I just attended ATMC recently for a 60-day program in Jan & Feb 2026. Completely restored me and changed my life for the better. I entered suffering with BIND ((Benzodiazepine Induced Neurological Dysfunction), the unfortunate result of taking routine anxiety medication for just a few short weeks in early October. It wrecked my brain and I was not functioning well in any capacity. Not sleeping, lost 30 lbs, very sick, pacing 14 hours a day. I can't say enough good things about ATMC! This place honestly changed my life. I have bipolar II disorder. Before coming to ATMC my meds had clunked out on me for almost 3 years and I was desperate to get help. I had been trying different medications and nothing was working. My depressive episodes got so severe to the point that I could no longer work. I knew that I needed to seek alternative help but did not know where to go. Every psychiatrist just kept upping or changing my medications and to no avail. I was tired of being a slave to psychotropics. My family found ATMC and when I was ready to go, they got me in immediately. This place is like no other. In the US, where it is common practice to be dependent on medication as an individual with bipolar disorder and to oftentimes be debilitated and unable to work, ATMC provided a completely different option for me! I strongly urge anyone considering ATMC to reconsider. I stayed only four days and was charged $17,000--an average of over $4,200 per night. My Care Manager assured me that, due to my short stay, I would only be charged for the nights I actually attended. Instead, they withheld my $11,000 deposit as well. The refund process for the remaining tens of thousands of dollars was delayed, fragmented, and unnecessarily stressful--raising serious questions about the solvency and reliability of the business. ATMC also refuses to accept debit or credit cards, which I believe is intentional to prevent customers from disputing charges once they realize that the promises made are not fulfilled. I suffer from hypersensitivity to all stimuli. For months leading up to my stay, I was assured the staff understood my situation, had helped others like me, and could help me too. None of that proved true. Instead, the environment only worsened my condition. Before and during intake, staff told me what I wanted to hear--offering false hope--but failed to deliver meaningful care. Instead of support, I was forced into exposure to painful stimuli that left me in excruciating distress for months afterward. I was also told I could leave at any time. But when the environment became unbearable and I told those in charge I wanted to leave, they refused. I was forced to stay another night, costing me an additional $2,500. By the time I left, I was on twice the medication I had hoped to taper off, just to manage the overstimulation I experienced there. Eight months later, I'm still on more medication than before I arrived. After I posted a review on Google, ATMC replied publicly that they "take all concerns seriously" and asked me to call them directly. They gave me their phone number, which I reluctantly called. The representative who answered said he would call right back. But no one returned my call. After weeks of waiting, I called again and finally spoke with a man named Mark. He sounded hurried, often cutting me off with "I understand" or "I see what you're getting at," rushing me through the conversation. He had to end the conversation early promising to call me back within 24 hours but never did. I only heard from him again after I contacted the program director myself and explained the situation. Nearly a week later--not 24 hours--he finally called. That call began with assurances about "taking responsibility" and making "everyone feel better," but it quickly shifted to deflection and blame. I explained repeatedly that while at ATMC I was in excruciating pain from the stimuli they forced me to endure, and that this was contrary to the assurances made prior to and during intake. His repeated refrain was that I "didn't give the program enough of a chance" and that I "needed more time to land." When I reminded him of his earlier assurances about accountability and improving his customers' feelings, he accused me of "twisting" his words. No remedy or resolution was ever offered but to pass my complaints on to a staff who have showed little regard to date. Admittedly, by that point my tone reflected my frustration and anger. But kind or harsh words alike seem to make no difference--ATMC will dismiss your concerns either way. Do not be misled by warm personalities or comforting promises. ATMC was a costly detour that left me worse off--both financially and medically--than before I arrived. If you find anything wrong with the program and voice your concerns, expect hollow assurances at best--and blame and criticism at worst. read more

My story is unique due to my professional background working in the industry of behavioral health and substance abuse. I have been struggling with spin the wheel on various addictions throughout most of my adult life starting with opiates (Percocet, oxycoden, ambian in 2006) to alcohol in 2018 and most recently tramadol and Kratom. I have managed to maintain a career in spite of my addictions always being the person who was willing to help others while never truly helping myself. Having spent the first part of my career in adolescent treatment, then psychiatric hospital, and most recently adult substance abuse with a holistic focus, I had a well rounded knowledge on treatment options in the industry. I also had a unique choice to chose how I would detox having usually done detox the harder way which is a quick 3-10 day rapid taper. I had always chosen outpatient as my go-to in order to survive and complete the basics so I could get on with my life. This was the first time I decided to truly immerse myself by checking into a residential level of care and work on the core issues and neurological deficiencies that have been driving my addictive behaviors most of my adult life. I chose ATMC because they were the most comprehensive program that addressed the diet (gluten, diary, caffeine, and sugar free) along with being all organic and environmentally toxic free. In addition, they have pioneered the most comprehensive amino acid protocols to support the body during withdrawals. Most programs do NOT include these protocols which are vital to rebuilding the brain. Everyday (M-F) I went to the detox shop where I would exercise 20-30 minutes, hot sauna for 1-2 hours, and participate in various spa services designed to further detox my body and align my energy. Services such as ionic foot bath, castor oil pack, magnesium lavender foot bath, glutathione nebulizer, colonic, IV vitamin infusions, acupuncture, massage, and reiki. I could schedule different services daily throughout the week to combat the detox symptoms I was feeling daily through out my taper. I need to take a moment and express that during this entire process I had the most amazing staff/healers that were not only there to uplift me and validate me... but they never treated myself or anyone there like an addict. I would never ever recommend this place. NEVER! I don't want this post to turn into a rant so if you want to know more you can message me. I'm writing this so someone else can get information- things we wish we'd known before going down this path. In short- my partner was here because he'd already come off his meds and was going through protracted withdrawal. They promised they could help but the truth is if you've already gone off your meds, they can't help you. (Go to survivingantidepressants.org for more support. They know more than this place does. If you're considering going off your meds, just go super slow and research beforehand. Sitting in a sauna won't help with the damage meds can cause. Survivingantidepressants has more info on where to start with that too) So, They actually put him on Ativan when he arrived because his withdrawal symptoms were so bad. Ironic for a place called "alternative to meds". Nearly every day we regret his decision to come here because now he's stuck slowly tapering off a benzo they got him on. The staff are poorly trained and the way they interact with the residents is APPALLING. Of course the people who come here are struggling and not at their best, but when I think about the drama they caused and the way they interacted with my partner, I feel sick to my stomach. The one exception to this was John. I have a lot of respect and gratitude for the kindness he showed us. (My partner liked Nick at the detox shop too). The facilities are drab and depressing. This is a business. They want your money and will tell you anything to get you to show up. If you suspect you have akathesia DO NOT GO HERE. there are support groups on Facebook and I wish we'd known before we spent thousands of dollars at this awful place. They don't understand akathesia even though they told us they did. Meds can do a lot to your brain and this place thinks getting healthy and taking supplements will help. I would've thought the same before going through this nightmare with my partner but if your system is destabilized, the supplements will make things worse. My partner got worse and worse while he was here from the stressful environment or the supplements. The minute he came home and quit the supplements he improved SO much. About 7 years ago, I went there frankly because I had stopped the "medications," couldn't sleep and wanted relief for the agony of withdrawal. Brain and nerve damage caused by those drugs takes a very long time to heal, and so does the PTSD that was hampered while taking them and created by the system in the first place. I had made a 5,000.0 deposit and was prepared to pay the remaining 35,000.00 for the one month I was to be there. I wasn't able to sleep very long during the early stages of my recovery, and I'm not yet completely recovered, I still feel the pulling in my head because of the drugs I was prescribed for most of my adult life, and that is due to the anxiety and memories that come back over and over again... and the physical damage those prescriptions caused. In fact they couldn't help me, though they do provide a gut health diet, etc, detox treatments of various varieties, trips to the mountains, blood tests and local clinics, therapy talks, etc... but it wasn't at all run by professionals who knew what they were doing I recall, nor had the patience or maturity or knowledge to help me or likely most anyone else. One month, two months and 80,000.00 poorer (it's likely much more expensive now) won't fix brain damage and PTSD, and they're referral service at least back then was pathetic. I was here in January of 2018 after my parents researched treatment centers when my depression resurfaced. I was in a really bad place, and while the doctors and staff told me and my parents that they could fix my issues with vitamins and detox therapy I was both open but skeptical of the process as their entire approach is based on sitting in a sauna and rising early to eat organic vegetables and the occasional scoop of goat cheese. I was not on the right medication at the time and had very bad symptoms of depression and anxiety, and instead of actually helping me with proven methods that work (as I found out later when I conquered my depression without their help) a staff member (nurse) called me a drug addict and told me I just wanted to "get stoned" after requesting anxiety medication when I had debilitating anxiety attacks that left me rolling on the floor and crying in agony. This facility costs nearly $26,000 for a 6 week period. The method of treatment is visits to their lukewarm sauna, 10 minute elliptical runs, gluten free and frankly bland meals, vitamins they buy in bulk from costco or some other cheap avenue, bad massages, acupuncture, and you have to share a small room in a one-story house they converted into a "treatment home" with zero opportunity for privacy. Oh, and smoothies. Lots of smoothies. If you try to leave, they will tell you that they will hospitalize you if you don't undergo the course of treatment. They control every aspect of your life when you are there and you are not allowed to have anything that is considered non-organic or unnatural by their standards (even hand sanitizer), and they do not allow you to purchase anything at the store that they do not explicitly approve and check. I felt extremely isolated and cut off from people when I was there. The only nice and polite member of their staff is John. He was very sweet and sat with me when I had panic attacks. Unfortunately he is not a nurse or a doctor and couldn't do that much to help, but that isn't his fault. When my parents heard I was doing worse than when I got there after a little more than a week, they requested a refund but only received a small portion of their payment back. Our insurance was denied. One of the nurses said I needed "more care than they could provide". Yeah, no shit - because they didn't provide anything tangible or helpful. The attitude at ATMC is all about patients. I was given respect and freedom to do the the things that were important to me.(Exercise,12 step meetings,contact with family and the office).The staff is friendly ,informed and helpful. Councilors and Drs. very clear and understanding. There is a heavy emphasis on nutrition and supplements as well as detoxification of your body. Exercise and serious sauna 5 days a week ,then hikes and activities on weekends and nights. They also have a personal trainer for the gym. Sedona is gorgeous. When I arrived at ATMC I felt such a sense of relief. After several years of going on and off of 6 different anti-depressant medications and a hospitalization only to end up worse than when I started, I felt like somebody finally understood what I had been going through. I felt hopeful that I could get off the medications and get on with my life. I threw myself into everything offered for my recovery, the detox shop, classes, groups. I worked hard and I was able to taper off of 2 medications in 5 weeks. The entire staff at ATMC are supportive and caring, especially the staff at the detox shop. John the program director is one of the nicest persons I have ever met. He led informative morning meetings on mindfulness and strategies on how we can handle symptoms related to our taper. He always had a smile on his face and was there to support you in any way he could. The nurses were always very caring and checked up on how I was doing. The other powerful element of my experience there was being with my fellow residents who had gone through similar struggles as I with medications. I was truly inspired by them as I saw them work hard and a new life come into their faces. And living in Sedona for 2 months in itself was a healing experience!!! Due to Covid we weren't able to get out and do things much but there was always a hike or some other activity available. I left there feeling like I had my live back and I could move on. Where I feel ATMC dropped the ball with me was their discharge planning and follow up. Basically my discharge planning consisted of signing some papers as my husband waited in the car to take me home. About 1 1/2 to 2 weeks after I left I began to experience intense and distressing physical symptoms. Not being sure about what was going on with me I reached out to ATMC hoping to have a conversation with someone about what was happening. That just never happened. Several of the staff members tried to help me make that connection but I felt like the door was slammed in my face. You're not here so we can't help you. Not having my safety net in place I floundered to try to make the right connection with the right people who would understand what was going on and my desire to remain medication free. I finally found the right person who told me I had probably tapered too quickly and I was having protracted withdrawal symptoms. I feel that if ATMC would have taken some accountability and responsibility for what was happening to me post taper I might have been able to have an early intervention. I received one follow up call before my symptoms started but none after that. I worked in the healthcare field as a nurse and we always checked up on our patients after discharge. In this situation you take people off of powerful psychotropic medications and send them on their way with no sense of responsibility for what happens as a result of the actions taken at your facility. 2 months later I am still suffering protracted withdrawal symptoms. However, I would still recommend ATMC if you are trying to get off of medications. Just make sure you have a solid plan for discharge. Have all your connections made before you leave. It's been two months since I left ATMC, and its impact remains so powerful. My time there allowed for a major shift in how I view health and life. Life is really not that easy to predict. Maybe it's like trying to hit a curveball thrown by Sandy Koufax in 1959. In 2010, I was diagnosed with Schizo Affective disorder. It lead to many problems, even physically and spiritually. To tell you the truth I'm sitting here staring at the screen thinking whether or not I should go deeper into my past. II owe my LIFE TO The Alternative to Meds Center. 4 years ago, I was extremely sick with my numerous health issues and on several different medications. I sat down to look for help online and after praying over and over to find a place to go, ATMC was the 2nd place that came up. I knew immediately that THIS was where I had to go. I was reluctant to leave Virginia, but my intuition assured me that this was who could save my life. Within a week, I found myself in Sedona. I have struggled with alcoholism, and addiction, and mental illness my entire life. I had never gone away to a treatment facility before and I was TERRIFIED and having severe adverse reactions to my medications. I was immediately surrounded by the most unique, loving, compassionate people I've ever met. I was in a beautiful resort style spacious home at the base of thunder mountain. The facility was clean, neat and easily accessible and they even had a pool, hot tub and steam room all on the property. There are also peaceful landscapes for meditating and resting. The kitchen is open in the middle of the house so we can see our AMAZING organic food being prepared. (This is the BEST food I've EVER had btw) I learned so much about my diet and how using herbs and supplements and living a clean, healthy lifestyle, I can FINALLY manage my mental health problems and live a happy fulfilled life. Alternative to Meds was a bad experience for me. The program demands copious amounts of herbal medicine along with hours of steam room. The residence building is old but clean. However, the rooms have no way to summon help if needed--no phone, intercom, bell, nothing. If you get really sick or fall, you will lie there until someone finds you by accident. There are no scheduled checkups. If you miss a meal it's no big deal. I laid in my bed for six hours past breakfast before someone found me. They claim to have 24 hour medical, but that consists of daytime nursing only and one doctor who is hard to reach and they need his okay to do much of anything. If you need help at night you are out of luck. One of the overnight desk staff sleeps at the desk all night so you have cross the residence to wake her up. Even then, all that can be offered is more herbal meds or a prescription (if the pharmacy is open at night). I did get off of my Effexor, but the staff was unable to handle the side effects. Uncontrollable anger was my biggest reaction. Half of the staff told me to go ahead and be angry while the other half punished me for it. Eventually I was thrown out (which to tell the truth, was a relief). I'm now stable and as happy as a person in a pandemic can be. I have wonderful mental health and physical doctors who work as a team to treat me. Alt to Meds was a nightmare and I don't recommend it to anyone. read more

This place gave me my life back. The staff treat you with the upmost care and respect and not only give you the proper natural supplements to balance your brain and body chemicals, but they also educate you on what they do and how it helps. I was on a very high level of Depakote and Zyprexa a few years ago after leaving the hospital. My vitality was robbed from me, my hair was falling out, and I had no emotion towards anything and everything.... I was a zombie. When my mother found the ATMC website it turned out to be a godsend. I started experiencing intense migraines at age 17. I visited various neurologists in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Tokyo, and Seoul to determine the cause and get relief from the pain. One after another, these doctors prescribed "anti-migraine" medications, which were, in fact, psyche meds prescribed for off-label purposes. Over the course of 27 years, I allowed myself to become a guinea pig for neurologists to experiment on; I've used over 70 medications in sundry classes of drugs - opiates, anticonvulsants, SSRI's, anti-psychotics, anti-anxiety meds, bi-polar meds, and antidepressants to name a few. As my medication intake increased, so did my psychotic symptoms. Before I knew it, I was diagnosed bi-polar and institutionalized for six months. At that time I was taking nine psyche meds: Klonopin, Ativan, Trazodone, Depakote, Cymbalta, Lithium, Propranolol, Buspar, and Ambien. Most of these I was taking at the highest dose legally prescribable. Needless to say, my life was an unmanageable living hell; I overdosed multiple times and was rushed to the ER on numerous occasions because of complications arising from the side effects of these drugs. I reached a point where I knew my life was at risk. Perhaps I was being overly dramatic, but one evening I told my wife and kids that I had two weeks left to live; certainly, I didn't want to continue living in those circumstances. I knew I needed to get off my meds and get off them fast. After contacting numerous facilities and detox centers around the world, I felt that ATMC would not only help me get off the drugs naturally, they would also provide me with the biological and psychological support necessary to deal with the tumult I would experience once I got off the medications. I came here a year ago this month. I was shaking so badly at the time that I had trouble even feeding myself. Hello. Before coming to ATMC, I was mis-diagnosed with Paranoia Schizophrenia and was forced to take the antipsychotic drug Abilify. My psychiatrist told me I would have to take this drug for the rest of my life. He did not tell me this when he put me on this death drug. I didn't know what to do, so I tried to taper off myself. I tried twice and slipped Ito psychosis and had to go up on the medication. I even tried a third time under the care of an integrative psychiatrist and slipped into psychosis again. Confused, I thought I would be on this death drug that made me gain 50+ pounds, made me a zombie, and imprisoned my mind my whole life, and I lost hope. Because I am very into health and wellness, I cried to my mom to find me a holistic alternative center that tapers people off of antipsychotic medication. Miraculously, she found a center located in Sedona, Arizona called Alternative to Meds Center. Let me tell you; this place saved my life, and they were able to successfully taper me off of the antipsychotic drug. I am medication free! I am crying writing this right now because I am so grateful ATMC was able to save my life. As for my time there, I stayed as a resident for a few months. EVERYONE there (residents/staff) made me feel welcomed.The week days consist of taking supplements and detoxing in the sauna. The weekends consist of outings and hikes. This is a one of a kind treatment facility that truly helps patients withdraw from drugs with methods that help the patient remain comfortable while tapering. I have a family member who went here after 10 or so other "good" facilities did nothing but make the problem worse. So called modern medicine does not know how to deal with this problem. The experience (and results) that my son had at ATMC was beyond expectations. It really is a special place with wonderful people who are truly inspiring and clearly inspired by helping and healing others. The 'outside the box' thinking from Lyle (founder) and the wonderful staff he has assembled is absolutely refreshing and truly cutting edge. My exposure to ATMC started over the phone with Isaac who was so gracious, supportive and generous with his time; he set the table for what ending up being a life saving and life changing experience for my son. During our due diligence process, Lyle also took time out of his extremely busy schedule to not only speak with my wife and I but also spent time on a conference call with our son's N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor). When I traveled with my son to ATMC to drop him off for his stay, any fears or concerns that I might have had were quickly alleviated when I took a tour of the facility and met with the staff and medical team. During my son's intake meeting with the entire medical team, they were collaborative, inquisitive, supportive, reassuring and quite confident (without making any promises) that they were going to be able to help/heal my son. They absolutely, unequivocally delivered on their beliefs; they literally saved my son's life and for that, he and his family are truly thankful that we found ATMC. I cannot give this review without mentioning my son's care manager, Charlie. He was supportive and caring and went out of his way to keep my wife and I informed on a weekly basis as to the progress of our son's health. It is clear to me that Charlie is in this business because he genuinely wants to help people get their lives and health back. He also helped my son regain the confidence and self-esteem that were stripped by his sickness. I went into ATMC deep into a drug addiction and in daily mental anguish. I was scared as can be but was kindly greeted by staff and residents. They made me feel at home, were open to hearing my struggles and were always there help me work on myself. I had a shared room with two other females, but still had my own space. It was a great atmosphere with plenty of room for my things, a nice bathroom and closet. The nutritional aspect was tough for me as I was used to fried foods, gluten, dairy, sugar ect. so I was not used to all the dietary restrictions. Therefore it took me a minute to get used to the meals, however I saw and felt my body change for the better almost immediately. Through the daily therapy groups, personal sessions, and different outings I started to grow and improve. The week days were filled with the detox shop (massage, adjunct therapy, sauna work and supplements) and different groups occurring throughout the day so by the end of the day you were tired and ready to sleep. On the weekends we would go on outings like hiking, bowling and would usually make it to the spa on sunday mornings where we could relax. The amount of information about my health, relapse prevention, diet, and mentality in general I received was phenomenal. I owe my 2nd chance at life to Alternative to Meds. Without all of these aspects I don't think I would feel how I feel today, which is GREAT! read more

ATMC told my friend Tempura that they could help her get off Seroquel and Trazodone. However, they lowered her dose way to fast and when she started heavily withdrawing, they hired a Catholic Priest thinking she had a demon in her! They were completely unaware of the typical symptoms related to withdrawal, and thats when I got a call that they had made a discussion to kick her out, mid withdrawal with no where to go. They refused to give her money back, so she could get the care she needs. They dropped her off in my care and did not tell me the state she was in, the medicine she was on, or anything that happened and I am a former resident that was only released from ATMC 3 months ago. she needed to be put in a higher care facility and it was WAYYY out of line to put her in my care when I am just getting on my feet. I was up with her for days trying to help her and take her to the hospital. I talked to Spectrum healthcare at the hospital, and the guy had to walk out of the hospital room, he was so upset, when he found out it was ANOTHER patient ATMC sent to them. He said ATMC takes people all the time they can't help, and keeps all there money. He called the center and came back in the room saying that ATMC was not going to give her her money back like we hoped. Since then, she has been in limbo, homeless, and going to public mental health centers. she has spent 30,000 dollars to get off 300 mg of saraquel and now is back on a higher dose, and none of the money she payed helped. ATMC refused to talk to me and told me to call the cops on her, or throw her in a mental hospital. She is in a mental hospital now, but they can only keep her for a few days, and then they ship her out to another one, going from doctor to doctor having her medicines and doses switched around and still unable to sleep. She could go home and have the care that she needs, if ATMC hadn't kicked her out in a fragile place and taken allll of her money. This place is for people who are can mostly take care of themselves, but they are not equipped to help anyone in serious need, so BEWARE. read more

I came to ATMC with a lot of ruminating thoughts as well as anxiety and insomnia. I didn't want to go on medication for it so I came here instead. Was it hard? Yes very much so. I had to work really hard and face my demons to get myself out of the situation. I still have a ways to go but I was able to get the tools I needed to do so from ATMC. The staff here are phenomenal. If you are thinking of coming off medications or just don't want to go onto them in the first place I would highly suggest this program. read more

This was perhaps one of the worst experiences of my life. I went to ATMC with incredible hopes of getting well. I went there having to take no regular daily meds. As soon as I got there they started pumping me full of vitamins, thousands of times more than the government RDA. I went from sleeping 6 hours a night to 1-2 hours a night. The vitamin regiment is not nearly tailored to the individual and they give everyone basically the same number of vitamins. The detox shop was yet another place to get tons of more vitamins in the hopes you'd sweat it out in the 1-2 hour daily sauna. After about 10 days of this I nearly lost it and then they started me in on the meds, general psychiatric meds. By the time I left ATMC I was on 4 daily prescription meds and it turned out to be an absolute nightmare. John C. is a light that works there. However, this was the most ineffective waist of money I ever spent. I am now out $25,000 and am trying to recover now from the trauma now that I am home from all that went on there. Please do your homework before you go and check it out in person. 3 people left right in the middle of their stay while I was there, so I was not the only one whom this program did not work for. I would never have never gone had I known what would have happened there. read more

My family member came back worse off. There were many mishaps. We do not feel that test results that were provided were considered. Also unprofessional actions of some staff members were unfortunate and damaging. Some staff members were good as was the facility and the food, but it ended up being a terrible outcome for our family. read more

Alternative to Meds In Sedona saved my life. I had been prescribed a benzodiazepine which my doctor told me was safe to take for the long term period for which he prescribed it. When my health was deteriorating at an alarming rate, I told my healthcare provider that I wanted to get off of the medication. He said that since I took such a small amount and did not have an addictive personality, that I could discontinue it at my own pace. He failed to warn me that the horrific symptoms that I was having, were withdrawals from the drug. I almost died. After walking straight through hell, I finally got myself down to .25 mg. But, I could not go any farther alone as I was suffering horribly. I could not sleep, I had syncope, my digestion stopped, I had visual disturbances, my nerves felt as if they were on fire, I felt that life was hopeless while suffering numerous other symptoms. I was not sure if I would make it. But, then I found ATMC. It was there that I found compassionate care in a safe environment where I was not forced to accept other drugs that could have been as dangerous. Intake coordinator engaged in pressure tactics, with threats of the inability to get space if we did not book space immediately. She responded to all my text and voicemails, but once the money was submitted to ensure space, she would not return respond to my efforts at contacting her. My son was there for less than two weeks before they reduced his medication. He quickly decompensated into psychosis and it appears as though no one there knew what to do. He began to self-harm while there. I expressed my concerns about them sending him home - across country by himself in a decompensated state, but I was told that he had been cleared by doctors ATMC. I met him at the airport, in a state of psychosis with approximately thirty self-inflicted wounds around his left wrist. How the injuries were overlooked is beyond me. He returned in a far worse state than he had arrived in. We were hopeful that their website claims to help were not just words, but they were. The 37,000 for the one month stay would have been money well spent, had the outcome been a little better. read more

I came to Alternative to Meds Center to get off Xanax and Suboxone. Before ATMC I tried several locations and with no success. The approach was very customized and I was able to achieve my goals and I am now medication free. I loved the fact that the Medical team had an opened mind and never told me what to do but instead included me in every decision that was made about my care. I also was able to address my Thyroid and my Crohn's Disease why I was there also. I came to the Alternative to Meds Center after struggling with severe depression, self injurious behavior, and suicidal tendencies. One of the first things about the center that struck me was the kind and caring nature of the staff. I was also impressed by the wealth of knowledge they possessed. During my stay at the center, I never once lacked someone to talk to when I needed support. After a few weeks, I came off of my medication with no withdrawals whatsoever, and I am now feeling much better off of the medication than I did on it. I spent 2 months at ATMC, and left significantly worse off than when I arrived. This was in large part due to being backed into by a former patient who was staying in the transitional housing and had been asked to follow me in ATMC's 11-seater van so that I could drop off my rental car. I found out from staff that this individual had been behaving strangely for a couple of weeks before the accident, and she ended up having a complete psychotic break and coming back into treatment a couple of weeks later. I experienced severe whiplash among other things and basically paid for a place to recuperate from the accident their negligence caused. I take responsibility for this stupid decision to stay; however, ATMC was NOT very accommodating in many ways despite this having happened the afternoon I arrived. Apparently it was much more well run and effective before losing its previous psychiatrist/medical director. Now it's a sham. The food is definitely not all organic or healthy--lots of evaporated cane juice in the breads that they served. They ran no tests other than a basic bloodwork until I requested they run a saliva cortisol and hormone test, which showed significant adrenal issues, about which they did nothing. They completely ignored all of the genetic information I sent in beforehand and insisted that doing a heavy metal chelation would be safe and appropriate. Since being home I have been tested and diagnosed with Candida, severe adrenal fatigue, leaky gut, and severe nutritional deficiencies. Two functional medicine doctors and a naturopath have assured me that my genetic mutations would have made any chelation attempts a complete disaster (luckily I knew enough not to do it). Note: there is no psychiatrist on staff, just an internist and a naturopath, despite claims to the contrary. Do not believe what you read on the website! I would post real photos from the place but don't want to open my entire photo stream to Yelp! Just know that it is old and dirty and the screens are all broken. The only consistently positive experiences I had were with Dr Julie, the head therapist. I almost wish she had not been so good-- I may have left much sooner than I did. And unfortunately the people I am in contact with who were patients at the same time as I ended up in the hospital shortly after leaving or have gone back in for treatment at other locations. read more
