The cottages were a little dated and very basic, right on the beach with incredible lake views. Steps to the lake, access to your own small strip of beach including lounge chairs and fire pit. WiFi/cell service was spotty. There are kitchen supply essentials for your convenience, but stop at the Walmart in town for groceries or any of the many party stores on your way. The cottages are a short drive in either direction to Oscoda or East Tawas, where you'll find grocery, gas stations, chain eateries plus a handful of local places, and a few options for entertainment like bowling and movies. Super adorable Alpena is about an hour away and Mackinac Island is roughly 3-4 hours, if you fancy a day trip.

I made reservations some time ago and sent a deposit after I received the agreement form. They asked for a check which I sent. They did not want credit cards. I've had to Put a stop payment on the check after delving into some background information. Looks like I dodged a bullet Today I found on my voicemail where the resort cabins owner double booked. They asked if I could change my vacation time. No I can't I called them and they essentially said im on my own to find a new place. They said there's a place next to us( all booked up now), and about on the other side of us that they couldn't recall the name. She then stated perhaps she's too old now to be trying to make reservations Maybe she's too old to answer her phone now as well. It's clear they are avoiding my calls. I need to ensure I get my deposit back so it's appropriate for me to call. The place is the Nor East Resort If Oscoda wants to be better , the places like this need to do better. I live in another state far away so trying to find a vacation spot at this late afternoon date is impossible. Good public relations would have been to endure my deposit is returned and assisting in finding another place. If I dont get my deposit back I'll be stopping by when I do make it up that way. This have not been a dream but rather a nightmare.

We usually stay in one of the cabins, which is comfy and homelike. It's always sparkling clean. I love the little homey touches they provide. Seeing the clean white curtains blowing in the breeze relaxes me like nothing else. The deck is fabulous--lots of room to stretch out and enjoy the sun and the breeze from the lake. The tables and seating areas are always in good shape. The flower beds and pots are so well kept and pretty. Every year we find something they've upgraded. One year it was the deck--that was a nice surprise! Another year they built brand new porches on the cabins. We really appreciated the upgraded WIFI last year. This place has become a beloved tradition for us. I find myself dreaming about it in February and March. It is a peaceful retreat from the busyness of daily life.

Crystal Sands Beach resort was able to accommodate a girls weekend (17 girls) easily. The beach house apartments provided plenty of room, gorgeous views, full kitchen and an open floor plan. The Villa's are equipped with full kitchens, bedrooms, and open floor plans in general living areas. The Suite's were open floor plans with refrigerators and coffeemakers. The property and beach were well kept and grounds crews seemed to make regular rounds to ensure cleanliness. The resort is on the beach and has a gorgeous beach area. There were many families and children enjoying their swimming, kayaking, and bulldog sand castles. At night the resort set up chairs and multiple fire pits on the beach for guests and kept the wood coming and fires going! The resort also came equipped with regular housekeeping which included daily garbage changes, cleaning, and towel replacement. The resort is handicap accessible with an ADA Suite and handicap beach access. My travel companion is wheelchair bound and we had no problems getting around. The beach house steps were wide enough to get a wheelchair bound person up and down and all staff and owners were quick to offer assistance when we took the wheelchair and occupant of wheelchair up and down the steps. I've stayed in many (most) locations in that area on the beach and this is by far the best. We can't wait to go back for our annual girls weekend next year! I can't say enough about the location or the amazing staff/owners of the resort. They truly work hard (while making it appear effortless) to ensure everyone is having a great time. We made reservations, got up there at 8:00 pm. No one around. Knocked on the door, no answer…read more Anyway another guest told us they just leave the doors open for us to check in on the honor system. The owner is a bit eclectic but very nice. The motel room was a typical room, but is right on the water with a beach, firepit etc....Met all the guests (most have been back several times) and made a few new friends. Tawas is only a few minutes down the road with a lot of sightseeing to do. There was no wifi but who cares right? Your on vacation. Couldn't get my Metro phone to work but my T-Mobile was no problem. They only take cash or check. Bring your own coffee because the one in the room is very weak. All in all I would return....oh and it's pet friendly so we brought our Shitzu!

She sent me pictures of towels that she claims were excessively stained which i know is not true, i took pictures when we left of the whole cabin and of everything. We cleaned it better than what it was when we arrived. When we arrived we the place was filthy and had ants and spiders in the beds and all thru the cabin. The place is so run down and old i wish now we would have left immediatly! However i would have lost all of my money. Dont expect to get your whold refundable deposit returned.
