman he is she bought the wrong size absolutely confident that he could essentially remake and resize the dress to a perfect fit. Long story short. The dress looked perfect. All the proportions were correct, all the bows and decorations were precise and the dress looked like it was custom made for her. It doesn't stop there. My experience was pretty different than many of the reviewers. He talked a pretty good game and they did okay on a couple projects, until I brought in an old cold weather jumpsuit that had the Velcro fasteners worn out. I was planning to change to a zipper, which I had bought, but the owner convinced me that he could replace the Velcro. He told me it would be around $60. More than I wanted to spend but okay. So I left and bought a roll of Velcro and eventually dropped off the jumpsuit. I had marked every piece of Velcro and labeled them Hook or barb. After I got home I noticed they had missed a half dozen or so pieces of Velcro, so I dropped it off again. Eventually I called (since they never called me) and was told it was finished. Showed up to pick it up during their posted hours and it's closed. Okay. Stopped by the next day during their posted hours, it's closed again. Third time I showed up later in the day and it's finally open. I looked at the jumpsuit and IT'S STILL MISSING THREE OR FOUR PIECES OF VELCRO. He says no problem, we'll fix it now, "While you wait." After about 40 minutes (yes), it's finally done. He tells me "Thirty eight dollars." I couldn't believe it, this project has now cost me $100! I never would have agreed to spend that much, plus all the time I spent driving over there to discover they were closed (I live on the west side). I won't be back. read more

Paul is the nicest guy ever. He also does top of the line work. Very detail oriented and spends lots of time with each customer. Just be prepared that if you take a dress in during prom or wedding season, that you will likely spend two hours in the waiting room EACH time you come. It's not the tailoring that takes so long, he only has a few special hours each day that he does formal wear, so everyone comes then. My daughter had a prom dress altered and we spent six hours (three visits) in the waiting room in total (it had to be readjusted the second time we came). this use to be my go to place, until recently I have had several pieces ruined 3 suites pants cut too short and blue jeans were done the same, I tried to suggest bringing in a sample of perfectly fitting pants but was told it was better to measure I guess someone forgot how to use a ruler properly. had a jacket sleave altered it seems as if it was literally ironed under and stitched. poor work at best currently trying to find a different place Lost hundreds of dollars in clothing. again, I was once very content when having work done in times past but not so much anymore. read more

I would absolutely recommend for wedding dress alterations! Paul saved my wedding when I had to find someone last minute to fix my wedding dress that had been mangled by another seamstress. They got me in the day I called and worked on my dress for two days, even staying till 10 PM one night! Paul worked on different solutions until my dress was exactly how I wanted it. He approached the task as an engineer would, even using a piece of fabric from a sash I was not using to add to the front. The seamstress that had messed up my dress told me I would need fabric tape to keep my straps on my shoulders. No I did not. Paul made it so they sat perfectly where they were supposed to. I danced all night and the straps stayed right in place. The staff at Alterations While U Wait was great to work with. I was very anxious as my wedding was in 3 days and the dress looked horrible when I arrived. But they assured me they would fix it and they did. Came to this place from the reviews that I read in yelp. I was very disappointed with the "work" they did to my dress. Or actually work they didn't do. All I needed was a simple sewing job. The man I spoke with said the woman in the back sewed it closed. At first glance I knew it looked bad. The best part is that the slacks were to my business suits that I needed the week after Thanksgiving and HE DELIVERED!! These guys are AMAZING! I can't say enough good things about them. I had a skirt and blazer I needed altered for an interview that was literally two days away. This was in the spring when everyone is busy for prom and wedding season! My local alterations place was swamped, so they recommended Alterations While U Wait. They were about 30 minutes away, but I was desperate. I called them up, and they were very friendly. They understood my situation, and although they were very busy as well, they were able to squeeze me in, and on top of that gave it top priority so they would have it ready the next day! I was THRILLED. When I got to the store, they were extremely friendly and welcoming. You could tell they love their job and customers. Very personable, even gave me some great advice for how to prepare for my interview. Now that's not all. I had decided in the short margin of time, that the job I was interviewing for was not for me. Because of this decision, I ended up NOT coming in for my outfit the next day, even though they probably busted their chops having to squeeze me in, AND making it first priority to have ready the next day. Being the procrastinator that I am, I ended up not answering any of their calls. They would leave voicemails, with the same happy, friendly tone. I let this drag on for THREE WHOLE MONTHS, right down they day before they would supposedly be getting rid of my outfit, which was more than understandable. I was embarrassed to go back, but the outfit wasn't cheap, and they had been nothing but gracious, with the upmost professionalism. I called ahead to make sure they still had it, and they said they did! They were nothing but kind throughout the whole service, not to mention they did an excellent job, and the skirt and blazer fit perfectly. I used these guys in the past and they were very polite & did good work at one point, but when they make a mistake and are accountable for the PROBLEM - BEWARE!!! Paul and his crew did a poor job measuring some pants and destroyed 2 pairs on brand new jeans! I gave them the opportunity to resolve the issue and when they were unable to fix the pants - he offered to follow his policy and "Buy the product from me and provide a full reimbursement for the mistake". I gave them 3 weeks to gather some funds and when the time came - Paul gave me a story about how he was short on funds and couldn't pay me back. He also informed me that I was behind a long list of people had owed money to. So, I was "just going to have to wait". What great customer service that is! So, I have followed up with them a few times now monthly and have finally be told by Paul - "he is not paying me back, tough luck". Paul and his staff were friendly and professional. I had pants and a shirt done. The shirt was a tricky fix, and while I loved everything else I just wasn't in love with the shirt. Paul offered me the option I have the shirt worked on more for no additional charge, or take out what we had done so I could return the shirt to the store.
