You may want to take my review with that grain of salt. I'm overall on hiatus from yelp for this reason. However, I felt strongly enough about my experience with Cornerstone Christian Counseling over the past 12 days that I wanted to come out of temporary hiatus in order to write this review. My experience with this business started off pretty well and pretty normally. The office staff was kind, pleasant, and informative (I spoke with Aimee and Kaitlyn). I sent the initial email about the issue that I am seeking counseling for. Their website says that they will get back to you within 24 hours, and they did not. Maybe they're extra busy, I thought - not a huge deal, slightly annoying, but I will just call the office. I did so, and Aimee informed me that the therapist that could work with me, Patrick Herzer, was on vacation. Aimee said that Patrick would touch base with me when he returned from vacation in order to schedule a phone consultation with me. Sounds good, I waited to hear back from him. I heard back from Patrick via an unscheduled, unannounced phone call to my phone on Monday, 2/7 (2 days ago now). In his phone message, he instructed me to call the main office in order to schedule a phone consultation with him. No biggie, I did so. Everything was still going along fine and normally. Then things got a little weird. I spoke with the lovely Aimee on the phone yesterday afternoon at 1:20pm PST, 2:20pm MST (MST is the time zone for this business). Aimee said that she would reach out to Patrick via email and ask him about times that may work for him to schedule a phone consultation with me. I mentioned to Aimee that Patrick hadn't said anything about his schedule or possible available times that may work for him in his voice message to me, and Aimee helpfully told me Patrick's basic schedule. She said that he may be in with a client, so that she wouldn't email me back right away. I said that is completely understandable, and that as long as I heard back within 24 hours, that would be just fine. Over 24 hours later, I have no email or phone message from this business. (This is all during the business work week, M-F.) I called for the 3rd time and expressed my frustration and annoyance to the understanding and compassionate Kaitlyn on the office phone, about having had to email 3 times by now and call 3 times by now simply to try to get a phone consultation on the schedule! Kaitlyn literally told me that she would reach out to Patrick via email and ask him when he was available for a phone consultation! I told her that Aimee had already done that yesterday, and I told her that I've never had this much trouble scheduling a phone consultation with anyone in my entire life! (Truth!) Kaitlyn told me "He is a busy dude" (regarding Patrick). My response was, "Everyone is busy, I think I will just forget it, thanks anyway. It's hard enough to reach out for counseling in the first place, but having to email 3 times and call 3 times just to try to schedule a phone consultation is way too much. I consider this to be unprofessional." It's not easy to reach out for counseling in the first place and admit that you could use some guidance and assistance. Calling 3 separate times and emailing 3 other separate times with the sole intention of simply scheduling a 15-minute phone consultation is absolutely absurd. I could get ahold of the President more easily than that! I'm actually worried for potential clients that may be dealing with depression or other mental health issues that try to reach out to this office for counseling. They may not have the strength or persistence to advocate for their own mental health in the way that I did. I do not have any mental health issues (my reasons for seeking counseling are different than that), and this experience was so discouraging and frustrating for me (a generally reasonable individual, although possibly slightly less so recently due to my recent medical issues), it's hard to imagine how difficult this experience may be for someone who actually does struggle with mental health issues. I've never had to chase down a counselor before in my entire life! If you don't want my money, either tell me that, or don't respond... don't lead me along a wild goose chase just to fruitlessly try to schedule a simple phone consultation! I feel like giving one star, but I do not think that would actually be fair due to the kindness and professionalism of the office staff. I had high hopes for personal, relational, and spiritual growth through working with one of the counselors on this website. Unfortunately I just can't keep calling and emailing them just to try to get on their schedule. I'm a busy dudette. Ain't nobody got time for that.

This is an updated review to the one I left a few months ago.. after all of that, My parents…read morereceived calls from Shari yesterday basically threatening us if we did not take reviews down... and that my review was untrue. Really? That's interesting. I have never met someone this arrogant- please, do not trust this woman with your money, children, trauma, or brain. She may have been great at what she does at one point, but if she is capable of this level of arrogance and neglect it is UNREAL to me. She has showed zero compassion or care and her last two phone calls prove my last review better than I ever could have. Had she called and asked.. to maybe just talk? See how I was doing and see how she could improve after what happened with me? I probably would have taken the reviews down. Now? Oh, hunny... I will be going to to BBB and anywhere else I can. I will also be reporting this to yelp. Asking people to remove reviews and essentially threatening them with a bill if they don't....um nope! You can not do that, not at all. Thank you for showing your true colors Shari, I hope at least one other person is saved from the experience I had. Maybe next time, let's remember that reviews exist for this exact purpose and when someone is upset with you....I suggest finding out why and handling the situation like an adult. Thanks OH.. I FORGOT TO MENTION.. she left the voicemails for my mother yesterday, ( I am a 33 year old grown adult), and asked my parents to help her get these reviews taken down. She also said on the voicemail that I had a psychiatrist and a therapist at that time, so she basically was not responsible for me in anyway. I have never once seen a psychiatrist in my life....let alone was under the care of one when I was in contact with Shari... one little example that shows how much Shari just does not listen. There were about 5 similar blatant inaccuracies in her phone call, that I truly thinks she believes. It is nothing other than arrogance, she has lost touch with herself. We see that with success all the time, it is clear as day with Shari. The fact that she called a grown adults mother, bashing her mental health, only trying to get a very valid review taken down.... is disgusting. How can someone who works with traumatized people think that is in any way ok to do or be that out of touch? Scary. My parents stand behind me 100% and saw the damage done by my experience here. This is serious and I will not be silenced. If you don't want bad reviews, do your job. If you make a mistake, make it right. SIMPLE.

I am someone that has done the majority of healing all on my own. I was supposed to have an interview with them today at 10 a.m. they have stated that one of their biggest things is that people have an emergency contact. This is not always possible for those of us who've done the majority of work on our own when we come from a rough background. Due to this obligation, I haven't received any contact back from them after they told me they would contact me in approximately 10 minutes after finding out whether or not it was a necessity to have an emergency contact. This at this point I have rescinded my wanting to be a part of their support group and do not recommend anybody else that needs a support group go through them because they are not fully up-front about their services. They want you to have an emergency contact no matter the detriment of your health. If your emergency contact would be a person that hurt you cool at least it is an emergency contact or you're not welcome. The value of this organization is that it is a detriment to the health of anyone that does not have an emergency contact that would not be a detriment to your health.

The GREATEST thing to me about Wings - is the book they use as part of the group process. It explained so many things about why I have had difficulty with relationships and trust, etc. It made me realize that my responses are "normal" for someone who goes through this kind of experience --- that it is simply what happens --- it's being human. THEN it gives you strategies for changing the things that protected you as a child but are interfering with your life as an adult. This group was a very healing experience for me.
