I booked a nice little boat for around 150 euros, not including fuel. It was great for exploring the area and we took it past Positano and had lunch at the most special place, Conca Del Sogno. As the winds picked up in the afternoons, the boat was not the most comfortable, but that was due to choppy waters and the boats small size. As long as the waters are smooth, this is a great price and a fantastic way to see the Amalfi Coast. You do not need a boating license, just a bit of experience and good common sense!

Rental from 1-6 was 100 euros and the was we used for 5 hours was 27 euros. And it was the BEST DAY EVER! We stopped and swam off the coast of Li Gilli island, stopped and had our lunch on the boat in front of the beautiful town of Positano, drove and swam, enjoyed the sun and had a blast. It is difficult enough to plan an engagement, let alone trying to plan it from a different country where you don't speak the language. However, with the help of Valaria, everything I was nervous about went smoothly. In September, I decided to propose to my then girlfriend on a boat, while at sea, with Positano in the background, on our first visit to Italy! I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do but thanks to Valeria and Francesco, I was able complete my vision. My now fiancé thought that it was just going to be a private sightseeing cruise as Francesco hid the violinist and the photographer below deck until it was time to propose. I was totally surprised! He also popped the champagne for us. Francesco took us around and gave us a tour before I proposed. He dropped us off at different ports in the Amalfi coast and always waited for us patiently while we enjoyed ourselves on land. Even while eating, shopping and drinking. He was never too far away and reachable via cell phone at all times. He also had the best attitude! He was such a pleasant guy which was an added bonus to our already perfect day. We cruised on a small boat with just the two of us and our wonderful captain, Luigi. I'd highly recommend choosing a private tour if at all possible because you can go to areas the bigger boats can't, you're not confined to a set agenda and you can jump out of the boat when you want. During our tour, we left early in the morning from Positano and first cruised around the private island of Li Galli before heading east to Praiano and Amalfi. Along the way, we saw the Furore Fjord, Devil's Mouth and Arc of Lovers, and we jumped off the boat at a secluded grotto for a quick swim in the Mediterranean. From there, we cruised to the Isle of Capri, through the famous Arch of Love and visited several of the island's renowned grottos - again jumping out for a swim. On the way back to Positano, we stopped at the town of Nerano for a late lunch. It was truly a magical day along one of the most beautiful shorelines in the world, and a huge reason was our extraordinary tour guide, Captain Luigi!

Our amalfi coast tour guide told us that the place is divided into roughly 5 sections with a glamorous wealthy people area behind the big main town. The island is also closed for a few months after Christmas because not very many visitors go during that time so everyone gets a break. He explained that amalfi pretty much survives only because of tourists. The area is known for their lemon products..especially the limoncello. The main area has quite a few shops and eateries as well as a few name brands. I got a lemon gelato at one of the gelaterias and I'm pretty sure they overcharged me at 5 euros. None of the gelaterias had pricing available though. There's a public restroom right outside the main area but other than that bathrooms are a bit scarce unless you dine or have coffee somewhere.

He picked us up at the dock in Positano shortly before sunset. We had a short sunset cruise before dinner while he told us about some of the local area and we chatted about our lives. We were able to sit on the couch on the front deck of the boat (felt like celebrities!). We pulled up to the dock at Lo Scoglio as the sun went down and enjoyed a leisurely dinner there. Problem: How to do more than stop in a city and check a box? This is where Amalfi Coast Destination came in. He's from the Amalfi Coast and knows just about everyone. We even ran into his father in Ravello. He gives you access to a lot of places that the tour buses won't stop at. And completely customized to your needs--we wanted to throw Pompeii into the mix and were able to do so without being rushed. The highlights: *Touristy stuff: A boat ride through a grotto, and a little miniature of a town *Shopping in Amalfi *Breathtaking views and photo stops the whole way--including a posh hotel not open to random tourists *Wandering the square of Ravello *The most amazing meal ever: balcony view down the gorge to the Med at Ristorante San Giovanni, a rustic hand crafted meal. WOW! WOW! WOW! We're wrapping up four weeks in Europe and…read morethis was one of the highlights! We did the all day premium Capri boat tour and it was fantastic! Here are a few things you might find helpful: We were in the 8:30 departure. You're first stop is Capri where you'll be dropped off. Our return time to the marina was 1:30. So there's time to go to the top if you're smart and go right away. We went to Capri town and while the gardens were worthwhile, the high end shops were just that. And got crowded as the day progressed. Our friends went to Anacapri and took the chair lift to the top and LOVED it. In retrospect that would have been a better choice for us. Make sure you leave time to get back down because there will be lines, maybe long ones. Our group chose not to do the Blue Grotto. They do that after we return so this is something to discuss beforehand, as the time you WILL wait in line for that (1.5 hours had we done it) will cut into the magic that was ahead. Then we went around the island into the little grottos and they even took fun pictures. Then we swam! It was GORGEOUS!!! It's chilly but DO IT. The water is turquoise and truly magical. Antonio and the Captain were fabulous. They made it SO fun, adding a few surprises that I won't reveal . The time in the boat was the BEST! DO IT!!!!!!
