The offer was more than fair. Once I confirmed to go ahead with the project, they arrived the same day to do the bulk of the work. The tree was successfully brought down despite there being power lines in the way, with no property damage or any accidents. Some logs were left behind, but they were removed several days later as is often the case with jobs like this. Other than a small divot in the lawn where the tree came down, you'd hardly know the tree had been recently removed. So overall, very happy with the work done. That being said, whenever you hire a contractor to do something like this, always get everything (including the price, timeline, specifics and their signature) written down to cover yourself. I'm not victim-blaming the negative reviews here, but cynicism and paperwork are your friends.

All nice and waving to my one year old daughter watching in amazement. They had a SUPERVISOR stop by. They cleaned up EVERYTHING they did. They protected my grass with plastic mats. THEY WORKED THEIR BUTTS OFF. They must have burned 5,000 calories each taking my dangerous tree down. I haven't been this impressed by a company from quote to set up to clean up to payment. I keep telling my wife two things. A) I can't believe how good they were and B) how did they really remove the stump that well? I'm basically in shock at how lucky I got finding this company. This December of 2020 my neighbor had over a dozen trees taken down on their property, which took…read moreabout 3 days. Some of these trees were huge, and after watching on and off I approached Curt, the owner, during a break on the second day to ask if he could take a look at a tree in my backyard that was cracking and needed to be removed. I got a fair price, with the intention of having it done on Saturday 12/5. As it snowed that day, we made plans to have it removed on 12/7. I spoke with Curt about what preparations I needed to do, he said that to drop the tree I needed to take apart part of a playscape, which I did. He said that the tree being removed may brush some branches on another tree in my yard. I was not home on Monday 12/7 when the crew came to remove my tree, although my spouse was. She paid Curt and was given a receipt after the job. When I came home after work, I went to look at the backyard, and that's when I found several issues. First, the yard was covered with wood chippings and sawdust from the tree being cut up. It looked like a pass had been done with a rake, however I filled half of a 96-gallon barrel with what I was able to clean up. Pieces of the lattice work at the bottom of a section of privacy fence were broken off, as was a good size branch of an Arborvitae tree across from it, where they took the downed tree out. The playscape had a piece of tree spear through the roof and break a plank in half, and another piece of branch is still sticking out of the roof where it broke through. Also, I can see where the tree hit one of the railings on the playscape, thankfully it was just damaged and not broken. The tree that was supposed to have been brushed by the other tree had three large branches cut off, and there is a large broken branch remnant sticking out of the trunk. Before I attempted any clean-up I called the phone number on the receipt, was presented with a message that any calls would be returned in 24 hours, and left a message stating that I was upset with the situation and asked them to call me back to discuss the work. I did not receive a call back the next day and called again on Thursday 12/10, as I wanted to ask what happened with the tree damaging the playscape (which had a buyer lined up for it) and the removal of branches from the other tree. As of today, 12/21, I have not heard back from Tree Care Services. Based on the quality of their work and their subsequent lack of response to my attempts to contact them I cannot recommend Tree Care Services as a tree service. All I wanted was to talk to them about what happened in my yard and why there was damage; they could have let my spouse know before they left. The tree is down but I'm left with damage in my yard and a lost sale for the playscape due to it being hit by the tree being removed. I was going to have them perform more work for me in the Spring, and know others that are looking for a tree service, but after this episode I'll look for another tree care company.

He works efficiently and clean, removing his shoes before coming into the house and vacuuming before he left. Did a great job on my 13 x 15 room, taking down the trim work carefully. Put up the Sheetrock and taped it in one day, second day another coat, and third day the final coat with sanding and painting. Final day put back the ceiling fan and A/C vent, reinstalled the trim, and touched up any marks caused by fingerprints or dings. Also patched some existing holes in the walls without hesitation. He's a mechanic of his trade who takes a lot of pride in his work. Happy to write this review for him. He's deserving.

Landscape & Design, Newington,…read moreCT): In August 2024, we entered into a contract with John (Mac) Bellingrath for a backyard renovation, paying approximately 95% of the total cost upfront--an error in judgment we fully acknowledge. The contract established clear completion deadlines for early September 2024, with allowances for minor delays. In the several months that followed through April 2025, Mr. Bellingrath repeatedly failed to meet numerous promised completion dates, including a final, "guaranteed" deadline of January 7, 2025. Despite our sustained good-faith efforts to allow him to meet his contractual obligations, he engaged in an ongoing pattern of project abandonment, unprofessional communication, substandard workmanship, and repeated false assurances. Ultimately, due to Mr. Bellingrath's continuous non-performance, escalating safety concerns, and deteriorating conduct, we were left with no choice but to formally terminate our relationship with him on April 1, 2025. The situation escalated to such an extent that police assistance was required to escort him on and off our property to retrieve his remaining equipment. Mr. Bellingrath's complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and competence turned our project into a nightmare. He repeatedly abandoned work, delivered subpar craftsmanship, and caused extensive damage--showing zero regard for our property or safety. A few examples include: * Repeated Abandoned Work & Safety Hazard: He dug an 80-foot trench for electrical conduits across our backyard and disappeared for weeks. In numerous occasions, Mr. Bellingrath left our backyard a dangerous construction site littered with heavy stones, machinery, and debris--forcing us to keep our children away. * Poor Work & Property Damage: Mr. Bellingrath sent an unqualified worker to handle critical tasks like building our patio, installing steps, and adding a rodent exclusion barrier. The result? A sloppy, unacceptable mess that required constant oversight. To make matters worse, this worker damaged our house siding. * Negligence & Destruction: Mr. Bellingrath's team repeatedly drove heavy machinery/vehicles over our front lawn--an area not even part of the job--destroying our front yard we worked hard to maintain. * Known to Authorities: Mr. Bellingrath's history of issues isn't unique to us. The West Hartford Police Department and town officials are well aware of the complaints against him. There is much more to say about this, but we'll stop here. Beyond our personal experience, we have been contacted by other clients reporting similar grievances, including significant upfront payments for unfinished work and long delays exceeding several months. It is evident that Mr. Bellingrath's conduct constitutes a serious breach of contract, a disregard for professional standards, and raises broader concerns for consumer protection. Mr. Bellingrath continued operation poses a significant risk to other unsuspecting clients and we urge anyone considering hiring him to exercise extreme caution and due diligence.
