I was told to call Alternative Plumbing, by a young man named Todd, from Alexis Drain Cleaning in Toledo. I had called Todd's company, because I had a bit of water back-up in my floored basement, near my washer. (Note that I have not even used that washer for probably six months. Todd poked around inside the floor drain in the basement, and said he found some tree roots. He showed me a few little roots and some dark mud. (The soil outside is more orange). He told me to call Alternative Plumbing. A man came out (I believe the owners of the Company), and went to the basement. He said he would need to install a temporary sump-pump(as I had to go out-of-town the following week for a few days and, they would have to chop out some of the nice porcelain floor tiles to get a "temporary pump in." He said the cost would be $4,600.00 and then said he needed half the money immediately. I wrote him a check (he had done nothing), expecting him to come out the next day (between 12:00 and 3:00 as promised). He was supposed to come out today between 12:00 and 3:00 to install a temporary sump-pump. I was supposed to get a call before he came out by someone named Gabby. No one called. So I called their office at around 1:30. She said someone would be out. I asked when? She said soon. I asked what the owners name was and she said Gab. I had heard nothing at 3:00, so I called the office again. Gabby (the woman) said that he (Gab) was eating his lunch. (Since I was waiting for him to come, I did not have my lunch). I was not happy as they had caused me to loose half of my day - for nothing. It was very disrespectful for them to waste my valuable time. Around 3:30 two different men cam out: Garry and Don. They are now looking at the situation. (Don said he wasn't sure why he was sent, as he said he was a faucet guy). Don said he would try to help me It is now 4:09. UPDATE: Getting Better! The two gentlemen who ended up coming out at 3:30 (Garry and Bob) were actually a big help in getting a temporary sump-pump put in, and working to drain water away from my basement. Bob said they had been given a different time-range, than I had been told. This pump is only temporary, but they explained things, got the temporary pump-in and were courteous. I commend Garry and Bob. (The permanent sump-pump will go in later. I am praying that - that work is done with care, and quality in my tiled basement). I had some plumbing issues when I first purchased my home and called Alternative Plumbing for help. They sent out an estimator to look at my job and provide a quote. Everything was going smooth, the repair was scheduled and a different team (led by Don) came out to perform the service. They failed to run a gas line to my washer/dryer area, instead they installed a gas line to my electric stove. He insisted that it was my fault and wanted to charge me another $3000 dollars to fix his mistake. Luckily, there were rational people in the office that ultimately told him to complete the first job by installing a line to my dryer without additional charges. He did not want and seemed extremely upset over the decision. I wonder to myself how many times this has happened before. This is a good company with a few bad apples. Be careful! read more

Fantastic company!! Had a waterline leak from the main to the house. Got a few other quotes. Not only did they come out sooner than scheduled, but the quote beat all of the other quotes. Some will say, you get what you pay for: Let me tell you, not only was their quote the lowest, the knowledge and quality of work was second to none. They fixed the waterline in less than 8 hrs. Almost a year later, no leaks, no loss of water pressure, no issues at all. The owner is knowledgeable and friendly. They have all the necessary equipment to get the job done quickly and right the first time. The technicians are professional and friendly. I was charged $1966.50 for a water heater.They would not give me a estimate over the phone they told me they would let e know when they got there which I was not at home I had to be at work. My husband was home. By the time they where done the total was $1966.00 for a water heater! The department stores are charging between $400-600 for a water heater which does not take all that time to put one in. When questioned the office manager said it was due to covid for the price increase I felt it was price gouging. On top of that they charged 3% on top of that price for using a debit card her answer was we dont work for free. I called the owner the next day to resolve the matter He told me my hubby signed the papers the work was already done and I told him I was not happy. He was not willing to come to a compromize and this is the reasopn for my 1 star reveiw. read more

The guys who came out were great, even explained everything that was wrong in detail ended up only needing repairs instead of a new garbage disposal. I thought I had a sink leak but it was actually a bad kitchen faucet, they had all the supplies and a replacement in their truck. Honest, fast, thorough and decently priced. Our basement flooded due to our sewer lines begin messed up. I called alternative plumbing because of a recommendation from another plumber. They were very fast getting to my home, they arrived 30 mins after i made an appointment. Conor and Nolan were the 2 guys that came. Very professional and quick. They had to pull out the big guns, (as they said) to clear my drain. Within 3 hrs thwy had a very bad clogged drain completely cleared and open. I was referred to Alternative Plumbing when my plumber said he couldn't get to a broken pipe in our crawl space. I was impressed that they arrived fairly quickly (considering it was a weekend and they seemed busy with other frozen pipes). And the guy was able to fix the busted pipe and it didn't cost an arm and a leg! I was worried that it would cost a lot since it was a weekend and I wasn't sure how much broken pipe would be but the price seemed very reasonable to me. I've called some plumbing companies in the past who charge $50 just to come out and look at the problem. They were also willing to take care of the problem when the other plumber wouldn't. I will definitely call Alternative Plumbing in the future. read more

Alternative came out and developed a plan to fix my yard flooding and set a work date, then never showed. I called and they said the utilities people hadn't signed off but after I said they had been to my house they saw it marked in the notes as good to go so a second work date was set. Again they didn't show. I called again and was told the utilities didn't sign off. I remained them we spoke 2 weeks prior and sorted that out so they set up a third work date and told me they would make sure to be out since a clerical error caused the first 2 canceled appointments. Then the day before my third appointment they called to reschedule again saying the recent rain has put them back. My yard has standing water from 4 days again and water in my crawl but I guess that's not emergent enough. I canceled my job with them and they are refunding my deposit. Now I have to start over with a new company. read more

I called Alternative Plumbing in the morning with a possible plumbing problem. The woman who answered the phone was helpful and made an appointment for that day between 1:00pm-5:00pm. She stated that she would call when their technician Mark was on his way. She did call & it was earlier than anticipated which was a bonus. Mark arrived & was very professional and was able to figure out our problem. I have no reservations recommending them from my experience. read more

My mother called this place due to a sewer smell coming from the pipes. Alternative Plumbing came out the next day and informed my mom that it was fixed. It wasn't. My mother called and complained and they just pushed her off. They were scheduled to come out again between 12 and 5 and 20 minutes till 5 they called saying she needed to reschedule. She is rescheduling with a different company. In my opinion they ripped off a 70 year old lady for 200 dollars and will not fix the problem to begin with. read more

I strongly recommend not using Alternative Plumbing. We had them come out and replace a toilet seal. Typically a wax ring is used, but the Alternative Plumbing employee recommended a new product made of rubber. We accepted his recommendation. It took him less than 30 minutes to complete the work. The toilet seal should last over ten years, usually 25 years, but nine months later we noticed odor in the bathroom indicating that the seal had failed. We asked Alternative to return and replace the rubber seal with a wax ring but they refused unless we paid them. It would have taken a single employee less than 30 minutes to replace the part they had recommended, which should have lasted 25 years but lasted only nine months, but they would not do even that. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but Alternative would still not come out. read more

Long story short. I had used Alternative Plumbing before and they did a good job so I went with them again. Second time was not a charm. I have issues with the work they did (actually didn't do), but I paid my bill in full at the time of the service as I had agreed to do. I have tried to contact the owner and have left several messages for him. It has been 4 days and I have heard nothing. This speaks volumes to me as to the type of business this is. I really do not know how they maintain an "A" status with the BBB. Unless you like to feel cheated and frustrated I would spend your money elsewhere. read more

I'm writing this review for my mom's cousin. She doesn't have a smart phone or computer, but wanted to let everyone know how pleased she was with Alternative Plumbing Plus. She's been living with a basement full of water for nearly 2 wks. She was quoted a price of nearly $7000 to fix the problem. The other company said they had to come in with a backhoe and dig up her yard, to fix the problem. She is on a fixed income and doesn't have that kind of money. She looked in the phonebook and called Alternative Plumbing Plus. They came out right away and she said within an hour, they had unclogged her drain and her basement was already receding. All for under $400. It's sad to think that other companies would take advantage of an elderly widowed woman. Alternative Plumbing Plus took care of the problem quickly and more than fairly.
