Nathan is by far the best general contractor I've worked with. This is my 4th major house remodel. I'm convinced Nathan's quality and meticulous attention to detail shows as the project gets bigger. Almost anybody can set a toilet, but I've seen Nathan do so many detailed finishes and find creative solutions to our demanding design that I'm not sure he has limitations. I like that, unlike most of the contractors we met with, I could shop around for my own finishes without his mark up. When needed, Nathan would use his contractor discount for us to purchase at cost. Nathan is also super easy to work with. Like any project, adding items after the scope of work is agreed on can significantly increase the price. After all, they are already in your house, they (the typical general contractor) know you aren't going to want to shop for a better price and it's going to make sure it's worth their inconvenience if they have to squeeze you into their already tight schedule. We are so lucky to have Nathan working with us. He did so many extra random jobs that required his skill but without the inflated cost. At this point, there's nothing I wouldn't trust Nathan to do, and for a reasonable price, as long as he told me he could do it. Nathan Alwin and his team were fantastic! First impression was that he hit the basics of reliability: he answered my initial call, scheduled a time, arrived on time, and sent a bid the same day. We have a 1925 house and asked Nathan to replace all of the carpet and linoleum on the main floor with 18 inch porcelain tile. This included a sunroom, living room, kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. His bid was $2000 less than the other bids and he accepts credit cards. These were both deal breakers that, otherwise, would have prevented us from doing the project ... AND it included new, painted baseboards which the other bids did now. Additionally, other bids asked that we move all our appliances out of the kitchen and the move the toilet. We only have one bathroom. Nathan kept both our kitchen and bathroom fully functional throughout the whole process. It was always fun to see where the fridge would be when we got home from work each day! Nathan ran into a few snags. He had to raise the front door (you can do that?!), level out the sun room with cement, and work with very "wavy" tile. These set backs meant that rather than the estimated 5 business days, the project stretched to 8. He didn't charge us anything additional! He was more concerned with giving us a perfect floor than getting the job done quickly. Overall, we were 100% satisfied with Nathan's work and will call him for all future home needs!! I'm giving a review based on customer service alone but I believe that's fair since I've seen similar businesses with poor reviews for such things (i.e. not returning calls, and in general being very hard to get ahold of). I can also vouch for the work they did on my neighbor's home as he is the one who recommended them to us in the first place. My wife and I have contacted Alwin installs a few times now and they have always been the best at getting back to us. Each time they've been quick to respond and have taken the time out of their day to help point us in the right direction. Thanks again for the advice! He tried and tried to find somebody to fix it ( so he say) but unfortunately could not locate anybody. I had not replaced all the windows in my home and so finally had Nathan complete them along with completing wall insulation when my finances allowed. Too bad I didn't call him first! He was on time, on budget, courteous and friendly. His work is beautiful. Next project: the front porch had a falling ornamental railing from previous owner and steps were rotting. Nathan did the carpentry needed to make sturdy railing and steps with much more sound results. I had him and Andre paint the house exterior as well. It has been 2 years and I am still quite pleased with the results. Oh and, the window done by a previous carpenter was leaking in the kitchen. He repaired that and it has been dry ever since. Next project: Nathan did the remodel on my kitchen this summer- tile floor to replace the vinyl, subway tile backsplash, repaint of the cabinets and rehardware to update the look and clean up closure issues-- saving money because I couldn't afford entirely new cabinets. He installed the hood and new oven, and stainless steel backsplash for the oven. The new hood and vent (through the roof) are a great improvement to keep the smells out of the house and clear the steam. He worked with the counter/quartz installer while I was away, and mounted the new sink and faucet. He (or his assistant Andre) re-plumbed the pipes from hot water heater to the sink and wall boarded where necessary because my former water pressure in the old pipes sucked. I am so happy with the water pressure, faucet and sink. He completed the job with a beautiful paint job of the remaining walls, ceiling and trim, and hung the new light fixture. I cannot tell you how thrilled I've been with the look and functional improvement. Friends have been over for dinner and love the new look. (75 facebook likes for the before and after photos-- soooo beautiful). Now here's the clincher: I was able to have all this in about a week and on budget. Total gratitude for improving the space where I live, making it safer, more fun, and more functional in a way I could afford. read more

March 20, 2012 I cannot say enough good things about Nathan Alwin and Alwin Installations, but the two most important are ON TIME and ON BUDGET. Having worked with many contractors doing renovations, these are the two things that almost never happen. Nathan has done two jobs for me--one a major renovation--and both times he came when he said he would and completed the job when he said he would. And did it on or under the budget he estimated! Not only that, but he did a fabulous job on both tasks. Nathan takes pride in his work and does the job right. He comes to work and he WORKS until the job is done. Further, Nathan was very open to suggestions, very easy to work with, and tolerated my interference with an easygoing style. "Hmmm, not sure I like that" I'd say about something he just spent half the day completing on my instruction. "No problem," he'd say, "I can do it how you want it." In addition, since he was gutting and totally renovating our main bathroom, he set up his busy schedule so that was all he worked on for the two weeks it took him to complete. We had a wood framed window in our shower that was showing severe water damage and was crumbling right in front of our eyes. After several suggestions from other contractors (from patching in tile, to redoing the tile in the whole shower and tub) Nathan suggested what turned out the be the best fix, and at a price that was much lower than the others. He replaced the wood with a vinyl window frame (waterproof!) and sealed it perfectly with silicon over the existing tile. I called him on a Thursday, he came out to inspect and give a quote on Friday, and came to do the job the following Monday. His workmanship was outstanding, and he cleaned up everything! I would have no hesitation hiring Nathan again, and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an honest, hardworking and fairly priced contractor! read more

This is the first time I've been motivated to take the time to review a business. We've had 2 separate remodels in our home over the last 6 months, and the difference in quality and behavior of both contractors is so stark, that I really want to give credit where it is due. Nathan and Andrey have spent the better part of the past 5 weeks in our home doing 2 complete bathroom remodels, which included moving some walls. They laid new subflooring, tiled both showers/tub surrounds, tiled the floors, and installed new vanities, light fixtures, trim and toilets. The work was completed in a timely manner and on budget, with no surprises or BS added onto his original bid. On "touch up" day, they addressed every issue we requested without whining or excuses, as we experienced from our previous contractor, who flat out refused to complete his own work. As we are learning, all remodels come with some bumps and road blocks on both sides of the fence. I am very satisfied with the quality of Alwin Installs work, but I am most satisfied with their integrity. Nathan was easy to work with, good at problem solving issues with you as a team, and accepted responsibility with class on the occasion that something wasn't going as planned. Lastly, I might add that we had new insulation and ducting installed in our attic a few months back. While accessing our attic for part of the remodel, he noticed that the insulation company left the ducts too short, and failed to connect the ducting to the newly installed roof vents as they were supposed to. Without batting an eye, he said he would take care of it for us, and did so, without asking for a penny for it. He said once, "I don't like to leave anything unfinished" and he meant it. We look forward to hiring him again when we are ready to update another area of our home, and boldy recommend his business without question. read more

Hired Nathan to replace some windows. He was friendly, prompt, efficient, and matched my old Milgard windows with the latest version, at a much lower price than I had been quoted elsewhere.
