Please don't use this firm for your legal advice. We debated for 2 sessions about child custody and finally came to agreement. The schedule that showed up in the judgment was a standard 50-50 split that wasn't even where we started our discussion. She left off $20k in assets from the list of assets which would have required that I pay an extra $7k to my ex (most of it were assets she was taking not mine). I asked them to change the judgment 7 different times and even though Lani assured me things were fixed ("I personally looked at it and it's fine"), those items still weren't accounted for on the judgment. She's very thin skinned. When you challenge her on her legal knowledge (which you will have to do a lot to get closer to fair), she will quote all her colloquia she goes to and her college, etc. rather than any actual knowledge of what happens in real divorces. Talk to a real attorney and they will contradict much of what she's telling you. She didn't know what the "B Key" items were, for instance. When you get a real judgment from a judge, you do an income and expense declaration and they calculate support from there and it's almost always below the standard amounts. She didn't know that and when I tried to educate her, she became defensive (you can tell because her chest gets really red) and condescending. Her advice is almost exclusively what the woman's lawyer would propose in negotiation. If you're the guy, you're essentially negotiating with your wife's attorney without the benefit of having one present. She will make sure your wife gets far more benefit of the doubt, ignore things that would be for your side, hide things that you need to know and she will meet with your wife secretly and not tell you, contrary to the mediation agreement. When we asked her to fix the issues, she would never admit they did anything wrong and she kept denying there was a problem. I had to produce their own documentation to show them what we had already agreed to and even then it took 3 more iterations to get the judgment close to corrected. But she refused to change the visitation schedule and started telling us she was going to charge us to fix her mistakes. So she doesn't do what you ask, doesn't put what you negotiated into the judgment and then threatens to charge you to fix her errors. We finally just left it the way it was with several errors including a serious problem with child custody that we're still fighting over today. read more

No one plans for divorce. You go into "forever" believing that it will happen accordingly. But when things don't work out for one reason or another, you just want someone there to hold your hand and walk you through the process. As tough as it is to separate two lives (and more with children), Lani and team were the calm in what could've been a really rough storm. My ex-husband and I were able to negotiate dissolution terms in an amicable and respectful fashion. Within a few meetings with Lani, and then a few short months for paperwork to process, things were done and filed with the courts. And we were able to move on to our new relationship as co-parents for our son. With one mediator to look out for the best interest of all parties involved, we were able to avoid the drawn out (and more expensive) process that could've happened if we each had our own attorney in a he-said she-said battle. I was able to get more information from an hour on the phone with my accountant and an hour consultation with a lawyer, than 3 months of sitting for hours with Lani. Lani comes across very nice; BUT, I highly recommend for those men out there that are the Respondent to make sure that your child support and spousal support have the proper "Court" guidelines. If you have multiple kids; make sure you have each kid broken down with proper ratio of child support. Her office did not do that! I had to go back to family court to address numerous disparities on this matter; so do your homework during this mediation process. Further, I felt her office did not advise me properly of the dangers of being put in Default as the Respondent; which her office will do. Beware of that one! Also, I highly recommend for the hard working individuals out there to have some kind of Gavron Warning put in your court order, if you go through mediation. Nothing worse than to see the other side barely working; while you are busting your tail. The Gavron Warning will accomplish that goal. I wish I could post a positive review. Back in June of 2017, I contacted Alternative Divorce Solutions for a resolution of my situation. They were extremely kind and helpful at our initial consultation, and I felt I would finally have some closure to a wholly traumatic experience. I paid $2000 in the hopes of a resolution, but I haven't heard a word since July. I emailed them in November to find out why I haven't heard anything, but I still sit at radio silence. I understand that divorce, particularly my own situation, is not without complication, but I can't even get an update at this point. I also requested that a different email address be utilized once we established contact, and that request was never accommodated. As someone whom conducts business of a sensitive nature myself, the last thing I wanted was to post this on a public forum, but I am at a loss as to how to get a response otherwise. All I want is what I paid for, which is a divorce. I did not use my real name or email, but please don't let that detract from how real this situation is- this is divorce, and I prefer my privacy. That doesn't change the lack of communication I've received about something I paid to have resolved. read more

After reading the reviews on Yelp, I called Alternative Divorce Solutions to review my divorce papers before I signed them because they had been drawn up by an attorney my ex hired. Even though my ex and I were amicable and crafted the papers together, I still wanted a professional looking out for my interests to review. Lani was great. She was even able to save me money because my ex-'s attorney had told us we had to fill out some forms regrading our retirement plans that were going to cost hundreds of dollars more and Lani knew these forms were not required. I dealt with Lani and her assistant/paralegal Malori and they were both extremely courteous, responsive and kind. I would recommend this firm to anyone who wants to settle their divorce outside of the court --it's way cheaper and everyone in this office is great.
