This bakery has a wide selection of cookies, breads, pastries and more. They had a strawberry rhubarb bread-like-cake on sample when I went and I really regret not buying that because it was very tasty. I did get 3 items from the bakery cases. First was a chocolate eclair. It was like a long creme puff with chocolate ganache on top and yellow filling in the middle. Reminded me of a Boston cream pie only in cream puff form. I thought it was ok. I would have really liked the filling to have more vanilla flavor. The puff part was a good texture. The ganache was mildly chocolatey. The second item was a blueberry cream-cheese pastry. I wasn't wowed by it. The cream cheese maybe needed more vanilla. The third item was a creme horn. I liked it, but again I wished the filling had a bit more vanilla. Also at the very end, it was hollow, so save some of the creme at the big end for the little end so you get a more balanced bite. All of the items are presented with great care and beautifully displayed. I just wanted a bit more flavor. I would go back and I would try different items. read more

The coffee and sweets were delicious though it did seem a little expensive. The cafe is family run. It seemed like they were training a new person when we were there so it was a little slow service given it was us and one other pair of customers. The baristas were friendly though. The store was clean and offered two levels of indoor seating and the front porch outdoors. There's sweets and gifts you can purchase to go as well. read more

We had an incredible experience with the staff and owners of this bakery this past weekend. We were looking frantically looking for kolaches for a celebration of life Friday. The owners of the bakery were able to accommodate our order of 100 mixed placed Friday for pickup Sunday morning. I can't tell you how much it meant to us that they were will and able to make these on such short notice. These were here very favorite dessert and it brought us a little comfort during a difficult time. The yummy coffee helped too. Got drip coffee complimentary as well as a gluten free monster cookie since we have a gluten allergy. Wish I could have enjoyed more options but grateful for the cookie. My son really enjoyed it he drank with his milk. As for the coffee it was okay. Coffee didn't have much taste and the cup over powered the taste. I'm for biodegradable cups but I didn't enjoy it. Definitely recommend to people who can enjoy a nice strudel they looked delicious! My daughter in law, granddaughter and I spent a day in the Amana Colonies last week. Lunch time found us in front of the Amana Colonies Bakery; so, we decided to try their sandwiches - DON'T waste your money! $13 for a lunchmeat sandwich on 2 slices of regular bread. And very skimpy with the meat - 1 slice. Could choose 2 additions - lettuce, tomato, onion - again 1 slice. No chips, nothing else. $13 for less than a vending machine sandwich. read more

What an adorable little shop! As you walk up, the amazing aroma of fresh baked goodness! Such helpful and refreshingly informative hosts. This is a quaint little bakery cafe nestled in a piece of period architecture. The ambiance is warm and inviting and the service is done with a smile from cheery locals. Unfortunately, the bakery part needs some improvements. The pastries taste a bit underwhelming and undercooked. Most of the filling is also a little commercial tasting with the fruit in pies overly soft. Fortunately, the pie crust is flaky and crunchy. The Dutch Letters are also a little disappointing as they were a little bland and possibly a day old when I visited on a Sunday. The bakery also has a counter that will serve up sandwiches. I did not sample this and therefore couldn't make an assessment. The coffee is a brewed drip from average tasting beans and if you should require an espresso type drink, they will pump it out of a machine that premade it. This place is certainly a tourist trap, but the ambiance is very rustic and cute. read more

Advertised price was $5.05 for a flavored latte, but the register price was considerably higher. They have two large chalkboards with prices listed. Both chalkboards indicated a price of $5.05. When I explained that, they were still unwilling correct the price to the amount advertised on the boards. She said their prices are subject to change at any time and they do not have to honor the advertised price. We left without buying anything. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was by my experience at this little bakery/cafe in Amana. In my experience, little cafes like this can be little gems in hiding. Turns out not this one. Amana, skimpy is thy middle name. We'd been on a walk/hike and were hungry so I stopped in for a sandwich to take on the road. I ordered a turkey sandwich. Here's what I got: 2 slices of white bread 1 thin slice of turkey. That's 1 deli-sliced piece of turkey. Yup. That's it. 1 thin slice of tomato Iceburg lettuce 1 Thin slice of onion A tiny drizzle of (blech) Miracle Whip For $7. The skimpiest sorriest saddest sandwich I've ever seen. In hindsight, why did I even take it? I'm still fuming over how much of a scam this was. In fairness, the cases of pastries looked amazing but we wanted lunch. Sandwiches appear to be an after-thought for this business so maybe don't do it unless you're striving to amaze and please your customers. Go for the sweets. Skip the savory here. We're in the area for business related things and I decided to go out and explore a bit. Personally, being from NY, I find this bakery cute and quaint! I think it stays within the colony theme here in this town. My coffee was fresh and hot, however I do wish there was fresh cream to go along with it. That may just be a matter of preference though. I also got the German brownie which was surprisingly moist, so that was nice. For my preference it was a little too sweet though. I know that traditionally, German baked goods are not overly sweetened in a lot of cases. There are a lot adorably packaged jams and baked breads for purchase here along with an impressive dessert display. I would say, definitely worth a try. Also, town is really cute read more

I would give zero if I could. I am 69 years old and this was the most bizarre retail experience I have had. I bought an apple pie here. I walked out on the porch with my wife and ate a piece. It was melted. She said ask them if we can put it in the refrigerator until we come pick it up. The owner said she couldn't put it in the refrigerator, but we could leave it on a table upstairs, since it was at least air conditioned. She said that it's possible someone could walk off with it. I went upstairs and there was no one there. So I thought the risk was low since no one was going up there. I said we were going to walk around and would come back before closing. I came back before closing. I asked the young women if I could go up and get the pie, since there was a chain across the stairs. She went in the back of the kitchen. She came back and said they threw it out. I asked why they did that. It became a ridiculous conversation. I asked to speak to the manager. She said both of the women were managers. I asked to speak with the owner. They said she was too busy to talk to me. They said she was tired. I said I could see her standing there drinking something. The women responded everyone needs to drink. She said they did not guarantee it would be there. I said they are the ones that threw it out. The owner came out and the young women continued to interrupt me. I continued to say I wanted to talk to the owner not her. I have never seen such rude behavior in a retail environment. They never said they were sorry or would comp me something. Obviously this is a business that relies on one-time tourist business, not repeat business. I would give this place 0 stars if that was possible. I purchased a small loaf of peach streusel bread in the am while traveling thru on my way home from vacation. When I got home and expected a tasty snack before heading for bed i opened the bread and found it to have mold on it larger than a silver dollar. I called the manager and asked for her to send me a refund and offered to send her pix of the bread and the label from the carton. She said she was unable to send a check because the cost was prohibitive because of bank charges. How much will negative reviews cost her business? She said that I could always stop in and pick up another product but I live 4 hours from the colonies and it's hardly a hop, skip and jump to go there and just pick up another product. I will be calling the health dept and reporting this and sending them pix of the bread and the label. Please go to her FB page and read the other reports of people who found mold on the products that they bought from this dump. The place is dark so it's not easy to see the mold. Maybe that the whole point of using 40W light bulbs in this business. Bottom line - take your business elsewhere. read more

Ordered a small birthday cake to be picked up here, for a small family birthday. Ordered long distance, since we're coming from out of town. Ordered two weeks in advance. Two days ago, called to confirm, and the baker said it would be ready to pick up at noon. Showed up at 1, no cake. The young girl at the counter was very confused and apologetic. She called the baker who said she'd been too busy to do the order. Obviously too busy to even make a phone call to give us a heads-up. They did give us 4 huge slices of pre-cut cake, free of charge (normally $5.25 per piece). But still. Not what we had planned for. Although I am a fan of Amana breads, I come here solely for the Apple Dumplings. They are a whole peeled apple wrapped in a tender flaky crust spiced perfectly and best served warm. If you come to Amana, don't pass up the chance to pick up a dumpling, they are scrumptious. But be sure to pick one up for everyone in your party because you won't want to share! read more

Had this been last year, I'd have given this review TEN big stars. I returned to the area in June 2016 and as the Amanas are not far from my home, I went on a regular basis. In particular, I enjoyed their delicious hot coffee and oatmeal raisin cookies which I always shared with the Sparrows......but it wasn't just the Bakery.....I came to know the people who worked there; smiles and politeness goes a long way in my book. There were two in particular: Jennifer and Deanna. They made each visit and shopping experience a pleasure. When the weather began to chill, I'd still go but spent my time in the Loft as I enjoy writing and this building had just the right atmosphere. The last time I went to the Bakery was in late December. When I returned this past month, I was surprised to see new faces in the Bakery. When I purchased my coffee, it was only warm but was told that it was all they had and the cookies weren't very fresh. I did not find the employees to be all that polite....as though in a rush to get me out of the building. When I went in for the FREE coffee refill, hoping it would be hot this time, I learned that I had to pay $1 more for the refill and the coffee was still barely warm. I walked out the door, through the coffee in the trash can, said "good-bye" to the Sparrows and will NEVER return to the Bakery again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
