So I had Harrington's in to do a "renovation" (their word), and I've tried to follow the program the best way I could. My understanding is that with an organic lawn care program and a reel mower I won't be able to have the manicured "green carpet" that some of my neighbors take great pride in. But once I was able to get my expectations in the right place, I've been very happy with my results. To sum it up, this is not the cheapest way to have your lawn taken care of. But if you take the long view and if reduction of lawn chemicals is important to you, it's money well-spent.

I just got back from Small Claims Court to answer Harrington's Motion to Modify Payment. The Court…read morehad awarded me a judgment for the return of the money I paid Harrington for work he didn't do. He didn't bother to show up today and his judgement was denied. Meanwhile, I wasted an hour and he didn't have to pay for the motion. Nasty guy... just did that to waste my time. His $350,000 building in Bloomfield is in the name of another corporation, Harrington Properties, LLC, so I can't attach the building, but I'll find some other assets to grab. I'll keep you posted.

Sav-Your-Money!!…read more Sav-A-Tree is disingenuous and disorganized and heartless. My family engaged the Bloomfield, Connecticut office for their advice on saving our Mother's beloved Rose of Sharon tree. When we initially met with their arborist, we were clear that the tree had sentimental value and that we'd be willing to invest in it's health, but we asked for their realistic prognosis as it didn't make sense to spend big bucks on a project that might be destined to fail. The arborist told us it looked like an easy fix (just some pruning, a little fertilization and a brace for a cracked branch). Sav-A-Tree proceeded to charge us upwards over $900 for the job which was done over two visits. Several months later, we are almost $1,000 out-of-pocket, staring at a dead tree. Granted... nobody messes with Mother Nature... but my Mom is heart broken about the dead tree in her yard, and the money spent at the encouragement of this company. When a Sav-A-Tree rep came to survey the situation, he was unfamiliar with the work that had been done and, initially, could not find the company's record for having braced the tree, which clearly was their plan from the beginning. He went so far to accuse us of having someone else do that part of the job. Eventually he "located" and their tree bracing documentation and, conveniently construed his records to absolve the company from any responsibility whatsoever. The kicker? When my 93-year-old mom asked them to please at least just cut down the tree and take it away. Their answer was "Sorry, not our problem." So much for customer service and good faith. Hav-A-Heart, guys!
