I use to come here to see Alvin for a few years... I suffer from an accident and a I also have scoliosis. Over the time he had help me sooo much thru it , but when I went for this last visit, but he has moved to hoodriver and a new chiropractor has come to take place to work in the same place as for him although he will come in occasional. But my life went back to constant pain and suffering from the previous adjustment and even worse !! I do not recommend to book anything with the new chiropractor. As for my experience, it was horribly terrifying and I been in pain and trauma from the experience. Even tho I went back right away from his first adjustment and my pain just keep increasing each days.... I had cried in pain from it and to the point my scoliosis took a toll on me and kinda disabled me from it. I went back to him and ask him that is been worsened and he keep adjusting and I feel even worse each time that I was in tears with pain . I wanted help someplace else but and I was scared to seek other helps... until I finally did and they been adjusting me to back to no pain and able to work . Back to the first adjustment.. When I visited Dr. Alvis and his team for a spinal decompression treatment trial I could barely walk. The smallest movements caused my lower back excruciating pain and I could not find relief from any other treatment. My doctors at kaiser would not refer me to a spinal specialist and I felt like my options were running thin. Within a few treatments my pain started to recede and I gained small movements back. It was a small milestone but a milestone nonetheless, by week 8 my pain was practically gone and I've gained full mobility of my back. My healing has not been linear and I still have many sessions to go but I am confident in saying this is healing a long term injury of mine that can stay healed long term with this treatment. Doctor Alvis fixed my back - it doesn't get much better than that. Before going to Andy I had fairly intense back pain, and within six sessions I have zero.Seriously. Zero. I wanted to take the time to warn other patients about dr Andrew Alvis DC. As a medical professional myself (I am a pediatric dentist) I have a heightened awareness of "being strung along for profit". Unfortunately in the medical field some practitioners have the ability to draw out more profit from their patients by drawing out long treatment plans that require more money and more appointments. When I first appeared to dr andrew Alvis with a "stiff neck" he immediately recommend xrays to determine course of action. Being young and healthy 40 year old doctor I was surprised I needed X-rays for a stiff neck (costing 240$). After looking at my xrays he told me I need 8 visits to help my "stiff neck" at 60$ per visit plus my 240$ X-ray. He said he could start today. My poor stiff neck hurt so much I couldn't sleep right so I agreed hoping to feel better at least a little better today. That was not the case that day or any other day. My neck was sore continuously for the next 5 visits. Each appointment hoping my stiff neck would feel better. I was in pain for over a month if u can image that. Finally I decided to drive down to UCLA where I went to school and seek out the head of chiropractic studies at the university. As an alumni dr micheal stahl took me in immediately and looked at my xrays. He said good xrays treated me in the spot with neck cracking and exercises to improve my posture. I immediately felt better even walking out of the office and over the next few week no pain at all. The contrast in treatment was remarkable, night and day one visit 50$ in and out vs. long drawn out 8 visit treatment plan where I remain in pain for over a month. I have been compelled to warn future patients, make your own judgement: is he asking for xrays when he doesn't need them, he stares at the xrays for a minute before you walk in to pretend to be studying them, is treatment really really quick like 5min??? Why did I pay 60$ for 5 min?, does the treatment feel like he's barely accomplishing anything, finally why does it take 8 visits for a stiff neck that could have been resolved in one visit. If this description sounds familiar then we have a dishonest chiropractor who has a really fancy office off you yours and my dime. I myself am a pediatric dentist who take pride in taking care of patients first!!! I go out of my way to help anyone in pain, not keep them in pain for profit. I had given up on Chiropractic doctors. Only after my wife who had chronic pain for years (She had tried many chiropractic doctors, regular doctors, PT and god knows what else without success) started sessions with him under advise of her yoga teacher, that I begun to reconsider. In the chiropractic world, I'm somewhat of a veteran patient. Dr. Alvis is the 6th chiropractor I've seen in the last 4 years due to a pretty severe spinal injury. Now I'm seeing him four times a week, and couldn't be happier with my progress. What makes him different is the level of care and concern I see him show to every patient. Because I'm in the office every day they're open, I get to see all sorts of interesting folks coming in, and their interactions with the doctor. I've seen parents come in with their babies screaming, leaving with sleeping infants, I've seen people bent over walking straighter, and smiles of relief on everyone's face. My first x-rays and adjustment took less than 45 minutes, and every visit ever since takes less than 15. Dr. Alvis also has taken out his models of the spine and shows me where my problems are and what kinds of manipulation he's going to do before he begins them. The level of information and awareness he wants patients to have of their condition is impressive. I am all about being informed. He's even spent some time talking to me about my dog, who has hip issues, and what kinds of treatment options I could explore chiropractically with my veterinarian. I can't say enough about my experience with Alvis Chiropractic. I went to Dr. Alvis after experiencing a couple weeks of nerve pain in my back, it was not improving with any at home treatment and I was in severe pain at least once a day. I was referred to Dr. Alvis by my friend who had great success at his office in treating her own back pain. I went to a week and a half of treatment and feel almost 100% better. Not only do I feel better, but I intend to make chiropractic visits a part of my regular routine now because of how much of a difference I felt so quickly. Hi, I am writing this review for Dr. Alvis because I really want to share my experience with others. I have NEVER been to a chiropractor in my many years on this earth (too many to mention), but after having low back problems for years due to a horse accident and I'm sure poor attention to my back, I was luckily referred to Dr. Alvis by a friend. I wasn't sure what to expect ....being somewhat of a skeptic, but I was pleasantly surprised. First, Dr. Alvis and his staff are extremely helpful, professional, genuine, and welcoming. Second, the treatments I received actually worked!!! It took a few visits to start to notice a difference, but all of a sudden I started thinking less and less about my pain and then a few weeks into my treatment, I realized how much better I was feeling. Much less pain, more movement and flexibility, and just an overall feeling of stability. I don't know much about other chiropractors, but I do know you will not be disappointed with Dr. Alvis. I have had peripheral neuropathy that traditional medical practitioners finally needed explain away as fibromyalgia, because nothing else was fitting the symptoms. I wasn't sleeping because of the sensations in my limbs and getting through the day with the numbness, heaviness, and pain etc., was incredibly difficult. I had a bike accident a year ago, with a great deal of impact on my neck. Even my medical doctor thought the neuropathy could be linked to the accident, but there was nothing to be done but refer me to a neurologist. I was so disheartened. Dr. Alvis encouraged me to get an adjustment daily for the time being and to give it a few weeks to see what progress could be made. This was a hard go, but I stuck with it. I was just about to see the neurologist, when a different area of my spine allowed an adjustment to take, and things changed for me. I am so happy and amazed - because this week (4 weeks in, with adjustments 3 times a week), I am better. And I am so incredibly grateful. I feel like I am getting my pre-accident self back. Not only do I feel better physically, but my thinking is clearer. I truly believe that the impact on my neck was severe, but the other immediate needs after my accident (broken jaw) were the priority and I ignored the need to treat the effects of the impact on the rest of my body. I can't recommend chiropractic or Dr. Alvis more - and I do so, in the hope that someone else who might be facing the prospect of a reduced quality of life, because of needing to turn to drugs or surgery for pain caused by subluxation, will trust that Chiropractic can restore their body to a healthful state. read more
