What are the main things that go wrong with alterations? 1) Takes too long 2) Items not ready on schedule or in a timely fashion 3) Pricing not transparent and 4) Work not done well. Rip N Stitch gets full marks on all of the above. I called on a weekend to see if I could get the sleeves of a suit jacket shortened by the following weekend. On the phone they said "We're scheduled out to Wednesday--should be no problem!" So I took the jacket in that day. It took about 2 minutes to get the sleeve pinned up. I was told because of the buttons it would be a little more than the standard price for sleeves, but $45 sounded fair and I appreciated knowing the price up front! They also said I could pick it up any time on Wednesday, no need to call ahead. Within about 10 minutes I was on my way with the claim ticket in hand. On Wednesday I picked up the jacket on my lunch break. As promised, it was ready and the price was $45 + tax. Finally, the work was done well. I have a jacket that fits perfectly, and you can't even tell it was ever altered. read more

This place was professional and convenient for me. I needed three pairs of pants taken down to make them longer. The wait time was fine, and the staff were nice. My primary complaint about this place is the price. I don't know what they charge for other services, but it was $18 for EACH pair of pants to simply let down the hem. That is astronomical. Two pairs of slim-fit corduroy jeans were shortened for $40. They look perfect. Also picked up a pair of pants I had previously dropped off for shortening, but had returned for a do-over because the workmanship was poor. This time, the stitching was done correctly at no additional charge. The owner was agreeable and pleasant about correcting the mistake, but no apology - or discount on the jeans - was offered. Still, I will continue to use this business because it's close to where I live (have to pay an Uber because I no longer drive), the outcome was satisfactory, and the owner was polite and reasonable. read more

It had been a few years since I last visited Rip N Stitch, just because I hadn't had a need. I had two pairs of my son's pants hemmed and they look great! Not only do the pants' hems look like they were done during manufacturing, but they fit perfectly now. The price was reasonable, and it only took a few days to complete. More importantly I felt very uncomfortable going to a tailor, I've never really been to a tailor and I had no idea what to expect but they made me very comfortable. I needed my rehearsal dinner dress taken in so I scheduled an appointment about 2-3 weeks ahead of the dinner. Everything with the initial fitting went well, he pinned the changes, I paid and we scheduled a pick up date. The pickup date was two days before the dinner. The morning of the pickup date he calls me to tell me that they can't do all of the requested changes because he was concerned it might damage the actual fabric and he offered a refund for that portion of the alterations. That part is all fine and dandy, but it was TWO DAYS before my event and the day of the pickup! I feel that first, he should have caught that and warned me off the possibility when he pinned it. Second, he should have started earlier than the day it was due to be picked up! I had no time to find a new dress and had to wear something that didn't fit well to my rehearsal dinner. I get that he didn't want to damage my dress and I appreciate that, but I felt it was unprofessional to wait so long to start and then leave me with no other options. read more

Lady charged me $17 for a broken zipper... Go somewhere else, not here. She charged me $25 bucks for altering my suit, but the unfriendly lady and the ridiculous zipper price is why I'll never go back to this place. read more

I took in some things for fairly simple alterations, including pants to hem the cuff and two white coats for work. When I picked them up today, the coats had been stitched from the sleeve cuffs, through the armpits, to the coat tail in one long stitch. Almost nothing was taken in and was completely different from the way the coat had been pinned. I was charged $50 for alteration of each coat (they originally cost less than $35 each) and $14 each pair of pants hemmed. I should have gone back to Kim Dao's. I ended up coming to this place because it was closer to home but I will be going back to Kim Dao's in the future. Much more care and quality at much much lower price. read more

I am posting this review on behalf of my sister who got married last weekend. I had a last minute emergency with my wedding dress (arriving from out of town just days before the wedding) and I could not have been happier with my experience at Rip 'n Stitch. They were not at all bothered by the short turnaround time and even stayed late to make extra changes that hadn't been anticipated (at no charge beyond the original quote, even though it was beyond the scope and I was prepared to pay more). Many of us have a calling in tech, business or creative-to sing, rap, write or dance. Mason of Rip n' Stitch has the gift of tailoring and his hands. I have several pairs of jeans that (for years) have been tattered and so worn that they basically needed throwing away. I can't get these jeans anywhere anymore but was in search of a good seamster/stress or tailor that could salvage them. I stumbled upon Mason at the Kenwood location. When I tell you he worked MAGIC on my jeans, please believe it! I was floored! He brought my jeans back to life. The tattered and worn areas are barely visible and blend in with the jean/s perfectly. To add to this, I'm pretty busy and couldn't get back up to him to grab my jeans in time (around his upcoming 2 week vacation) and when I did (come to pay him to begin the job) he had already done the job. Mind you, he advised that if I hadn't made it up to pre-pay for the job before he left, he would start on them when he returned. That, plus the great job he did won me over. He will always get my tailoring and alteration business. Highly recommend and worth every penny! read more

Went up to the location to have two patches sewn onto my garment, quoted me a price of 16 dollar and said it would take about 4 days. Got a call two days later from Meagan saying he couldn't sew them on because of the material the patches were made out of and that the needle kept breaking. Yes okay that's fine and all, appreciate the call, I go back to pick my belongings up and upon a visual inspection and with magnifying glass there was no sign that the patches were even attempted to be put on. No thread lines or punctures in material. So not sure in the reasoning for that. I went to Walmart and got some adhesive for clothing for 4 bucks.. read more

So here's the deal... I have taken jeans in once to have some small adjustments made and it was fine. But I just brought in a one-of-a-kind dress to have the double straps altered and they completely bungled the job. We brought it back in and they did an even WORSE job. This dress had several layers of fabric... the outer-most being very fragile and sheer. They decided to "fix" the straps the second time by sewing straight through all of the layers! You could see all of the stitching on the outside of the dress. Also, two of the four shoulder straps were twisted. The whole job was off center (they claimed it was that way when they got it), but I don't believe that for a second. They did offer to fix it a third time but I didn't trust them at that point, and they did give me a refund, but only after I demanded it. The man was rude and argumentative instead of being apologetic for ruining my late mother-in-law's gown. I'd never go back to this place. I rarely write reviews like this, but I have taken the dress to a specialist and she has told me that the damage is irreversible. So if my words can prevent just one person from having a special piece ruined, then I will have done my job. Not worth the risk! read more

I have not been to this location in some time, but see by the manager's comments in other reviews that they have worked on their customer service and price quoting system, which were both a bit iffy in the past. If you wanted rude silence while being measured, Ok, or a change in price, which happened twice to me, ok. However, 4 stars, because the work was always impeccable and quick. I had multiple pairs of jeans altered with the hem intact, a sundress with a ruffle (that I had cut off & they fixed, but first I was scolded for doing so,) and a winter coat's sleeves' shortened. For work quality alone I would go back & to know customer service & integrity in price quoting have been worked on, even better. read more

They can turn an off the rack suit into a $1000 custom suit and they can do it fast! I now want to take my whole wardrobe to them! Not impressed but was in a hurry. Bridesmaid Dress still fit big. Said I wanted it tight and could easily pinch about an inch on both sides. The hem was nicely done but could have used some thing to stop fraying at the bottom but it's a difficult dress material. The guy at the front desk and who fitted me was very nice and professional. This is a great place to go if you need to get a pair of jeans hemmed or have a couple of dresses altered. Prices are decent and I have always been satisfied with the quality of their work. So yeh pretty much what everyone has been saying is true, I read the reviews before and knew what could happen but I needed it done. They quote a much lower price usually $22-27 then hold your cloths ransom when the final price comes back as double.. I paid $58 to get my jacket back when I was quoted $22 originally. Cannot say enough bad things about this place. Took my MOH dress for my best friend's wedding here and was happy with my experience until I came back to pay. Upon leaving when I dropped the dress off initially, the lady said I'd receive a call with the estimate for the dress the following day. I received no phone call. I went in a week and a half later to pick up my dress and when I went to pay the man said it would be over $155 dollars.. for.. alterations. A bit of the length was taken off and a little on a top layer, that's it. $155... cost way more than the actual dress! I was so shocked and didn't want to make a scene in the place, I paid, and left near tears. I called afterward to ask why it was so much and the owner, I presume, was SO rude and lied saying he spoke with me on the phone after giving me the estimate and I signed off on it which NEVER HAPPENED. He proceeded to yell saying those are his prices and it took him three hours ON A MACHINE (not even by hand) so I was SOL. On top of that, when I got home and took the dress out of the cellophane wrapper, it smelled strongly of a marina and had some splotches on the inside where the bust is. Will never recommend this place to anyone. Everyone steer clear. I'm now out $155 for some basic tailoring I could have spent less than half the price on at another place. I brought in a show jacket for a riding competition that I have tomorrow and I brought it in a week before today and he just looked at the jacket today and it can't be fixed. Terrible customer service! The owner was rude to me and told me that she was unable to do what I asked. Then she changed her mind, but told me that if she messed it up, it wouldn't be her fault. I should have taken warning, but decided to go along with it since I was only getting about and inch taken in on the sides of a dress. I figured that a qualified seamstress couldn't mess that up! I wasn't getting any major alternations done and there was plenty of fabric to take in on the sides. After I picked up the dress after 3 days and tried it on, it didn't fit right and looked very boxy, so I took it to another alterations place on the West Side of Cincinnati. The woman at the second place told me that the lady at Rip N Stitch just didn't want to take the dress in the entire length of the seam because she didn't want to have to deal with taking in the lining- hence it turned out boxy. I assume that the owner of Rip N Stitch was just about as lazy as taking in my dress as she was with her manners!!! The nice lady at the second place also asked me how much it cost for Rip N Stitch to "take in" my dress. I told her that Rip N Stitch charged me $23. She couldn't believe it and informed me that not only was it not taken in completely or correctly, but that I was also overcharged. The second place would have done the entire job for $16! I will NEVER go to Rip N Stitch again. Don't be fooled by a fast turn around time. Rip N Stitch is a Rip off!!! You may be pleased to hear that your clothing will be "finished" faster than some other alterations shops , but you will be disappointed when they don't alter your clothes properly. read more

No problem. Showed up 2 days later not ready alsked me to wait 20 min while they "hastily" finished my shirt. It looked way to small when he brought it to me but after waiting 30 min I was late. Tried shirt on when I got home to find it was risen above the waist line in essence ruined. When I called he immediately knew why and claimed it was my fault? First off I didn't even have to say what was ruined he knew right away and then refused to do anything to right the Wrong claimed I pinned he shirt before I came in. Which is preposterous I'm a 34 single male I got to a Tailor for help I never pin anything. Before arriving. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

Awful customer service! After reading several posts online about experiences where this place ripped people off, I decided to take my chances because of the convenient location. I took in 3 cocktail dresses; 1 was hemmed, 1 was taken in, and 1 had snaps resewn. When I dropped them off, I got verbal pricing from the owner and wrote all of the prices down on the back of my ticket. When I went back to pick the dresses up, the shopkeeper wanted to charge me $25 over the prices I had been told. I refused to pay it, and showed her the prices on the ticket. She would not give me my dresses. I wanted to speak to the owner, but she was not there, so I told the shopkeeper I would be back the next day to see her. When I went back the next day, the owner was gone again and I was yelled at for arriving earlier than I told her I would. The shopkeeper repeated over and over that it was not her store and she could not give me my dresses at the prices I was originally told. I had no choice but to pay the extra $25 to get my dresses back. I am pretty sure they do this all the time, so avoid this place!!! read more
