ALTRES seems to put a lot of the communication work onto the job applicants. Instead of the recruiters trying to contact you, you will get an automated email telling you to call them. The company seemingly expects the applicants to keep initiating contact. Whenever I apply for jobs at this company, I feel like a number, not an actual human being who's looking for a job. I also feel like ALTRES seems to think that it's doing a favor to job applicants and seems to have no issues with giving applicants tons of work to do (e.g. tests, video) before you're even considered for a position. I have been with Altres since the beginning of November 2016. I did all the tests and passed with high scores. I got the references they wanted. Since completing my part of the Altres system, I have not gotten one phone call or email about any job openings or potential positions. I have called my employment counselor, Roxanne K., several times but I haven't heard anything back. Needless to say, my experience with Altres has been less than stellar. I guess it's time to look for another agency. I would give this company zero stars if I could. What a bad ending to what seemed like a great combination. read more

Altres is a great staffing company. I started working with Lisa on finding a job and after couple of days, I had a job lined up. I work with clerical/admin department . You must know though that I do temporary jobs, so I go wherever I'm needed. It's been a great experience. I've worked in several different environments meeting new people all the time. I've learned a lot and now I'm at the company that might consider hiring me permanent. If you decide to work with Altres, remember to be professional at all times and communicate with both sides, Altres and the other workplace. Be reliable, honest with yourself and Altres. Horrible!!! They sometimes call you back asking for further information on a job you apply for, but after that...NOTHING. They only find you work if you have experience and you need to have a good amount of it at the very least to even be considered for a position. So, if you are someone with not much on your resume, do not even bother with them. You are better off checking out other staffing places as I have certainly gotten work with the others on the island over them. IMO, Highly avoid this place as they did absolutely nothing to help me career wise. read more

I have worked with staffing agencies as both someone looking for work and as someone looking for personnel, and out of all my experiences, with agencies across the country, I have to say ALTRES has been the easiest most pleasant experience of them all. Not sure what the people that rated it so low were expecting, miracles maybe? Perhaps they're unaware of how the temp to hire world works? As with any agency, the amount of positions available is usually drastically less than the amount of applicants to chose from. You can't just turn in an application, attend one interview and expect them to find you a job on the spot. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right fit, sometimes you have to take the initiative and reach out to the agency to remind them and show them that you are actively interested in work. It sounds like several people here thought that once you signed up with ALTRES a job would be magically handed to you. It's very likely that they have several other candidates vying for the same position you're looking to fill, like the saying goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. But I digress. I submitted my application on-line and was called in the following day for an interview. I completed their online testing, their personality test, and sat through their video that laid out what is expected of an ALTRES employee. Some people may have found this tedious and redundant, but it's a necessary evil that every staffing agency I've ever worked with puts new recruits through. I met with Lisa K. and she made the whole interviewing process painless and rather enjoyable. She mentioned that day that she had something she thought I'd be a good fit for, and would submit my resume to her client for their approval. She asked that I call back the following day to follow up. I called at 9am the next morning and was told that her client liked my resume and wanted me to start the following day. As I mentioned before, working with a staffing agency is a give and take relationship, you only get out of it what you put into it, you gotta make the effort. That was back in February 2014, and I've been working steadily with ALTRES ever since. Whether it's with their sister company SimplicityHR or one of the several hundreds of business that use their services, Lisa has worked hard finding me steady work that fits my schedule. This is for the office side. My experience with Altres has been a huge joke. I submitted my resume and applied for an office manager position. I immediately received an automated phone call and email to begin the application process for that position. This required me to take an initial 3 online tests assessing my office skills and to fill in another application (I already did that...that's how they got my information in the first place). I passed and then was instructed to schedule an interview and take another online test before I showed up. I show up for my interview and had to take ANOTHER test. When I met the interviewer, she was extremely brisk, to the point of being rude. I felt like I had just shown up and interrupted her day. Our conversation lasted no more than 5 minutes before she was ushering me out. During the 5 minutes, I realized she hadn't even known I had applied for a specific job. When I asked about the office manager position, her response was, "Oh. Did you apply for something specific? Um, let me check into that. Looks like it's already been filled." What?! I spent all this time filling in paperwork and doing tests and she had NO CLUE I did any of that or that I had applied for a specific job! She dismissed me with, "Well, if you don't hear from me in a week then call and remind me that you're still looking." Um, isn't that YOUR job to be looking for a job for me? I had already lost faith in this company and just dismissed the entire episode as a waste of time. Two weeks later, I get the same automated call, requesting an interview. I called them back and it was the same song and dance..."We want to meet with you, get to know you" blah, blah, blah. I asked the interviewer point blank if she realizes I have already done this. She had NO clue. She quickly blamed someone else for not putting me into the system, with a promise to call later that day with job opportunities, and hung up. Of course, there was no callback. The company website and office looks wonderful...but maybe that's what they spend all of their time on, image. They've won a few awards but the last one was in 2009 and after trying to work through their unorganized system, I can see why there hasn't been any other awards since. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. Unless you have the time and the patience to deal with incompetence, I strongly recommend using another staffing agency. read more

First time experience with a staffing company and ALTRES was a great choice. The staff is very helpful and professional. Within the first week I had gotten calls from them for potential jobs. They really do their best to accommodate your preferences and work with you on finding you what you need. Very easy to talk to and work with. By the second week I had an interview with a job that I was very interested and the next thing you know I was employed. They made the whole process of searching for a job so convenient for me. If I oculd give more stars I would! I have worked for Altres for about 5 months now amd have had an EXCELLENT experience so far. Emails and phone calls are returned quickly, and right after a job I am always asked how it went, was I treated respectfully and was the job description accurate etc. Every staff member I've worked with has been super helpful and actually cares. My schedule is definately accomodated and job info has been correct so far. I definately would recommend Altres to anyone who needs some temp work or a full time position. read more

I wish I could give this useless "agency" no star at all. From the rude and arrogant front desk staff taking selfies while applicants wait around to their outdated pseudo psychological evaluation tests, the absurd never ends with this bunch. After interviewing with them, I received a call a month later wanting me to hound my references because they couldn't reach them. Aside from the delusional and insane request, I was floored to hear that my references were being checked a month after my initial interview with them. Ridiculous! Do yourselves a favor, job seekers, and go online, Google the organizations in your area whose activity interests you, cold-call them to get the name of their HR and send them your resume directly or hand-deliver it in person to someone at HR. You will save yourself gas money, parking fees and a tremendous amount of aggravation and wasted time you could put towards blasting your resume out. Oh, and make sure you let your newfound employer know how unprofessional these "staffing agencies" are when you find a stable job. Claudette Miller and Roxanne K. were a great help to me through my journey of job hunting after I finished college. I wanted to try office work after having spent most of my previous years working at school or retail they somehow got my foot in the door with no office experience. Over the last year and a half I tried 2 different positions through them that didn't work out until finally landing and accepting my third position that I feel suited me happily, they understood I was inexperienced, wasn't sure what I wanted and that I needed to test the waters, I always tried my best to be a good employee and they appreciated that. They were kind, understanding and treated me like a human, which is all you could ask for from a staffing agency which is a business in the end. They called me often and offered to submit my resume to various jobs and I felt bad for rejected often, but it was worth the wait I eventually found a job description that sounded like something i'd wanted to do at least a couple years. This review is only for the labor side, I am sure everyone that works here is a great person however what most of us don't know is that you are an asset to a staffing agency. When they send you somewhere if you make $14, they are collecting $20+ or so. My problem here is that I don't think their personnel manager was listening. I have no problem trying to find Admin jobs but was looking for something more. I am constantly told that I am overqualified so I was hoping going to a staffing agency that claims they are there to serve you would be better. I have worked contract and permanent jobs with multiple agencies in Honolulu and the Mainland. Altres recruiters and management are very lazy and inexperienced compared to other employment agencies. They have there own agenda and goals. You have to search there site for jobs and call them. Other agencies work for you and call you when a opportunity comes up. Very LAZY company! read more

I am starting a new career and looking for a job to gain experience that will lead to that new career. Because I have no recent experience, they will not give me a chance to learn and get the experience. I am new with Altres, about three weeks now. Since I started I've nothing but rave reviews about Altres. I have experience in the medical field and was taken under wing very quickly. I was provided work without having to wait. Even though I have experience they have classes to brush up on Alzheimers and more. One of my clients has been very hard to deal with. I alerted Altres to the behavior of this client and our case manager went out to see him. She is very hands on and I haven't had a problem since. Altres is adamant that their employees are treated well while doing home care. I feel respected and valued. My checks are in my hand or in the bank within a couple of days each week and I just received a birthday card signed by all the office staff!! I would recommend Altres medical in Honolulu to anyone! I worked for ALTRES for over 3 years, they were recommended by a friend. From the very first contact, I felt as though they were invested in me. During those 3 years, I worked consistently and in several different types of business. Lisa K. and Alice K. never failed to check in with me while I was working and make sure things were going okay. When an assignment was approaching the end, they always had somewhere else lined up for me to go. I was also afforded the opportunity to work "in house" and and saw how the "other side" of this company works. I've read some of reviews that were complaining about the lengthy hiring process, yes, it is somewhat lengthy, but not really any more so than anywhere else. It really all depends on the applicant, and how quickly they get the required documents turned in. The references can also take some time, but that also depends on how quickly they are completed. I'm not exactly sure how this becomes the fault of ALTRES. If I owned a company that had staff that was being supplied from a staffing agency, I would want to know that, not only were they qualified for the job, but would work well with my existing staff. All of this goes into the hiring process. I don't have anything but wonderful things to say about this ALTRES. Everyone I had contact with, from the girls up front to the President, were nothing but nice, helpful, and professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for assistance in finding employment. And just to clarify, I would still be working there had we not moved back to the mainland. I just don't see what these other people (bad reviewers) are seeing. I realize that not everyone gets placed or gets the salary they want, sometimes it just doesn't work out, and sometimes the fault doesn't necessarily lie with the staffing agency. read more

This is my first attempt working with a staffing agency. It's been at least 4 weeks since I've submitted all required documents to complete the enrollment process based upon a job lead that I found on Craigslist. Since the initial contact, I have not received a follow up phone call nor emails notifying me of my current status. All phone calls that I have made, end with, "We have nothing available." As an employment agency, you would think they would at least keep you informed whether or not you're an ideal candidate or convey areas that may need improvement. Three years ago when I just graduated, I needed a job and I went to staffing agency like ALTRES since it was one of the options, after wasting so much time and effort, I did not get any job through this place. I saw the same job posted on a company's official website so I skipped ALTRES and applied directly, at the end I actually got it. I suggest if you know the company who ALTRES is staffing for just go apply at the company directly, do not let ALTRES make the unnecessary money and trap yourself with their contract. Staffing agency pays you way less than the company actually pays you for the same position and ALTRES get pay several grand just for bringing you in. You will not have the company benefit and fair pay, instead you will have low pay from staffing agency and rip of benefit. One rule I am not sure if it is still there, they banned any cell phone usage when you are working on an assignment, if there is an emergency, they will contact you instead. What kind of slavery rule is that? They need to understand job is not, and will not be first than your person life. In conclusion, the people work here are not making bank anyway, do not expect them to find you a legit, fair pay job. I might sound harsh but I am just telling the bloody truth. read more

This is regarding Altres Medical. The Altres Medical staff have very poor communication skills. Regard nursing, they once told me that I didn't need a stethoscope after I told them I forgot mine. I got one before my assignment and when I got to my assignment they told me I needed one, of course! They don't give you the whole story on assignments. They typically give you the minimal support and if you ask for more they get short. If you ask questions about the assignment they give short, incomplete answers and hurry you off the phone. When there is a disagreement the staff get short and TELL you what happened instead of listening to your side to reach a resolution. If the resolution isn't what they like, they'll say "Okay, bye" and hangup. In once instance I wrote down notes from a conversation, later they asked me to fill out "paperwork" which turned out to be a test. When tried to communicate to them that I wasn't told about this they told me, "I always tell people about this, so you must have forgotten. Anyways, I told you about this so it's a moot point in discussing it now" I was looking directly at my notes of the previous conversation, no mention of the "paperwork" There are other examples but I'll be brief. Anyway, I don't think they are bad people but I believe they need more training on communication. The nurses that work for them work hard to give them a good name and the staff at Altres Medical should really recognize nurses efforts by better supporting them. If I knew that this is how they treated RN's I would have gone elsewhere. If you can do your job without asking questions you should be good to go but if you want clear communication and directions this is not the place for you. Maybe it's my lack of experience, I don't know... It may also just be my perception but I feel like I'm reasonable. Just wanted to share my experience to lessen others frustration. read more

If I was able to give them a negative 10 I would. I submitted all my paperwork, filled out application and took multiple lengthy outdated assessment test. I have over 10 years of customer service experience and over 6 years of sales experience. I've worked with reputable companies my entire career. I reached out to them to follow up and the lady on the phone said that I don't qualify for an office job. I only qualified for a warehouse, packaging job. According to her, assessment score was below avarage 33% and the "Global" standard is 75%. I've worked with excel and word all my life! How is that possible? Overall bad experience! This company is too expensive and hard to work with! It seemed like our payroll was too high and when we tried to figure out how much they were charging us (it's rolled into the payroll amount) they gave us the runaround. When we tried to cancel services they made it very difficult to do so. Now, I just called to get a report emailed to the owner and they tell me the owner has to call to request it. Like he has time for that! That's what I, the office manager, is for! This company is horrible and you should try Gusto instead. read more

This review is concerning the location in Kona. I was interviewed several times by this agency and had a great relationship with the employees. I felt that they understood what I was looking for. I received a phone call from the main manager at the Kona location about a administration assistant job at a dental office. The pay was lower than I required and it was not the position I was looking for by any specifications, however I told I would consider it with my husband and go on the interview to learn more about the employer. I thought about it and decided against the interview and called her back WITHIN 45 minutes of her initial call. I was very kind and explained to her that it wasn't a job I could see myself in long-term and would not want to waste the employer's resources training someone who would still be looking for other employment . The lady went off on me about wasting her time and being unprofessional. She said, "this is a small town and word gets around,". What in the world? I felt like she was threatening my good name because I decided not to go on an interview! My gut instinct is that this lady behaves like this often, and I would not want to work for her or with her. read more

I've been working with Lisa Kodama at Altres since 2011 when I moved here from New York and didn't really want to commit to a full-time job because of family on the mainland and another career in the arts. I took the test, but had been working for 7 years with Word 2003 and was tested on Word 2010 - so failed miserably... but quickly figured out Word (I type 90 wpm). I was sent to the most interesting and diverse places all over Oahu. I recommend working with Altres as a temp to see what might work best for the employee as I was offered a few permanent positions in the process. Have to give many kudos to Lisa as she was able to maneuver job placements with my crazy, inconsistent schedule. And she couldn't be kinder and more understanding. Excellent company! read more
