First off I want to start off by saying that I've been here a few times and the owners attitude is always great and welcoming . However I have to leave a review because I couldn't wait to get out. My sons barber was Andrew , when I showed him a picture of what I wanted for my son he said "idk how to do that" (I asked for a simple line design on the side of his head ) .... as he was finishing up my sons hair which came out mediocre he asked me if I liked it . And he completely ignored the initial requests that I had asked of him. 1 being please line him up in the front and in the back.... which he didn't do until I asked again. He didn't seem as if he wanted to be there and he didn't have the best attitude wouldn't recommend him. Also my son's hair came out choppy up top whenever he does not have gel it looks as if someone hit it with a lawn mower. read more

Been coming here for years , literally live right across but I don't get consistent barbers . Just came today asked for a mid taper fade for the first time when I usually get a mid fade and this was the result . Been trying to find a new barber for awhile. This is not the place. Second time there and it was worse than the first. Barber talked a lot I told him I had work. The fucked up my hair. Fool gave me a flat top. I told him I don't pick out my hair because I wear it naturally curly and he insisted it would lead to a better cut (Other barbers have done it before). It didn't. I have a fucken flat top and I asked for a low fade not to skin. Guess what I have a high bald fade with a fucking flat top. Didn't I mention he talked so much he made me late. I have been going to Alumni Barbershop since I moved to Downey almost two years ago. Johnny has been my barber since I've started getting my haircut at alumni. He is very professional and easily the quickest, most efficient barber I have ever had personally. His shop is a great vibe rather you want to shoot some pool, watch a movie or play some classic video games. Every barber in the shop is friendly and adds to the great vibes of the shop. Don't normally give reviews but I felt I needed to showcase this barbershop. After months of looking for a barbershop I can call home, I've found that spot! The cuts are fresh, the atmosphere is perfect and the customer service is flawless. Sitting on the barber chair I definitely saw every customer leaving like a brand new person, including myself! I'll be booking my weekly trim with Johnny from here on and out. What's really impressive and really touch my soul was seeing everyone from different backgrounds coming to this "watering hole" and having a great experience. I tried this place twice, first time as a walk in and second time with an appointment. The first time I was super scared, I don't trust many barbers with my sons hair. But the owner made it very welcoming and friendly. The barber who cut my sons hair did an amazing job and I was more than happy and trusted them to come back. This time with appointment to be seen faster. Wrong! Took two hours! Got there at 8am and left a little past 10am. The first barber was there on time. The second barber was about 30 mins late and someone else ended up taking my son. I wish I had said I'll wait. Completely messed up both their hair And they charged me $90!!! I paid $100 and left. I'm sure they saw it in my face how upset I was because I was not hiding it at all. I was more embarrassed to ask them to fix it. It's ashamed they let me walk out with my kids after taking my money and leaving their hair the way they did and it took them two hours! I will deff not give them another try. Their customer service is great and the owner is great but they should not let rookies do service for paying customers. Practice on a doll head!! They messed up me wanting to back. I give it 3 stars. The place itself deserves 5 stars. But I'm taking two away for each barber who messed up my kids hair and still felt the need to charge me $90 total for the images attached. read more

I've introduced my mother in law to Alumni Barbershop and now shes never going anywhere else. She has short hair and prefers to have a close cut and fade that only a great barber can do, so we brought her here. Every time we go in whoever helps her does an excellent job! But we've found the perfect barber in Mike Fader, he's patient and does such a great job! I'll be taking my son to him for a back to school haircut next month! Thanks Mike! Subpar customer service. They put up a banner stating "Walk-ins Welcome". Though they are anything but such. Should say Walk ins not welcome and don't waist your time without an appointment. You will be ignored with full prejudice. I just can't believe how far customer service has fallen away from a business's staple. How new generations do not see how customer service are such a big part of their future business, especially a barber business, as this a generation to generation customer based loyalty business. I went here to get a haircut, because I wanted to check out a new place. I was impressed by their setup, and how roomy the place was. Chandler was my barber, and he did a great cut with my hair. He was professional, and easy to speak with regarding what haircut style and cut I wanted to get. The shop is clean, and also air conditioned. I was able to get an appointment in, and did not have to wait. Overall, I will be going back to this establishment again for my future haircuts. Great barbershop! All the barbers here do a really good job. I usually don't like switching up barbers but I don't mind whenever I come here. I usually get my haircut by Mike. He does a good job and works quick. I recommend making an appointment also, sometimes walk ins can wait a while, or they might not have time to accept walk ins anymore. You can just call and ask to make an appointment. Not hair related, but Mike also has a really cute dog that just hangs around inside the shop. They have a pool table too, in case you're here and waiting for a while. Definitely recommend coming here for your next cut! read more

Went to go cut it Sunday my barber Frost wasn't their so I cut it with another guy and told him to leave it long on top and the side part long , he left it so short . really not satisfied with my cut ! I was referred to Mando by another barber who used to cut my boyz head IGGY but he moved and I don't trust anyone but IGGY was "Iike Mando is nicer than me with it" so I hit em up and we set an appointment. My best friend recommended this shop to me. Three of my nephews were in town for my mom's birthday party and needed haircuts. I called them and they told me they took walk ins but they did have appointments so the haircuts would be in between. Their shop is clean and decor is nice. They have a ping pong table and offered us water while we waited. There's TVs everywhere so you will not be bored while you wait. The only thing I'd recommend is having an appointment. Other than that, my nephews liked their haircuts and the price was reasonable. read more
